Changing default media player

I am just wondering if it were possible to change the default media player on a n73 hand unit.
If possible how?
Also with the n73 default media player, can it play .avi files?
Thankyou in advance.

If by AVI you mean xvid or divx files there are a number of apps out there.
Some people seem to favor Smartmovie. But I've never used ti myself so I cannot recomend it.
Handago.com
my-symbian.com
and other sites have a bunch of video player apps. you can purchase.
Most 3rd party apps will change the MIME types automatically so that when you click on a movie it will play in their video player.
Hope this helsp.

  • How to change default media player setting in Mountain Lion

I right click on the desired media player, then I click on "get info" and another pop up appears,
but there is no "open with" selection!  See pic below:
I open the application folder in the Finder window, I highlight the desired media player, I go to the top and
click on File and in the drop down menu, the "open with" is grayed out.  Why?
How do I change the default media player setting or better yet, where do I find what is the default player?  Help Please!

you need to find the file you are trying to have open with a specific application.
for example, I'm going to use an MP4 file titled cat_adventure video.
    here it is in finder
I right click (secondary click) it in finder, and then hold down the option key on my keyboard.
the Open With dialogue should change to "Always Open With" and then you choose your application from the pull out menu when you hover that.
You can make it so all MP4 or whichever file you are using (AVI, MKV, etc) to open with a specific app by right clicking the file choosing get info
The difference here is I'm not selecting the application but a file with the extension of the video format I always want to be opened with a specific application
once in the get info menu I can then select to have the video always open with a certain app.
1.click the open with accordion menu arrow if it is pointing to the left. it should be pointing down.
2.select the application you want to always be associated with that file format
3.select Change All to have that file format always be opened with that Application.
Where this isn't working for you is because you are doing this to the Application itself. you don't do it like that. You need to find the type of file you are trying to open with itunes and then go through these steps.
selecting the application (itunes) instead of the file (mp4, avi, mkv, flv) will not allow you to set what the file format lets you use to play your video.
having said that, itunes is very limited in what it can and can't play. Mainly .mov and mp4's (apples proprietary extensions)

  • How do I switch my default media player

Seeing as how VLC plays way more types of files than does Quicktime, I can avoid many headaches by having my video media files opened by VLC automatically, by default, instead of by Quicktime. I can't seem to find how to make VLC my default player. I've figured out how to make VLC always play individual, specific files but I want to give VLC default status. help.

    Hi, Seanski.
There doesn't appear to be a way to make VLC the default media player other than on the filetype-by-filetype basis you've described, i.e. "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Changing the application that opens a document."
There's no preference for this in VLC itself, nor is there anything related in VLC's Help.
Frankly, I would not make it my default player even if it were possible since there are still plenty of files that it does not play or does not play well, usually AVI files that use a Windows-only CODEC. I only use it occasionally when I have a video file that QuickTime won't play.
Unfortunately, the free Flip4Mac WMV player, which adds support for playing Windows Media files in QuickTime (except those protected with WMA-DRM), is not yet available in a Universal Binary that will work on your MacBook. They plan to release a Universal Binary at some point.
Fellow Discussions contributor "CMYK Design Studio" posted a workaround for using Flip4Mac on Intel-based Macs. The post has expired from the Discussions, but there is currently an archive of it here at Google.
However, I've read here that Popwire WMV-9 Component can play Windows Media files under QuickTime. I've not tried it, but you may want to give it a whirl.
    Good luck!

  • How to change default Ovi Player store ...

    Hi,
I need help from you people.
I had installed Ovi Player. Whenever I try to open Ovi Player, the default store gets’ open is "India". I change the store location to "Germany". When I do the search for particular music, it will again take me to "India" store instead of "Germany" store. In addition, most annoying is that I have to re-login but my user id and password will not work as its different store. Also when I go via music.nokia.de and try to login, it open Ovi player and since default location is "India", it takes me to India store and my login credentials do not work.
I ask Nokia care on how to change default Ovi Player Store location but they are unable to provide any good answer.
I already un-install / re-installed but won't work. Do any of you have answer to my problem? I want my default Ovi Player location to be "Germany" instead of "India".
More information, my regional settings have location as “Germany” and language as “English”.
    Please help.
    Thanks for your response.

I had got message from Nokia on how to correct this issue. This had solved the problem. Below is the mail from them ...
    Dear Chakraborty,
     Thank you for your response.
This error is sometimes caused by a corrupted MDataStore.db3 file used by the Ovi Player.  This file will need to be deleted with the Ovi Player closed.  Then open the player and the datastore file will be rewritten by the application:
Close Ovi Music Player and delete the MDataStore.db3 file:
     Vista C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Data Store\DataBase\MDataStore.db3
     XP C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Data Store\DataBase\MDataStore.db3
Both of these locations are in hidden folders.  So, to view them users will need to:
Open Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Show Hidden Files and Folders
Once Ovi Music is opened again the MDataStore.db3 file will be rewritten to this folder.
After that manipulation try to install the Ovi Player once again:

  • Itunes not working as default media player for mp3's in firefox

In Firefox (and I tried Safari with same results), clicking a link that is supposed to play an mp3, itunes is not completing the operation. itunes is set as the default media player. The mp3 file is actually loaded into user.AppData.Local.Temp, but it is not imported into itunes (nor played). I can move the file to the desktop and then move into itunes. Trying to move from .Temp directly into itunes doesn't work. What am I missing???

  • Default media player

In the same way as you can select a default browser for
previewing, can you also set a default media player for playing

but Corel WinDVD9 - the files have been set to open with WinDVD but
when I test the site in Firefox browser windows media player tries

do not have the option to list WinDVD as default player in Program
Access and defaults panel of XP.
I need to have this working this weekend so any help would be
    greatly appreciated

  • ¿What I have to do to avoid or prevent iTunes to auto configurate or autoselect as default media player each time I open it or connect my iPod?.

    Hello,
For years I use in my computer Windows Media Player and/or Media Player Classic to play my music and video files and I know quite well all their operation options. My problem is that since I install the iTunes program, mainly for servicing my iPod Touch, every time I connect my iPod to the PC or open iTunes, the iTunes program without any warning or authorization auto configurate as default media player overriding my Windows and Classic Media players, so each time  I have to open iTunes and go to the Advanced Preferences Menu and unselect the option " Use iTunes as the default audio application" so to be able to use my favorite media players.
My question is: ¿What I have to do to avoid or prevent iTunes to auto configurate or autoselect as default media player or override my favorite media players, each time I open it or connect my iPod?
    Plese your help,
    Regards,
    Pabl

    Hello BPeery,
I would go through ALL the steps here:
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
Let us know how it goes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Keeping Quicktime from being the default media player

My son has iTunes/Quicktime installed on this computer, but I do not want Quicktime to be the default media player. How do I keep it from being the default media player.

Try just right-clicking on the link to the downloaded file. In most browsers you'll get some variant of a command to download the file to your computer. That would bypass the QuickTime browser plugin.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why Doesn't Making iTunes Your Default Media Player Always Work?

I bought a new hard drive on my desktop PC and I installed Windows 7 Pro on it.  I just installed iTunes version 10.6.1.7.  Everything that's in my itunes music folder seems to be playing fine.
When I inserted an mp3 audio file (from Dropbox)into my iTunes folder and double-clicked to play it, Windows Media Player opened and played it.  So I opened the Auto Play window in Windows Control Panel to make iTunes my default audio player.
I was able to set iTunes as my default player when I insert an audio CD into my PC.  iTues also plays songs that I download from the internet.  But when I attempted to select iTunes as my default player for audio files that I copied and pasted into the iTunes folder, it wasn't listed on the pulldown menu. The only choices listed on the pulldown menu are:
    Windows Media Player
Input Pictures & Video Using Dropbox
Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer
    Take No Action and
    Ask Me Every Time
How can I make iTunes my default media player for any audio file that I wish to play?

Right click mp3 file and select "Open with", then "Choose Default Program....."

  • Can't set Quicktime as default media player

I have Quicktime Pro 7.1.3 on Windows XP Pro (SP2)
When I insert a DVD movie to play...the dialogue box for me to choose an application only has Windows Media Player. I can use Quicktime to watch the movie. Also, I can't even set Quicktime as my default media player under "Start->Set Program Access and Defaults->Custom"
There isn't an option for me to set Quicktime as my default player anywhere. I've tried setting the preferences in Quicktime to recognize those file types but still nothing. I know that Quicktime is installed correctly because I can use it to watch .mov files and watch Quicktime content on the web.
Any suggestions as to how I can get Quicktime to be my default media player or watch a movie using QT?
    PC   Windows XP Pro

QuickTime Player is not licensed for MPEG-2 playback (the format found on DVD's). It will never be able to view "Hollywood" DVD's because those contain CSS (encryption).

  • Changing default audio player in Safari

Safari uses QTime as the default music player and I would like to change it to another program, say RealPlayer. I don't see any option to do so.
I also notice that the Mac version of FireFox defaults to QTime and it doesn't seem to be changeable, either.
In QTime there is also no provision for selecting or deselecting media types. In particular I am interested in using RealPlayer for midi files, rather than QTime but I can only do so by downloading them and right-clicking and selecting RealPlayer, which is a nuisance.
Anyone know how to change the default programs Safari uses?
Dual G5 and MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Real Player simply uses QuickTime to play most QuickTime formats.
So. You're seeing (or listening to) the old "Shell Game" syndrome.
What's under the shell? It may be QuickTime format that you choose to open in Real Player.
And, although Real can play most QuickTime formats, QuickTime can't open most Real formats (.ra or .rm).
And, to make matters worse, SMIL formats may be a crap shoot. QuickTime may be your intended player but the file doesn't play. But it will play when opened in Real Player.
    The answer?
You may have to know ahead of your download what app you'll be using. Tiger (OS X.4) allows a "right-click" (Control-click with a one button mouse) on the link to the actual file.
But this may fail also if the file is served via javascript (no choosing offered).
