Changing account name under advanced settings

Users and Groups:
Under Advanced Options: there is the Account Name
I would like to change the account name. There is a warning that comes up changing these settings might damage
this account. Anyone have any experience with this being a problem when the name was changed.

In what advanced settings? Which app?
You can't change the main email address belonging to your iCloud account, if that's what you're trying to do. You would have to create an entirely new iCloud account from scratch.
Or are you trying to create an 'email alias'. You can have up to three of these - they are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the sam inbox as your main address. Please see:

You would have to sign out in order for your account name to not be visible.
Click your account name then click Sign Out.

That's not the correct port. It should be 993 for incoming.
If you signed into iCloud from the System Preferences, it should automatically create the iCloud account for you in Mail. Sounds like it is an account you already had set up for MMe in Mail.
Open Mail preferences, open the Accounts tab, disable that account in the advanced pane.
Open Sys Prefs, open the iCloud tab, and sign out of iCloud. Then sign back in and see if a new iCloud account is automatically created.

Each Volume (partition) on a device has a name.
When it is mounted it will appear with that name as an icon on the desktop, and under devices in the sidebar.
Typically a USB flash drive would only have one volume.
They may initially come with names like Untitled or No_Name etc.
When mounted you can rename any USB drive (Or individual Volume if there is more than one partition) by using the mouse to select the name on the Desktop and hold the selection in you can edit the name. That name will stay with that particular drive and will show every time it is mounted.
CDs and DVDs may well have a name which will show when they are mounted. When you make a CD or DVD you can provide a name when making it.
It is good practice to name a new thumb drive or USB disk when you get it to avoid the confusion you seem to be having. Simialrly to name any DVDs or CDs you create

You mean the Username. Not much there. That's not the short name. It takes quite a bit to change a short name, and it is seriously dangerous.

How to change account name for iCloud on ipad

Recently needed to change my apple I.d. It seems to have messed up my iCloud account. When I go to update the iCloud info in my settings on my iPad, it shows the previous apple I.d. As the iCloud account name... But, there doesn't appear to be a way to change it here. Can anyone tell me what to do?

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.

To sign-in and sign-out, on the iPod go to Settings>Store and sign-out of existing account and sign into another one.

Can't change account name in icloud after updating my email account

I changed my Apple ID to a new e-mail account. When accessing iCloud from my iphone 4s, I am unable to change my account name to match my new Apple ID & email account.

To change your iCloud ID, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account then sign back in with the changed ID. This will delete the account and your synced data from from device but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.
Before deleting the account, save your photo stream photos to your camera roll (tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll).

I'm trying to find the process to change the name on my wife and I's account. I'm the primary user and have the gamers club attached to it. I have trouble when I pick this up occasionally. All of the beta keys and such also go to her email and its a horrible PITA. She bought the gamer club for me and registered it under the phone number we always use which has her name listed. Just didn't realize the hassle it would cause when we moved from gamestop.
How can I either change the name to my name or register the gamer club to me.

How do you change e-mail under advanced in icloud

My son started up the icloud setup and made the email address incorrect. How do I change it. It is greyed out under advanced?

Go to https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/, click Manage your Accout, sign in, select Name, ID, and Email Address on the left pane, click Edit next to your Primary Email Address to the right, enter a new non-Apple email address (cannot be associated with another existing ID) and save the change, then click the verify now link to send the verification email to this address.

Changed account name and old music files no longer can play

I changed my account name to an e-mail address that I currently use. since I moved the old one I could no longer access any longer. Well they have a feature to do that so I took it so it would be easier to remember the account and password. thing is since I changed none of the songs that I purchased with the old account name can be played any longer. they need to be Reauthorized.
No biggie right just type in the old account name and password and I'll be on my way. Wrong :P
According to the music store the old account does not exist. Well of course not that is because I changed it. I check to see my account history under the NEW account and it has all the files I ever downloaded since I first installed iTunes! If this is the case why on earth can I not play the files purchased under my old account under the new accounts name! did I make a mistake by not deauthroizing my computer before changing account? because it is not mentioned in the instructions to do so! Grrr... normally I'd just say oh well but it's most of my iTunes library!

Problem Resolved!
I was sent back an e-mail stating that I did not make a second account but changed my account name from (accounts will be withheld for security) one to the other. Problem?
Files downloaded from the other account name would not work with the one that I was currently using.
Issues further complicating the matter. My computer recently was having Power supply issues and I reformated my computer several times. Not realizing that this left iTunes Music store saying that I had 5 computers authorized on my account because I had not deauthorized any of the computers each time. Couldn't really, windows crashed out and I couldn't get to it. So when I got everything ironed out on my computer. I couldn't play any of my songs becaus I had reached maximum authorizations! even Deauthorizing and reauthorizing didn't work.
Solution:: Login to your (working) account and go to your account summary. Click on the button that says "Deauthorize ALL computers" This will wipe all computers that you had associated with your account to play your songs. Not that big of deal because all you have to do is log back in. (BIG deal to ppl that don't know your password, which they shouldn't be playing yoru songs anyway!)
Once I resetted my authorization on all computers and logged back in everything was fine.
Now I think the tech that sent me the e-mail did do one thing for me. He must have enabled my old account I used to have and linked it to my current one. Because instead of my old account saying it does not exist it says it works now! yet I still login to and access my account with my new e-mail account!
So even though I would like to say everything was within my power to do myself the whole time. That is not the case. The tech did help me associate the two accounts from withing iTunes. So I can now listen to my songs at anytime I want and not be told I have 5+ computers when I only own 2 LOL

iTunes is your answer. YES! iTunes... edit your info on your account in iTunes and it should work.

Changed account name--lost songs in itunes

I changed the name on my account, and all my music files from i-tunes went with the other account. I was wondering if i plugged in my i-pod into my mac now, if that it will delete everything from my i-pod and just have the songs that are in my i-tunes now, or if it would just add the new songs?

I'm a PC user, but it sounds like your new account will have come with a set of empty user folders:- desktop, documents, music library, etc. Unless you deliberately wiped the old account, and all the files associated with it, your old iTunes library should still be on your computer somewhere. You should be able to track it down and move it to the equivalent location for your current account. When you start up iTunes your old libray should then appear. The alternative is start your new/current version of iTunes and re-import all the tracks from wherever they are hiding just now. If your old workspace is trashed and you can't recover the tracks from it then you'll want to look at something like Zevoneer's post in this thread.

Changing account name affects Time Machine?

Hi,
I would like to change the account name of the main user (it currently has the generic name "admin") according to Apple's instructions.
I was wondering though if and how this will affect Time Machine. The full name (editable via the user & login system prefs) will remain the same, as well as the computer name in the Sharing prefs.
Will TM create a new backup folder instead of continuing the existing backup?

If you change the short user name (home folder name), Time Machine will back it up in full, and prior backups of it won't appear as they used to. But you can still see them, per the pink box in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #15A.
