Changing default outgoing email address

So, my AppleID is an @me.com address.  I created when I was still in college and put my birth year into the ID out of frustration that [email protected] had already been taken; for the purpose of this we'll call it [email protected]
I've since recognized the value of having an email address that doesn't broadcast one's age and created a more generic alias in the account, we'll call it [email protected]
Previously, on both my iPhone and my iPad, I was able to select "[email protected]" as the default outgoing email address in Mail, a much easier way to always send from that address without having to manually select in the FROM drop down menu.  Now, in iOS 5 with iCloud, that doesn't seem to be the case.  It always wants to use my main AppleID, "[email protected]"  The only way to change it is to manually select in the drop down menu every single time I send an email.
I've looked through every iCloud and Mail setting I can possibly think of.  Suggestions?  Thanks!

Under Settings, Mail,Contacts,Calendars, for each individual mail account, what are your SMTP settings?
When you tap on an account, then tap on the Account Name on the next screen, then tap on SMTP, you will see all the SMTP accounts you have set up.  If you want an account to only use a particular SMTP server when sending from that account or replying to messages received in that account, then you need to set that desired SMTP account as the primary server, and turn all other SMTP servers OFF.

  • Setting default outgoing email address

    I have multiple email addresses that I use in Mail, on my MacBook. Most of them are gmail accounts. Two are godaddy accounts, with personal domain names. I want to have a "main" one (a gmail account) that all my mail goes out from. If I'm in the "wrong mailbox," it goes out from that mailbox, hence getting missed by people, who have rules set up to look for email from my main email address.
    So, I followed the instructions, in the help setting, which said:
    How to change the default account and "From" address
    Mac OS X 10.0 through 10.1.5
    The default account when composing a new message in Mail is the one listed first in the Description column of Mail Preferences. To change this default, you only need to change the order of the names.
    Follow these steps:
    1. Choose Mail > Preferences.
    2. Click Accounts.
    3. Drag account names in the Description column to change their order. The account that is listed first is the default account that is used whenever you open a new mail window.
    Mac OS X 10.2 and later
    The "From" address for a new message will generally be the same as the "To" address of the message that is currently selected. If no message is selected, then the "From" address associated with the currently selected mailbox will be used, if there is one. Otherwise, the default "From" address will be used as described above.
    This is not so, so 10.6.3 Mac OS X. Does anyone know how to make my "main" address the default outgoing email address, whatever address box is highlighted?
    Thanks in advance!!!!!

    Hi,
    Mail > Preferences > Composing > Send New Messages From. This will be your default address for all outgoing e-mails.

  • Default outgoing email address

    I have several email addresses and would like to link a specific address for individual contacts. Is there a way to set a default outgoing email address for specific contacts?

    Thank you SO MUCH for this information. I've read so many other places that the default email address is the address listed at the top of the Preferences>Accounts list, and yet, whenever I send an email, it gets sent from whichever account is highlighted. I've never been able to figure out the discrepancy. I'm so glad I looked deeper and found this post. Thank you!

  • Default outgoing email address for multiple emails

    How do I set up one of my many email addresses on my I-phone to be the default outgoing email for all of them?

    If you have set up one of your email accounts to be the default, all emails sent from outside of the email app will be sent from that email address.  The default email account will be used if a new email is created in the All Inbox.  If you reply to an email or initiate an email from within a given email account, I guess it assumed that you want it to go out as that email address.

  • Default outgoing email address is wrong, how do I change it ?

    I've been using Thunderbird successfully for several years with 6 different email accounts - 1 gmail account, 2 yahoo accounts, and 3 accounts on another domain.
    Recently I added a new gmail account for a project I'm working on.
    Now, the default email address defaults to the new account, which is not what I want at all.
    If I'm replying to or forwarding emails or writing new emails I want the address that I'm sending from to default to the mailbox that I'm currently using, replying from or forwarding from.
    If that just isn't possible, I'd be happy if it defaulted to my general email address (the first one I had) but I certainly don't want Thunderbird to use the email address for the new account, which my project colleagues want only to be used in connection with the project.
    How do I resolve this, please ?

    There is an assumption thast if you are viewing emails in a particular account and then select Write, that you are wanting to Write an email to do with the account you are viewing, so....
    If you are viewing emails in account A and then click on Write, the FROM email address will be Account A,
    If you are viewing emails in account B and then click on Write, the FROM email address will be Account B,
    you can set any account as default.
    This will be the one positioned at the top.
    * Tools > Account Settings
    * Select the account name
    * click on 'Account Actions'
    * click on 'Set as default'
    * click on OK
    If you want to reorganise more than just setting the default account.
    Try this addon:

  • Set Default Outgoing Email address

    I have the curve 8330, and two email addresses. One is for my work, the other my private. I'd like to use my private email as the default for all outgoing messages. I have used the following "Advanced options -> default service -> change CMIME filed -> press menue -> click save.
    I have my personal email set as default on both the 'change' options, however, when I send out a message my work email is showing up as the 'from' address. How can I change this option without permanently deleting my work email. I want to be able to read my work email, however, that is the extent of it on my personal BB.
    Thanks,
    Solved!

    HI and Welcome to the Forums!
    I don't know if this is a feature on your BB/OS, but run some tests to see. What happens on mine is the first time I initiate a new email to a contact in my contact list, it will indeed default to my work address -- and I must override it to whichever of my personal addresses I might want. But, the second time I send to that contact, it remembers the address I used as "from" the last time...and uses that as the default this next time. I've actually come to very much like this feature as I don't have to, in subsequent email sessions, remember to change it...just the first time.
    Cheers!

  • Changing outgoing email address from iphone

    I currently have my MobileMe account set up on my iphone, and it is using my MobileMe ID as my email address <Edited by Host>. However I would like to set it up with my alias<Edited by Host>. Is there a way to change this setting on the phone? I know I can change the outgoing email address from mail on my computer, but I don't see that function on my iphone.
    Thanks

    You can set up MobileMe to use any email address as a 'push' email on the iPhone. The first thing you need to do is set your non-MobileMe (.Mac) email address for auto-forward to your MobileMe (.Mac) account.
    When you create the email account, make sure you set it up as Other (not as a .Mac or MobileMe account.) Then select IMAP as the type of account. Enter the name and auto-forwarded email address. (This is the email address that will show as the "From" email, even though you're using your MobileMe account.)
    For your mail server settings, use your MobileMe settings:
    * Incoming settings:
    o Host Name: mail.mac.com
    o User Name: MobileMe user name
    o Password: MobileMe password
    * Outgoing Settings:
    o Host Name: smtp.mac.com
    o User Name: MobileMe user name
    o Password: MobileMe password
    * Advanced:
    o Use SSL - On
    o Authentication - Password
    o Server Port - 587
    Now you're able to receive 'push' email from your non-MobileMe account, and reply without using the @me.com address. (You can use those same settings in the Mail App as well.)

  • Thunderbird changes outgoing email address

    Composing a new email:
    In the "To" field I start to type an address. Thunderbird provides a drop-down of matches from my address book. I select one of the addresses. Thunderbird puts it into the "To" field. At this point, my cursor is still in the "To" field. Then I hit Enter to move to the next field, & Thunderbird changes the email address to a different address (a different address from my address book).
    If I add a space after the email address before pressing Enter, Thunderbird leaves the email address as is.
    Behavior is kind of random - address is not replaced all the time. Also, for a while Thunderbird will make one change - like always changing address X to address Y, then it will switch to another change - always replacing address Z with address W.
    The replacement address is always one that is in the address book.
    Also, Thunderbird randomly colors some outgoing email addresses as red, even though they are in my address book.

    hi jbh01
    The easiest method is to use the contacts sidebar as described in option 2.
    But contacts do need to be in an Address Book.
    However, if your issue is to reveal more TO fields, then you can drag the divider downwards. See image below.
    If you write using Plain Text , there will be no Formatting Bar. If you use HTML formatting, then there will be a Formatting Bar.
    In the image below there is a Formatting Bar between 'Subject' and the composing area. In the image below, I've indicated this with a red line.
    Use mouse and hover over this line, the mouse should chnage to a double headed arrow. Left click and hold down to grab the line. Then move mouse downwards to move the line. It will reveal more TO fields.

  • How do I change my apple email address to my new email addres

    Help how do I change my email address on my apple id

    First, I did not see "Manage Account" so I used the "Manage ID" feature. I changed my Apple Email address and changed it's password. I receive a message that verified these changes. I then exited "Manage ID". To Test the new ID and Passwod, I returned to "Manage ID". As soon as Manage ID hit the screen, I saw my new email address briefly, and it was then changed to my old email address.
    That is the crux of my problem: Apple uses my old ID as the default and in other areas like iCloud where I need to enter ID and PW, they give me the old ID as the defaul and they don't provide a way to change the id, only the pw.
    I suspect I'm doing something wrong, but I need to have the old email address (ID) permanently removed. It's security has been compromised.
    I appreciate any help you can provide.

  • Is it possible to change the "From Email Address in workflow"

    I have a created a task list and set a workflow for the list.
    Workflow Actions:
    1. Send a Email to the "Assigned To" user whenever a task is created.
    2. If the Task is due, send an reminder Email and even if its not completed, send a Email to the higher Management.
    Workflow is working fine.
    Issue:
    The Email from address is the Email Address that has been entered in the SharePoint central admin Outgoing Email address.
    I would need the from address to be of whomever has assigned the task to the particular person.
    Let me know if its possible?

    Hi Alex,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to change the From email address in workflows.
    The from address is set in the outgoing e-mail settings in Central Administration.
     There is no OOB way to change it in workflows.
    As a workaround, I suggest you develop your own workflow activity to do it.
    Or, there is a CodePlex solution, it contains a Send Email Extended action which allows you to specify the sender, you can take a look at:

  • Sharepoint Outgoing Email Address

    I am looking to configure the outgoing Sharepoint (2010) Email address with the logged in users email address instead of the default. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks. LK

    Not with the out of the box functionality. So for things like Alerts, you'll be stuck with the farm or Web Application outgoing email address.

  • Default outgoing email account

    How do I change the default outgoing email?
    Just noticed that the email to response my emails is not the one I wanted to be, my iPad receives mail from 6 different accounts
    Somebody can tell me how can I change it?

    @Matthew: By "Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars"  I presume you meant "System Preferences>Mail, Contacts, Calendars".
    There *is* a list of my mail accounts there, but I'm seeing no option to "select the DEFAULT account for new messages".
    Am I missing something?
    [ Mountain Lion 10.8 ]
    UPDATE:
    Here's what I found on CNET (and worked):
    Mail.app>Preferences>Composing>
    Then there is option to choose "Send new messages from"
    [NB: The Mac term is not "Settings"; it's "Prefernces" [ Command-. ]
