Changing default layer length?

How do I change the default layer length, when inserting an image into a composition?
(I always seem to insert images, and forget that the layer length (time) is very short, then wonder why I can't see it).
It's a minor thing, but help with this so I don't have to go spend 20 minutes Googling would be much appreciated.

  • Preferences, Project, can't change project duration or default layer duration

    Having trouble changing the project duration or default layer duration in Preferences. I change them and restart Motion and nothing is changed.
    Probably overlooking something. Help

    There are a couple of ways to lengthen (or shorten) a project once you've started the project.
    1) Select the Project "layer" at the top of the Layers list, then in the Inspector, select the Properties pane and look down for Duration. You can type in the value needed for the length of project. You have the option of using Timecode, Frames, or Seconds.
    2) Set the Canvas "clock" (/playhead position) to the Project length. To do that, click on the clock icon and the "time" should look like 12:15. Click and drag up (or down) on the time value to lengthen or shorten the project.
    When you start Motion and are presented with a Project picker, in the upper right corner of the dialog, you can set the length required (Duration) for your project(s).  Once you start that project with that time length, Motion will remember and all subsequent projects will be created with that time length until you change it at that location again.  I actually haven't set the default project duration in preferences in quite a long time.  However, if Motion is not remembering the project length setting, you might need to Quit Motion, then hold down the Command and Option keys and restart Motion (that should delete preferences and reset Motion to its defaults).

  • Change default import clip length

    Is there a way to change the default import clip lengths? It seems the default import length is 5 sec (00:05:00). So all photos import at 5 seconds. I would like to import all my photos to come in at 1 frame (00:00:01).

    When you select a photo in the Photos Media pane, does not a "Photo Settings" window appear? You can drag the slider all the way out to 60 seconds if you like.

  • Change the Default Gap Length?

    Is there a way in X to change the default gap length from 3 seconds to some other length?
    (Yes, I know I can change it within the project via Control+D).
    I'm talking about the Default. (Like could be done in 7).

    No.

  • How to change default thresholds for some metrics of all targets.

    Hi!
    We have a lot of servers which have to work hard.
    So, our OEM very often generates messages like these:
    "EM Alert: Critical:dbsora90.tsb.kz - CPU Utilization is 99.95%, crossed warning (80) or critical (95) threshold."
    "EM Alert: Critical:dbsora94.tsb.kz - Disk Device c8t60A9800043346C384C344A4A63516D6Ad0(ssd4) is 99.7% busy."
    "EM Alert: Critical:dbsora94.tsb.kz - CPU Load (Run Queue Length averaged over 5 minutes) is 20.78, crossed warning (10) or critical (20) threshold."
    I need to change default tresholds for mentioned metrics but I can't their defenition in SYSMAN.MGMT_*-tables or suitable settings in OEM GUI.
    And I have no time to edit treshholds manually for each target. )

    Modification of Metric Thresholds (as this is what you are referring to), should be done using the Metrics and Policy Settings link (to be found in the Target Home page).
    Don't mess around with the SYSMAN tables!
    Best thing to do here is to start using Monitoring Templates for this.

  • How to make green the default layer colour?

    With no documents open, the layers panel is blank. How can I therefore access it? I have alot of pmd files I now open in cs4, but need a green default layer. I'm beginning to think this cannot be done. Any thoughts? please and thanks

    A One-line javascript to set the color of layer #1 to green
    (But I bet Harbs could make it perform "on open", which I've steered well away from so far.)
    app.activeDocument.layers[0].layerColor = UIColors.GREEN;
    If you have more than one layer and want to have the full range of UI supplied greens, try this:
    var colors = [ UIColors.GREEN, UIColors.DARK_GREEN, UIColors.GRASS_GREEN, UIColors.GRID_GREEN, UIColors.OLIVE_GREEN ];
    for (i=0; i<app.activeDocument.layers.length; i++)
         app.activeDocument.layers[i].layerColor = colors[i % colors.length];
    Apart from that, it's also possible to use RGB colors to set the layer to any tint of green you can imagine.
    You like being green? I've heard it isn't easy.

  • How about setting default layer styles to 90 degrees by default?

    Who ever really uses 120 degrees for anything? If I could count the number of times I've had to change my layer styles to 90 or 180 from the junky 120, I'd reach a number which doesn't exist because it's so damn big.
    Fix this, or give users an option to set a default and designers will LOVE YOU.

    There's also the "Make Default" button at the bottom of the Layer Styles dialogue box if you tend to use certain settings often.

    APDivs are a thing of the past and is bad practice. You need a working knowledge of CSS to get a modern looking layout and to do justice to your design which looks great btw.
    One out-of-the-box solution is to use Bootstrap - http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/index.html and use the pre-defined classes/ grids to layout your content.

  • Opening documents with custom layer structure, especially default layer unlocked...

    Hi, is it possible to open documents such as jpg screenshots which are apparently a locked layer by default, as instead an unlocked layer?
    Would it even be possible/easy to have a method of opening such documents with the following layers:
    1 original image (unlocked)
    2 blank transparent layer
    3 white locked background
    4 group folder called 'archive' with a copy of the original image, with the group set to invisible
    Could a droplet be made to open documents with such a "precreated" layer set-up?
    For example, I would like to take a screenshot or scan, drag it onto a droplet, and have it open with the layer structure outlined above.
    Thank you thank you thank you...

    "The image is NOT locked."
    Shesh whatever you call it the image the background the initial layer "the so called layer" I would just like to change its default opening to UNLOCKED so at minimum, as I have said four times now, it can be placed in a folder called "Archive" without having to f'ing unlock it...scripting additional opening actions in addition to that at this point must be beyond your imagination
    "Have you tried working on the so called locked layer?"
    HAVE YOU READ THE ORIGINAL QUESTION????
    Working on the background layer is not my primary concern, organizing layers automatically at the start of a workflow is...but nevertheless...erasing part of the background in order to reveal imported images or drawings created beneath it on new layers requires the background be unlocked (so erased sections are transparent rather than black), changing layer order requires unlocking, moving the background on a resized canvas requires unlocking....and of course placing it within a folder requires unlocking -- what the hell is the advantage of it being default locked?? why isn't this optional?
    I can't imagine people working on complex images with multiple folders and forty plus layers in various folders and such -- nevertheless consistently want to leave the background layer just sitting there hanging out in its default locked state. I'm ALWAYS unlocking the damn layer...if only, for the FIFTH TIME, for organizational purposes (to change its layer order and place it within a folder).
    SHESH!
    "Methinks..." Oh please...next time read the question.

  • Changing the layer colour in Isolation Mode

    How do I change the layer colour once I'm in Isolation Mode? I'm using CS4 and tring to edit a yellow object but Illustrator has made the layer/paths/edges yellow making it VERY difficult to see what I'm doing?
    ...actually, I just changed the objects layer to a differrent colour which seems to have made Illustator select the next colour down when in Isolation made.
    Is this my only option?

    I decided to test this more thoroughly.
    Elements edited in Isolation Mode do actually inherit the color of the parent layer.
    But there seems to be an exception: symbols. No matter what color the layer is, symbols edited in Isolation Mode get their own color. And that color is persistent across all symbols, regardless of the layer that they appear on.
    However, that color is not consistent throughout the lifespan of the document. The color changes according to a pattern.
    And the pattern is this: there is a sequential list of layer colors in AI, and a correlation  between the number of layers in your document and the sequential number of the colors in the Layer Options color list. Symbols always use the color that is next in the list of layer colors, following the pre-assigned color of the most recently-created layer.
    Test this out if you want:
    Create a new document. Note that the default layer always uses the "light blue" layer color.
    Now create a second layer in that document. It will be red.
    The third layer will be green, and the fourth will be blue.
    Now make a symbol and edit it in Isolation Mode. It's yellow.
    Now look at the sequence of colors in the layer color dropdown menu: "yellow" is fifth in the list, after "blue," the fourth color in the list. It seems like AI is creating a new temporary layer for editing symbols, and like other layers, it is automatically assigned a color.
    So basically, symbols edited in Isolation Mode will only be yellow if you have four layers. The way that AI assigns colors to symbols being edited in  Isolation Mode seems to depend on the number of layers in the document.
    If you followed the steps above, you can test this out by creating a fifth layer. Notice that it automatically gets assigned a layer color of yellow. Edited symbols will be magenta... the sixth color in the list.
    It doesn't matter if you change the colors of each layer after creating  them; as far as I can tell, if you have four layers, symbols edited in Isolation Mode will always be yellow.
    The workaround would be to add a fifth layer to your document. Symbols in Isolation Mode will then show up in magenta, which is much easier to see on a white background.

  • Change tab (indentation) length in Notes

    In line with Apple's recent decisions to take control away from users, Notes has no way to add to default fonts or change the tab length.  I found a hack to add to the font choices - http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120811055524908.  I can now choose a nice fixed width font.
    However the tab length is still an issue, it seems to be a ridicously long 8 characters.  Anyone find a fix for this?

    It probably isn't a permanent fix, but the Format Menu has an increase/decrease command.

    Change default max object nest level to 512. A max object nest level of 512 should be more than enough for most applications which probably will not be sending deeply nested object graphs over the wire. For applications that are sending deeply nested object graphs over the wire and that bump up against this limit, the limit can be increased but you should also do testing to make sure that serializing/deserializing these deeply nested object graphs doesn't cause stack overflow errors.
    Add documentation for the max object nest level setting.

  • Change default dissolve

    Hi folks, I am new and I sure hope someone can help me. I have been trying to change the default Cross Dissolve, following the directions in "Help" and spending hours trying other things as well, to try to make it work. I change the transition time to various things, then control/click and select Change Default—it doesn't work. I just get the same old useless one-frame dissolve. Sometimes I can get a dissolve that is longer, but I can't repeat it. And I can't adjust it in the timeline. And sometimes it just does things I didn't ask it to do, like give me a four-frame dissolve a few times, then it goes back to one frame spontaneously. I don't think I am an idiot. This is not intuitive at all, and the directions in "Help" are useless. Does anyone know how to change the duration of a dissolve, in such a way that it actually changes, and is actually repeatable? Please help!

    I still have the weirdo changing dissolve length bug on my systems here but Handles are pretty simple in concept but easy to forget.
    If you cut a 3 second clip so you're just using the middle second, then that clip has a one second "handle" before the In cut and after the Out cut.
    Now, imagine you export that clip going only by it's edit points so you ONLY have the middle second exported to a QT movie or something. Then there are no handles before or after those original clips.
    For me thinking in terms of splicing film helped me grasp this when I went from Flatbeds to Final Cut. In order to do a dissolve with actual film you need to lay the two pieces of film atop one another so they overlap - the overlap is the dissolve and the overlap is the overlapping of the two pieces of film's "handles".
    The handle is the little bit of extra you need to make the dissolve before the image is dissolve free and into the next shot.
    You can also think of handles this way: Take one clip and put it on V1, then take another clip and put it on V2 but place it a full second further down the timeline. Now you have two clips that overlap for one second.
    Manually fade the first clip DOWN during the overlap, then manually fade the second later clip UP during that overlap. The overlap there are the clip's handles.

  • How to change default FCoE QoS class - Nexus 5020

    I see that on a Nexus 5020, the default FCoE QoS class is 50%. I am not using FCoE so I would like to adjust this value to 0%. I switch complains and says I can't change default values. How should I go about getting around this to eliminate the FCoE queue and give 100% BW to default? Thanks.

    No. The default classloader is a builtin classloader in
    the JRE. You can use other classloaders.
    The java.net.URLClassLoader is provided in
    the JDK. That's the only one. Otherwise you
    should subclass ClassLoader and implement
    the loadClass method (f.i.
    loadClass("my.program") {
    String file="my.program".replace('.','/') + ".class";
    // find the file in classpath
    // read the class file in a byte[]
    return defineClass(byte[]);
    although this is not the advised way to do it. Search the web for how to implement a classloader directly.
