Changing case sensitive filenames in DWCS4

I moved a site to a unix server and now run into the problem that some of my file names have capitals in them. When I try to change this in DW, I get told the file already exists and asked whether I want to overwrite. I click 'yes' , but the old, capitalized file name is saved.
Can I change this somewhere in preferences? (I noticed DP's advice on case sensitive links in site settings, but I think that is a different issue) Or do I have to open up all files in a texteditor and save them there? Or is there perhaps an other solution?
Thanks.

Found it. You cannot save a filename with capitals to one without, but you can change the name in the list of files with f2. The new names seem to stick then.
Edit:
Well, "seem" to was the right way of putting it: some file names are easily changed with f2, but other not.
Why would the change from LuchtAlg.htm to luchtalg.htm not stick when the change from LuchtRang.htm to luchtrang.htm does?

  • How can change Case Sensitivity in MS SQL 2008

    hi expert,
I want to change Case Sensitivity to Case Insensitivity  in MS SQL 2008.
    how can I do??
    any help please
    thanks and regards
    jun

    Hello,
there is no way to change this. The SQL Server itself and the SAP Database are installed in an case sensitive collation. If you were albe to change this, your installation will be no longer supported and will, in the worst case, generate incorrect data within the SAP database.
So, start live with it, there is no way to change it.
    Best regards

  • How can I deal with case-sensitive filenames referred to inconsistently inside other files?

I have downloaded into Dreamweaver an existing web site that I'll be taking over from someone else.  The site was built with Microsoft Front Page and apparently now runs on a Windows web server.  While redesigning the site, I'd like to upload it to a web server belonging to me, where I can maintain a work in progress that is accessible to others (so they can give me input as I go along).  But my site is running on a Unix system, where filenames are case-sensitive.
In the site I've inherited, I've discovered at least one file that is referred to in other files sometimes with one character in upper case and other places in all lower-case.  The actual filename contains the upper case character and locally, on my Windows system, it doesn't matter.  But on the server the file is not found when it is referenced in all lower-case.
Of course, I can create an all lower-case symlink on my Unix server for the mixed-case file that I know about.  But I don't want to look through every file on the site for other files which may vary, case-wise, in how they are referenced.  Is there any way that Dreamweaver can help me;  for example, by going through and changing all mixed-case filename references inside files, to be consistent with the actual filenames?
I know this is a lot to ask of Dreamweaver and I'm not optimistic.  But if anyone knows of a solution, I'd appreciate it.

he means that if you use the file > find function
(on windows this can be called upoon using CTRL + F)
you will be able to go through all the files which are cauing you a problem and change their names so that they are all in the same case
    be warned thou
if case sensitivity is your problem,
    and
if some code references to your files are written in one case and some are written in the other case, simply changeing the case of the file names will not help.
what you are trying to do will only work if
    > ALL of the file names are in one case
    or
    > ALL of the files names are the same case
bcause this will mean you can change the one which does not always match using CTRL + F
if there is a mix and match on both sides then you are in for a lot of work, if this problem involves multiple names then i would advise you to simply start over!

  • Changing case-sensitivity while upgrading?

The Macbook pro i recently inherited has a case-sensitive file system and I was hoping to change this by upgrading to Lion. So my question is, is it it possible to do this when upgrading to lion over the Mac store or do I need to get a solid copy of the OS?

Best to put a bootable backup/clone onto an ext FWHD formatted w/o case sensitivity, ensure that you can boot from it, and reverse the process. That should remove that from your machine. Installing Lion won't do the trick.

  • Cannot change case-sensitivity of Time Machine sparse bundle (10.7.2)

Hi everyone, I'm trying to follow this excellent guide to Time Machine backups:
    http://pondini.org/TM/A8.html
The site suggests that I make my TM backup case INsensitive, so after the network sparse bundle has been initially created on my Lion 10.7.2 TM backup, I cancelled the backup, then opened up the sparse bundle in Disk Utility as per the instructions provided.
I double clicked the sparse bundle to open the Time Machine Backups volume, and then in the Erase tab I changed the format from Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled), to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Then I clicked on "Erase" but it returned an error and said it could not do it. Sorry I don't have the exact error message on hand at the moment but it happened again with the same error message when I tried again.
Steps 6-8 in the guide tell me to Get Info on the Time Machine Backups volume and "Ignore ownership on this volume". However when I open the Info for the volume "Ignore ownership on this volume" is not there at all in the options? I've opened up every section of the Get Info window but it's definitely not present.
Has something changed in 10.7 Lion or is there another reason I'm getting this problem? The HDD is connected as an AirDisk on an AirPort Extreme Base Station (yes I realise this is an unsupported/not recommended Time Machine solution). I haven't yet tried directly plugging the drive in via USB which will be my next step when I regain access to my computer later.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Sometimes a backup will fail, sometimes you can't access them, sometimes you'll get this message:
See #C13 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for details.
And by this stage is it too late to recover anything?
Sometimes.    Sometimes they can be repaired by Disk Utility.  Sometimes only a heavy-duty 3rd-party disk repair app like DiskWarrior ($100) can fix them.  Sometimes nothing can.  Sometimes you can restore some individual items, sometimes not.  Sometimes you can do a full system restore from some backups, other times not.
does it help that I am using a Gigabit WIRED connection between iMac - 10/100/1000 switch - Airport Extreme Base Station?
Probably -- you won't have WIFI interference.
But if you have an iMac, why not just connect the external HD directly to your Mac?  That's much faster and more reliable (and supported).
You'd need to erase the disk in that case, since Time Machine won't bother with a sparse bundle at all on a direct backup.  Just format the disk as GUID, with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and let 'er rip!

  • Case Sensitive Check

    Hi,
Is there any way, java could differentiate case sensitive file names or folder names on a windows machine, i think its possible on a linux box. can anyone help me on this
    thanx

Java on windows and Java on Linux are the same. The operating systems on the other hand are not: windows is case insensitive and Linux is case sensitive. So there is no need to differentiate case sensitive filenames on windows as you cannot have two files with the same name in the same folder.

  • WE19 (iDoc Test Tool) and case sensitive content

    Hi experts,
I am not able to send case sensitive content via WE19. When I change a value of an existing iDoc (via WE19) all values of the segment are converted to uppercase (independent of the domain).
    To reproduce:
    1) Open transaction WE19
    2) Use any existing iDoc as template
    3) Open any segment
    4) Fill any field with a lowercase text
    5) Press ENTER
    6) Re-open the segment and check changed field. -> The value is converted to upper case
This (translate to upper case) happens only on the segment that has been edited in WE19.
In my opinion, the transaction WE19 is not usable because it is not possible to edit/change case-sensitive values. In our customer setting we need to send case-sensitive data in iDocs to the receiver.
Question: Is there any other transaction to read an existing iDoc, change the data case sensitive and send it to the receiver.
    Thanks in advance.
    Björn

    Hi,
yes - this is a "strange" behaviour ;o)
Only other solution I know you need an IDoc in status 51 for:
    - go to bd87
    - select the IDoc in status 51
    - navigate to the needed data record
    - double click it
    - menu => display => change
    - insert your data
After saving the status will be reset and you can process the IDoc in BD87.
I am not sure this will work for each IDoc and element - but you may give it a try.
For converting an existing to status 51 you can use this report: RC1_IDOC_SET_STATUS

  • Renaming filenames and case-sensitivity: a race condition in the OS?

There appears to be a curious set of circumstances where the OS doesn't allow you to rename a file where the only changes are case-sensitive. For example, "foo.JPG" to "foo.jpg". You can see an example using the command-shell "tcsh". Start this shell (type "tcsh" at any command prompt), and then type:
    % touch foo.JPG
    % mv foo.JPG foo.jpg
    overwrite foo.jpg? (y/n [n])
Now, you may think it's no problem because few people use tcsh, but the problem is more systemic that should be addressed because I'm finding the problem at a programming level as well. The simplistic tcsh example illustrates the problem: the internals of tcsh call the OS-layer library function rename(2) to move or rename a file. However, something in the OS that reports back that the new filename exists (even though it doesn't) Because it sees foo.JPG, and it doesn't differentiate letter case, it thinks foo.jpg exists, so it returns an error to the calling program. In this case, it's tcsh, which is what prompts the user to overwrite. It doesn't matter what you answer, the result is the same. If you say yesthe OS doesn't see them as different, so it doesn't do anything.
If you're a programmer, you can see this happen for yourself by writing a small program that does the same thing:
    #!/usr/bin/perl
    if (!rename "foo.JPG", "foo.jpg") {
    print "Error: $!\n";
This simple perl script just calls the rename(2) library call, which is part of the OS.
What I don't understand is why this error happens, when, and how to get around it. Obviously, other programs that rename files don't have this problem. The default shell, bash, doesn't have a problem either--even though tcsh (also a similar command-line shell) does. In fact, most programs don't have this problem. But as a programmer, I'm not sure what I should be doing. This exact same perl script (and correlating C programs) work perfectly well on all other unix platforms I've tried.
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5)

It's not at the os layer, it's at the filesystem
layer. The filesystem you have is not case sensitive.
well, the filesystem is part of the operating system, although it's clearly only one component of it. In fact, one of the primary defining characteristics of unix is how the filesystem works, albeit there are variations of implementation. But this is a nit=picking point.
As to the issue of whether the filesystem truly is case-insensitive, that isn't so clear. I can rename a file from foo.JPG to foo.jpg easily in the Finder (just click and edit a file to change it's name from upper to lower, or mixed), and the new name you give it DOES change. similarly, I can do this with virtually any other app that has a file-finder style dialog box. Why I can't do it with the shell (or at an API level) is the real mystery, and there is no doc on the subject that I'm aware of. Clearly, the OS is preserving the change somewhere, somehow. the question is, who's doing it? (and if it's not part of the filesystem, why?)
It could be that some other layer is sitting on top of the filesystem that is overseeing such actions, and is preserving the case of the filenames, but this is such a huge waste of time and work, all for a "feature" whose value is still as yet unclear to me.
If it is, as you say, that "my version" of the filesystem happens to be case-insensitive, I'd love to know where that came from, and what the rationale was behind it. And, of course, how to get some version of the filesystem that doesn't have this feature. I've been working with unix systems at every layer since 1983, and have never run into such a thing before.

  • When logging onto a web site with a log on name firefox is changing logon name from Kostas to kostas as the site is case sensitive it is not acceptable. how do I correct this? Thanks

I registered with a web site and used the name Kostas as the log on name. Entered a question and recieved replies
When I later tried to log onto the web site to say thankyou ,and enter Kostas in the log on box a reminder appears created by Firefox of kostas, I ignore this, move to the password box and firefox changes the log on name to kostas with small k. The register is case sensitive so for quite a while I could not understand what was going wrong? I eventually managed to log on by using a rival system
My previous experience is that if you use a different log on name it is recorded and then you choose the correct one to use? But in this case I am given no choice
How can I correct this please
    Probably no connection but
I registerd with another site and recieved an e-mail in which I had to click on web address to confirm registration and came up with an error message, tried a few times and same thing happened?? The webmaster of this site had no record of my registration details?
Finally I had a phone call from a company called NERD-I.com
offering to solve various computor problems at a fee. I did not take up their offer, but hope they do not have anything to do with my current problems??
    Many thanks

    Hi Corel
    Thank you for your reply
However I need the lower case version for some sites and the upper case version for the site in question? To make matters worse this site does not allow you to change your log on name unless it is in the form of an e-mail address
So what I need is Kostas for this site and kostas saved for other sites and allow me to choose which one I want to use
How do I do this please
I have no bother with this on Win Internet Explorer but I like Firefox
Mind it may be as simple as deleting The appropriate entry and resetting with Kostas instead of kostas?
But I would appreciate knowing the correct solution from an expert

  • Change in SQL from case sensitive to case insensitive

    Hi Experts
We have to change the collation setting for one of my clients databases (SAP doc at the time was erroneous) I am wondering if I can change at the same time the DB from being case sensitive to being case insensitive?
    thx,
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
Are you upgrading from SQL2005 to 2008? We had this problem as it was installed w/SQL2005. What we did was install SQL2008 concurrently with 2005 so we could do a test to ensure fixing the collation would solve some problems with core functionality as well as add-ons, which it did.
Even though all the databases were CI/case insensitive, because the server was CS/case sensitive, it caused problems. You probably have the same. And if you don't, when you upgrade to SQL2008 it seems to do this for you.

  • How do I change the Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) Format of my Verbatim External Hard Drive

    Good evening.
I have a Verbatim External Hard Drive, currently being used for my Time Machine back-up on my MacBook (Running Mac OS X Version 10.6.8).
I also frequently use a normal Windows laptop (Normal 32-bit OS).
The Hard Drive was formatted to Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) in order for the MacBook to do the Time Machine back-up.
How do I change the fromat of the Hard Drive, as i do not need the Time Machine back-up to be done on the Hard Drive anymore, and I NEED to use the external in both PC's.
Your assistance will be greatly apreciated.

Open Disk Utility, select the external hard drive, select erase, and format it as FAT32. You'll be able to use it with both Mac and Windows.

  • Change from case-sensitive disk format to the normal Mac OS Extended.

    Hi,
I need to change from a case-sensitive disk format to the normal Mac OS Extended Journaled version.
I have no external HD fitted, but I do have some DVD-Rs. I need to restore the data from 2 users, including iTunes and iPhoto files.
What's the best way to achieve this?
    Many thanks,
    Tris.

I just got off of the phone with Adobe support. They told me they knew the solution, but that they would not tell me tonight. I had to call back between 6:00 am and 5:00 PM tomorrow. That does not work with my schedule. So I googled some stuff and found that Adobe CS 3 is not supported with Case-Sensitive file systems. So OK, let me install this to my other MAC that has a non case sensitive drive. Same error. Even though I have a non case-sensitive drive, the OS is on a Case-Sensitive Drive and I am never prompted where to install like most all other Mac Software.
I have always formatted case-sensitive. So I am thinking to myself why not start using a non case-sensitive drive. Well, to start off I want it case sensitive. I enjoy web programming and like this feature. Sure it is not needed, but I am glad Apple offered me a choice. And I am sure there are many other reasons why to use it. Also I would be interested in knowing why non case-sensitive drives are supperior.
Why is this a requirement now? I have used Adobe software in the past without this specific issue. I also have Large TB drives and do not know how to 'safely' do this. You will not catch me jumping through this hoop. I will not risk the change to the file system. And I can not be expected to format my drive. I just wonder what Adobe would say tomorrow if I called.
The Direct line I was given by adobe is 800-642-3623 for support on this issue. You don't need anything else but to call this number and ask. You can not get through after hours though.
Wow, I just can't believe this and the lack of interest Adobe had with me.
I hope I can get a refund on the software. Until I am able to downgrade my file system format, I do not want to sit on Adobe's bill. I will buy it again assuming I learn I can't do without PS CS3.

  • Oracle is Case Sensitive, can we change this.?

    Hi all,
As Oracle Data is a Case sensitive.
but i want to know that,
is there any way to change this ?
that is , the data should not be a case sensitive.
    select * from emp where ename = 'smith';
Even the SMITH is in caps. it should return that records for the above query.
    Thanks.
    GowriShankar.N

    As a one off for queries you can use the UPPER and LOWER functions, ie;
    select * from emp where LOWER(ename) = 'smith';

  • Change volume to non case sensitive for Time Machine?

I need to back up a drive I use to archive material.  Tried to add it to list of drives time machine backs up.  Found out the external drive was set up as case sensitive (must have been a default out of the box, never made this choice).  Is there any way to tell an external drive "don't be case sensitive" so that I will be able to back it up with Time Machine?  (That is, make the case sensitive change to the drive without erasing the drive!)  Simpler way to ask question, how can I back up an exernal drive using Time Machine if that external drive was set up as case sensitive?  Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, an Erase and Install is probably the only way you are going to fix this. As you have discovered, it appears that "Restore System From Backup..." reformats the destination drive to match the state in which the backups took place.
The TM backup may not have the ability to rename dupes that might occur if some files have identical names save their case.
Even a reformat and reinstall may not work unless any pseudo-identical files are first renamed.
