Changing Audio, encoder crash v3.0.0.4743
Hello,
After I upgraded to Flash Media Live Encoder 3,its crashing
when I change the Audio Device.
I'm using a Dell Laptop with Windows Vista - Ultimate 32Bits
2 GHz Core2Duo. 4 GB Memory.
I have a built in microphone + line in, when i change to
line-in it stops responding :(
I have tested On 1 Dell laptop and 1 standard computer.
Laptop has Sigmatel High Definition Audio
Std Computer Realtek High Definition Audio
Both computer has Vista Ultimate ,Laptop 32bits, Std computer
64bits.
There is no problems with version 2.5 of the encoder, on the
exact same hardware

Adobe MEdia Encoder Crashes with big files inputed
Hello,
There isn't a forum for the Adobe Media Encoder, so I thought this would be a good spot. I am an after effects and Premiere user who likes the idea Adobe seems to have of using the media encoder to cover all my encoding needs.
My typical workflow, especially since these days I'm doing more shorter form animations, is to render out to a Quicktime Animation codec file as my main archive file. From there, output all the various different web versions, flv, etc from that core archive file. Since my projects usually aren't running more than 5 minutes, this leaves me with a nice 3 - 7gig file.
Problem: I'm running CS4 and the media encoder crashes when I input files that are in this file size range. The program locks up when I push start que, and then eventually crashes. Works fine with smaller size files that are about under a gig.
I can run a render out of after effects, which seems to be more stable. But I'd love to be able to use this great new tool.
Here's my machine specs if it helps:
PC
Intel Quad Core Q9550 @ 2.83 ghz
4gB RAM
Windows Vista 64 bit ultimate
All updates current for CS4 apps as of 01/30/08
Running Adobe Media Encoder V 4.01.078
Hard drives are nothing special. 7200 rpm western digital internal and external. I've tried all sorts of hard drive configurations, where the input is coming from, where it's going, etc. No difference.
I have been experimenting with using Lossless AVI's as my "uncompressed" archive file. Works well, but same crashing with the Media Encoder.
Also tried experimenting with frame size alterations during encoding, no difference there. Also, whatever the output codec is, be it FLV, H264, etc. no difference.
Anyone have any thoughts or have experienced similar issues? I hope all my MAC friends aren't right, seems like all my attempts to streamline my workflow with this CS4 and beefy PC combo are crashing and burning.
Anyone else feeling this pain, or have recommendations?
Thanks,Thomas, thanks for your suggestions on Vista optimization. That Sheer Codec looks nice, but hard justify the cost when I've been working for years with essentially uncompressed codecs that work well. Will play more though to see if the cost would actually pay off in the long run though.
In general I made a decision that it was too early to throw in the towel on my old uncompressed codecs. The Quicktime animation codec has always been for me the safest, most universally accepted, and most reliable "uncompressed" codec. It's always worked in the past, not gonna give up just cuz media Encoder CS4 has troubles.
Mylenium, thanks for the reminder about the silly platform wars. I've always felt the same as you, but when I'm stressing sometimes the silly propaganda can get to me. Makes me forget that no matter what system ya got, it never works perfect!
Here's an update. I have trying my best to learn more about the bug and have come to some interesting realizations. The AME does work with larger files, just not the larger files that I had been using at the current moment. Older files of mine as big as 20GB can be inputed into AME with fine results.
This being said, it scratches out most of the RAM overload thoughts with AME.
The difference with my current files that were causing AME crashes: larger than a few GB, came from AE, had the 1.21 pixel aspect ratio metadata.
When I re-interpreted the file in AE into a square pixel aspect ratio, exported it, it was then successfully inputed into AME.
I have read just now that there were changes in After Effects widescreen pixel aspect ratio interpretation in CS4. Can this change be causing problems in my AME. Not positive, but I'm now thinking after many days of testing that the bug could have its roots somewhere in this ball park.
If anyone from Adobe is reading this, I would love any ideas you might have on this issue. In general, there is really no support for the Adobe Media Encoder itself. This is not good, considering how it is so necessary for AE and Premiere users like myself.

Solution to audio encoding problem achieved
I was using clips from my Sanyo Xacti Camcorder, imported into iMovie as mpeg 4 files and unable to finish the project in iDVD as the error would come in the audio encoding stage.A quick test is to export the iMovie files through Quicktime and it would stop cold, saying something is wrong with the file.
Going through the forum here,many had posted reasons is because iDVD cannot handle audio files with deviations from sampling rate of 48k, and somehow the audio files may work if it is converted to aiff , with sampling rate of 48k.I found a way to do it last night.
Export the imovie to GarageBand. When GarageBand finished the video track and sound track imports, adjust the volume of the sound track as desired.
Make sure the GarageBand preference to set export movie in full quality, not ipod or email quality. Then export the movie to disk, and the resulting Quicktime movie must have the original audio tracked enabled before it is used in iDVD. Check the Quicktime movie by quicktime player, and under movie property, you can check that enable box.
The finished product is a Quicktime movie that has both video and audio files that iDVD can handle and use.And it saves time in audio conversion by doing it in GarageBand first.I was unable to export the imovie to quicktime, as the error message came within seconds , saying about something wrong with the file. The only way I could export the file to quicktime format is through GarageBand.
GarageBand is the application to add another sound track , and it preserves the whole imovie and could be exported directly to iDVD, instead of exporting to
Quicktime format first. The only reason I did this "extra" step was because I already knew if the Quicktime movie would not fail in iDVD, and it is quicker to check it this way then to wait 10 hours for iDVD time.
It was already recognized that iMovie does not do audio conversion, and when the audio files are not native to iDVD(i.e. 48 Hz sampling), the iDVD would crash.

How Can i change the Encoding for Mp3 cds???
I am curious on how i can chane the Encoding With on i tunes.....The reason is im heavily into car audio and always like to see the names of the bands and song title come up when i play them in my car. Ive noticed certain bands show up on the screen of my cd player..but others say no artist. Ive Also noticed some have a different encoding such as Lame 3.96....... Does Anyone Know How to Change the Encoding With....Or Make it Show up on my car cd player?
Do you mean you'd rather import using say AAC for instance instead of mp3?
Go to iTunes Preferences (+,)>advanced>importing>import using> change to which ever format you desire.
When you burn the cd, check "include CD text" under the audio section if you're burning an audio CD. -
Audio console crash? Good day, I have a PCI Express X-Fi Titanium and I have been trying to get the Audio console to work. I have tried all of the following versions. It seems to install fine but When I attemp to change setting within it it crashes. My system specs are listed below. Thanks.

Just got the Creative Console Launcher working....
I had both my Creative console Luncher and Creative audio control panel uninstall (not the x-fi dri've cos it was working) reboot, run registry cleaner and reboot, and install the Creative Console Luncher and it working now...
But have not try reinstall the Audio Control panel i think i should work also.

I want to stream a video, but everytime i hit the Start button the FMLE crashes. I cant also see a preview or output picture

I have a Creative Cloud subscription.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program through the Creative Cloud service. No change.Thanks for responding.
Yes, I am trying to utilize Photoshop CS (8.0) and I run Windows 7.1. I installed this from Adobe's Creative Cloud. The program opens, and I am able to open a Photoshop file with it, but then Windows tells me that there is a problem and is shutting down. I'm not sure would the problem might be. -
Audio encoding hang work around
After scouring this discussion and the internet, it seems the following is true:
1) The source of the audio encoding delay is the conversion of the audio to an iDVD friendly format;
2) There is indeed progress being made even though the activity monitor may say not or you may get a not responding message;
3) There are two work arounds that work well, but with a properly debugged iDVD we should not have to do this nonsense. Here's to iLife '07 fixing this mess, hopefully.
So, as to #1, even if you first convert the audio and then lay down the audio to the iMovie project there are still delays, especially with longer movies. It is quite apparent that this is an iDVD bug as other programs convert audio files quickly. (As to camera audion, you have to make sure you are in 16 bit with your camera.)
As to #2, by looking at the package contents (Command I) you can see the progress of the audio encoding even when you think it is hung and even if you get a not responding message. To do this open your local disk, go to documents which is where iDVD puts them, and look for the title of your project, highlight it and hit Command I. Note the bytes, close the info dialog, and then reopen again. You may need to do this a few times depending on RAM, clock speed, etc., but you should see a change in bytes after awhile. If so, there is progress being made, as painstakingly slow as it may be. (A 1h53m movie took about 40 hours on my G5 with 1.5MB RAM! Not acceptable!)
As to #3, the same thing is being accomplished, by different means. In both case you are creating a new file that handles the audio encoding on the way out and then reimporting with audio encoded. In the first, you export to your camera and then turn around and import into a new iMovie project. Add your chapters and then open from iDVD. Save as a disc image and then burn from the Disc Utility application which can be found under Utilities.
The other work around is sharing to Quicktime and then reimporing to iMovie as a new project, and do the same as above. Following the latter, it took me 40 hours plus before took about 5 hours.
I hope this saves you all some time.

Garageband Quits Every Time I Change Audio Input/Output
Hi. I own a Plantronics headset that came with MacSpeech Dictate when I bought that software a few years ago. It shows up on my Mac as a C-Media USB Audio device.
I'm trying to use it with Garageband. So, in Garageband, I've gone into Preferences and the Audio/MIDI section.
When I choose the C-Media USB Audo device as either "Audio Input" or "Audio Output" (I want to use the headset for both), Garageband asks if I want to "Change audio driver" and I then click yes. Then Garageband has a status bar saying "Initializing audio driver." Then, before it finishes initializing, Garageband quits. This happens every single time.
So, I'm not sure what to do. I don't even understand why Garageband is looking for a driver when my headset is a USB device that works with all programs -- it's not a MIDI keyboard.
Sometimes, after I restart Garagband after the quit, I see that it has changed the device. But this happens more frequently for the Audio Output Device. For instance, the C-Media device is now selected for Audio Output. But I keep selecting it for Audio Input as well and Garageband keeps quitting and when I restart it, the Audio Input device hasn't changed and still says Built-in Microphone.
I can't imagine I'm the only one who's had this problem. If anyone knows the solution, I'd appreciate it.

There were no Midi configs in my library, but there's a folder full of them in the main Library. Most of the files in there I don't care about, but there are several that I don't want to lose. Should i trash the folder and then re-install the ones I want? -

I've successfully burned a half dozen iMovie projects with no problems but this time I am having a new problem.
Each time I attempt to burn an iMovie project to iDVD it progresses fine through the various stages, but when it gets near the end to the "Audio Encoding" stage it just sits there and never seems to finish.
I've been seraching through earlier postings but haven't found this specific issue.
Any ideas?
Much obliged.I am also having this problem. iDVD gets to the end of the audio encoding and stops responding. If I leave it for a few hours it does finally finish but there is an error "timed-out" message on the screen. Very annoying. I've read elsewere that the problem may be caused by the latest QuickTime update (7.1.0) which I did install this week. Several threads suggest downgrading QT. I tried it via the suggested links, it mildly crashed the OS. I was able to recover after reinstalling the lastes QT. Coincidentally, I've since read the downgrade does not work with Intel iMacs. Come on Apple, let's get this FIXED.

I see that Encore gives me the opportunity to change my project preferences for audio encoding to one of 4 settings, starting with 9 mbps as the highest, and defaults to 8 mbps. Is it best to set it to 9 for quality unless space is an issue? Or is there another reason for the different settings that I don't understand?

Use the SLOWEST possible burn option your burner will allow in Encore, since it is much better to take a bit more time burning the disc than it is to burn "fast" and have a disc that won't play

I'm having troubles getting passed the "audio encoding
started" in the log when I start streaming. After about 10 seconds
of it staying there, the program crashes. It doesn't happen all the
time. I try to close any program that could be using the audio

Possible to override the remotes "change audio" button?
I'm creating a DVD that has multiple audio tracks for a single video track. I'm also programming in subtitles for the same track(French). The two audio tracks have different versions of dialogue. So, that means that I need two subtitle tracks – one for each audio. I understand how I can use stories and scripts to associate the proper subtitle track with the corresponding audio track,
BUT
my problem is this: it is necessary to allow the user to switch back and forth between the audio tracks whenever they want. So, if a French user is watching with subtitles on, and switches the audio using their remote mid-stream, then I need a way to change the subtitles to match the now-active audio.
The best way I can think of to do this would be to hi-jack the functionality of the "change audio" button on the remote, and make it run a script that changes audio, then checks subtitle settings and changes them as well, if appropriate.
Can this be done in DVDSP? I've found promising entries in the advanced connections display, but they don't respond to my initial attempts.

Well. I noticed there were several other programs mentioned in that thread, which I'm going to look up now, but it seems that this is a "supported by DVD players" problem rather than a "my program can't do that" problem.
Something occurs to me. Is this a problem that could be circumvented by going to Blu-ray? DVD SP has a lot of buzz about supporting Blu-ray projects, would Blu-ray players be more likely to support this remote-based scripting???

How to change page setup using airprint in iPhone 4 iOS5?
How can I get to a page setup in airpint before printing? I've tried printing from my photos and it prints full page (letter size)... Is there a way to print preview or choose a size before printing? Thanks much!!
