Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Launch AirPort Utility, select the AirPort Express on the left, and click "Manual Setup". Select the AirPort panel, Wireless tab. You should see the security settings in the lower part of that window. Once you change them, click the "Update" button.

  • I changed my WRT54G security settings from WPA to WEP

I changed my WRT54G security settings from WPA to WEP and now one of my latops (Dell 5100) will not connect wirelessly. It is using a linksys wireless-B notebook adapter. I am at a loss at how to reconnect this to my wireless network.

Go to the setup page of the router on the wired computer and click on the Wireless tab, check the network name(SSID),change the Wireless Channel to 11-2.462 GHz,Keep the SSID broadcast enable and click on save settings...Click on the subtab Wireless Security and change the Security mode to WEP or WPA as per your requirement. If you are using WEP then, note down the KEY1 as the network key(case sensitive)...
Now,on the laptops, delete the preferred network and then, try to connect the Wireless Network.

  • HT1515 can I make the Airport Express secured so no one else can use it?

Can I make the Airport Express secured so no one else can use it?

Choose a security protocol, WPA2 personal suggested. Then choose and install a strong password. Only users who are cognizant of your password will be able to connect to your wifi network. Of course, you'll need to do this via your Airport Utility application.

  • Airport Express Security - Someone seems to be using my internet

I have tried to password protect my network, but the password/wep security keeps disappearing. Is there some way I can be assured that my network is 100% secure and no one can access my internet? Just recently, my download usage has increased drammatically, even when I am not at home to use it.

    hi,
Airport Express can also support WPA which is more secure. I'm not sure what you mean by WEP is disappearing. Once a encryption is activated, someone will need to have your administrator password to remove it.
Use the Airport Network Administrator utility located in your Utilities folder which is inside the Application Folder. It will allow you to go to the Airport Express setting and change the security settings. I suggest you to use WPA encryption.

  • Airport Extreme & Airport Express security

My computer is connected to an airport base station (for satellite wireless) and we have another computer -- a MacBook Pro -- that requires the boost from an airport express in order to connect. I want to add security to our wireless connection. When I went into the airport utility and changed to one of the password protected options (it didn't matter which), the MacBook Pro would only connect if it's in very close proximity to the base station. It's as if the airport express isn't active or recognized. I've tried moving it around and it doesn't help. If I go back into airport utility while in the passport activated status, the airport express isn't listed as a device. If I return the settings to no security at all, then the airport express is listed and works just fine.
Do I need to change the settings on the express? More broadly, how can I add password security without impairing the connectivity within the house? We have stucco walls which have metal lathe inside them, so the connection is very tricky.
Thanks so much for any assistance.

You should set both units to the same type of security and the same network password. If at some point AirPort Utility has trouble "seeing" one of the units, try connecting your Mac to it with an Ethernet cable.

  • Airport Express Security Access

    Hello:
Can anyone out there tell me how I can limit access to my wireless network? I just found oput that my next door neighbor can surf the internet using MY Aiport Express wireless signal from my house, and i can't find any mention on how I can shut off access to anyone but the computers in my house I want to be online. Thabnks for your help on this. Regards, Labrat3
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Single best solution - enable WPA wireless security (with a password) on your Airport Express. To do this...
Run the Airport Admin Utility. Select your Express, click to configure. Click on the Airport tab, click on the "Wireless Security" button. Select the WPA for home/office protocol. Enter a non-dictionary password of at least eight characters. Update settings to the Airport Express.
On your Mac, reconnect to your Airport Express wireless network. You will be prompted to enter a password - type in the same password you just entered on the Airport Express.
That's it. WPA security is in practical terms not hackable, so it will be impossible for anyone who doesn't know the password to your Airport Express to connect to it.
There are still more settings you can configure to make your Airport Express less accessible to outsiders, like implementing MAC address based access control and enabling the "create a closed network" feature. However, since no one is going to get past your WPA security anyway, these other measures are unnecessary.

  • Changing Airport Express Password

I just set up an airport express router and need to change the password.  I have tried to change it under the aiport utility, but I keep getting an error message:  "Router address not compatible with WAN IP address."  What can I do?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Airport Express Security problems

I've just bought a MacBook and want to connect it to an Airport Express. I also have a clamshell ibook that I want on the Express also.
When I set it up with no security, I'm able to access the internet on both computers. But when I put password protection on the Airport (WPA Personal) through the Macbook, I can't access the internet on the Ibook. Every time I enter the password, it doesn't accept it.
When I take the password protection off, then both computers can again access the internet. What am I doing wrong here?

My Macbook has an Airport Extreme with WPA2 Personal. The ibook has an Airport card with only WPA on it. Talked to Apple customer support and it was suggested that I try WEP for security. Did that and it works.
    Thanks for responding.

  • CHANGE DEFAULT NAME/SECURITY SETTINGS = LOWER CONNECTION SPEED

I have a Linksys WirelessN Router--If I use the router with all of the default settings I can achieve cable speeds of 300mbps. Fantasically fast!!! As soon as I change the name of the router from "Linksys" to any other name, my speed drops back down to 54mbps. I also changed the security settings to "PSK Personal" and added a personal password so my system wouldn't get "hyjacked." Any thoughts?

Hi… logon to router’s setup page, try changing Radio band to wide 40MHz, wide channel to 9, standard channel to 11, go to advanced wireless settings reduce beacon interval to 50, fragmentation and RTS threshold to 2304, change N Transmission rate to 270MBps…wireless security should be PSK personal, also try upgrading latest firmware on router, check whether it makes any difference or not.

  • Changing Airport Express name problems

I have three Airport Expresses on a recently set-up network in three different rooms in my house, everything works fine as far as the connections and transmission but here's the problem I can't figure out how to correct. The Airport Express units were from another network at another house where I also used my two Macs, a Macbook and an iMac. The Airports had different room/location ID's/names at the old place, so when I set them up here I gave them new station names according to where they were placed. The names changed fine on the Airport Express's but didn't change on the two Macs. So, how do I reset the station names on the computers in iTunes, does anyone know?

I'm having the same problem. I looked at the Preferences, but can't find any solution.
Anyone at Apple know how to fix this. The folks at the store don't.

  • Changed Airport Express names, not showing correctly in iTunes

I needed to swap the location of two Airport Express units, and I renamed them accordingly. They show up properly within Airport Utility/OS X, but within iTunes they seem to be cached to their old names. How do I reset them, flush the cache, or simply get them to show properly within iTunes?

    another forum answered it.
airport utility, manual setup, music tab, there is a space for the name to show in itunes.
    simple and solved.

  • Airport Express Security.

Can anyone help? I have put a password on my wireless network , this was all done in the airport admin utility section. This is a WPA2 Personal, change my base staion name, and airport name, then reset my airport. My airport status in menu bar shows that it works, and hey presto it works. I come to swith my Mac on the next day and no internet connection. I go to airport status in menu bar again and pick the network that I set up, still no internet. So I choose other network, put, which still doesnt let me connect. i can this time go back to the network I sent up, again this asks me for my passwod which I put in, and again I can go on the internet. This will happen everytime I turn my Mac on. Yet it only asked me once when using my ibook and this works everytime no problem. If I reset my airport base staion, to original settings, it works fine. I hope someone can make sence of all this. Many thanks.

    Try the following, in order...
    Delete Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
    Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
    - Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
    - Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    - Restart, or log out then back in.
    Add Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
    - Restart or log out then back in.

  • Airport Express Security - Limiting Access for Kids

I have an Airport Extreme network. Would like to let my kids use a laptop for homework, but don't want them to be able to access internet without asking first. Is there a way to set up security so that laptop cannot access wireless network unless password is entered EACH time? THX

James, Welcome to the discussion area!
On your Mac, configure the OS X Network preferences so that AirPort is disabled.
Give your kids a non-admin OS X user account.
If they need to access the Internet, they will need to find you so that you can modify the Network preference pane to enable AirPort. After they are done, you will need to disable AirPort before their next use.

  • 6.0.2 BUG REPORT - iTunes doesn't remember Airport Express volume settings!

    Incompetent engineers!!
Whilst I'm here, why does the 'iTunes Feedback' menu option take me to a 'Request' page? Incompetent marketeers!!

Use the Mac OS X Feedback form to send iTunes feedback. Do not click on the iTunes link on this form, it will take you to the music request form.

  • How to Change Security Settings on an Existing Wireless Network

I'd like to change existing network security settings to WPA2, AES or at least to from TKIP to AES.
I'm familiar with browser access to the router and with how to change the settings on the router.
My question is how to do this as painlessly as possible for the network.  Step by step would be nice
I guess first I have to change the router settings using the computer running Easy Link Advisor?
Do I then have to disconnect/reconnect that computer?
Do I have to disconnect every other computer and then connect each one again with the updated settings?
Will the change in security settings affect my print server?  If so, do I have to set it up from scratch in ELA?
For the record, I have a WRT-300N and the print server is a 54g.
Anyone who reads this may also want to look into recent news.  May not be a big deal, but a vulnerability of WPA/TKIP has been identified.
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

Do I really need to set security for my wireless connection. I searched for available WiFi in my area prior to installing my  network and none were available. Does that matter?
The network never did function right from the start. My desktop is a Dell Inspiron 510n and is not wireless capable? So when I tried to add my HP mni 1000 it did not let me access the Internet.
So now I have an unsecured network. Am I vulnerable to attack?
Which leads me to my real question How do I change the security settings?
Oh yeah, my home computer crashed due to a program I downloaded, so I do not have access to it. i'm a mess....
    Thanks,for any help
