Changing bit rate from 128 to 192

I'm getting shure e4 headphones and want to experience the full potential of its sound, so i want to change the bit rate from standard 128 to 192. Can anyone give me directions on how to do this? also can you adjust bit rate to higher than 192?

You don't say which file format you are using but regardless, this is how to change your Import settings. Open iTunes go to iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing. Once there, from the "Import Using" menu pick the encoder you want to use and below that from "Setting" choose "Custom" and in the box that appears choose the bit rate you want. Both MP3 and AAC formats will let you choose up to a bit rate of 320 kbps

  • Can no longer change bit rate in AAC custom import settings

I've been re-ripping all my CDs at the new higher bit rate. My import settings were AAC Encoder -- custom, originally set to 256 kbps, VBR, and auto for the other two settings. However, some CDs I wanted at a lower setting, so I would go change the bit rate to either 192 or 224 (just so I'd have more room on my ipod) and there wouldn't be a problem. But now it's stuck -- the pop-up box no longer opens when I choose import settings, AAC Encoder, Custom, so I can't change the bit rate or anything else, and it's stuck on 224 kbps. I can still change bit rate and other settings in the custom menus for MP3, WAV, etc., just not AAC. A repair install of iTunes did not fix the problem.

Hi, Ed. I am running iTunes 9.0.3.15. When I click custom, the settings description in the details box display what they were before this thing happened = 112 kbps (mono)/224 kbps (stereo), VBR, optimized for MMX/SSE2. The pop-up dialogue box that used to appear (where you could choose the specific bit rate from the drop down menu) does not appear at all.
However, when I choose anything other than AAC Encoder, and then pick custom, the pop-up box appears and I can choose the bit rate and adjust the other settings as usual. It's just not happening for AAC Encoder anymore. Since the total un-install (following Apple's specified order) and reinstall didn't work, I'm baffled how to fix this .... (If it makes a difference, I changed the bit rate in the custom box while a CD was being burned...Apparently that was stupid, but I had done it previously without incident.) Thanks.

I want to change personal settings of AAC, but I can't. Still only the last setting, that was 192 Kbps Stereo. My iTunes version is 10.7

  • My iPod Nano 6th Gen, Crashes whilst performing "Convert Higher Bit Rate to 128 AAC" in iTunes.

    Hi Guys,
    I have a 6 week old iPod Nano 16Gb.
I have about 2500 songs, which would be coming up to 18Gb, so instead of selecting which albums I want, I've taken the lazy approach and ticked the "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 AAC".
As you all know, it does the coversion on the fly, roughly about 8 sec on average per song. Being a slow Core Duo T2500, it takes its time and I have to leave it over night whilst it does it.
Come back in the morning and the watch had the 'White Screen of Death', displaying on the screen like the Apple IIe days of "OK to disconnect"
Then it goes blank and then it says iTunes (picture of a plug), under that, connect to restore.
Plug it into iTunes and it does a full restore with nothing in it.
I hope I explained it ok.
Im kinda think its not the Nano, as I've filled it up with music and photos to its capacity and works fine.
Would it be something to do with "Enable disk use", to stop it from connecting and disconnecting after syncing?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks Guys.

I have the same problem and can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I rebuilt my iTunes library and still my 6G nano crahes whenever I load an AAC tune onto it.  MP3s and podcasts all work fine, it's just the AACs...
Just *loading* an AAC song will cause the Nano 6G to reboot as soon as it disconnects from Itunes. It will then reboot a few times and then go into recovery mode. :-(

  • How change bit rate

I use Compressor to compress video from FCP. I select dvd best 90 min 4.3 (mpeg-2, two pass VCR best average 5.0 mbps - maximum bit rate 5.8 mbps). After compressing, file show 6.2mpbs. I want to reduce file size. I could not figure out how to reduce even I reduce more on average bit rate and maximum. Is there other place I might oversee. Compressor, I still learn how to use.

You'll find this tutorial very useful: Building Custom Presets in Compressor 2 , no matter you run version 2 or 3.

  • Show and Share "Record a video" change bit rate?

In  Show and Share's user guide it states that when using the "Record a video" in SnS  it defaults to 400bit rate at 320x240.  Is there a way to change this?

    Hello Tom

  • Changing bit rate recording options...

I have a soundcard that can record 24bit, but when I open a new single track project it defaults to 16bit. I'm able to change the sample rate of the project but can't figure out how to change the bitrate. I've been all over the application and the manual. Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks!

Altough I'm not 100% sure, here's what I suspect: Your soundcard is not recognized directly by CoreAudio, you use a driver and Core Audio is talking to the driver and not to the soundcard. Since Core Audio is talking to your driver, what it sees is a 32-bits device (almost every audio software is 32-bits floating these days) and not a 24-bits hardware device. Soundtrack Pro then set itself to 16-bits files because it doesn't see a 24-bits device. I use a Focusrite Saffire and since it use the CoreAudio driver, it appears as a 24-bits device so I'm able to record 24-bits files.
Now, the real question: Why Apple forces us to use their ****** AMS control panel for Soundtrack Pro instead of having audio preferences like every other DAW in the world, including their own Logic? Having access to the bit rate, the device utilized and the buffer size in a preferences window is a necessary basic thing!

  • Change Bit Rate

Is that a way to change the bit rate? I can see how high my bit rate is under info. I downloaded a program to change it but I doesnt work for songs that I burned or brought using itunes. I would like the make my music's bit rate higher.

I would like the make my music's bit rate higher.
You could convert the file to a higher rate but it wouldn't accomplish anything other than to increase the size of the file, i.e. it would not improve the audio fidelity of the music.
There being no way to add music data to a "lossy format" file (.mp3, .m4a, .m4p or what have you), you either have to purchase higher quality files (iTunes Plus or other internet services) or change your Import settings in iTunes to a higher bit rate.

  • Changing bit rate, etc. on songs already in iTunes library

I've done this many times before, but I keep forgetting how, and I haven't found the HELP menu to be of help. Anyway, I have a recording that Id like to share, but its file is too large, so I have to reduce it by decreasing the bit rate. How do I do this?

  • Question about changing frame rate from PAL to NTSC

    Hi,
Usually, I would use JES Deinterlacer for changing the 25 fps of PAL into 29.97 NTSC.
Recently I've started shooting with Sony's EX-3, full HD (in PAL mode)
If I'm using JES Deinterlacer, the resolution would drop from 1920x1080 to 720x480 (adding 2 black rectangles to keep the 16:9 ratio)
With the 720x480 res I would need to choose 4:3 aspect in iDVD.
I'm somewhat confused here...Can I keep the original resolution of 1920x1080 and just use another software for changing the frame rate...then burn it with iDVD in widescreen 16:9? Is there anything like JES for that? Or does NTSC DVD means always 720x480?
    Thanks a lot!

You could try doing it in compressor>advanced format conversions. Personally I like taking it to a terranex, but I also have had GREAT success with Graeme Nattress's standards converter. You can google it, or search this forum for a link. It's cheap, only a hundred bucks or so.
    1. Convert the footage pal to ntsc, no frame size change
    2. Open compressor and select the appropriate setting for the length of your video. And also add the dolby audio setting. Don't forget the anamorphic settings noted above.
    3. I don't remember anything at all about idvd, haven't used it since DVDSP came out. DVDSP allows you a whole host of display parameters and infinite customization for your projects. It'll only take you a couple of hours to figure it out, and those are hours well spent.

  • Change frame rate from 23.976 to 24

    Hi all,
I have a Quicktime render of a project I made a few months ago that was originally created at 23.976 FPS.
I now need to prepare this Quicktime render for digital projection in a movie theater -- the file I need to give my client has to be 24 FPS progressive.
I'd like to try and convert my Quicktime and audio without going back to the project itself, as this is a complex project and would take a really long time to re-render at 24 FPS.
Can anyone recommend the best method to convert my 23.976 Quicktime movie? Are there specialty plug-ins I should look into?
    Thanks so much!
    Dan

Digital projectors will pretty much playback what is sent to them. The pitch change and motion difference between 23.976 and 24 is undetectable as far as audio goes and a frame is a frame.
If it really must be 24, and I'd check the specs carefully for the theater because the standard in the us is 23.976, then you could convert it with QuickTime Pro, Adobe Media Encoder, or any other encoding software.
If your original is highly compressed h.264 or other MPEG stream I would suggest re-rendering the project in AE. There will be a significant quality loss if you recompress an MPEG stream.
To change the project in AE from 23.976 to 24 and maintain frame accurate sync all you have to do is change the comp settings and change the interpretation of the footage from 23.976 to 24. If you are using a separate audio track and the project is more than 10 minutes long you may have other audio issues but under 10 minutes there's not going to be much of an audio sync problem. If the audio is in a video track then there is usually no problem and the pitch change is insignificant. There usually is no need to adjust any of the keyframes.

  • Download Bit Rate

Is it possible to increase the download bit rate from 128 to 196 kbps when buying songs from Itunes? I like the sound quality of the higher bit rate? I've looked through the preferences and don't see that option. Any way of changing it? Thanks in advance.
    Dell   Windows XP

Sorry, no. The import preferences in iTunes only affects the your own CD's that you import. The store sells music in protected AAC format @ 128, that is ALL they sell.

  • 128 bit rate AAC?

Is this the normal audio quality (128 bit rate AAC)for purchased music from iTunes store? I thought it was higher than this...? Thanks in advance for the info.

I hear apple is going to start delivering tracks in a higher bit rate. 128 is ok, but it is not good enough for critical listening.

  • Best Bit Rate for Better sound

I’m new to the iTunes/iPod thing. A friend told me that he re-sets the bit rate from the default of 128 kpbs to the top of 320 kbps for better quality. [He plays everything off of his computer which is wired to speakers throughout his house and does not travel or drive much so hardly uses his iPod.] I played around a tad with the various rates on the same album and found that a fairly short one used 34.9 MB at 128 kbps, 52.1 MB at 192 kbps, 60.8 MB at 224 kbps and 86.6 MB at 340 kbps. Another friend told me that he noticed a big difference when he played a song off his iPod through his several thousand dollar system if it was imported at 128 kbps. While hard disc space is cheap and I would simply opt for the higher quality setting, the iPods are not so big when one almost triples the file size.
I tried to figure out what the max bit rates in the CDs are so that could guide the max import rate, but I could not and that question may make no sense at all anyway.
What is the max that a human can notice the difference at and what have folks found to be the best balance between sound quality and storage space?
    Thanks for your help.

Monty, this is really going to be up to your ears to decide. All I can tell you is my experience during the 2+ years of owning an iPod. I initially thought AAC @ 128 was satisfactory. I then started experimenting with various bitrates, but kept the AAC format. I decided that 192 was a discernible improvement over the 128. Not to go into a lot of detail, but I, quite by accident, had one album download at 256 & thought, "Wow, this is unbelievably better sound, even over inexpensive computer speakers." At that point, I started importing everything in AAC @ 256 VBR which I feel is pretty darn close to CD quality sound. I have a 60GB iPod that I'm willing to sacrifice some capacity in order to ensure the best audio quality I can. This is also why I do not buy frequently from the iTunes store as I do not feel the 128 downloads are the best quality. I buy & my own CD's, now, to insure good quality. I will by the occasional song from the store when I do not care to buy the whole CD. Hope this helps!
