Changing Bitrates and stuff

Hi there,
Im about to burn a new DVD this weekend which consists of 1 hour of main feature and approx 45 extras yet Encore left on automatic is giving me quite low bit-rates like 2.2 for all the extras whilst the main features are on 7.5 - I have used a bitrate calculator and it recommends a bitrate of 7 yet I can only pick 7.5 within Encore.
Is a bitrate of 2.2 going to be of really poor quality if I leave it in this state? I thought you could fit nearly 2 hours of very high quality on a DVD 5?
Not sure if this matters but when exporting the movie from Premier Pro does the file size increase if you are using more video tracks, i.e. my co-editor is a messy editor and has up to 9 or 10 video tracks layering video etc - does this affect the file size compared to have it on one or two video tracks??

You should be able to set the required bitrates with no problem.
However, as long as you remembered to leave in the overhead in your bitrate calculations, there is no good reason why you shouldn't run the MPEG-2 exports directly out from Premiere Pro.
Set the Audio to Dolby Digital (if the SurCode plugin is activated/purchased) or else set to PCM 16/48 & let Encore handle the audio.
A bitrate of 2.2 is going to be unacceptable, and does not sound right to me. In all honesty, anything below 4.4 is going to be bad, 4.5 is borderline.
I would also definitely consider the option of going to a Dual Layer disc as well. Run one set of encoding for a single layer, and see how it all looks. Using Dual Layer will mean you can encode all video files to 7Mb/sec if going to written media, or 9Mb/sec if going to replication with stereo audio.
Multiple Video layers in Premiere will not add to the file size at all - premiere will render these down into one file. The uppermost layers are the ones that will be output in stacked clips.

There should be no need to zero the hard drive.
Using the Restore discs that came with the iBook when it was new, restore the system software using the appropriate instructions which you can find through a link contained in this Apple Knowledge Base article:

While not in the tutorial, I have found several other things necessary to get the look and feel change to be complete. Here is the code I'm using after I set the look and feel. It seems to do a pretty good job of sync'ing everything together.

NetBeans: Dinamically changing Look and Feel Problem

Hi there, Java lovers.
I need some help here!
I love java, and I used to program my graphical user interfaces by hand. In my applications, there is a dropdown for the user to chose the desired look and feel. Then I save the selected option to a file and on the startup I do something like this:
UIManager.setLookAndFeel(savedUserSelectedLookAndFeel);That always worked really fine. The look and feel would change and everything worked really well.
However, programing GUI by hand is really a PITA. So I was seduced by Netbeans. I am using Netbeans 6.0 on Windows XP, and I designed the GUIs really fast now.
The problem is, the system look and feel works really well, but when I change the look and feel of my application to a different one (Java/Motif/etc..) the look and feel changes but the components positions and sizes becomes all messed up. It really becomes impossible to work with a different look and feel because some components are outside of frames.
I believe the cause of this is because Netbeans generates the code automatically using Grids and stuff like that, and by doing so, the change of the look and feel becomes messed up. This is a thing that would not happen with my manually created code.
This is really troubling me. Does someone has the same problem. Is there something I can do? Or do I need to create my GUIs by hand like before?

Making best use of space for quality by balancing video bitrate and audio settings?

I have a couple of questions regarding exporting from premiere to encore/encoding in encore. I am trying to create a single-layer dvd where I maximize overall quality by using as much of the disk space as possible. The video is 97 minutes, SD 720x480, 29.97fps, and consists of mostly interviews, as well as b-roll from hd cameras and stills, only a few title card graphics.
1. I can use dynamic link to send the sequence which appears to maximize the available space, however I have heard that using DL is generally frowned upon and I myself cannot tell what settings it is using (i.e. vbr, 2-pass, etc.). Is my interpretation that DL is not the ideal way to go incorrect? If DL is just as good as a separate output, is there a way to find out what settings it is using?
2. I have used a bitrate calculator and tried a Min: 3.5 Target: 5.5 Max: 8 output with PCM audio and I wound up having a little over 400mb of unused space. When someone recommended a Min: 5.5 Target: 7 Max 8.5 output the file size was too large with a single-layer DVD. I read that it is recommended that you use a Dolby audio output instead of PCM if the video is over an hour. My question is is there a best practice for balancing audio and video bitrates and data requirements? I understand that obviously using more data PCM is "better" but is it generally better to go the dolby route and have more free space to increase your video bitrate? Is this the type of audio difference that requires a high-end system to discern? Is the loss in audio data worth it for the benefit of greater video bitrate?
I know its a lot, just trying to maximize the space to get the best overall output possible. Thanks for any help/advice you can provide.

As most of my videos are closer to 2 hours usually, I have always used Dolby Digital, since PCM takes up so much space and I'd rather use that space to increase the video quality.
Note that by default, if you bring a .wav file (PCM) into Encore, it automatically transcodes that to Dolby, unless you had specifically changed the default transcode settings in Encore.
A decent rule of thumb for encoding is 560/minutes = bitrate, so 560/97 = 5.77 and I usually just round down a bit to allow for safety margin and menu overhead. This assumes using Dolby at 192k, so I would use 5.6 average bitrate.

Yo man :-),
          the only way to change the url is to send a redirect to the browser. How
          should the browser know of your dispatches otherwise? Why do you want to
          change the url? Usually the last point of your chain won't be able to
          deliver the same results if you directly point to that URL.
          Consider e.g.:
          Controllerservlet (mapped to index.html, reads URL parameters e.g
          |
          |
          Dispatch 1 (does some stuff, e.g. calculations etc.)
          |
          |
          Dispatch 2 (produces what is finally sent to the browser)
          If you'd change the URL to Dispatch 2 a refresh would not again run the
          whole chain of dispatches, so how would that help??

Changing Bitrates

Hello all,
Does anyone know if it's possible to convert an mp3 file to a lower bitrate and overwrite the original file?
I know that you can convert from within iTunes, but this makes a copy of the file.
My problem is that I need to save some disc space and I have a lot of stuff at 320kbps and I would like to reduce them all to 192kbps without having to redo all of my playlists with the new copies.

When converting files select the files to be converted, and keep them selected. Once they are converted the new files should appear unselected. You can then delete the old files.
You could also use the 'date modified' column to keep track of which files are the older and newer files.
This info may not be on time but can hopefully help the next time.

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much. Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it. I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names. isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)

If i change header and footer in one jsp page it show reflect the changes in all jsps can any one help me .

e reflected with the changesyes, my previous reply does the same way you want.
You have to include (use include directive) your header & footer jsp file in other jsp pages where you wanted them. And once you do any change in header & footer jsp it will automatically effect other jsp.
