Changing Atomator to 32 bit mode

I am running 10.6.1 in 64 bit mode, and because of a problem with Pixelmator Actions want to invoke Automator as 32 bit.
However when I use Get Info for Automator (or any other application) there is no check-box available for the 32 bit option, or Rosetta, or any other.
Is there somethng I need to install to make the options appear?

Truly, you gain nothing by running in 64-bit mode. So, just start up in 32-bit mode. Still, note that Automator can be forced to use 32-bit mode, but right clicking on the app, getting info, and choosing 32-mode. Here are the pertinent facts for what I said above.
As indicated, there is no advantage to running 64-bit software (or 32-bit software) in 64-bit kernel mode. However, a great deal of 32-bit software will run in 64-bit mode. The disadvantage of 64-bit mode is that all 32-bit software (e.g., Photoshop) will not run in this mode--so if you suddenly decided to run Photoshop, then you'd have to reboot.
From another perspective there is no disadvantage to running all software in 32-bit mode (which is good news for those with 64-bit processors and without the ability to boot into 64-bit mode). The point is that 64-software invokes 64-bit processing even if run in 32-bit kernel mode.
To demonstrate what I say check out the results of this brief test. I have both Geekbench 32-bit and 64-bit. I made five benchmark passes for each of the four possible combinations of Geekbench “bitness” and Sno kernel mode (e.g., 32-bit Geekbench and 64-bit kernel mode is one such combination). Below are the Geekbench averages for each combination.
(1) 64-bit Geekbench run in 64-bit mode--4,268 avg of 5
(2) 64-bit Geekbench run in 32-bit mode--4,264 avg of 5
(3) 32-bit Geekbench run in 64-bit mode--3,910 avg of 5
(4) 32-bit Geekbench run in 32-bit mode--3,907 avg of 5
Note that there is no significant kernel-mode-related difference in performance for 64-bit Geekbench. Same with 32-bit Geekbench.

  • Help! My copy of CS5 won't show lighting effects, and changing it to 32 bit mode does nothing

    Hi guys,
I have a copy of CS 5.1 and my system is a Macbook Pro on Mac OS 10.6.8
I want to use lighting effects, so I changed it to 32 bit mode. So I go in to Photoshop and it's not there. I reset PS's settings, restart the computer as well. Still nothing.
Wah. It worked before in the past, so why not now? Also I checked the plugin folder to make sure the lighting effect plugin was actually there and, yes it was. So what gives?
Anyway, any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated, thankyou
    Jan

Ok this is the render menu in 32 bit mode. Annndddd...
I noticed there is still the 'x64' beneath CS' title... is that supposed to be there when you boot in 32 bit mode? Or could it be that my CS just isn't loading in 32 bit?
    Anyway thanks for replying!

  • Running Macbook in 64-bit mode

    Hi there,
I've just installed Snow Leopard onto my 13" Aluminium MacBook (Late 2008 model), and noticed that my MacBook is still running in 32-bit mode.
How do I change it to 64-bit mode? I've tried holding down the 64 keys and then pressing shutdown but nothing pops up, it just shuts down as normal and is still in 32-bit mode.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

It is normal. The kernel runs on 32-bit mode, but the applications will run on 64-bit.
Running kernel in 64-bit mode is only useful if you have more than 32 GB of RAM. You won't notice any speed improvement running the kernel on 64-bit

  • 32-bit Mode

    Hi,
When I go under Safari's Info, under the label, I try and change it to 32-bit mode, but for some reason instead of saying open in 32-bit mode, it says open using Rosetta, which I have no idea what that means. I have no software named that etc...
What is going on, and how do I fix it?
    Thanks,

Unless you're running it on an early Intel Mac with a Core Duo processor, Safari 5.1 should have an option to run in 32-bit mode. Open the "About This Mac" window and check your processor type. If it's anything other than "Core Duo," then you may need to reset your LaunchServices database, which you can do most easily using the free utility "Onyx."

  • Need to run macbook pro in 32 bit mode to run and external modem how do i change from 64 bit to 32 bit

I have a macbook pro which i presume runs in a 64 bit mode. living in a country without broadband i need to use a 32 bit modem, can i change the system to run this modem at 32 bit as it wont load at 64?

Reboot holding 3 and 2, see if your modem works.
Rebooting again sets it back to 64 bit.
If 32 bit works then your fine, for now, but eventually your going to have to go 64 bit.

  • How can I get my installed plugins to show up in Logic after ive installed the plugin discs? ive tried changing the bit mode. it STILL doesn't work.???

I tried installing a program but when i open logic and scan the audio units, it doesnt come up. Even if i change the bit mode, it still doesnt show up. I even tried restarting my machine..Can anyone help me or give me some ideas.
i just wanna get this plugin to work.

Have you confirmed that the plug-in installed to one of the locations where Logic might find it? Most plug-ins go to /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components. Some (rarely) install to ~/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components (where "~" is your user folder). Look in both locations and see if the plug-in is actually there.
When installing plug-ins, if you are offered options as to what format to install, be sure to include Audio Units. Logic will not see other formats like VST, RTAS, AAX, TDM, etc. If you use other software that recognizes those formats, it's fine to install them too, just be sure you don't deselect Audio Units.
Finally, if you're sure the plug-in is installed to the right place, open the Audio Units Manager in Logic and check to see if the plug-in passed validation. Go to the main menu and choose Logic Pro > Preferences > Audio Units Manager. Check to see if your plug-in is listed there. If there's not a check mark next to it in the "Logic" column, that means it failed validation. If so, the "Compatibilty" column will tell you why. Keep in mind that if the AU is 32-bit, you have to launch Logic in 32-bit mode to see it here. Likewise, 64-bit plug-ins show up in the manager in 64-bit mode.

I am running Leopard OS in 64 bit mode. Everytime I want to run my Cisco VPN client I reboot it in 32 bit mode by holding the two keys (don't remember what two keys at the moment).  I am looking for another way to run my Cisco VPN.  I don't see the check box labeled "Open in 32-bit mode" .  The only thing I see is "Open in Rosetta" or something like that.  Is the check box "Open in 32-bit mode" only show in Lion X OS?

  • HT2404 I have a 2011 macbook pro 13".  I am trying download software for the clear network and it won't let me saying I'm running in a 64 bit mode and I need to change my computer to a 32 bit mode before downloading.  Is that possible and how do I do it?

I am trying to download software for the clear internet network.  It is telling me that I am running in a 64 bit mode and
need to be in a 32 bit mode to run their software....can I and how do I change it to a 32 bit mode?

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much.  Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it.  I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names.  isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

Try downloading the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight for Mac [http://microsoft-silverlight-mac.en.softonic.com/mac link text]. I just did this, and was able to play Netflix's streaming again--and without that "restart in 32-bit mode" button even appearing!

Why can't I select "get info" from the file area so I can change the setting to "open in 32-bit mode" ?

It may be because of your settings. You can modify that setting in System Preferences > Trackpad. Another way of making right-click is to click the app icon while holding the Control key

  • Change to 32 bit Mode

I want to use a software that comes via a site I got on Safari. Its a Sport Chalkboard, inter-active. It says I need to change something to a 32 bit Mode! How? If I change, what do I get, and loose? How do I change back? Is this a one time fix, or a constant back and forth? THANK YOU. Michael.

Select the app, CMD+I, check open in 32-bit mode. Quit the app and relaunch it. You lose nothing and gain the ability to run the app.

  • A site I use every day told me today that it would only open in 32-bit mode.  I cannot change this in system preferencees as suggested.  Could anyone explain to me why suddenly, and how to change this? (MacBook Pro 10.6.8) Thanks!

Hi.  I am in need of advice - and am not very IT savvy!  I have a MacBook Pro 10.6.8 OS.  A site I use every day told me today it would only open in 32-bit mode.  I researched and found some advice on how to choose 32-bit mode in system preferences.  I do not have that box to click in system preferences.  Can anyone tell me as to why suddenly this has happened, and any suggestions on how to go back to 32-bit mode would be great!  I did try restarting holding down the 3 & 2 keys as suggested too.  No luck.  Thanks for any help.

Does the site use 32-bit mode Java? If that's the case, you should have both 32 and 64-bit enabled though Java Preferences in your Utilities folder:
    See what you have enabled...

  • What is going on ?!?!? I can't start logic pro in 64-bit mode

I have been struggling with this issue for a while now, but I haven't made any progress. I am unable to start Logic Pro 9 in 64-bit mode. And when I say that, I mean that if I select the Logic Pro app in Finder, and say "Get Info," there is no "Start in 32-bit mode" option like all of the tutorials say to do. It used to show up, and I was able to start in 64-bit mode just fine, but suddenly, the option is not there, and the app is starting in 32-bit mode.
My Mac/OSX have been running so well, that I'm not too knowledgeable about where to even start looking for a solution. I am very comfortable with the Terminal, etc, so I can follow directions well, but I don't know where this problem stems from.
The machine is running in 64-bit mode, ie, if I do uname -a, it does return that the system is running in 64-bit mode. Logic runs just fine outside of not starting in 64-bit mode, but I want/need to be taking advantage of all of the RAM I spent so much money on.
I'm not sure what info would be needed, but here goes:
    Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008), 8-core 2.8Ghz.
    10GB RAM
    4 SATA HDDs
NVidia Geforce 8800 GT 512MB RAM
OS X Mavericks with all current updates
Logic Pro 9.1.x, again,  with all updates available.
    Steinberg UR22 audio interface (USB)
Also, I'm not sure if it matters, but I also have Windows 7 installed through Bootcamp, and it is running fine, and recognizes 32-bit/64-bit apps just fine.
I hope that's enough for someone to be able to tell me where to start looking. I really don't get it. This was happening when I first installed Mavericks. I ended up doing a fresh install from USB stick, and everything was going fine. I don't think that an update has changed things, as the last time I opened Logic, it did open in 64-bit mode. Suddenly though, that option is unavailable.
Is there a plist entry I can edit that will force it into 64-bit mode?
What part of the OS is in charge of this type of thing?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Could be corrupted preferences.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Remove the  com.apple.logic.pro.plist  file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro.
Be sure and use the ~ character in the path name.
