Changing date on original file

After upgrading to imovie 10, I realized that all previous version media, which is stored on an external hard drive, somehow was modified so that the creation date was actually the date the media was imported into  the previous version of imovie.  I upgraded to imovie 10 with the purchase of a new mac, so the modification to the creation dates may have happened during the migration.  Many of the titles in these media clips have the actual creation or record date in the title when you look at them but when you select get info the actual creation date is different, it's the date the media was imported.  This causes a husge problem, because when the media is updated into imovie 10 the dates are off and correcting the dates for all media is very time consuming.  My question is:
1.  Is there a way to automatically convert the dates to the orgional creations dates.
2.  Is there a way that I can go into the orgional file in the hard drive and change the creation date to the correct date, as this would be much easier then correcting the media after it's updated in the new imovie version 10.  I have tried this under the "get info" screen when looking at the file, however, I see no option that lets the creation date be modified.
Thanks,
Dennis

If you have had a look at your other post,
Why does PSE10 change my file date to today?
you may be able to spot what can have triggered the updating of the catalog. There are too many date types in the exif, some of them are misleading. What is really interesting for a scan? For me (familiy history, genealogy) it's the supposed 'Date taken' or 'CreateDate' to display file chronogically. The file date in the OS is useful for backups.
It's possible that the date digitized has some meaning for you.
If you want to compare the different dates shown by John R Ellis in the Organizer database with those you see in an exif browser (or the properties in the editor, or the information panel in the organizer), you have to note that the 5 types of dates stored in the catalog database are;
-pse:FileDate
-Pse:FileDateOriginal
-xmp:CreateDate
-pse:TagDate
-pse:LastOrganizerModifiedTime
What's important to troubleshoot  your problems is to find what operation triggers the updating of the catalog from the files or vice versa.
That can be: Update thumbnail, Write Metadata to files or...

  • Change "Date Created" on File Folders

What is the easiest way to change or alter the "Date Created" on file folders - To a date that is 6 months older? (OS 9.1)
I need to store my photos in a single large chronologically ordered file. Some of them are sourced from scanned photos and some are received in emails from folks.
I want to store them in the same date order as the day the photos were taken and NOT the day I filed them.
    Thanks.........Robert

    Neil and Don,
I figured out a way to allow me to change the "Date Created" to any date I desired.
    1. Open "Date & Time" file in "Control Panels".
    2. Set the date desired (i.e. 6 months earlier.)
    3. Then Close "Date & Time"
    4. Now in (finder) click on "Command + N",
This creates an "untitled file folder" on the desktop
with the newly selected "Date Created".
    5. Give the new file folder the name desired.
    6. Drag the desired files to the newly created file folder
    and drop them.
    7. Trash the OLD Date Created Folder.
    8. Remember to go back to "Date Created" in "Control
Panels" and change back to the current date.
The above took care of my original question; But, I decided to use the same technique to change the "FILE" date created,
    rather than the "FILE FOLDER".
I opened my digital camera software and took a ".jpg" photo file and did a "Save As" while "Date & Time" were in the altered state. My .jpg photo file now has the new "Date Created".
I know that Niel and Don are completely aware of such a technique, But, I figured other forum members may find this method useful.
Thanks for all of your continuing help........Robert

  • Status Change with Compulsory Original File Attachment

    Hi,
We have created a document with 3 statuses (Created, Acknowledged, Released).
DIR will be created with "Created" status.
When the status will change to u201CAcknowledgedu201D system should check whether the DIR has a original file checked in. i.e. Changing status should be have mandatory condition of original is attached.
Same for the transition from "Acknowledged" to "Released"
    How to do this?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Pavan

    Hi Pradeep,
    Does the status type help?
Also does the BAdi suggested can be used only for the single document type or will be across all the document types?

  • Lightroom changes file date (build and changeing date) by jpg files

    Hallo
I am using Lightroom on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The Problem is that Lightroom changes both dates of the file (the date when the file was build and the date when you have made changings on the file) when i save the Metadates to the file.
This happens only by jpg files. By raw / xmp files is the date of the raw file not changed, the both dates of the xmp are also changed like by jpg.
I want not to change the time when the file was build. So that i can see in the Finder / Explorer when the file was build ( Photo taken).
How can I solve this Problem.
    Thanks for Help

Do not save the metadata to the files. It's quite unnecessary to do so, but of course, you should have full backups of the images and the catalog(s) [.lrcat].

  • A script to change back to original file names??

    Hi,
I'm looking for a script for iPhoto that will give some photos back their original file names?
or any way of doing that?
    cheers

I have used apple scripts to correct time and dates?
    can this cause a problem?
Probably not - although iPhoto probably will not recognize the modified information - but it is not a good idea to modify anything in the iPhoto library except using iPhoto - iPhoto '08 and later have a command to modify date and time - I do not think iPhoto 6 did, although its been a ling time now

  • Pictures in iWeb albums disappeared after change location of original files

I created many albums in iWeb by dragging albums from iPhoto. But then I noticed some pictures from my iWeb albums disappeared after the original pictures got removed to another location (or deleted). How can I tell iWeb to make a copy of the pictures in iWeb itself so my iWeb albums can stay the same even when i need to reorganize the original files on the hard drive?
Any suggestions on how to restoring my albums in iWeb? I am having a bit headache now. Thank you very much!

That is not normal behavior. The photos should stay in iWeb even if you delete them from iPhoto. Are you running a "referenced" library or a "managed" one?
Managed is the default option. If you're running a reference library that may be the reason. If so contact Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html and http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
Unless you have a backup of your domain file predating the loss of the photos I don't know how you will recover the photos.

  • Changing Date Time Original Tag from Date Created Tag

    Hi,
I need to change programmatically the "Date Time Orignal" tag by copying the "Date Created" Tag so that Media Encoder preserves the date during encoding. I can do this by hand without a problem in Bridget 5.5 but would like to automate it. Can I do this with a script?
    Thanks
    Axel

I have been als been plagued by LR displaying the capture time to be, say 3 AM (03:00), when I know I took the picture at 1 PM (13:00). I decided to try and see why this happens. With the help of Phil Harvey's exiftool, I can see that my Canon cameras embed the time into the EXIF data without any time zone information i.e.: Date/Time Taken = 2008:04:02 16:09:23.
    Here is what I found:
If the image is now edited with Bridge, the information is changed to: Date/Time Taken = 2008:04:02 16:09:23-08:00 (time zone of the editing computer for the date the image was made. In this case the date was before daylight savings time started.)
When edited with GeoSetter (good for adding GPS information) the information is changed to: Date/Time Taken = 2008:04:02 16:09:23+02:00 (time zone for Cairo where the picture was taken.)
Lastly edited with LR, the information is changed to: Date/Time Taken = 2008:04:02 16:09:23-08:00
When the above images are viewed in LR, using PDT, they display the time as 17:09:23 except for the image tagged with the Cairo time, which displays 07:09:23. If the computer's time zone is changed the displayed time changes accordingly.
If the images are displayed with Photoshop CS3 all the times are correctly displayed as 16:09:23 as one would expect.
It appears that the factoring in of the time zone into the displayed time was a conscious decision by the Adobe designers. A decision that several of us are not happy with.

  • HT5252 I tried to change my metadata date and got this   Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file "01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg" because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.

I tried to change the metadata date.  It changed the date on my photo, but when I checked the box that said "also change my original file", it gave me this error message.
Unable to change original file.  Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file “01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg” because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.
    Wassup?

What is your Aperture version? The older versions of Aperture 3 had a problem to apply Metadata changes to the original file.
If you are using the current version Aperture 3.4.5, try to repair the permissions on your Aperture library, if you have not already done so:
Launch Aperture with the key combination ⌥⌘ held down and select "Repair Permissions" from the First Aid PAnel, that will appear.
If that does not help, post back with more information on your original files - are the referenced or managed? Where is your Aperture library located? Since when do you have this problem? And what did you do directly before noticed the problem for the first time?

  • Camera RAW does not save changes to original file

I am making some basic edits to some photos in Bridge CS5 camera raw.  For some of them I want to save over the original file with the new changes.  To do this, I have been pushing "done", which shows the changes to the original file in the bridge preview... BUT, when I go to view them in the original file folder (housed on the desktop), the changes have not been made to the original file.  Changes are only shown in Bridge.
I have rebooted Bridge and the computer.
    What's going on?

That's the way Bridge works. The original file is untouched. All your changes are saved in a separate .xmp file.
To open a copy of the image with the changes applied, click the Open Image button in Camera Raw.

  • Changes in alias not changed in original file.

I Want to go quickly to my most used files.  I made already copy's to the screen but the changes I make in the file on the screen are not changed in the original file.   And i have seen that the whole file (3GB) is copied to the screen. In fact I want a shortcut, quick acces, to some files but go to the original file.
    Thanks for advice,

If you copy a file to a different location, such as the Desktop, that is a different file - it is no longer the original file. So, making changes to it will not change the original, because there is no connection between them.
From what you describe, you should make an alias to the original file, then place that in a convenient place, such as on the Desktop.
Two ways to make an alias -
    • Select the original by clicking it once, then press Command-L (Make Alias in the File menu). An alais to the original will be created there, which can then be moved to a preferred location. In this instance the word "alias" will be added to the end of the filename for the item.
    • Select the original by clicking it once, then hold down both the Command and Option keys while dragging the file to another location. When you release the drag, an alias to the original will be created at the location you dragged to. In this instance the filename will be unchanged.
Note - the icon for an alias will have an added glyph, a small bent arrow in the lower left -

  • HELP! I lose original file name when changing folders or extensions

I'm confused!  Didn't used to be a problem, but now, when I 'save as' and change either the original file location or the file extension (eg PSD to JPG) the file name changes to ".jpg"  Any ideas would help!!! thanks.

Default format isn't the problem.  I don't think i explained very good, let me elaborate:
Say I have a file named "abcdefg".
I open it, and edit it, add layers etc.
When I choose "save as" the orgianal name of the file appears ("abcdefg") as the "file name", all good here.
This is where the problem occurs: if I
    A) change the folder the file will be saved in
    B) change the format/extension
the file name "abcdefg" is wiped out and the file is automatically renamed ".JPG" or ".PSD" whichever format the orgianl files was (if i'm saving in a different folder) or ".JPG" ".PSD" according to the new format/extension.
This is a problem because i'm working with long complex file names that I'd prefer to not have to manually enter everytime I save.  To make things more frustrating, it wasn't doing this before.  Any info helps, and thanks for the quick response.

  • Save For Web - saves original file name not new name

Hello, when I use Save for Web with slice(s) the original file name (appended with the slice number) gets saved even though I have changed the file name in the save dialog. This only happens about 50% of the time. Sometimes it saves as expected - with the new file name. I am using the default settings in the save dialog all the time.
Stranger is that if I am saving (for Web) say 10 slices some will be named with the original file name and some will be saved with the name I gave it in the save dialog.
This was happening on my Windows XP sp2 system when I was saving to an Ubuntu server (local network). So when I switched to a new computer running windows 7 and saving to a new server (windows 7 pro) I thought it might fix the problem - but it has not. So there must be a setting I am missing - though that does not account for the intermittency of the problem. I have changed settings under "custom" in the save dialog and things do change except the original file name is persistent not the new name I have given it.
The PSD files come from a designer using a Mac.
    My system:
    PS 10.01
    Windows 7
    AMD x2 duo 250
    4 gig Ram
Thank you for any help you may provide

I made an action to save large batches to a designated "pics" folder. Then when I'm done with a big batch, I just move them to the original folder and let the OS overwrite them. May seem like a lot of work, but I can do a batch of 500 gallery thumbnails in about four minutes and it takes about 30 seconds to move them and replace the originals.

  • DC30 - Templates for original files

    Hello,
is it only possible to create and change templates for original files without transport?
I have one document type for templates which I want to use for different document types in DC30. I only want to create the templates (document type for templates) in production and do not want to use for every new version the customizing with transport order. As it is a production system without changes allowed, I cannot use DC30 direcly in production. Is there an other way without transport from developement? (Table TCZ02 directly is also not allowed).
    Thanks.
    Karin

    Hi,
I feel your requirement cannot be met without transports or without opening the production client.

  • ITunes match and original files

i have a large music collection stored on my server. i've have carefully tagged an organized the music with album art.
will iTunes Match make any changes to my original files on the server that holds the master library or will my original files be left on the server unaltered?

Because you have deleted the files from the Finder and not in iTunes. Never, ever do this. Always delete tracks from within iTunes.
To be able to stream the song from the cloud delete the "track" from the iTunes library but not from the cloud.

Are you using the Adjust Date and Time option or the Batch Change option?  If it's the former try the latter.  If you get the same results  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import  the same video file and check to see if the same problem persists.
