Changing default partitions DV7 4010tx

I have just purchased a DV7 4010tx notebook (with 640GB HDD) and have noticed that it has 4 partitions C: (everything and anything), E: HP_TOOLS, D: RECOVERY and SYSTEM (no letter?).
I usually set up a separate data drive for ease of backup, but when I tried to, using disk management, I ran into a few problems.
After shrinking the C and trying to create an extra partition it wanted to turn basic drives into dynamic drives, but the help screens state that portable computers are unsuitable for dynamic drives. And after some searching I found a document on the business support forum that indicates that you should leave the HP_TOOLS alone (not add anything to the partition either).
So are there any options as I don't like having all my files floating around in 573GB C drive.....
Cheers
Sue

The Recovery partition can be used for data, after removing HP Recovery Manager. Be sure to burn your Recovery Disks before doing this!

  • How to override the 'default' partition in composite.xml - urgent

    All,
    Version: 11.1.1.4
    I have created a simple BPEL A which invokes another BPEL B which is deployed to 'default' partition. In the composite.xml of BPEL A I can see the WSDL location of BPEL B as *"http://localhost:7001/soa-infra/services/default/BPELB/BPELB.wsdl"*. I noticed that the name of the partition (i.e in our case its 'default') is hardcoded in the wsdl location. During deployment I want to override to other partition, how I can achieve this?
    thanks
    sen

    If you want to change the partion name at run time then used Token ,value concept and define it in build.xml
    For Example
    <target name="replaceAllValues">
    <input
    message="Please enter full path of the file directory:"
    addproperty="dirPath"/>
    <replace dir="${dirPath}">
    <replacefilter
    token="OldValue."
    value="Newvalue"/>
    </replace>
    </target>
    Call the above target from ant build.xml before you deploying the service.
    Regards,
    Tarak.

    Hi Everybody,
    I have question related to behavior of mboxutil -r (renaming mailbox.) SUN messaging server 6.3.11-01
    We are facing the problem when renaming one mailbox. When executed

    This behavior seems to me like bug. Because even moving subscriber to the default partition is not written in the documentation, this move
    should also evoke modification of LDAP profile of subscriber to keep information about used partition aligned with physical occurrence.
    Could you answer my question? And if it is really bug and you can reproduce it, is it fixed already in hot fix release?
    Thanks.

    I believe a support case was opened about this and the resolution was that you need to recognize that you are not only changing the name of the folders but also changing them from one userid (mailbox) to another (new_mailbox). The partition on which the folders should be stored should be defined by the mailMessageStore attribute on the user. If the destination userid does not exist in LDAP, it will use the default partition.
    Also note the discussion under "To Change the Default Message Store Partition" in the Admin Guide:

  • Backup Recovery & Changed Recovery Partition Drive

    Product    : HP Pavilion dv6-6c10us
    OS            : Windows 7 64-bit
    Error         : Cannot create Factory Default Back-Ups/Laptop Recovery Back-Ups
    Changes : Recovery Partition on D drive changed to F drive
    Question : What is the process of telling the HP programs and the laptop itself that the recovery partition is now on the F
                        drive?
                        I  made a back-up of the Recovery partition before I changed drives. I did not make a back-up of the factory set-up
                        back-up (5 dvds). All newly added programs from my XP 32-bit desktop are now on the D partition.

    I changed the drive letters with Windows 7 disk manager using the drive letter change options. I can put the Recovery drive back to drive D and the recovery options would work fine. But I wanted it as another drive letter because my programs from the other pc were installed to that letter and it was just easy to reinstall most of the programs back that way. Of course I had to bump the disk drive down a letter too so that the hdd stuff was right beside each other. Everything is fine, besides recovery on my settings. I just want to tell the computer that the recovery partition is on another partition for the HP program to be able to know where it is again.

  • Change default btrfs subvolume - GRUB problem

    grub-mkconfig  creates a grub.cfg with this kernel command line:
    linux /vmlinuz-linux root=UUID=88e4e9db-0d5d-4055-bb36-6c4bc3454cb3 rw rootflags=subvol=SB0 quiet video=hyperv_fb:1920x1080
    my problem lies in rootflags=subvol=SB0 where is named a specific btrfs subvolume.
    I would like no subvolume be specified in grub.cfg so that the default one will be mounted as root filesystem.
    The reason is I have arch installed into btrfs subvols and I would like to choose which arch variant to boot simply changing default subvol.
    (I've used the installation tips found at http://www.funtoo.org/BTRFS_Fun )
    This is btrfs root :
    ~/bin > mount /dev/sda2 -o subvolid=0 /mnt
    ~/bin > btrfs filesys show /mnt
    Label: none uuid: 88e4e9db-0d5d-4055-bb36-6c4bc3454cb3
    Total devices 1 FS bytes used 3.47GiB
    devid 1 size 126.81GiB used 6.04GiB path /dev/sda2
    btrfs-progs v3.19.1
    /etc/fstab :
    ~/bin > cat /etc/fstab
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    # /dev/sda2
    UUID=88e4e9db-0d5d-4055-bb36-6c4bc3454cb3 / btrfs rw,relatime,space_cache 0 0
    # /dev/sda1
    UUID=df2d9bbc-ab0a-42a5-96ae-7c90f0c15a0e /boot ext3 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 2
    These are the subvolumes:
    ~/bin > btrfs subvol list /mnt
    ID 260 gen 5129 top level 5 path SB0
    ID 264 gen 4975 top level 260 path SB0/var/lib/machines
    ID 265 gen 5092 top level 5 path SB1
    SB1 is a snapshot of SB0 and both contain an arch installation
    SB1 is default one:
    ~/bin > btrfs subvol get-default /mnt
    ID 265 gen 5092 top level 5 path SB1
    but if I run grub-mkconfig it picks up SB0, in my opinion the wrong one.
    Please note that SB0 is currently mounted as system root:
    ~/bin > findmnt -o SOURCE,TARGET,FSTYPE,FSROOT /
    SOURCE TARGET FSTYPE FSROOT
    /dev/sda2[/SB0] / btrfs /SB0
    Is it possible to tell to grub-mkconfig to not name any specific subvol ?
    If you look into: /etc/grub.d/10_linux
    and search for "btrfs"  it may give an hint, but I don't understand it.
    many thanks in advance
    Andrea
    EDIT: of course, if I change kernel command line by hand (:s/SB0/SB1) it works as expected, but it's not I'm looking for, being grub.cfg an automatically generated file.

    I don't use GRUB anymore, but I don't recall it requiring a specified subvolume to boot, however if you've installed to a specific subvolume (SB0 in your case), then you will need to to tell GRUB where to look more specifically than just the device and partition (/dev/sda2).
    What might accomplish what you're asking for is to set up seaparate boot entries for the respective subvolumes / installation variants.  Basically manually add another "menuentry" in /boot/grub/grub.cfg and change the subvolume specified:
    /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    menuentry "Arch Linux - SB0" {
    linux /boot/vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/sda2 rootflags=subvol=SB0
    menuentry "Arch Linux - SB1" {
    linux /boot/vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/sda2 rootflags=subvol=SB1
    You'd need to fiddle with /etc/fstab a then since I'm pretty sure something would freak out if you tried to mount two subvolumes to / at the same time (e.g., duplicate entries with different subvolumes specified).  A much simpler solution would be separate root partitions with shared /boot and /home partitions.  Like so (subvolumes would even be optional):
    /dev/sda1 ext3 /boot
    /dev/sda2 btrfs / *"menuentry" in /boot/grub/grub.cfg > title "Arch Linux - SB0"
    /dev/sda3 btrfs / *"menuentry" in /boot/grub/grub.cfg > title "Arch Linux - SB1"
    /dev/sda4 btrfs /home
    Basically you have two separate installations, which is what it sounds like you're asking for that can be selected at boot time and share a /home partition.  The fstabs in each root would only differ at the / partition entry.

  • Default partition name for Interval partitioned tables

    Hi ,
    Can we change the default partition names which are generated by Oracle.
    For Example :
    CREATE TABLE part_interval (
    id NUMBER,
    created_date DATE
    PARTITION BY RANGE (created_date)
    INTERVAL (NUMTOYMINTERVAL(1,'MONTH'))
    PARTITION part_01 values LESS THAN (TO_DATE('01-NOV-2007','DD-MON-YYYY'))
    Now if I insert values which doesn't fall in the 01-NOV-2007 date, a new partition is created like SYS_P43. Can I change this default partition name in the SQL statement itself . Not through procedures or functions.

    There is an explanation on the admin guide, but what I remember when you create a user, and don't specify the partition, the user mailbox will be store on the default partition.

  • How to change default FCoE QoS class - Nexus 5020

    I see that on a Nexus 5020, the default FCoE QoS class is 50%. I am not using FCoE so I would like to adjust this value to 0%. I switch complains and says I can't change default values. How should I go about getting around this to eliminate the FCoE queue and give 100% BW to default? Thanks.

    No. The default classloader is a builtin classloader in
    the JRE. You can use other classloaders.
    The java.net.URLClassLoader is provided in
    the JDK. That's the only one. Otherwise you
    should subclass ClassLoader and implement
    the loadClass method (f.i.
    loadClass("my.program") {
    String file="my.program".replace('.','/') + ".class";
    // find the file in classpath
    // read the class file in a byte[]
    return defineClass(byte[]);
    although this is not the advised way to do it. Search the web for how to implement a classloader directly.

  • How to change default thresholds for some metrics of all targets.

    Hi!
    We have a lot of servers which have to work hard.
    So, our OEM very often generates messages like these:

    "EM Alert: Critical:dbsora94.tsb.kz - Disk Device c8t60A9800043346C384C344A4A63516D6Ad0(ssd4) is 99.7% busy."
    "EM Alert: Critical:dbsora94.tsb.kz - CPU Load (Run Queue Length averaged over 5 minutes) is 20.78, crossed warning (10) or critical (20) threshold."
    I need to change default tresholds for mentioned metrics but I can't their defenition in SYSMAN.MGMT_*-tables or suitable settings in OEM GUI.
    And I have no time to edit treshholds manually for each target. )

    Modification of Metric Thresholds (as this is what you are referring to), should be done using the Metrics and Policy Settings link (to be found in the Target Home page).
    Don't mess around with the SYSMAN tables!
    Best thing to do here is to start using Monitoring Templates for this.

  • How to change default compile directory tmp_ejb?

    This is the default directory where WebLogic Server 7.0 generates and compiles

    I try to specify the attribute TmpPath="ANOTHER_TMP_LOCATION_DIRECTORY_FOR_EJB"

    Someone knows if there is an enviroment variable that specify this tmp_ejb location
