Changing brush size while erasing with adjustment brush.

I have search around and have been unable to locate the short cut keys to increase and decrease the brush size while erasing. I use the bracket keys to change the brush size for the brush itself, but when I press the alt key to switch to the eraser, I can't figure out any short cut keys for changing the size of the eraser. It works to go over to the panel, but that is a pain. There must be a short cut for this. Thanks, Eric

That's what I was afraid of. Hopefully in the next version. Thanks, Eric

  • My eraser tool acts weirdly. Everytime i use eraser tip on my pen, I cannot change the size of it with either tablet wheel or brackets. It changes the size of a brush tool instead. This was not happening in CS6.. Any ideas?

So this problem is annoying me. Is there any setting that has been added and this got messed up or is it a bug? In CS6 I could turn around my pen and use the eraser tip and change the size of it.
Now in CC 2014 I can't do it. I have to manually click the Eraser tool, and then change the size. I must say this is annoying as hell.

Reset the tool? What do you mean?
EDIT: Never mind, i found out how to reset. I Ctrl+Right clicked and reseted both brush and eraser but it still doesn't fix the issue. I also downloaded PS CS6 version and it works fine there.. So I don't know what it is. Must be a bug in CC 2014..

  • HELP! Lightroom Crashes Only with Adjustment Brush and only when using HDMI output!

This is very frustrating. I use my Acer N56V laptop to teach Lightroom workshops. I use a 32 inch television as a display. When I have my laptop attached with an HDMI cable and try to use Lightroom's adjustment brush, it crashes. Either the screen and computer just shuts down or I get the Blue Screen of Death. I can do anything else! I can edit in Photoshop, do anything else in Lightroom or even Silver EFX Pro. I can even click on the adjustment brush. But the minute the brush hits the photo (and not before), the computer crashes. If I don't have it attached to the HDMI or if I use a Serial cable, no issues. It's only the adjustment brush and only the HDMI output.
I called Adobe and they said it was because my onboard video card was primary and not the Nvidia. I called Acer and they said it's auto detect. I also tried making the Nvidia card primary and it still happened. Any ideas???

  • Problem with Adjustment Brush enhancing parts of picture it shouldn't

Working on some pictures I encountered the following problem today. I did my major adjustments to the picture (e.g. Exposure -0,95) and then wanted to add some minor touches with the Adjustment Brush. As soon as I placed one click with the brush tool anywhere in the picture the highlights of the whole picture becamer over exposed.
This first screenshot shows the picture after the first adjustments:
Now you can see that I added an Adjustment Brush (Size:11, Feather: 25, Flow: 50, Density: 100) far away from the face and still the highlights in face are blown out. Nothing else has been changed:
Does anyone have an idea what the problem is and how to avoid ACR doing this? It does not make a difference if the adjustment brush is set to a plus or minus value.
    Thanks in advance
    Oliver
    (Win 7 x64 Ultimate, Photoshop CS5 12.0.4, ACR 6.5.0.216)

Thank you for the replies, Tai Lao.
    1. The behaviour is occuring no matter if viewed in 100%, 24% or any other magnification.
    2. No, I haven't tried ACR 6.6. Judging from this thread the problem seems to exist for quite a few versions now.
    3. The brush stroke seen on the screenshot was a "new" one. It was the first brush action done to the picture.
I tried reducing the size of the adjustment brush to 2 and place this tiny brush stroke in the outmost corner of the picture. Still the highlights went up. Opening the picture as a Smart Object before using the brush everything is fine in PS. Reopening the Smart Object in ACR and using the size 2 brush far away from the higlights causes the same unwanted beheaviour.
At first I thought it had something to do with having done some adjustment to the exposure before but testing showed that this phenomena happens even when nothing was done the picture prior to using the adjustment brush.

  • Problems with Adjustment Brush - LR 2.3, Macintosh

I've had numerous discussions with folks at Adobe's Tech Support and they have no idea what is going on with my problem in LR 2.3 on a Mac (10.5.6, 2 X 3 GHz dual Intel, 5 GB ram, startup drive has catalog, images stored on internal drive) so I thought I'd post the problem here just so it was brought to the attention of other folks at Adobe as well as the general user population.
I preform basic parametric edits (Exposure through Detail) on my images and then apply a number of adjustment brush edits to the images, mainly exposure, clarify, sharpen. All of these edits are done over perhaps 25% of the image at the very most, usually a lot less, say 10% of the image.
I then leave LR's Develop module and in the Library, I have used the "Update DNG Preview and Metadata" menu command for any photos that have the downward pointing arrow appearing in the top right corner. I'm not sure why this is necessary or why this indicator is showing since I have never exported these photos for external editing and I have the Metadata preference set in Catalog preferences to "Automatically write changes into XMP." I did have this setting off for some time and after reading Martin Evening's discussion of the pros and cons of using this feature decided to have it checked on.
When I return to my Adjustment Brush edited photos, the AB edits are splattered all over the image, not in any way like the edits I applied when I did the initial edits. I can see the edits quite clearly using the red overlay. Also, the AB control buttons are sometimes in different locations than where I had originally placed them. When this problem first occurred (LR 2.3 RC) it would take minutes to move from image to image in the Develop module. Lots of the Mac spinning beach ball! This is better in LR 2.3 though there is still a slow down after the AB has been applied.
I have exported and moved my catalog of photos to a new computer and the problem persists. I have removed the history to before the AB edits were applied and reapplied the edits and the problem comes back (I think as long as I use the Update DNG Preview and Metadata menu item?!?). I have checked the catalog for integrity as well as optimized the catalog. I have tried applying AB settings to other photos and I have yet to duplicate the problem though I am still testing this.
I showed the problem to Jeff Schewe at the Epson Print Academy in Los Angeles in February and he had no idea what was going on. This was before the release of 2.3. The problem first showed itself while I was using LR 2.3 RC and was also in LR 2.2. It now shows up in LR 2.3. I am being SUPER judicious about using the AB in it's current state and will have to go into Photoshop to do some of the things I wanted to do in Lightroom. I did send a copy of two of the images to Adobe tech support but I never heard anything about what happened with those examples.
Does anyone have any idea what may be going on? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated and I would be glad to clarify any parts of this post that are unclear or to try out any testing that might clear this up. This is happening to about 25 photos in my catalog.

The problem I was having with Lightroom 2.3 and the Adjustment Brush has resurfaced.
Since I had a large part of my hardware replaced as I indicated in my previous posts here I'm sure that the problem is not hardware related.
When the problem resurfaced I noticed that one of my external hard drives that is my Time Machine backup was running (accessing the disk). I cannot be sure but the image corruption may be related to Time Machine (Mac OS X 10.5.6) running while I have LR 2.3 running. This is just a complete guess. I have disabled Time Machine and only run it manually now when LR is not open. I have reopened my past tech support cases and we'll see if Adobe has anything to say about this. What a pain!
BTW, I too have been getting slower and slower performance after I apply the AB to an image. Here's is a sample of one of my corrupted images showing the "splattered" adjustment brush edits that I didn't do but LR decided were "artful." The "splattered" edits appear in many images and appear to have no reason, thus the "splattered" term - somewhat like Jackson Pollack.

  • Liquify brush size increment sluggish with CS3, Intuos 3/window 7

    Hi
I have encountered a strange problem with liquify filter using Intuos 3 tablet pen after installing CS3 on my new Window 7 machine.
I always assign the shortcut keystrokes [ and ] to the pen buttons for increaseing/decreaseing the brush size. In my old Vista computer, everything was all good, the brush size changes continously and quickly when i press the buttons. But now the brush size only changes an increment by 1 pixel (should be 10 pixels?) by clicking it once and it no longer increases or decreases the brush size continously by holding the button.
I thought it was Wacom drivers problems but i un-installed and re-installed their latest and oldest drivers and the problem remains. I wonder if it is CS3 glitch with Window 7? I have installed all Adobe updates for CS3. I would be very grateful to any advice.

It is Intuos driver problem. I downloaded the old Vista tablet driver to run on the Window 7 and problem  solved.

  • Help with Adjustment brush

    Hi All,
I have upgraded LR2 to 2.1. Now I can't use the adjustment brush. When i click on the photo to make an adjustment - nothing happens; not white dot, no change, no nothing. HELP! What am I doing wrong? The gradient filter works just fine.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Al

Albert - if you haven't already, after clicking on the brush tick the small box underneath it to open a drop-down list. At the bottom of this list is another box alongside the word 'Colour' (or color if you're American :-) ). Click or double click on this box to bring up the colour pallet and using the ey-dropper pick a crazy colour such as a deep red. Now try painting with the bush. If you didn't notice the effects before it may be because the chosen colour was way at the bottom of the colour pallet giving you a neutral grey (gray) which is sometimes hard to spot.

  • Need help with adjustment brush in LR3.6, Windows 7

I have a couple questions regarding adjustment brushes in LR 3.6 which I either can't find the answer for or the answer isn't working for me.
    1.  I recently found out there should be Iris Enhance, Skin Soften, etc. brushes in the presets.  I can't find them under the adjustment brush.  I've tried going to Edit->Preferences->Presets->Restore Local Adjustment Presets as several others have suggested but it doesn't appear to do anything.   I have found these files where I've read they're supposed to be (../AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Local Adjustment Presets) but I can't find them in LR unless they're somewhere other than the Adjustment Brush panel.
    2. Also, 'O' turns the mask overlay on and off as it should.  I have 'on' set to red but for some reason 'off' is set to blue and I have to desaturate it everytime I turn off the overlay mask.  How do I change the "off" state to be no color?
    Thanks.

I know off is supposed to be no color but for some reason it's a faded blue color.  The little rectangle next to color that's supposed to have a sort of 'X' from the corners isn't gray, like it's supposed to be, but blue.
As far as I know, I only have 1 catalog.  I went to Edit->Preferences->Presets and I do not have "store presets with catalog" checked. I checked it and have now found the presets I asked about.  Thanks much.
Still can't figure out the mask overlay thing and it's really annoying to have to keep turning it off.

  • Export File to PS with Adjustment Brush effects/masks

This may have been answered before but I searched Google and such with no luck to finding an answer or unsure of what exactly to search as.
Basically Im curious to know if you edit a photo in Lightroom and use the adjustment brush to desaturate the background of a photo for example, then want to export and do further editing in Photoshop, is it possible to do so and have the adjustment brush effects as a mask or layer of sorts to then easily edit in Photoshop?
Since the adjustment brush feature in Lightroom automatically creates a mask I thought I would be useful to import into photoshop and still retail the mask somehow making it easy to isolate that area masked out.
    Thanks.

Thanks, bit of a shame, I do prefer the ease of how LR masks out the areas easily with the brushes.
I could do it manually in PS but takes some time.
I've seen a few plugins for layers within LR but I think its an external type app run via LR (OnOne Software makes it) but I doubt it'll do what I want from the looks.

  • No Basic/Advanced Mode with Adjustment Brush

I have LR3 and can't make any changes using the Adjustment Brush.  I can highlight an area (and change colors of the overlay) but that's it...any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?  I also have no Basic/Advanced switch...
    thanks

The basic/advanced modes were removed from the application as part of the Lr3 update. Hit H key to make the brush visible and O to toggle overlay on/off. Make sure that Density and Flow sliders are not set to Zero. You may have to toggle open the full brush panel to see these options.

  • Scroll image with adjustment brush on

    Hi - anybody know how:-
Zoom to 100% and have the adjustment brush switched on, and then scroll into other areas of the image (without closing the adjustment brush dialogue)??  I mean like in PS you can toggle quickly between brush and the hand, so that you can scroll to another part of the image and then carry on painting with the brush.
    Thanks

In Windows, hold down the spacebar- cursor becomes a hand.

  • Lightroom 2.2 is locking up or crashing while using localized  adjustment brush

Ever since I started using the LAB, lightroom has locked up or just flat out crashed after 5-15 minutes of work with the brush on the same image. Why and how do I solve this?

i gotta say i'm getting pi**ed off as well with this version. i'm having the same issue with LR crashing about 5 minutes into the picture using the adjustment brush.
i've got 4 gig of ram and no other programs running. i should be able to keep CS3 open but closing then re-opening is a pain.
anyone from Adobe looking into this or are we just shouting into an empty cave?

  • Photoshop Liquify Brush Size increase/decrease with alt+crtl drag don't work anymore...

    Hi :-)
I have installed the last Update to Photoshop CS6 13.0.4...
Now I can't increase/decrease the Brush Size in the Liquify-Dialog anymore (before I installed the update, it works fine with alt+crtl and drag)...
If I press alt+crtl, the "Cancel"-Button is shown as "Revert", but the Brush resizing don't work... :-/
    I use a Mac on OS X 10.6.8...
But it seems it has to do with the system... beacause at home I use 10.8.3 and there works everything fine with the 13.0.4 Update!!!

  • No pin shows up with adjustment brush

Using the adjustment brush, a pin is supposed to appear where you make your initial brush stroke. It doesn't show up, even though the effects of the tool are there. I only know what is painted by typing "O" so that the red coloring shows up. The pin does show up using the Graduated filter.
LR2 trial version, Windows XP SP2, 3 MB RAM, 1.8 GHz duo core,

    Hit "H".

  • Override preset setting with adjustment brush?

I used Creative B&W low contrast preset to give an image my neighbor's white cat a high key B&W look. I would like to use the adjustment brush to restore the color of the cat's eyes. I thought raising saturation would do the trick as the preset reduces the saturation to 0. Using the adj brush doesn't seem to do anything to the cat's eyes.
You can see the image here..
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    LR 2.4

At a guess , the preset may also have switched theTreatment to B&W, in which case the saturation in a brush will have no effect. You would have to do this the other way around and brush on the de saturated parts of the image. Or take the easy way out and use PS and masks and layers.
