Changing a website through iweb

i have started using iweb today and published a website. then i made some changes and published those, but the original website keeps coming up and none of the changes I've made appear to be published. i can see all the changes, and the website as I would like it to appear, in iweb, but not ion the web. what am i doing wrong?

If you really what to make sure that it is publishing correctly, then I would suggest that you select the publish to a local folder option from within iWeb and this will publish your site to your desktop - you will get a site folder with a separate index.html file and an assets file.
If you download Cyberduck for free - this is a dedicated ftp programme, you should be able to connect to your server using this and you will then be able to see exactly what is in your public_html folder on your server.
Once you connect to your server using Cyberduck, you will be able to see what is being uploaded and to where. If you use the iWeb built in ftp you are working blind.
Use Cyberduck to see exactly what is on your sever and take it from there.

  • How do I add a favicon to my website through iWeb?

    Hello,
I built my website through iWeb.  I am wondering if it is possible to add my favicon to my website through iWeb.
    Thanks,
    Lora

You can use any image as a favicon.
Save an image as .pgn, .jpg or .gif and rename it favicon.ico
Put it in the root of the server.
Any modern browser will find it. No need to add code to a page.
Here are some I use :
    http://www.wyodor.net/favicon.ico
    http://forum.wyodor.net/favicon.ico

  • Can't visit my website through iWeb

when I try to visit my website through iWeb, it direct me to: http://web.me.com/yalan.chuang/Ya-LanChinese_School/Home.html/Ya-Lan_ChineseSchool/index.html, and it shows: looking for something on MobileMe? But the correct one should be: http://web.me.com/yalan.chuang/Ya-LanChineseSchool/Home.html. How can I fix it?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you using the Visit Site link that drops down in iWeb after the publishing is completed? If so that's known to now work well. Try the File ➙ Visit Published Site menu option or just enter your URL in the browser as QuicktimeKirk pointed out.
I tend not to use iWeb but use a bookmark in my browsers menu bar. Just more reliable.

  • Is it possible to add/create a login prompt for my website through iWeb?

So I was tasked to create a "info" site for my family.  In an effort to keep it private from everyone except my family members I would like to create a login so that only family members can log in and view site.  Is it possible to do this through iWeb?  If so could someone help explain to me how this can be done?
    Thanks

Its not so difficult. I host with Host Excellence and it only takes a few minutes to set up password protection using the WebShell wizard.
Once you have done this, you can easily add and/or delete authorized users, change the password etc.
If you use .htaccess, there are online generators to help you set it up. The main thing to remember about these files is that they are normally hidden so you need to turn on "show hidden files" in your hosting account file manager.

  • Publishing multiple websites through iWeb

    Hello,
I could use a little help. I have my main website published through iWeb and the mobleme system.
I would like to make another website (which already has a host) on iWeb but can't figured out how to do it.
Any help would be great. Thanks

Okay, so lets just get this clear first of all - which version of iWeb are you using? iWeb 08 or 09? There are differences - if using 09 then click on the name of the site that you want to publish and there should then be a drop down menu at the top of the page that has FTP Mobile Me, FTP Server and then Publish Local Folder. To publish to a folder just click on the Publish Local Folder option and your site will be published to a folder.
iWeb 09 will let you publish individual sites.
If using 08, then this is an 09 forum and there is an 08 forum that you can post to.
However, in iWeb 08 you can choose to Publish to MobileMe and/or then publish to a folder- in 08 there is no ftp to server option and unfortunately, as you have discovered it will publish all sites rather than just individually. If you want to publish individually, then you need to separate out your domain files or use the programme iWebSites to help keep your sites separate.

  • I am trying to include some widgets into my website through iweb. How to keep only the widget button on the homepage instead of the whole open widget?

I found the HTML code for including the Facebook widget buttons on my webiste...now I also wanted to include some other widget so I looked at www.widgetbox.com....I can download the html code and once I put that on my webpage then I have the widget open. How can I only have the widget button instead? For example I wanted to have the weather widget, but only the button weather widget, as if it was on the iphone, so that user can click on it just if they want, but I couldn't manage to do it. • Multiple Websites using iWeb

I currently created one website through iweb. www.michelemcloughlin.com
I now want to create multiple websites for clients, friends etc. Is it possible to do this? I have iLife 08, what would be the best way to do this?
    help!!!

    MicheleMc08 wrote:
Do you think its easier to buy ilife 09 and not need to go through this process of individual folders?
Michele ~ I think it's better to keep sites for different clients and friends each in their own iWeb Domain file — but that's just a personal opinion and others may differ.
Also, I have a mac account, if I were to design another website for a client do they need to buy hosting as well in addition to their domain name?
As above, I think it's better for clients and friends each to have their own hosting and domain name — although it's not necessary. Perhaps it wouldn't be inconvenient for you to have a close friend's site hosted on your MobileMe account. Also, there are some restrictions regarding setting up multiple domain names to a single MobileMe account — read more here:

With iLife 09 is the back up necessary.
Backups are always necessary — your Mac's internal HD could crash at any moment. Do you have a plan for when that happens? ...There are only two types of HD: Those that have crashed and those that haven't — yet:

This back up.. can I copy this domain file and put it on an external hard drive?
    Yes.

  • Failure to launch - can't publish through iweb

HELP!!!!!!! Neiter the genius bar nor the .mac support can help with the following: I'm a .mac account holder and can't seem to publish my website through iweb. Every time I hit publish, the system asks me to log in with my mac user name and password which I do and my existence as a .mac account holder and the matching password is validated promptly. Then, nothing happens, my site doesn't publish. :-((( Every time I hit publish I have to go through the same drill of signing in without result - I'm ready to scream!!!!!

I can't recall a specific fix for your problem, although I have heard of other people experiencing this. Want to try something anyway?
Try reinstalling the iWeb 1.1.1 update right over what you have installed there. Download the full update from Apple from this location...

See if it makes any difference at all...

  • When I am NOT private browsing Firefox will not allow me to delete or change the website address in the location bar. My only remedy is to open a new window and search in google then click the link to that site through google. How can I resolve this?

    Question
When I am NOT private browsing Firefox will not allow me to delete or change the website address in the location bar. My only remedy is to open a new window and search in google then click the link to that site through google. When I swap to private browsing firefox allows me to anter the website address directly into the location bar - but this is a slow [prcess to swap back and forth - also by dint of using private browsing I loose my website information.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Can I make another website using iWeb,then publish it to a different server through the SMTP panel on iWeb

Can I make another website using iWeb, and then publish it to a different server through the SMTP panel on iWeb, even though I have a website published on mobile me, can I just use the SMTP engine to publish a different site but to a different server, that's the question I'm asking. I'm hoping for a quick reply. Thank you for your time in reading this.

Yes.  You can do it one of two ways:
1 - select FTP Server in the Publish To menu (click on the site folder to get to the options) and enter the FTP address, username and password and publish as you would if using MMe.
2 - select Publish to Folder and publish. Use a 3rd party FTP client like  Cyberduck to upload the site files to there server using the FTP address, etc.

  • I updated to os x 10.8.5 today and now I cannot publish changes to my web page through iweb.  iweb crashes every time I try to publish

I updated to os x 10.8.5 today and now I cannot publish changes to my web page through iweb.  iweb crashes every time I try to publish

    First do the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Next, in Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • META TAGS? How do I change meta tags while designing my website in iweb?

META TAGS? How do I change meta tags while designing my website in iweb?

I've designed a new website using iWeb. (I'm a beginner and have never done this before.) I published it to MobileMe. The site is for a volunteer organization, which requires that all pictures and images have text tags. (For this purpose, I assume that's the same as Meta tags.) A rep at the local Apple store clued me into iWebSEO Tool ("SEO"). I used it successfully got all my pictures and images tagged, altho it was hard and took a few hours. This was two months ago. I checked my site earlier this week and all the tags have disappeared. I went back to SEO and all my original work was still there. So I hit re-apply and then saved and republished my site. Still no tags. I have several questions. Is this a regular problem with SEO? Do I have to do all the tags over again? Is there any easier solution? Is Apple going to improve iWeb so this is not a problem in the future? I'll appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

  • Can't access my website created through iWeb due to reinstalling OSX

    G'day people
I had to reinstall OSX and as a consequence, when I start iWeb it tells me I don't have a site and wants me to start a new one.
My site is still online, I can go to it through the URL, I just can't figure out how to be able to access and modify it through iWeb.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Al

Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. Sadly, many many people learn this the hard way. Sounds like you have too Sorry
I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). Click here to download it or visit http://iweb.varkgirl.com for more info. The app will make a .zip file of your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and save it to a location of your choosing.
Then check out Mozy for an online place to store your backups - I just found this and it seems great. They just recently released a Mac friendly version of their app - it automates the upload and encryption. You select the files you want to backup and it does the rest. You can set it to upload automatically after so many minutes of inactivity or once a day. It does it all in the background so you don't have to worry about it! 2GB of storage are free - plenty of room for most people's iWeb Domain.sites backups!
