Changing Admin Name in Yosemite

I recently updated my MacBook Pro to Yosemite and also recently changed my last name. So after the update, I wanted to change the admin name and can not figure out how? I have successfully changed my name on iCloud, and in My Contacts. I went to system preferences>User&Groups and haven't been able to figure it out. help?

See the instructions in:Change your OS X account name and home directory name - Apple Support and note that you need to change more than just the user name.

  • How to change the admin name on Yosemite?

I just got a new MacBook Pro, the tech person that added additional memory created my admin name with a typo. It is driving me nuts.

Do you mean the "short" name or the "long" name? In either event try reading this and see if this helps solve the problem:

  • Changing admin name

my laptop recently needed fixed and they put in a new hardrive but when they reinstall the software etc they put in an admin of my dad since he took it 2 get fixed and i dont want him as my admin. i was going 2 use the reinstall cds 2 get new accounts but they installed os x tiger 2 my laptop and i dont want 2 lose that. no matter wat i do, even changing the admin name 2 the name i want it as, the short name stays the same and then everything goes back 2 the other name. when i try 2 send files that r on my desktop over msn, it doesnt come up my desktop but this other admin name and the files i want 2 send arent coming up as they r on my desktop and not this admin name. can ne1 plz help me change this admin account?

If you have the disks that came with your macbook just reinstall from them. They have tiger on them
If you do this I suggest doing a custom install. This will allow you to get rid of stuff you don't want or need. Extra language files take up around 2 gb. Then there are the 2 demo programs.
This will set you back to when you first got your MacBook and you can set the admin and shortname the way you want.

  • How do I change admin name and password on install for PS 7.0 for Mac

I have an old 7.0 full photoshop disc from a business that closed a couple of years ago. When I try and install it asks for a administrator name and password. The person who used to work for the company and install the programs on our computers is no longer around. Is there I way I can bypass this or change the name and password so I can install Photoshop on my new Mac laptop? Thank you.

Change the password with your OS X install disk. See
    here for details.

  • Changing the Admin name

How can i change the Admin name on my mac mini?

Do you mean the user account that has 'Administer this computer' privileges?
Once created, you can't (easily) alter a users name. ou could just create a new user with admin privileges and delete the old one( saving any data in the old users $HOME (~) first).

  • How do I change the admin name in the popup dialog

I am giving my old MacBook (10.6.8) to my mother and for certain reasons I didn't want to wipe it clean but just clear out some of my stuff and transfer it to her.  Everything has been successful, including changing the User directory name from mine to hers.  There is only one place that my name is still appearing:  When a change to a system setting requires a password, the password dialog box pops up with my name in it requesting my password.  If I type my password, it doesn't accept it, but if I change the name in the username box to my mother's name and put in her password, it works fine.  In other words, she is indeed the administrator now, but the dialog box still pops up with my name set.  This is a bit annoying and I would like to fix it for her, but I haven't found any ideas online.  Can someone help?  Thank you!

There is really only one good way to do this type of transfer: What to do before selling or giving away your Mac. If you aren't willing to do this, then you needed to make a new user account with admin status that would belong to your mother. Log into that new account and delete your old account. I suggest at this point you do that.

  • Yosemite changes the name of shared connection

    Hello ppl
    I've a mini recently upgraded to 10.10
This computer is shared on my network with a specific name (ie room)
After a while I see that this computer is shared with the name "room2"
Also logging on it and checking the name of sharing "room2" is reported. I set it again to the correct name, but yosemite changes it again after some time.
    Hints?
Btw: it was a clean installation

OK so I got a bit fed up with this issue, I was also going around in circles until the fix (I have waited over 2 weeks to test before posting this) came to me.
    Open System Preferences > Network
In the network section you will most likely see "Automatic" listed as your Location.  Click on your current location then click "Edit Locations".  Create a new location (I called mine Home but I do not think the name matters) then select it.  The old location can now be removed.  Apply the changes then sigh with relief.  It would seem that the location that you were using when upgrading to Yosemite somehow got corrupted.
I hope that this is a fix that also is workable for you too

  • How do I Change the Name of My MacBook and Why was it Changed after the Upgrade to Yosemite?

    Hi everyone,
I upgraded my MacBook Air (2012) to Yosemite a few months back and it changed the name of my Mac from "Alan's MacBook" to "Alan MacBook Air (2)." I simply want to know how to change it back to the original name. Also, why was it changed in the first place after my upgrade to Yosemite?
    Thank you so much!!!

This was a common bug in Yosemite. Follow dwb's instructions but also restart your router. Make sure you're running OS X 10.10.2 since it was supposed to have been addressed with that update.
I have heard allegations regarding simultaneous use of both Wi-Fi and Ethernet (or equivalent adapter, considering it's a MBA) but can find no justification for them, and I never personally observed any correlation to it. It's perfectly acceptable to use both.

How do I change the computer's Admin name so that I can give it away?

There is copy protected software and a licensed copy of OS X that the next owner isn't allowed to use nor can update.
Your supposed to erase all software from the machine and return it to the OS X version that came with it, 10.6 is the earliest you can go.
How do I securely delete data from the machine?
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
How to reformat a used Mac

  • On changing 10.6 server's admin name...

Unlike Mac workstation admin users's short name, it appears like one could change the Admin name in Snow Leopard server.
    Can that be done?
I'd like to rename the server administrator, rather than make a new admin and then delete the old one.

    Hi
You can't easily do this for the administrator account on either Server or Client. Not without some consequences. You can change the Long Name easily enough but it's the short name where you'll have problems. What you should do is create another administrator account - one that has the desired name - log in with it and delete the other one, making sure you save the home folder. Assuming you have data you want to keep?
Alternatively add the desired name an alias or another short name for the existing admin account and use that instead. You can do that a number of ways. Probably the easiest is to use the Accounts Preference Pane. Click the lock, authenticate and hold down the Control Key whilst clicking on the User. Select Advanced. The rest is fairly obvious. Another way is to use WorkGroup Manager. Select the Account and add another short name. Yet another way would be to use the command line.

  • How do I change my computer name or admin name

When I first got my imac it called itself "firsname lastname's imac"  (with my name, of course) and that apparently was my admin name too .. somehow I managed to change my admin name .. (I think),  and have been using that ever since.  However, whenever it is required, I am presented with the firstname lastname's imac, and a space for the password.. I have always jsut chaged this to my admin name and added the password.
However, I need to get my self back to java 6 and cannot do it because the terminal gives me no option to change from 'firstname lastname's imac' as the admin name .. so nothing I do will allow me to tell it to give me the java 6 back.
Please can someone help with this?

Very easy to do. Just go to: System Preferences › Sharing › Computer Name and change the name.

  • How do I change my short name on Yosemite OS X? I can't seem to do it the way I used to change it all the time on Mavericks.

I can't seem to do it the way I used to change it all the time on Mavericks.
There was a text box after I clicked on the lock after I went to Users and Groups in System Preferences, but now it's gone.
By short name, I mean the name that appears on your lock screen when you log in.
    P.S. I use a MacBook Air Early 2014 version, 13-inch.
I upgraded to Yosemite 2 days ago.

I found how to do it.
Go to SystemPreferences - Users&Groups - Right-click on your account at the left hand side bar- change your FULL NAME ONLY
If you change anything else the system might break but changing the full name causes no damage.
So I changed my name and am working fine with my Mac.
    Cheers!

  • Very odd Admin name change problem

I just got a new MacBook Pro and when I set it up I mistakenly left the user name as my whole name. All my other computers are set to mattb.
So, I used NetInfo manager to go in as root and change all the names over to mattb and it works fine except, mattb is set up as an admin account, but when installing software or updates and it ask to authenticate, it won't allow mattb to work. I'll typically just use root, but that's not what I really want to do.
My guess is that somewhere there is a file that holds the admin names inside it that are allowed (like a sudo config) to do so.
Any ideas? I'll keep exploring, as this is not a major issue, but it would be nice to fix it.

Update: Ok, that didn't take me too long to figure out. Sorry to waste time.
I needed to change the group memberships as well in the NetInfo Manager. Several of the groups had the full name in there still.

Chances are you mis-typed a character in the Wifi password and the devices saved that information.  Now whenever you try to connect the device refers to the wrong password and the Jetpack does not accept your connection.  Tell your devices to forget the wireless connection and start over.
Once you enter the proper WiFi credentials the Jetpack will allow you to connect.
