Changing bios to read usb on startup

Re: pavilion notebook dm 1 -4010us. My password no longer logs me into Windows 7 Home edition. I need to restore the password via usb. How can I change the bios to read the usb on startup? I already downloaded the password recovery program on a usb 16g.  None of the F keys will give the option I need.

Hi, also remember not all BIOS's support USB boot options feature.
I believe that you are thinking about older notebooks. (i.e.  Windows XP generation lower end notebooks) Notebooks that arrived with Windows 7 and newer operating systems have that feature in BIOS.

It can read my USB Keyboard but doesnt read USB Flash Drive.  I Have no Internet On The Computer, So that means i cant update my drivers. Hi: Looking at your other posts it appears you have painted yourself into a corner. Since there is no legacy or auto USB setting in the BIOS, your only option would be to remove the hard drive, put it in a USB to sata notebook hard drive enclosure, plug it into another PC so it can be read, download the applicable drivers you need and copy them to you user profile on the removed hard drive. The service manual, chapter 5 provides the removal and replacement procedures for the hard drive. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03733656 Reinstall the hard drive, run the drivers, and you should be good to go. These would be the drivers you need for your model... SM bus controller:  Install this first and reboot. http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=cp_127691_1 USB3:  Install both of these and reboot. http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=6943835&swItemId=ob_139250_1&swEnvOid=4058 http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=6943835&swItemId=ob_133037_1&swEnvOid=4058

  • Change bios seting in dv6

    hi
how can i change bios setin in dv6 6070?
i want install windows server 2008 r2 64 bit in vmware , but has on eror "enable bios vt option".
what is it and where is it ?
    tnx

Hi ofr, welcome to the HP Forums. The 'vt' from your error message, is the Intel Virtualization Technology. Simply put, it is technology that improves performance over software based virtualization, and a requirement for Windows Server 2008 R2. Here is a more elaborate description from the source:  Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Technology
To see if the option is available, you will need to enter your BIOS. Turn on or restart the computer.
While the display is blank, press the f10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.
Here is an article that will show you what it MIGHT look like: How to Enable Intel Virtualization Technology (vt-x)
    I hope this helps.

  • Changing permissions on external usb hard drive

This is similar to the other thread about USB hard drive permissions, but I didn't want to hijack.
I just got the USB drive working, as root I can read and write to it.
As user it still automounts, but I don't have read write permissions. Here's some output:
    [ali@misbarch ~]$ cd /media/disk
    [ali@misbarch disk]$ ls -l
    total 16
    drwx------ 2 root root 16384 2008-05-08 01:14 lost+found
The permissions tab in properties of /disk show:
    Owner: root (root)
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: root
    Access: Read only
    Others: Read only
So I want to change "Others" to read and write also. I'm not very good with the chmod numbers, I've read the man page, but is that how I would do this? Would a simple
    chmod 777 -R /media/disk
be advisable? Or is that just a bad work around and not the proper solution?
Once I got it readable, I copied the info off it as root, and I unmounted it, deleted the partition, created the partition, made an ext3 file system, all as root. Does that have anything to do with it?

There is a slightly better solution: change the group of /media/disk to storage, change permissions to 775 and add users that need to be able to write to disk to the storage group (you need to log out and log in that users before changes are visible).
    So, as root:
    # chgrp storage /media/disk
    # chmod 775 /media/disk
    # gpasswd -a user_name storage
This way everyone will be able to read the disk, but only root and users in storage group will be able to write to it. Still, if you want everyone to be able to read/write, chmod 777 is a good solution.
Nice solution, thanks, I'm already added to the group storage, but media/disk wasn't part of storage, it was part of root! Thanks for the solution and suggestions.

  • Changing BIOS settings?

About a month ago I picked this motherboard up, and I usually format after I get new hardware. Since this new motherboard apparently doesn't let me change them, and WinXP doesn't have DOS, how do I change my BIOS settings so I can format?

I'm sorry.. You've totally lost me.
    ...you can't get into BIOS?
...or you can't boot to a Windows CD?
...or are you talking about BIOS update protection?
    I'm confused.
me_AMD is right, though... if you want to change BIOS settings just press DELETE on your keyboard, whether PS/2 or USB makes no difference. Press it as soon as the video card bios disappears and the system posts.

  • BIOS doesnt recognize SATA connected Hard Drive- need help flashing bios from bootable USB

    hi
I have an envy laptop running InsydeH20 bios rev f14.
the bios doesn't recognize the internally connected hdd/ssd.
I have heard that with insyde bios', sometimes you have to unlock 'secret capabilities' to recognize hardware incl internal hdd.
but I am just trying to reflash my bios.
the problem is that I cant get into windows because it doesn't recognize my hard drive and windows doesn't allow insallation to usb connected drives.
I downloaded the patch from hp.com for my product and it actually has an option for making a bootable USB for use on the actual system, and I did this. the instructions are to just restart my computer with the bootable usb. I have tried Legacy support on and off, neither updates bios.
I highly doubt it has anything to do with the physical sata connector.
basically I need to flash my bios from bootable usb. I have done some research about making a bootable dos usb etc etc but I don't know what program to even run and how..

cannot run on my laptop. tried booting from the media. tried allowing 'legacy' compatibility.

  • 2007 MBP, broken superdrive, can't read USB : Installing Mavericks

    Hello,
I need to install fresh OSX Mavericks on a new and bigger harddrive on  my late 2007 MBP (broken superdrive, and inability to read/boot from USB  on startup.) I've tried cloning the previous harddrive using Disk  Utility but it just simply doesn't work, because of the "hidden" Recovery Partition that Mavericks incorporates. Both my iMac and MBP has been running Mavericks flawlessly and I have the installation .dmg as backup.
    - Now, is it possible to fresh install (bootable) Mavericks using my iMac to a new 2.5 harddrive using USB? (yes, I have all the tools, SATA to USB, etc)
    - Does it matter if I'm installing the OS using iMac and put it on MBP later on?
    - Will Carbon Copy Cloner work on Mavericks (regarding the hidden recovery partition)
And of course please let me know if there's any simpler workaround,
    Thanks.

  • Precautions to be taken while changing the Query read mode in PED system

    Dear Experts,
I got a task to change the Query Read mode for more No. of queries in Production system directly itself.
Request you to let me what are the steps to be followed/precautions to be taken while changing the Query Read mode in PED.
one more doubt regarding this.....If i plan to change the Read mode of Query say Q1, how can i come to know weather the Q1 is executing or not executing by that time.
Thanks in advance for valuable response.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hello,
You can change the query read mode in transaction 'RSRT', here are the steps:
    1) Access transaction RSRT and enter the query name
    2) Select the 'Properties' option
    3) Un-check the 'Info provider' setting next to the 'Read mode' --> This enables you to change the read mode of the query --> Execute
    4) Choose the option 'Generate Report' to re-generate the query program
    Hope this info helps.
    Thanks

  • Signature verification changes in Adobe Reader 9

[ I posted this message in the "Adobe Reader" forum, but I have realized that the post that I reference in my message belongs to this "Acrobat SDK" forum. So I've decided to send my post here, although this is not an Acrobat SDK question. Excuse me if you thing that my question should not be in this forum. ]
    Hi all,
I have found this post in this forum talking about changes in Adobe Reader 9 related to signature verification:
        http://forums.adobe.com/message/2439480#2439480
    I have another scenario:
    A PDF with two signatures.
After the first signature, a new page was added and then the PDF was signed again (using signature appearance).
Using Adobe Reader 8.1.5, the result of signature verification is successful for both signatures.
In fact, the byte range of the first signature is intact after adding the second signature.
But if I open it with Adobe Reader 9.2.0, the verification result is invalid signature (for the first signature): the document has been modified and there is a new page.
Since it seems that Adobe Reader 9 has added some new checks when verifying signatures, does anybody know (or know where can it be found) the list of new signature verification requirements of Adobe Reader 9 ?
Or the list of changes allowed in Adobe Reader 9 that do not invalidate signatures ?
Maybe a list similar to the changes allowed in the three types of certified signatures (TransformParams)?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Thanks, lrosenth.
The document I was searching for is in Adobe site and is called "Adobe Acrobat 9 Digital Signatures, Changes and Improvements".

  • How to transport the changes of lsmw "Read display Program" changes to prod

    Hi,
i have made some changes in the SAP generated program /1CADMC/SAP_LSMW_READ_<>.
i.e., in step : Read display program
the issue is that i made changes...but the changes are stored in $tmp.
now how to move these changes to Production.
when i assign to any package it is showing an error saying
"/1CADMC/SAP_LSMW_READ_<>cannot be assign to package.move to package starting with "/1CADMC/".
    Thanks.
    Kumar.

    HI,
LSMW cannot be transported from one client to another.
You will have to do IMPORT EXPORT.
    Run transaction LSMW:-
Give the Project, Subproject and Object.
From Menu go to Extras->Export Project.
    Specify the project name
By default everything in the project will be selected.
If you want to transfer only a single subobject of the whole project then first deselect everything.
Deselection can be done by clicking on the description besides then project name.
After that just select the individual object.
    Then press the export button.
It will prompt you to save the lsmw in your local machine.
    Save it.
Similarly Import it to the production system.
Please note that your changes in the read program will not be copied via import export.
You will again have to make it in the production system.
Changing the read program is not advisable as the changes will be lost if someone once again regenerates the progrsm.

  • SQL execution does not change, but consistent read get higher

    Hi,
Our SQL query execution does not change, but consistent reads get higher in our test enviroment but query looks fine in our development and production environments.
In the Development instance the trace is:
    STAT #18446744071526492680 id=1 cnt=1 pid=0 pos=1 obj=7151 op='TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID MEMBER_CMS_SITE_ACCESS (cr=4 pr=0 pw=0 time=153 us cost=3 size=68 card=1)'
    STAT #18446744071526492680 id=2 cnt=1 pid=1 pos=1 obj=7152 op='INDEX UNIQUE SCAN MEMBER_SITE__MEMBERID_SITEID (cr=3 pr=0 pw=0 time=104 us cost=2 size=0 card=1)'
So - we read 3 blocks from the index and then 1 from the table ( to make 4)
In the Test instance the trace is:
    STAT #18446744071411593144 id=1 cnt=1 pid=0 pos=1 obj=7151 op='TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID MEMBER_CMS_SITE_ACCESS (cr=112 pr=0 pw=0 time=2820 us cost=3 size=70 card=1)'
    STAT #18446744071411593144 id=2 cnt=1 pid=1 pos=1 obj=7152 op='INDEX UNIQUE SCAN MEMBER_SITE__MEMBERID_SITEID (cr=3 pr=0 pw=0 time=90 us cost=2 size=0 card=1)'
We read 3 blocks from the index but the table needs 109 more which cannot possibly be right.
It looks like we are applying UNDO and those 109 are the work needed to do so.
I have tried flushing the shared pool, and killing some sessions that could possibly be the cause... but with nothing in V$TRANSACTION
I could understand this if there was a long-running transaction that's created a lot of dirty blocks, but there are no transactions at all... so it's not that.
    Thanks

The SQL is very simple with only one predication in the where cluse and that is indexed, just like
"select * from table where a=:b0"
Column a is indexed. But ORACLE choose FTS not INDEX SCAN because of out-of-date stats maybe.
So I updated the stats expecting to see ORACLE will choose INDEX SCAN. The fact is that ORACLE will not change existing FTS to INDEX until I flush the entire share pool. That's the problem.

  • Reading USB joystick data directly from the USB port

I have made a program to read USB joystick data in Labview using the "initialize joystick vi" and "acquire input data vi". I noticed that these vi's use the data from windows XP. The joystick calibrating function of windows can influence the data that Labview shows. For instance: axis 1 uncalibrated data(before calibration in windows) 3901 to 32767. After calibration in windows Labview shows me data on the same axis ranging from -32767 to 32767.
Is it possible to read the data from the joystick before windows "messess" it up?

USB protocols are a messy black hole.  The way each USB item communicates to the operating system is dependant on the products manufacturer.  I think that is why there are no USB functions built into LabVIEW.  Perhaps there is some way to force a calibration at the beginning of your code so that the data is consistent on each execution???
Also, if I remember right, there were some recent posts concerning reading a USB mouse that you could search for to get some ideas.
Good luck and please post a follow-up if you come up with a good solution.
