Changing brush size in camera raw?

I'm having trouble with changing brush size in the camera raw brush tools.
What I use for input is a scandinavian keyboard and I have to type in alt gr+8 and alt gr+9 instead of brackets.
This works great in Photoshop,  but sadly not in Camera Raw.
Is anyone able to help me?

That works well, thanks for this.
Any idea why the brush sizing feature is not similar to Lightroom where you can simply scroll vertically on the Magic Mouse?
Cheers,

  • Mouse Wheel Scroll - Change Brush Size

    Hi
I use the "Liquify" filter a lot, and I've always wanted to be have the mouse wheel adjust brush size.
(I'm not that keen on using the left-right bracket to adjust brush size.)
    Thanks.

I'm not sure, but with the OpenGL features enabled you can use a couple of combinatorial gestures to change brush size, and it gives you very fine control:
Hold down the Alt key and click the right mouse button down on your image.  While holding it down, if you drag the mouse left, your brush will get smaller, and if you drag right it will get larger.  Drag it up to make it softer, down to make it harder.

  • How can I set the CS5 to Intuos Pro Large for changing brush size and opacity and others?

How can I set together  to  my PS5 or Ps6 in order to change brush size and opacity at the Intuos Pro Large?

The MTU setting on the interface is the layer 3 packet size. In this case, the MTU is set to 1500, but the largest frame size transmitted on the interface (including layer 2 headers) is 1516. It sounds like you are experiencing another problem at the LES.

  • Change brush  sizes using [  ] too slow

I've recently swapped from Windows to Mac and I'm glad to be on Mac now. But whenever I'm changing brush sizes using the bracket keys the response time is way to slow.. I search the forum but found nothing on this. anyone have a fix for this..
Running Leopard with OS 10.5.4 three internal harddrives and 10 gigs ram.
All updates and patches were installed prior to photoshop.
    Machine is one week old.

I completely remove Photoshop and did a clean install. Before changing anything I opened an image and tried increasing and decreasing my brush size using the bracket keys and everything was fine. The brush changes as soon as you hit the bracket key.
But as soon as you highlight the info palette top right corner and make it active then come back over the picture and try changing the brush size I'm getting a one second delay. If I hit the bracket key three times quickly the brush completely disapears and then reapears at the appropriate size.
This is a clean install with no plugins, no new fonts, no new nothing.
I then downloaded the latest upgrades.. Reset disk permission, ran the chron scripts and I'm getting the exact same reaction from photoshop when attempting to change brush size with the bracket keys.
Can anybody else reproduce this buy highlighting the info palette??
I called a buddy who also recently purchased a new Mac Pro and his machine is doing the exact same thing.

  • Changes I make in camera raw do not show up or update in bridge.

    Greetings.
    I’m working in PS CS4 in XP(government).
Changes I make in camera raw do not show up or update in bridge.
These images DO process with the changes when I run my actions.
For example: Open images in bridge. Edit. Open reaming images in camera raw. Push the images two stops in camera raw. Close camera raw. Images in bridge show no change. Run action to turn raw files into psd. Final PSD appear pushed two stops.
    Purging Cache make no difference.
    Thoughts?

You are using Embedded thumbnails.  These are small and fast, but do not show raw edits.
You need to use one of the HQ thumb options to see the edits.

  • Change preview frame in camera raw?

I'm doing some VFX in After Effects using raw footage from a Blackmagic.  When I open Camera raw to grade the footage a bit I can't seem to find a way to change the frame that Camera raw chooses for me to grade.  Is there a way to choose say frame 10 instead of the very first frame?  In my case there is a bridge obstructing my view for the first few seconds of a shot.
I guess I can guess and grade and take a look at the later half of the clip, but is there a way around this?
    Thanks
    Nick

Look at the bottom right of the Image Window
The "Y" splits the screen into before/after panes. The one next to it with the two arrows acts like the old fashioned Preview and uses the "p" keyboard shortcut.

  • Lightroom adjustment brush inconsistent with Camera Raw

I love Lightroom's adjustment brushes, but I find it annoying that I can't use them to take saturation all the way to monochrome, even with the saturation slider turned down all the way. Today, I noticed that in Camera Raw 5.4, the same thing is NOT true - you can remove color completely with an adjustment brush.
Surprised at this difference, I wondered what would happen when I loaded the ACR-adjusted file back into Lightroom. Lo and behold, Lightroom showed the result of the adjustment brush the same way as ACR, with all color removed. Excellent!
But what would happen if I changed that adjustment brush in Lightroom? Would it "forget" what I had done in ACR and revert to its normal behavior? No, it continued to behave just as it had in ACR. But in the same photo, a brush created in Lightroom did not behave the same way. So clearly, it was something to do with which program created the brush.
Then I took a look at my XMP file, and it became (somewhat) clear what's going on. This is one of the XMP attributes for the brush created in ACR:
         <crs:MaskValue>1.000000</crs:MaskValue>
And here's the same attribute for the brush created in Lightroom:
         <crs:MaskValue>0.375000</crs:MaskValue>
The obvious next question is, what happens if you change MaskValue from 0.375000 to 1.000000? Answer: The brush  starts behaving like an ACR brush.
Now, this is kind of cool. I can get the behavior I want in Lightroom, by editing the XMP file by hand. On the other hand, editing XMP files isn't really my favorite thing. Is there some setting in Lightroom that can be used to achieve a MaskValue of 1.000000 for adjustment brushes? I couldn't find one, but hey, there are a lot of settings...

Ian, thank you! It was indeed Density that did the trick. I mistakenly thought Density had nothing to do with it, because you have to set it before you create a new brush stroke. (Each individual stroke of a particular adjustment brush can have a different Density value, along with the other Brush attributes like Size.) So I was changing it for my existing brush strokes, foolishly expecting it to work like the Effect sliders, and seeing no effect.
Jao, my flow was set to 100 all along, so I don't think that was my problem. It really seems to have been Density.

  • Exported JPGs in 2.7 are 3x size of Camera Raw

I have a Canon 5DMarkII and I noticed that the exported jpgs from full size RAW files are 17-25 MB whereas the same file in Camera Raw saves as about a 6-7 MB file. I have the LR export set to export JPG files with sRGB color space. When I take a jpg straight from the camera it's only 6-7 MB. Does anyone know what my problem is? Thanks.

No image resize. .... Sharpen STD for screen.
If you don't resize, you probably shouldn't use output sharpening. The screen sharpen is mostly to counteract the softening effect of downsizing your image. Apart from that, at full size, it will likely mostly emphasize noise and therefore increase your filesize. Just optimize the capture sharpening in Develop (make sure to optimize the masking parameter, which will cut down in noise in areas such as skies)  so that your image looks good at 1:1 and then don't apply extra sharpening in the export. At ISO 400, you also might want to add a touch of noise reduction. With the switch from 2.6 to 2.7, the demosaic algorithm changed and now includes less noise reduction in the demosaic stage, so in 2.7 most images are going to show a little more noise with the default settings. Jpeg compression efficiency is very sensitive to noise and often you can correlate the filesize directly with the amount of noise in the image for equal quality settings.

  • No Adjustment Brush Tool in Camera Raw 5.2

Hi, I'm new here. After watching a Gavin Hoey tutorial on HDR editing, I decided to give it a try. My pc came with PSE 7.0 pre-installed (it's version 7.0.1 and the camera raw is version 5.2.0.65) When I drag a RAW image into the edit window of PSE, it opens in a camera raw 5.2 window. On the Hoey tutorial, the window has an adjustment brush in the top toolbar, but on mine, there is no such tool. Is this normal, or can I download an update to fix this? I'm guessing PSE is a "diluted" version of PSand that's why the adjustment brush is missing.

The tutorial was undoubtedly using Camera Raw hosted by the full version of Photoshop.
Camera Raw in Photoshop Elements is emasculated by design, even though the Camera Raw plug-in is exactly the same one used by the full version of Photoshop.  There's only a limited subset of the features and tabs offered by Camera Raw when hosted by Elements.
I don't remember at what stage the Adjustment Tool was added, so you should try updating Camera Raw at least to version 5.7, or higher if your version of Elements supports a higher version.
In my opinion, Photoshop Elements is overpriced by about $80.

Why is it so difficult to convert a Raw image to a jpeg in Photoshop Elements ?! I have version 12. Once i realized to change the tick box in Camera Raw to 8 bit instead of 16 bit and Flatten image ( sometimes can flatten image if the flatten option isn't greyed out) hey presto i thought i was up and running. However after saving the photograph as a jpeg and renaming it e, after the word edit. I switched off/on my computer only for all the images i had spent time working on to have disappeared. Feeling very upset as there is no Technical Help to telephone at adobe and i don't know what to do.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • CHANGE BRUSH SIZE WITH CTRL and alt KEYS

    Hello everyone,
i'm on the road with my new macbook and i have a problem with setting up my wacom pen.
At home i use a iMac with CS5 and to change the brush size i press the alt and the ctrl key and move the pen to left/tight up/down to chang size and hardnes of the brush. I find this very handy!
On my new Macbook i have CC and i don't have the option to use this easy key combination, i was loking around and did some google, but i could not find the place to get the same settings on my macbook.
Is there anyone who can help me?
    Thank you very much.

When you press and hold Option/Alt  + Control  and Left mouse click and drag nothing happens?
(the button on your pen is set to left click?)
The Option/Alt key should always be the second key to the left of the spacebar
The Control key should always be the third key to the left of the spacebar

  • Changing brush size deletes the layer

In CS5 on Mac OS X 10.8.2, using the [ key to change the brush size deletes the current layer after two-three presses. Why is that and how do I stop it from happening?
The also happens with the scroll ring on a wacom intuos 5 tablet.
Pressing and holding the [ shrinks the brush, but can't do that with a wacom.
    Thanks

Try resetting the preferences other than that post some screen shots of before/after maybe we can see something.

  • Changing brush size while erasing with adjustment brush.

I have search around and have been unable to locate the short cut keys to increase and decrease the brush size while erasing. I use the bracket keys to change the brush size for the brush itself, but when I press the alt key to switch to the eraser, I can't figure out any short cut keys for changing the size of the eraser. It works to go over to the panel, but that is a pain. There must be a short cut for this. Thanks, Eric

That's what I was afraid of. Hopefully in the next version. Thanks, Eric

  • Significant reduction in file size from Camera Raw to DNG

    Hi,
I am currently testing the conversion of Leaf camera raw files into DNGs for a photographer's archive. I am hoping to convert all of the mos files to DNGs because Leaf Capture and the Leaf Raw Converter are not being updated and because the photographer wants to have an Adobe centered workflow. In my testing I discovered that converting mos files to DNGs through ACR 8.4 and LightRoom 5.4 resulted in a reduction of file size by nearly 50%. A 44.5MB mos file became a 23.6MB DNG. From what I've read only about 15-20% of the camera raw file should be lost and all of the data lost should be propietary.
Here-in lies my quesiton, is there any way that I can track or determine exactly what sort of compression is being done to the mos file and what information is or is not travelling in the conversion to DNG?
These are the settings I have used for converting raw files to DNGs:
    ACR:
    JPEG Preview: Medium Size
    Embed fast load data
    Don't use lossy compression
    Preserve pixel counts
    Don't embed original
    LIGHTROOM 5.4:
    Only Convert Raw files
    Delete originals after successful conversion
    File Extension DNG
Compatibility Camera Raw 7.1 and later
    Jpeg Preview Medium Size
    Embed Fast Load Data
    Thanks!

    50%? - I thought we were talking about 15-20%?
In my first post I questioned why I was seeing a reduction in file size of 50% when according to forums and articles I've read I should only be seing a 15-20% reduction in file size. I then wondered what data I might be losing, which you addressed.
Same as what? - what were the results.
I was referring to testing I preformed on camera raw files produced during different years (all mos). I converted all files with the same ACR and LR settings and found that the DNGs always reflected a 50% reduction in file size. This test suggests that any conversion issues is not necessarily related to how the camera raw files might have been differently built across years.
Adobe's raw data compression is touted by DNG zealots, but I haven't scrutinized it enough to corroborate or refute.., but my experience is that reduction is relatively marginal. All of this assumes original is also compressed - if uncompressed in original source, savings would be large.
The files I am dealing with are definitely uncompressed which could account for the large reduction in file size. I didn't realize until I posted to this thread that converting to a DNG results in a compression of the original image data. I understand that this compression is supposed to be lossless like a lossless compression to a tiff and thus result in no decrease in image quality or harm to the original image. I am baffled by how it is possible that any compression of a file (especially  by 50%) could not result in a loss of important data but I will accept that it is possible to have a truly lossless compression and that the size reduction I am seeing could be a result of all of the different processes a file undergoes that you have outlined.
I looked into the effects that backwards compatibility has on the conversion process which might interest you http://dpbestflow.org/DNG#backwards-compatibility
I also posted to luminous landscape's forums http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?topic=89101.new;topicseen#new
Although it wouldn't surprise me if the DNG conversion process tossed the xmp-like metadata, and kept the original stuff, but it would surprise me if it tossed the original stuff - but as I said before, I haven't scrutinized for completeness so I don't know.
I've done testing in which I converted .mos camera raw files with their sidecar xmps and without their sidecar xmps. My tests revealed that the DNG definitely carries over xmp metadata although it is not clear to me exactly how it is carried and if anything is lost.
