Changing an application icon

Is it possible to change the icon of an application ?
For example: the "text edit" icon to a typewriter or the "iPhoto" icon to a DSLR...
I have some icon designs already saved in iPhoto.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Select the image you wish to use and place it on the clipboard. Select the application then Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Click in the small icon box in the top left to select it, then press COMMAND-V to paste the image from the clipboard.

  • Changing the "applications" icon without Candy Bar...

... and without the icon reverting to its original upon restart. Is it possible? If yes, would someone be so kind as to give detailed instructions. I would be most appreciative.
New mac user, please be kind.
    PowerBook, 15 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Thanks for the prompt response.
I did search the topic prior to posting and found similar advice. This process has worked well for all of my icon substitutions with the exception of the "Applications" icon in the Finder. After restarting my computer, I find the this icon reverts to its default.
    Any suggestions?

  • Changing stack applications icon in the dock

    Dear readers,
Do anyone now how to change the aperence of the application's stack in the dock. The stacks automaticly vieuw the contents of the folder. but i dont like that because you cant see clearly if it is the applications folder or the download folder.
    greetings
    Valentijn

do you have an advanced copy of 10.5.2? the options you describe are not currently available but are reportedly present in 10.5.2.
back to the original poster's question. You can wait a few days till 10.5.2 comes out and then you'll be able to do what Kappy says. If you don't want to wait you can put an image (or an icon) file in the folder used for your stack and rename it so that it comes first alphabetically. This way your stack will (mostly) look like that image.

  • Application icons!

    Hey
I have just done the latest update, and as has happened with everyone else it has messed up all the settings and display. I will get used to it, same as when I first got the phone. However the only issue I have is I cant remember how to change the application icons at the bottom of the main screen. I did it originally, but cant remember, can anyone help? Thanks in advance

  • Can I change the Firefox icon permanently?

I've been trying to change the Firefox/Nightly icons to a custom icon that will show in the taskbar. I've tried using resource hacker to fix it, but after I restart my computer or wait long enough the changes will disappear and the icons will go back to normal.
The icon for the firefox.exe in the programs will change to the icons I want once I use resource hacker, but when I turn my computer back on they go back to the default ones. Is there a way to change the icon "permanently" and still be able to change it back when I want it back?
    Thanks.

Change it as you would any taskbar icon:
    # Right-click the Nightly icon on the taskbar.
    # In the menu that pops up, right-click Nightly and choose Properties.
    # In the Properties window, click the Shortcut tab.
    # Click the Change Icon button, select your custom icon and click the OK button.
    # Click the OK button to close the Properties window.
    # If Nightly is currently running, you'll may need to exit and restart it for the change to take effect.
There's a way to change the application icon in Firefox, but it won't affect much. If you've already done the above, then in current versions of Windows it'll probably only affect the icon shown in the Alt+Tab application switcher.
Name your icon ''main-window.ico'' and place it in the following folder. The folder doesn't exist by default and must be created manually.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Nightly\browser\chrome\icons\default
Don't tamper with any Firefox installation files, the executable in particular.

  • Change Application Icon Size in iTunes.

Can anyone tell me how to change the size of the application icons in iTunes so I wouldn't have to scroll and see them all at once?
    Thanks

I haven't found a way. Maybe you can talk Apple into this for the next upgrade.

  • Changing the application and folder icons

    Hello,
I am trying to follow the Mac 101 to change my folder and application icons but when I select the 'Get Info' I can't seem to select the old icon and replace it with the new one via the copy and paste system.
'Click the icon in the upper-left corner of the Info window to select it.'
It just will not let me click and select the item.
Can anyone suggest a reason for this?
    Many thanks

Is this a folder that was created by the system during an install, or a folder that you just created?
Is it on the desktop or inside another folder?
You should only need to click on the folder icon top left Get Info window once to select it...it should glow slightly to indicate it is selected.
Go to the Applications folder and do a get info and select, then use the keyboard to copy cmd-c....then go to a folder you've created and select and hit cmd-v to paste....the special icon that is used for the Applications folder should the be the icon on the folder you created.

When you click the icon, it directs you to Yahoo.  I have had this issue before but the last time the icon was changed to wikipedia.  The last time this happened, i reset my phone.  I bought this phone new almost 2 years ago and have been the sole owner and I have never attempted to jailbreak my phone.  Does anyone know what the issue could be?

The problem is now resolved. The only thing that I did was to make netscape the default. I always the write code. I think that somehow I must have hit publish, I still am still not sure. Thanks for all the help

  • Applications icon changed, why?

On dragging the applications icon from the "Get info"screen of Applications to the dock, it changes the appearance from a light blue folder with the A for applications to something looking like the calender icon @ with a clock behind it. Why?

Thanks for the quick reaction. The change occurs on my wife's computer, so I will have to log in there and then send you the screenshot.

  • The color  of applications icon changed to dark color, what does it mean

it happened twice, applications icon changed from red to dark red for a while?

    Hello Omar,
Maybe you've found out by now but I believe it's because the apps are 'refreshing'. I think this is new to iOS 7 because I don't remember it happening before...
If you go into your settings-->general--> and about halfway down the list is BACKGROUND APP REFRESH.
I wish I could include a picture to make it easier but if you go into this setting you will see a list of all the apps that will refresh and also the master switch that turns them all off.. I'm not sure what it's doing when it's refreshing tho, maybe checking for updates or location?
    Hope this helps,
    Mister

  • How can my application icons draw slowly?

I'm trying to trouble shoot how it's possible that my new MP 5,1 is slow to draw simple application icons when first opening the Applications folder, I see generic icons until they resolve to the actual ones.
My previous MP1,1 with dual 8-Core upgrade never did this and this machine, Apple assures me that my new MP while only a single Quad core is a faster processor, with faster RAM and a faster Graphics Card (Radeon HD 5770).
I’m running 10.7.5 Lion but when I boot off my Snow Leopard drive (kept for needed legacy non-Lion apps), this redraw issue doesn’t happen, which I assume implies this is a software vs. hardware issue?
AppleCare suggests I do a clean install on my Lion drive, which I haven’t done over several OS upgrades, which I really should do regardless as my system software is quite the Frankenstein conglomeration by now.
But I’m still wondering, if part of the issue might be my graphics card is inadequate in the Lion environment plus running 2 monitors and should I either get a 2nd 5770 card to have a separate card for each monitor, or maybe get a 5870 for the HP 30″ monitor and use the 5770 for my Cinema Display (which is more for holding extra Desktop files and tools windows from various apps both of which are low level use).
Or is the Radeon card I’ll conceived and to do it “right” I need to swap out to a higher faster card(s).
    SPECS: 3.2 Quad Core, stock Radeon HD 5770 – running a 30″ HP LP3065 & good old 22″ Cinema Display, Lion 10.7.5
I’m also wondering if I goofed not getting the 3.3 GHz 6-Core processor instead of going with stock 3.2 Quad Core?
Or since the Snow Leopard drive draws fine with no lag time, that this is in fact probably a problem with my Lion drive and a clean install should speed things up?

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • I have the problem that other have had, PDFs changing to Firefox icons

All my PDFs had changed to Firefox icons and when trying to open them only the Firefox browser page appeared and I could not locate my files. Uninstalling Firefox worked fine, my files returned. One person mentioned imported profiles from an old computer being a cause but I was working on a new laptop with nothing imported from old equipment. I only installed Firefox because of small irritaing annoyances with Google Chrome, but those were only minor after the problems caused by Firefox. An extra couple of clicks is nothing compared with having lots my files messed up and inaccessible. None of the solutions proposed seemed particlarly useful long term so for the present not using Firefox seems the most practical cure. My difficulties occured on a laptop using Windows 7, I am typing this question on an even newer laptop with Windows 8.1 and I am now reluctant to try installing Firefox on this machine. It is a shame as my daughter always recommended Firefox as being a more secure browser.

If Firefox detects via a registry scan that there is currently no file handler application that handles PDF files and a few other file types then the Firefox updater/installer registers Firefox as the default application to handle these file types.
This causes them to show with a Firefox icon on the desktop and in other places like Windows Explorer (Bug 452254).

  • Can I 'lock' application icons, and if so, how?

The students in my classroom have recently figured out how to change an application's icon, and it's getting out of hand. Is there a way to make it so an administrator username and password must be entered to change said icons? It's getting a bit out of hand. I have this enabled on my macbook, when I try to change an icon it makes me enter my administrator username and password. However, I don't know how to enable or disable this. Thanks.

Are these in the main /Applications folder, or within their accounts ?; and are those accounts standard or admin ?.
I'm not quite clear where you'd be asked for an admin password to do that... since when I try as  standard user, Paste (or dragging an image onto the info window) is unavailable on Applications that aren't owned by the user : can you describe what you do to be prompted ?.
