Changing Canvas Color

How do I change the canvas color in Illustrator CS4?  I do not want to alter the Artboard color, just the canvas.  Does anyone know how?

There is no "canvas" in Illustrator. This is not a raster imaging program.
In Document Setup, Transparency pane, you can use the transparency grid as a fake "background" by setting both parts of the grid to the same color. Effectively, this makes the Illustrator window display as the color instead of white. But this is just an on-screen display, originally intended as a means to view transparency effects. It does not print. It is not the same thing you think of in terms of the "canvas color" in a raster program.
If you want your document to actually have a colored background, draw one. Get the Rectangle Tool and draw a large color-filled rectangle. Sent it to the back and lock it. Or put it on its own Layer and lock the Layer.
In Illustrator, you create and work with objects, not regions of different-colored pixels as in a raster program. If there is no object, there is no color, because there is nothing to which to apply the color.

  • Adjusting PDF properties changes canvas color?

When I adjust properties on a PDF the canvas color changes from nearly black to bluish gray. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Or a way to change the color back?
I'm not talking about the background color of the PDF page itself (which can be accessed at Document > Background > Add/Replace). I'm talking about the color that surrounds the page and is the screen background in Full Screen Mode.
I have tried this in both in Acrobat 8.3.1 and Acrobat 11.0.0 for the Mac and the same thing happens.
    Thanks!

Thanks! Selecting "Hide window controls" does seem to be the only trigger.
The good thing is that the effect is reversible (deselecting "Hide window controls" returns the background color to what it was before).
Is this a bug? I don't see the point of it as a feature. For that matter, it would be useful to have background choices beyond these two colors.

  • Change canvas color

Hey im currently trying to make a title with a background other then black, do I have to add in an actual second clip or can I just change the canvas color?

You need to put a color generator underneath the video clips. Changing the color of the canvas is only for display purposes.

  • Change frame color of brushed canvas theme

Dear all, is there a way to change the frame color of the brushed canvas theme? I've been trying to change the color to align it with my used colors but it looks like the background is a complete image. Any kind of help is highly appreciated.
PS: I'm using the newest version of keynote in Yosemite

Reading your post again I realise what you mean by frame.
The "frame" can't be altered on its own, the background is a single image file so the whole image is changed when altering colour.
A quick but rough Workaround is to place a rectangular shape on the slide, sized to cover the whole slide.  Set with no fill, a coloured border around 50 pixels in width and the opacity reduced. It looks a bit muddy however.

  • Canvas color won't change, only remains white.

I opened Illustrator and my canvas color is white. I tried changing it in the user interface but it just remains white. I checked and unchecked Overprint preview and nothing. I think maybe I hit a key or somehting but does anyopne know how I can change the canvas color back to a dark gray?

    File >> Document Setup
    Turn on simulate colored paper
Set top swatch to color to a dark grey
    Click ok
The only really use for this is if you have colored paper/canvas, is this what you want. If not just dray a dark grey rectangle adn send to back.

I guess that you should have first done this and can even do it even now:
Have the entire project selected first; then open your preferences and choose your white background. This should allow your entire work to have a white background.
That is NOT the way it is supposed to work. The background color preference is global to the application, it does not work on a project by project basis. This preference setting determines what FCP X displays in the Viewer in areas where you have no content (or where the content is transparent) - as in the present case, where the photos do not cover the whole viewer area.
You can easily confirm this. Open some project with a transparent area, and set the background to say, white.
You should see white showing through any transparent area (that's what the OP was expecting, and it should happen!).
Now close this project, open something else. Switch to, say, checkerboard background.
Open the previous project and see the checkerboard (not white!) background.
One workaround for the present problem is to place a custom generator behind the content, and set its color to white. But of course this should not have been necessary.

  • Canvas color changing when exported

This is something I've just spotted, and is actually very subtle, but now I've spotted it, is bugging me.
    Basically have a site here:
    http://www.safariawards.com/
The various headings, eg The Safari Awards 2011 were created in FW, and exported out as JPGs (they might actually be OK as GIFs, but have done JPGs because of the gradient fill of the text, and drop shadow).
Anyway - the canvas color pre export is #39434A. Post export its changing to #39444A.
Is there any reason this should be happening, or any way to prevent it from happening?
    Thanks.

Yes, there's a reason it's happening. The JPEG format is a mathematical representation of the data in an image. The compression works by throwing out what are called "higher order terms." The higher the compression, the more detailed information is lost. Color fidelity is one thing you can lose and it's usually more noticable with line art. If you have sharp, high-contrast lines, you'll lose crispness along them, as high contrast is also represented by "higher order terms." (The .jpg format is really designed for photos, JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group.)
Things you can try. First, try saving at a higher quality .jpg. Compare that to a .gif. Depending on the art, the colors lost in a .gif may not be as noticable to you as the color shift in the .jpg. Also try a PNG24, as these are full color, but not lossy. Compare file sizes and see which image gives you acceptable quality for the file size.

  • Change row color

I am developing an application using Oracle 6i Forms and Developer, and i am new to it.
I have a datablock on a canvas and i am trying to do sth:
When the user clicks on a row of the datablock, the entire row background color should change to green and all the other rows to color grey.
What trigger should i use to make this?
    Thanks

    Indeed,
The block level will also change the color of buttons.
In case of the rest of rows gray, what you can do is by default set the background color to gray and override it with the current record visual attribute at block or item level.
    Regards,
    Tony
PS: You can also use the CURRENT_RECORD_ROW_BACKGROUND_COLOR to set the background color of the selected row.

  • Canvas Color

I just started using Illustrator CS4 and I'm finding the canvas color (not the artboard color) a little bright for my eyes' comfort.
I'm aware of the ability to change the brightness of the interface, but this does not affect the canvas color. Is there a way to change this?
    Thanks!

    > Any way to do so without creating a colored box?
Turn on the Transparency Grid in the View menu. Change the grid colour in Document Setup. No need to draw anything.

  • Changing Tab Color

I have been struggling for a while with trying to change the color of a tab, after it's been displayed.  Some background is that i have a multi tab window.  If something happens in one of the windows, I want to bring attention to that tab and color the tab red.
I am dynamically adding the tabs to the tab navigator from  database table.  I read them in with their data and when I have them all I build up the tab navigator.  My TabObject is really a Canvas that I have extended.

  • Color Correction: Canvas color is off from exported video

    Hey everyone,
Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I've been searching around and can't find the answer I'm looking for.
When I color correct a video, I get it to where I want in the canvas, and then go to export. When I export the video, it looks different from what I did in the canvas. The exported video ALWAYS looks like its never been color corrected. It's very aggravating because I have to over color correct it to make it look the way I want. Like raise the contrast a bit more, to get the exported video to look right, while the preview in the canvas looks bad.
Any suggestions to how to perhaps change the color settings on the canvas? or how to correct this problem?
    Thanks a lot,
    Jonathan

It's unfortunate that the word "calibration" has been co-opted to mean something along the subjective lines of a daily set-up using a blue gun gray scale or a blue screen with NTSC or PAL or HD bars, performing white/black and chroma level adjustments by eye.
Calibration of a monitor in the literal sense is performed by an engineer with engineering tools to perform precise, objective adjustments of the r,g,b bias and gains as well as any yoke alignment in the case of one of those old fashioned cathode ray tube type displays.

  • Return Form Canvas color to unspecified

    {color:#0000ff}Hi,
I´m using forms builder 10g and I would like to know if there´s a way to return the canvas color to <unspecified>?
    thanks.{color}

    Hi,
The name of the Colour you want is 'OLAFVeryLight' - note this is case sensitive, this works for the BLAF and the new 11g SWAN themes.
This colour will change depending on which scheme you use, if you use the old darker schemes such as TEAL or BLUE then 'OLAFDark' is the background colour you want.
This is a list of the Oracle Look and Feel (OLAF) colours, note they are all case sensitive:
automatic (this changes depending on the object it is applied to)
    OLAFVeryLight
    OLAFLight
    OLAFDark
    OLAFVeryDark
    OLAF0
    OLAF1
    OLAF2
    OLAF3
    OLAF4
You might want to create a form with items using all these colours and run them using the different schemes to get a feel for how they work.
A word of warning though, these colours are undocumented and may not work in future releases or even patches, but they do work with 10g and 11g at present.
