Changing Default Search (from Google) in Mail

Hi all,
Is there anyway to change the default right (or command) click search option from Google to something else (when highlighting an item in an email)?
And, along the same lines, is there anyway to make it so that you can have a browser other than Safari launch when executing those searches?
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.  I'm afraid not, if I open Preferences then change the Message Font colour to blue and leave the window open, when you start typing the body of the text, it reverts back to black.  The only way which seems to work is to open the colour selector in the tools menu, then select the preferred colour and then start typing.  Unfortunately, you have to go through this process for every new email.

  • Change default search engine (Google)

Given Google's recent foray into the politics of Health in the US, I'd like to stop using them as my default search engine. Is there any way to change the default search engine in Safari? I know it can be done using Safari Enhancer, but that leaves "Google" as greyed text on the tool bar and I don't even want to see their name anymore.
    TIA for any help.

  • Change default search engine to Google uk

Hi. Can someone please tell me how to change my default search from Google.com to google.co.uk? I've an iPhone 4s, latest software etc, location services is on, all safarI settings are correct. I live in the UK. Currently, whenever I search google, it goes to google.com and I then have to click 'more' from the menu, then click 'search tools' then select Any Country and click 'Search: the U.K.'. There has to be a way to change this but I'm struggling to find it. Your help will be much appreciated. Many thanks, Sue

If you want to fix your Google search to a specific Google location, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:
    http://www.machangout.com/
which not only does that but much more equally useful stuff! (Such as automatically deleting Flash cookies.)
(It adds items to Safari Preferences).
Not only does it already list a number of search engines and regions, but you can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
    http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.

They haven't been checked as Solved, it's an option for you to choose one if the answer has solved your problem. You can mark one answer as Solved, and two as helpful. Only you, as the originator of the topic, can see these buttons.
Sorry for the goofed answer. Most people are looking to set the margins and I looked over that you were interested in the tabs.
To save tabs in fixed positions that will appear with every new document, you must modify the default template. You can't open the template from the desktop. If you do, it will open as a standard document. You must open it from the Open dialogue box from within Word. With Word in the foreground, press Command+O and navigate to:
    /Users/your_account/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/
    Open the file Normal.dotm
Set your tabs and save the file. Close the template. All new documents will now open with those preset tabs.

  • Help, my Safari browser has been acting super strange.  It keeps changing my default browser from Google to Only Search, and my search bar will only search on Yahoo no matter what I do.  On top of that I get MacKeeper popups every time I click a link

Help, my Safari browser has been acting super strange lately!  It keeps changing my default browser automatically from Google to Only Search (if you use the search engine Only Search it takes you to Yahoo.com).  My search bar will only search on Yahoo no matter what I do to make it Google.  On top of that I get MacKeeper popups every time I click on a link.  What is worn with my computer and how do I fix it?!

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for a file with a name of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
Here something is a variable word, which can be different in each case. It could be "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," "trusteddownloads," or pretty much anything else.
There may also be a file named
               com.something.helper.plist
    in the same folder.
If you find files with names that fit the above description, post what you have for "something."

  • I cannot change the awesomebar default search from yahoo to google

I've tried editing the about:config keyword.url and inserting the google string or by clicking reset - no good. My prefs.js is not set to read only. I am at a loss as to why it refuses to change. If I do get it to search via google briefly, yahoo takes back over again. What can I do?

Thank you, I actually tried this last night prior to receiving your post. When I launched in safe mode with add-ons disabled Google was the default search each time I tried a search. I deduced that it had to be an add-on that utilizes Yahoo search so I launched in regular mode and disabled all of my add-ons, then turning on each one and checking the search function - I found that the culprit was a YouTube downloader add-on. Once enabled, Yahoo took over. Upon disabling it, Google was back.
So that is my solution to the puzzle!
    Thank you,
    Lou

  • How do I change my searches from Yahoo back to Google?

I use Mozilla regularly as a browser but may have to resort to something else as this search business is getting on my nerves.
I'm a long-term fan of Google which in my opinion, and the opinion of countless others is the best search engine on the market. The AVG Security toolbar though, despite it's claims of being a "security toolbar", interferes with search settings and installs utter rubbish by the name of "Yahoo". I want to remove Yahoo entirely and block and future installs from it.
I've tried "about:config" and types google on the provider names, but it seems AVG have gone one step further. When I type Google in, it reverts straight back to Yahoo. Apparently they have seen fit to try and remove any choice the user have.
Is this even legal? I can find no means of removing or disabling it, and Yahoo keeps popping back up for my address bar searches. It's quite simple. Yahoo sucks and we dont' want it...

See if this helps. Set the AVG default search engine. http://www.avg.com/special-toolbar-how-to-disable-search-tlbrf.tpl-mcr1<br />
You may then need to reset keyword.URL in '''about:config'''. See: <br />

  • How do you change the Spotlight Search from Google to Yahoo???

Does anyone know how to change the Spotlight Search setting in Safari 4 (Non Beta) from Google to Yahoo? I assume there is a way to do this though Terminal but all I can find are commands for the the Beta and not he final version.

I'll echo the other suggestion given already - Glims is the way to go.
My Safari is now set to use (oh the irony!) Live Search!
Now if they can JUST find a way to get the address bar to revert to pre-4.0 behavior I'll be happy!
(I'm not talking about the reload button on the far end; I'm talking about listing URLs by page title, "Top Sites", and bookmarks in that dropdown)

  • Changing default search provider to google

    Question
Hi I need urgent help! When I type into the address bar to search for something, the search is done through mywebsearch. I hate mywebsearch and I know I have to go to keyword.url and reset it, and it will go back to google. It used to work. However, now, after I reset keyword.url and search from the address bar, the first search is conducted through google but it immediately revert back to mywebsearch and i get so irritated!! I have tried this sooo many times but it does not work! Please help me!

My Websearch is a Adware, Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

  • Firefox changed default search engine to Yahoo. How do I restore Google?

Firefox switched my default search engine on MacBookPro to Yahoo, which I dont want. How can I restore Google?

    Open Firefox Preferences:
    Ciao.

  • How do I change Default search engine in the address bar, not the search window on the top right or by using about:config, doesn't work. Worked fine until this FF 8.0 update, now defaults to Yahoo 7. About to throw it in and use Chrome.

When Firefox 8.0 installed it has automatically changed my address bar default search engine to Yahoo7 which is crap. I can not change this back. So when I start FF it opens to my google home page, when I type a subject and search the results are displayed in a Yahoo 7 results page, not google. I am not talking about my default home page or the search bar to the top right. This is still google.
The settings in about:config do nothing.
This was fine until FF 8.0.

    Thanks dmcritchie,
Nice effort but that answers a different question about fixing the add-on Yahoo toolbar.
Pernich and I want to know; If you type search criteria directly into the address bar and hit enter, how to change that search engine from Yahoo to Google.
Otherwise I too will go back to using Google Chrome, even though I really like FF8.0
    please help
