Changing Album and Track Info

I've run into an issue where I go to the "Get Info" screen to edit album and track information and it's 'grayed' out and won't allow me to make any changes. Additionally, there is no place for me to add album artwork as in other albums.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Check your permissions on the folders iTunes uses. Also check and make sure your account is still an administrator account. I installed iTunes on this XP computer at work, virgin install, and after installing iTunes and QT and I rebooted, I found I had been removed as an administrator and had to get our IT people to change my user account back to administrator. I couldn't even delete icons off the desktop after the install.

  • How to sync the album and track info that I entered into a CD using iTunes with the actual disc?

    Hello,
I recently recorded some cover songs, and I imported them into iTunes. So, after entering the track info (track names and album art) into each track using "Get Info", I burned them to a CD. I was completely shocked that the track info and album artwork did not get inputted onto the CD. So, I entered the track info, but could not add the album artwork.
How to add the album artwork is not as important a question. But it's one of my 2.75 questions.
My other issue is that the info that I put on the CD using iTunes is only visible within iTunes. Therefore, I cannot get the track names elsewhere.
    My 2.5 questions are:
    1) How do I get the track and album info to display in Windows Explorer and Windows Media Player (and the touchscreen CD Player in the car)?
    2) How do I add digital album artwork to the CD (so that it shows on the touchscreen CD Player in the car - if iPods have the artwork and it shows on the car's screen, a CD should be able to show the artwork on the car's screen, when talking about limitations of the car)
2.5) How do I make that artwork display across everywhere I plug that disc into?
2.75) How do I ensure that when others import my CD, my artwork, track names, and album name also import from the CD?
I have already burnt the CD, so I would prefer a way to tweak the properties of the already burnt CD rather than burning a whole new disc.
    Thank you!
    -Royce

    1) Metadata visibility in Windows Explorer and/or Windows Media Player depends on OS version and file type. The mp3 format has the widest support. As for the touchscreen CD Player in your car who can say? If it can play data discs the results will be better than with audio CD. If it can display CD text then this option should be selected when creating an audio CD.
    2) Artwork cannot be attached to the tracks on an audio CD. If your car system supports it all then it will be with data discs. Check the specifications of the system for the media types it can support on a data disc.
2.5) Simply ensure the artwork is embedded in the tag.
I have two scripts that can help with this, CreateFolderArt and EmbedFolderArt.
The scripts have a slightly different purpose.
CreateFolderArt ensures that every album folder ends up with a Folder.jpg image which is the art that iTunes already knows about. Side effects are that if artwork has been updated in iTunes the folder art should be updated also, and if any track from the album doesn't have embedded artwork it gets embedded.
EmbedFolderArt was actually written for someone who already had various artwork images stored in the folders and wanted them added to their tracks, but not if iTunes had already downloaded a better quality image.
2.75) Again, use a data disc format. Note that you should not be giving away copies of copyrighted material.
Audio CDs are finalized, you cannot change any properties of them unless they are on rewritable media in which case you can erase the whole disc and start over.

    Hello Flemcat,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are missing content from iTunes library. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Transfering music and track info between personal computers

Does anyone know if it's permissible to transfer music and track info that I purchased from itunes between my two personal laptops? If so, what are the steps?

Yes. You can move/copy them wherever you like for your own personal use.
You can copy them to a cd,dvd, flash drive, external drive, etc. then copy them wherever you like.

  • Itunes erased all the album and artist info when reloading library!!!

My problem is a big one. I've got 8600+ songs (800+ albums) on my hard drive. These are all from physical CDs; I ripped them in wav, then converted them to mp3. When I did this, I kept both the wav AND mp3 files in each respective album folder; about 400G of wav and 80G of mp3.
OK, so a couple weeks ago I got hit with a virus. It messed up my XP OS to the point where I needed to do a reformat and reinstall. All of my music files are on an external hard drive, so no big deal there. I finish the reinstall, re-download itunes, and tell it where to find my music, and to import it into the library.
This is where things go horribly wrong. Itunes imports all the mp3 files in as separate folders/albums, just like before, with all the track and artist info intact. However, for some reason, it took all the wav files and dumped them into one giant Unknown Artist/Unknown Album folder. In doing so, it appears to have stripped the artist AND album info from every single one of the 8600+ tracks! I don't know why it did this, as the wav files in the itunes folder all had the exact same track info as the mp3s.
My question now is: is there any way I can get this info BACK, any program that can look at the individual tracks and figure out what artist and album they go with? Or is there something within itunes that can do it that I haven't found yet? There's no way I can go through and do this track by track; I can't even begin to calculate how long that'd take. My only OTHER option would be to re-rip all the CDs, but again, that took months the first time and I don't want to do it again. However, these files are pretty much useless as they are, in a giant pile that seems only to be organized by the songs' respective track numbers.
I am screaming HELP in capital letters here. Even if I could find a program or solution that would find MOST of the tracks' info, I'd be happy. I'd also be interested in knowing why itunes did this in the first place, for future reference.
And just to head off one solution I expect to be offered, no, I did not have the files backed up anywhere else; reimporting an un-reorganized version of the library isn't an option. I had just finished ripping them and hadn't picked up a second hard drive yet. I know, first thing I should have done.
In any event, any help would be appreciated. Please feel free to email me. Thanks.

I just remembered some older posts talking about some software from musicbrainz.org.
It might be able to make some sense out of all those WAV files, if you decide to spend the time on it. Honestly I'd prefer to rip my CDs than go through something like that, because I'm a control freak and would not trust the program to really find the right info....but that's just me. It might be easy to set up and a snap to use, for all I know.

  • ITunes 11.0.2 isn't importing album and track titles

This just started yesterday.  The past 3 CDs I've tried to import have no information.
I get: The song names for this CD could not be found online. Do you still want to import the songs?
I'm online, my computer stays networked.
This just started, so none of my settings have been changed.
More than one CD is effected, different artists and companies make the CDs
    What could be the issue?

I'm having the same issue on a PC (I'll post it in the relevant thread next). I am getting this message whilst trying to import various CDs, all of which are well know commerical artists. I am connected to the Internet, so that is not an issue. I have previously imported them to a different computer with no issues getting the track names. Yesterday some CDs listed track names (oddly one double CD didn't recognise names for Disc 2, but did for Disc 1), but today none have listed the track names.
It's very frustrating as entering the names of the songs is quite time consuming (not to mention the album and artist name for each album).

  • Multiple entries for one album and tracks are diveded between entries

After adding all my music into iTunes I have some albums listed multiple times with one or two tracks listed in each one. How can I get all the tracks for that album listed all together? Also is there any way to import album art from another program. Windows media player has all the album art and iTunes is missing about 40 percent of them?

Well, I tried everything in that article and when all my albums are in cover flow view multiple albums covers show for that one album. When I type in the album name, it narrows down to 1 CD.
As far as not being able to retrieve album artwork, I just do a google image search. After I have saved the pictures I go to the info for any song in that album and add it to artwork.

  • Does iOS have the ability to automatically show me shipping and tracking info or flight status based on information in my email?

I am considering switching from an android to an iPhone and one of the features I use heavily on my android is my google now cards. It automatically reminds me to check in for flights and gives me flight status information based on flight information in my email. It then shows me a card for the weather where I am and where I'm going. I also use it for shipment tracking; if i have an email that has a shipping confirmation number, I have a google card that automatically shows me the tacking number and tracking status. I was wondering if Apple had something similar and if it was through Siri or something else? I have an iPad and I haven't seen features like these on it. Everything I've read about Siri so far is that the information given is based on you prompting with a question as opposed to proactively giving me information I need, which is more how I use my android today. If the answer is to us the google now app for iOS, does will it interface with my email and calendar to make relevant cards seamlessly on the iPhone like it currently does on my android phone? Thanks in advance for the help/advice!

  • How do I retrieve lost album and artist info in my music library?

In trying to add an album just purchased from itunes onto my ipod, for some reason the album shows up in my library but will not sync to the ipod adn I get a sync error.  After resetting the ipod numerous times, I found advice online that suggested tinkering with the "get info" and deselecting compilation settings.  In doing this, I've managed to lose all song info except for the song title-- no album, artist, year, artwork, etc.  Going back through Get Info and checking those boxes only results in the same list of songs, with no other info, in my library... help!??

Without connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to preferences.  On the Devices tab is a list of your available backups.  Unless a newer one is listed your can't get you information back.  If a newer backup is listed, do the following:
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences.  On the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
Connect your phone to your computer, right-click on the name of your phone when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar and select Restore from Backup, choose your most recent backup to restore from.
When complete, you can go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing.
Your apps should be in your iTunes library and can be synced back to your phone.  If they aren't, redownload them in iTunes for free (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519) and sync them back to your phone.

  • Get Album and Song Info AFTER Import?

I imported a bunch of CDs at home, where I have no internet connection.
I brought my laptop in to work today and I am hoping iTunes will use the internet connection here to find info about the songs, albums etc.
How do I make this happen?
    Thanks!

    hy iosion,
simply use "gimme some tune".it gets all the information you need.even lyrics.
and when it comes to rippeng cd`s,symply forget the itunes decoder.it is a schame how poor the quality of itunes is when it comes to ripping and conversion into mp3.
do yourself a favour and yous itunes-lame.
it is very simple, integrates into itunes and the quality is extreme good because it uses the lame-mp3 decoder.

  • Changing album and page colors

I am creating a book and would like to change the outside cover from Green to Red. The only option showing up in background is green or white. The same issue goes for the colored pages of the album. I would like the pages to be red and white not green and white.
Any suggestions on how to expand the color pallet. I have 20 books to order and am not having any luck.

  • I just bought QOTSA new album and track 8 smooth sailing wont work

Anyone having troubles with track #8 smooth sailing?  It is telling me that my computer is not authorized to play it but when I enter my password it tells me it is and wont play the song.

Delete the defective track from the iTunes library, allowing iTunes to move the track file to the Recycle Bin. Then download the track again from the iTunes Store via this procedure:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
That fixes the problem for many people. If problems with the track persist, go here:
    iTunes Support
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

    please help

A response on this subject from another post:
It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
    ramstigo wrote:
I had an earlier post on this subject with a similar problem. I tried what you suggested and it worked indeed. You can select the artists from your Ipod on Itunes and after highlighting the artists/albums affected, click NO on the compilation box and the issue is resolved: the artists appear on the list.
    Thank you so much!!!!.

  • Some Track Info Gone Missing in AAC

Recently I trasferred 4000 songs from one computer to another. All but 100 transferred without problem, but 100 tracks came over missing album and date info. I re-transferred these 100 with the same result. All are AAC. Any idea?
Lost count   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

That worked, by golly. I followed your advice and changed the "missing" fields and then reverted to the original info and the missing fields transferred correctly. Unfortunately, this fix requires one to go to every missing field in every track, change it, save it, revert, and save it again. I tried changing/adding other info, but this does not work. Strangely, when the original (seemingly fine) track is copied out of iTunes, then deleted in iTunes, then transferred back (on the same computer), the info goes missing! The tag must be corrupt, I suppose.
