Changing Contact pictures in iPad's iMessage?

Just downloaded iOS5 today and started using iMessage. Was wondering if anyone knows how to change my own display picture as it is displaying a random photo and I'd like to change it. I don't even know where it took the photo from, just appeared out of nowhere without me setting it.

Editing or Changing Contact Photos by double clicking on the photo box opens a menu with the options of: Defaults, iCloud, Faces, and Camera. However if I try and use Faces, the only thing that comes up is a message: "Find and organise photos of people in iPhoto or Aperture using Faces" No Photos load! And yes I do have Faces set up in iPhoto.

So you don't get anything when editing the photo? No window of any kind?
Do you have any other editing issues with those contacts? You could have a corrupt index file that is not letting you edit them.
If it is not a corrupt index, a workaround for putting in photos is you can drop images into the photo frame.

Hello, my contact picture and my mother-in-law's contact picture does not show in iMessage on our iPhones. The pictures show up on our iPads though. How would we fix this?

This is not a feature on the phone but is on the ipad.

I can't change the picture on iMessage on my Macbook Pro. Please help! :(

Every time I try to change my picture on iMessage it only changes until I close out of it and then it reverts back to the default.
So I know I go to Message --> Change My Picture --> Defaults --> Done
Am I doing something wrong to where the picture won't stay permanently or missing a step?

I do not want to sync on the new pc since the apps aren't there. Were are the app files located in itunes? Can I just copy them to the new computer?

You can transfer itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
The iphone is not a storage/backup device. The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything back.

You do realize that the photo that you see in the messages app is NOT transmitted to the person that you are messaging with. You simply associate that photo with your contacts for your own purposes. That photo is for your viewing pleasure only. If you change your photo in the contacts app, the other person will not see it anyway when you message.

I can add people into my contact list, if I want to send an iMessage, I couldnt save her/his name and contact number into Contact list first. After iMessage sent successfully then can only save his/her into my contact list. This is the way I done yesterday.

Suggestion: Displaying Contact Picture in iMessage

I suggest to add contact pictures display in iMessage. Displaying name only can be a problem for people having trouble remembering name like myself. I have sent message to the wrong person multiple times.
