Changing certificate

New to dealing with certs here (and relatively new to iFolder), so please be gentle.
After installing iFolder, we got certificate errors in IE and when installing the client, which is not unexpected. I didn't do significant testing then (before I started fiddling with certificates in iManager), but here's the current state:
- Using Organizational CA
- With Org CA added as trusted root in IE, I can access web access/admin via the server's FQDN without error.
- Accessing via hostname or IP draws the cert errors.
- Haven't tested a client install recently, but early on we would get a similar (ignorable) error when installing.
I've generated a cert which I think will work for all cases... trouble is, I don't know how to get iFolder to start using that cert instead of the current one. Where should I start?

  • Change certificates in Exchange servers

    Hello,
I have two Exchange 2007 servers (one with CAS/HUB, one with Mailbox) and I would like to set new certificates.
I work a lot with Exchange 2013 but little with 2007, so I have two questions :
On my Mailbox server, I haven't certificate. I only have one certificate on the CAS/HUB server. This is the functioning of Exchange 2007 ? I don't understand how the mailbox can "talk" with the CAS/HUB in an encrypted way without certificate.
When I will change the certificate on all my services (IIS, SMTP, ...) the clients will have problems with opened Outlook/OWA (certificate errors, reopen Outlook) or it will be transparent ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Please check my comments below:
On my Mailbox server, I haven't certificate. I only have one certificate on the CAS/HUB server. This is the functioning of Exchange 2007 ? I don't understand how the mailbox can "talk" with the CAS/HUB in an encrypted way without certificate.
You need a cert on CAS role and on HUB. As far as internal communication is concerned, its internal algorithm of exchange, you need to explore that on TechNet.
When I will change the certificate on all my services (IIS, SMTP, ...) the clients will have problems with opened Outlook/OWA (certificate errors, reopen Outlook) or it will be transparent?
It will be transparent in most cases and client will not see any inconvenience.
    I hope, this helps you.

  • IPhone SDK: change certificate and/or provisionning of existing app

    Hi,
We recently moved from individual to corporation and I was wondering if we can revoke our dist certificate to create a new one, and at the same time, create new provisionning profiles for our apps?
I'm not sure but for updating apps, don't the provisionning profile needs to remain the same?
    Thanks!

I would make sure that you did not set this app id in XCode. On the Developer Portal --> App IDs --> Manage tab it says:
"You are not required to enter your App ID into your Xcode project. Xcode will incorporate the App ID automatically."
I think you need a * at the end of your app id as well in the App ID configuration in the Developer Portal. You should have something like: 9AK2T6Z3YE.com.somecompanyorname.*
I believe you would enter in "com.somecompanyorname.*" in the second input box when creating an app id.

  • How can I change to a different SSL certificate without restarting FF?

I work in a helpdesk environment and my team requires the use of two different SSL certificates for one particular website depending on what we are doing. I can only find the following two ways to do this:
    1. Restart Firefox - this is really unproductive due to the nature of our work we have a lot of things open and in use in different tabs/windows and restarting firefox makes us lose information/progress (it's not the kind of stuff that re-opening the tabs automatically will fix).
    2. Wait 20 minutes after the last use of the certificate for it to time out and then Firefox will ask us to choose the certificate next time we try to access the page - obviously this is a pretty asinine solution and won't really work. (:
I'm just wondering if there is some way to force Firefox to change certificates or forget the one that is currently in use for the site?

Thanks for the suggestion, I should've mentioned I'd already tried that without success. I tried clearing everything in the Clear Recent History section actually but the certificate is still remembered.
I've also just now tried deleting the certificates completely but not even that works - a little concerning. (:

  • Changing SQL Certificates and/or Symmetric Keys

Re: Changing SQL Certificates and/or Symmetric Keys
We need to encrypt some sensitive data and are looking at SQL Column Level encryption, using symetric keys.
For example, we are following this example
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2431/sql-server-column-level-encryption-example-using-symmetric-keys/
We are told that we might be required to change certificates and/or keys on a schedule, say every 1 year. How how do you change certificates and/or keys and what is the ramification for the data that is encrypted using them - say EncryptedColumn1?
    -- Create self signed certificate
    USE encrypt_test;
    GO
    CREATE CERTIFICATE Certificate1
    WITH SUBJECT = 'Protect Data';
    GO
    -- Create symmetric Key
    USE encrypt_test;
    GO
    CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY SymmetricKey1
    WITH ALGORITHM = AES_128
    ENCRYPTION BY CERTIFICATE Certificate1;
    GO
-- Populating encrypted data into new column
    USE encrypt_test;
    GO
-- Opens the symmetric key for use
    OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY SymmetricKey1
    DECRYPTION BY CERTIFICATE Certificate1;
    GO
    UPDATE Customer_data
    SET Credit_card_number_encrypt = EncryptByKey (Key_GUID('SymmetricKey1'),Credit_card_number)
    FROM dbo.Customer_data;
    GO
    -- Closes the symmetric key
    CLOSE SYMMETRIC KEY SymmetricKey1;
    GO

I think you are saying that to recycle the certificate (Certificate1) in my example to use anALTER SYMMETRIC KEY DROP ENCRYPTION  then ALTER SYMMETRIC KEY ADD ENCRYPTION and my column data will still be encrypted with the same key but built upon a different
    certificate.
    Yup.
what happens when i need to recycle the key?
Then it gets messy. You will need to descrypt and reencrypt with the new key.
I'm not well versed in the requirements for which keys to recycle, but I note that in SQL Server, certificates has an expiration date. Symmetric keys have not. Also, certificates can be imported and be signed by a trusted provider. Symmetric keys are
some random bits created in SQL Server. (With the exception of keys från EKM devices, which is a rare thing.)

  • How to migrate certificate for a native installer

    Hello,
We have a native AIR app that uses some native files, so it needs to be packaged using "adt -package -target native [files...]" command and cannot be created as an AIRI file.
We include the SWF file, the app description XML and the required native files into the installer, and we also include our code signing certificate into this command line, and everything worked great.
Recently our code signing certificate expired, and we released an update with a new certificate.
However on the machines where our application had been installed previously, installation fails with the following error.
The certificate of the installed app fails to match either the signature or migration signature of the AIR file
It turns out that AIR framework expects a migration signature for applications that had been installed before and changed certificate.
The problem is that "adt -migrate" command expects an .AIR file, and fails to migrate a native installer (such as .EXE or .APP).
How should we migrate a native installer? is there any option in adt to do this?
    Thank you in advance,
    Anatoly

I know this is an older post, but it helped me find out how to make the migration procedure for native installer. I tried it with self signed certificate created by ADT tool and everything went fine.
But now, we obtained a commercial AIR signing certificate from Thawte and the process failes in step 3) ADT saying
'Certificate in PATH_TO_P12 could not be used to sign setup.msi' on Windows.
On mac, it says that signing native installer on OSX is not supported, so I skipped the signing option in step 3) and it worked fine.
I can skip the signing option on Windows as well and the process succeeds, but running the installer on machines with previous versions of application results in "Installer mis-configured' error message - the same error as if the migration process was not applied.
I already contacted Thawte if it is a certificate issue, reply from them was 'AIR certificate can only sign .air applications'. But when I build a native application directly from FlashBuilder and sign it with the Thawte certificate the whole process seem to succeed. The application can be installed on machines without previous version of the application. Those who already have the older version get the 'Installer mis-configured' error message.
I want to mark out again, that the same process but with a self signed certificate created with ADT, is successfull and the application can be installer as an update on machines with older version of the app. So I assume the workflow is correct.
Any ideas? Or somebody having the same issue?
    Thanks

  • Code-signing Certificate Renew issue

We recently renewed our Verisign code-signing certificate, only to discover that it breaks the auto-update process with the notorious error "This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured." We were able to make it work by using the ADT -migrate command. That is all well and wonderful. But there are two issues I see. First, there is a 180 day cut-off, beyond which users can no longer be updated. Then, when our certificate gets renewed again next year we might be stuck in a situation where we have to choose which users get to be updated and which are orphaned and are forced to uninstall/re-install.
Furthermore, how much of this pain we have to live with becomes a function of how long a certificate we are willing to pay for. If we're a small company forking out the money for a 3 year certificate might be kind of painful. Why should this be a factor? Why is it not straight-forward to renew the same certificate and have installations back to the beginning of time be alright with it?
It could be there is something about the renewal process that is not right. However, when I renewed my Verisign cert their process pretty much forced me to keep everything about the renewed cert the same as the original, otherwise it would not be a 'renewal'.
If there is an arcane trick we are missing I would be most appreciate to know what it is. This should not be this difficult.
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
I've asked around and learned that the process as you describe is "as designed".  However, there are stratigies for minimizing the downsides.
For more information, please see the following documents:

  • Certificate validity

It seems I can use ADT to self-sign a certificate "...whose validity period ends after 22 October 2033...", as required by Android market. What are the implications of self-signing an app and posting it to the market? What warnings does the user see? Must I always use that certificate to update the app (ex: I'd change certificates to the "real" one once obtained)? Thanks

So it seems impossible to "buy" a certificate that lasts 25 years. Self-signing it is, then!

  • Generating Self Signed Certificate for iPlanet Directory Server for testing

    Hi Experts,
I am unable to find how to generate self signed certificate for iPlanet Directory Server for testing purpose. Actually what i mean is i want to connect to the iPlanet LDAP Server with LDAPS:// rather than LDAP:// for Secured LDAP Authentication. For this purpose How to create a Dummy Certificate to enable iPlanet Directory Server SSL. I searched in google but no help. Please provide me the solution how to test it.
    Thanks in Advance,

    Here's one I did earlier.
    Refers to Solaris 10
    SSL Security
add a new certificate that lasts for ten years (120 months).
    stop the instance:
    dsadm stop <instance>
    Remove DS from smf control:
    dsadm disable-service <instance>
    Change Certificate Database Password:
    dsadm set-flags <instance> cert-pwd-prompt=on
Choose the new certificate database password:
Confirm the new certificate database password:
    Certificate database password successfully updated.
Restart the instance from the dscc:
    DSCC -> start <instance>
Now add a new Certificate which lasts for ten years (120 months; -v 120):
    `cd <instance_path>`
    `certutil -S -d . -P slapd- -s "CN=<FQDN_server_name>" n testcert v 120 -t T,, -x`
Enter Password or Pin for "NSS Certificate DB":
    Stop the Instance.
On the DSCC Security -> Certificates tab:
select option to "Do not Prompt for Password"
    Restart the instance.
On the Security -> General tab, select the new certificate to use for ssl encryption
    Restart the instance
    Stop the instance
Put DS back into smf control:
    dsadm enable-service <instance>
    Check the smf:
    svcs -a | grep ds
    # svcs -a|grep ds

If roundcube and the mail server are on the same host, do you really need SSL?

  • Digitally signing an AIR file

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/build/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118666ade46-7ff0.html

    Hello,
this documentation page at the "Changing certificates" section says:
In some circumstances, you must change the certificate you use to sign updates for your AIR application. Such circumstances include:
                    1. Renewing the original signing certificate.
                    2. Upgrading from a self-signed certificate to a certificate issued by a certification authority
                    3. Changing from a self-signed certificate that is about to expire to another
                    4. Changing from one commercial certificate to another, for example, when your corporate identity changes
What about "Downgrading from a certificate issued by a certification authority to a self-signed certificate" please ? e.g: the opposite of the second circumstance listed in this part of the documentation.
Considering that we respect the 180 days limit after certificate's expiration date:
Is it possible to move from certificate issued by a trusted CA to a self-signed certificate ?
And then move back from the self-signed certificate to a new certificate issued by the same trusted CA as the old one ?
I ask about this because :
Our application's certificate issued by Thawte has expired for 30 days.
Thawte can't provide us a new certificate before the 180 days limit is reached.
So we consider to move from the expired Thawte certificate to a self-singed one. And then move back from the self-signed certificate to the new Thawte certificate which they will give us in the future.
Since we have a big amount of users, we'd like to be sure that this will work and everybody will be able to update the application without any troubles related to the "old expired Thawte certifcate => self-signed certificate => new Thawte certificate" migration.
    Thanks for your help

  • ACE synch fail from device manager

    Hi
I am getting sync fail on device manger A3(2.2) to ACE 4710 appliance when I am changing certificate in one of proxy service. I really greatful if any one has idea.
    Thanks
    Vakil

    Hi Vikil,
Can you tell me if both active and standby ACE are still in sync? Check the "sh ft group detail" command for this.
Can you confirm whether the new certificate is present on both ACE? See "sh crypto files" for this.
Finally, can you show me the config of the ssl-proxy that you would like to modify?
    Thanks,
    Olivier

  • A-V Service won't start on edge

On a Lync 2013 Edge I am getting these errors.
I need to say that yesterday everything worked I just changed certificate (edge, IIS- ARR,
    Office web app).
    - EventID 22021 LS A/V edge Server
LS A/V Edge Server failed to open a network endpoint.
Protocol TCP Address 192.168.33.28 Port 445
Cause: Either an invalid configuration or another process is using the resource.
    Resolution:
Check the configuration of the LS A/V Edge Server and verify the network resource is available.
    - EventID 22037 LS A/V edge Server
Failed to start kernel mode driver component.
Cause: An IP address and/or listening ports may be configured incorrectly.
    Resolution:
Verify that the computer has the IP addresses specified in the topology configuration.
Determine whether any other application or service has already used the TCP/UDP ports specified
    in the topology configuration.
    My Configuration (edge)
    LAN NIC : 192.168.17.208 / 24
    DMZ NIC 192.168.3.208 /24, DG 192.168.3.1
    Host File : 192.168.17.106 DC.domain.com, 192.168.17.208 LyncFE.domain.com
    Certificate has sip.domain.com, meet.domain.com,lyncdiscover.domain.com, dialin.domain.com
... (when I open meet.domain.com correnct certificate is shown)
    My Configuration (FE)
    - InternalFQDN
Edge.domain.com, IP 192.168.17.208 federation, xmpp enabled, port 4443.
    - next hop is LyncFE.domain.com
    - External Settings:
    - Access Edge, Web Conferencing and A/V edge are the
same (just the ports are different)
    sip.domain.com, 192.168.3.208 (5061,444,445)
    Any Ideas? Please help.

Verify that IP addresses mentioned in topology builder and edge server external NIC card. External web service FQDN and Access edge FQDN are the same.
