Changing .dmg file extension doesn't work as expected

Hi everybody,
I wanted to change the file extension of an image of a floppy disk creating using Disk Uitility. The original extension is ".dmg". Changing this extension in the Finder window to ".flp" seems to work --- but only at first sight.
Looking at the directory using Terminal, the image file now has the extension of ".flp.dmg". This is creating a lot of problems, for instance when using VMWare Fusion which does not want to mount disk image files with an extension not equal to ".flp".
How to solve the problem?
Try renaming the file in the Terminal using the command "mv". This really changed the file name. Worked for me!
Question:
Is this a problem of the Finder? (or a feature I don't understand?)
Best Regards,
Matthias

In Finder, first ensure that Show Extension is selected in the Get Info window, then back in Finder, file.dmg can be manually altered to file.flp. A query will arise, "do you want to really change this to .flp?" will be asked and confirm that this is how you want it. Its new extension will remain visible.

  • Saving changes on file close doesn't work

    I just upgraded from iLife 4 to 6, and cannot get iMovie 6 to save changes when I close the project and press the Save button in response to the question: "Do you want to save the changes you made in the document [name of file]?" If I hit command-S manually before closing the file, it WILL save changes, but I am worried that one day I will forget to manually save changes, approve the "save changes on file close" request, and my changes will be lost! I have tossed the preferences and run repair permissions, but neither one helped. I have never seen any Mac application (or Windows, for that matter) fail to save changes when you close a file and get asked to save changes. Does yours work? What am I doing wrong?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Welcome to the forum!
    The failure to save when you close a project very, very weird. That one is new to me.
    iMovie HD does require that the project disk uses the Mac OS Extended disk format. If it uses another format, there can be problems saving. So I'd start there.

    Be sure too to rule out third-party plug-ins and QuickTime add-ons that can cause weird problems. There probably aren't many iLife 6 user still using Mac OS 10.3.9. Although iMovie 6 is supposed to run okay, it may be that you'll see problems others don't see.
    Is the routine maintenance that Mac OS X does on its own getting done?

  • Changing multiple file extensions

    Hi,
    My friend has a problem because he has rendered some images from Maya with the extension like this: scene.tiff.1 .... ect all the way to 2500.
    Now when trying to read the files it doesn't work as the extension is in the wrong place. Does anyone know of a way to change all the files so that the new extension is .tiff?
    Thank You

    If Name Mangler doesn't do the job (it's "set extension" function might do the job) another option might be the freeware NameChanger. There might be several ways to accomplish this, but one way would be to use the "remove characters" function and select the appropriate number of characters for each block, e.g. "remove" "from end" "1" for those files with number 1 to 9 at the end, "remove" "from end" "2" for 10 to 99, "remove" "from end" "3" for 100 to 999, and "remove" "from end" "4" for 1000 to 2500.
    Not as straightforward as just changing the extension, but if Name Mangler won't correctly recognize the extension with the numbers appended, NameChanger as above might do the trick.
    Hope this helps.

  • Same file name at Target with change in file extension

    Hi,
    I am working on File to File scenario. I need to create target file name similar to the source file name. This can be achieved by using ASMA. But my requirement is to change the file extension for the target file.
    For example:
    Source File u2013 InvoiceNotification.txtu2026.Then target file should create as
    Target File - InvoiceNotification.csv
    This can be achieved by using OS Command unix script in the receiver communication channel.
    Is there any better way of doing this..say something like Dynamic Configuration or Variable substitution?
    Thank you.

    Hi Achuth,
    I think you are doing content conversion at the receiver side. Go ahead with ASMA, get the file name.
    DynamicConfigurationconf = (DynamicConfiguration)container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKeyFileName = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http:/"+"/sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
    conf.put(FileName, a);
    return "";
    In the receiver file adapter, keep the extension as .CSV. That's enough.
    Else you can follow as said by Abhishek Salvi. Either way you can achieve the requirement.
    Thanks,

  • Numbers 3.2 has changed too much, it doesn't work with my project anymore. How do I revert back to the previous version I was using?

    Numbers 3.2 has changed too much, it doesn't work with my project anymore. 1) The sheet panels used to be on the left hand side and easily reviewable and searchable, but now they are on the top and it's harder to find a specific folder without scrolling (too time consuming), 2) I used to be able to duplicate a folder within my sheet panel window by simply clicking on a folder and hitting Command D, but that doesn't work now so it looks like I'll have to spend even more time to recreate the same tables that used to be easily duplicated, and 3) I can't choose fill colors that matched my project anymore because there are only limited choices available now. And these are only the changes that I'm aware of. I am very disappointed and frustrated. Whatever the motivation was to limit Numbers 3.2, I want the previous version back. How do I revert back to the previous version I was using?

    The sheet panels used to be on the left hand side and easily reviewable and searchable, but now they are on the top and it's harder to find a specific folder without scrolling (too time consuming),
    You can scroll more quickly between sheets if you don't use the left-right triangles, but instead move the cursor up into the bands with the "tabs" and drag right or left.
    Also, if you have a lot if sheets for which you want a quick vertical list, then you can try the following have something like this pop up (showing your sheet names automatically) whenever you hit a keyboard shortcut (in my case shift-command-j):
    This is done via a Jump to Sheet Automator Service (Dropbox download).  To install just doubleclick the .workflow package and (if needed) click 'Download Anyway' in System Preferences > Privacy & Security.
    This will cause a new item to appear in your Numbers > Services menu.  Then, if you want a keyboard shortcut, go here in System Preferences and add one:
    You can rename or remove the service by holding down the option key in Finder and choosing Go > Library > Services. You can also view the AppleScript contaned within the service by opening the .workflow package in Automator.
    This particular service jumps to the first cell of the first table of the sheet you choose from an automatically generated list of all sheets in the current document.

  • Changing the file extension in Oracle Spool

    Hi All,
    I need to spool some specific data for the entire year. I'm using date parameter for selecting the month wise data.
    In single parameter I’m retrieving file_name,From_date and to_date.
    But by default spool file is getting generated with .lst extension, Please let me know if any one has any idea for changing the file extension in spool, Below is code for your reference.

  • Pse 7 changes the file extensions, by using a -1 up to 6 times on a photo, how to stop this problem.

    I cannot keep up with my photos, they somehow change the file extension by adding
    a -1 over and over, how can I stop this process
    to keep a single file extension?

    I checked out the backup/sync, it is not turned on after checking.   Also I do not have a second computer as a backup, I use an Esata drive of 1 TB.
    I have a photo called Rose.jpg, later I try to open the file and it tell be its lost.  I try to reconnect, no luck, then I manually try to find the file and its called Rose-1.jpg or up to Rose-1-1-1-1-1-1.jpg or Rose-1-1-1-1-1-1_edited.jpg.  I do not understand what is taking place in my computer with my photos.   I have about 17,000 photos and I am having a real problem.

  • Changing song's info doesn't work

    When I go to file info and change the file name, etc. it works at first, but when I play the song, it reverts all the info into the original names.
    Can anybody's help me please? It's so annoying!
    I already tried converting the ID3 Tags or consolidating the library, but nothing works! every time I click on the files they go back to their original names/info
    Help!
    (iTunes 7)

    I think the ID3 tags are just the revision to the MP3 data. In other words, the metadata in an MP3 file conforms to certain specifications and over the years they must periodically update it to include new fields or ways to represent new information. So perhaps newer tags are not all that backwards compatible or something?
    I don't know why it works. I just know it does. I assume that "none" must be basic/generic tags only and not including them thar new fangled fields or some such, so I assume "none" probably means a universal set of info that any program can access.

  • Changing Movie File Extensions

    I have a bunch of .avi (home videos) that I want to upload into my iTunes Library.  Using handbrake, this would take weeks.  Why can't I simply change the file extension from .avi to .m4v or .mp4 and drag it into iTunes.  I've tried this once but iTunes isn't recognizing it.  Is my only option the long, tedious one?
    Thanks!

    AVI files are a completely different form of file to, for example, .mp4. To change from one to the other you have to re-code the entire file. Changing the extension has no effect on the file - its only function is to tell the Finder what program to use to open it. An AVI file with an .mp4 extension is still an AVI file and iTunes won't play it.

  • ArrayDeque as a stack doesn't work as expected with complex objects

    Trying to use ArrayDeque as a strorage for complex values <PSList<PSol>> (i.e. Arraylists of structured Values PSol), this doesn't work as expected. The code below should produce different values of pSLWk, being stored on bkStack, which are then to be retrieved by pop() to the variables pSL1, pSL2, pSL3.
    However, retrieval only ends up with three identical data sets (variables) pS1,pS2, pS3.

    Rem: I tried the simple approach as well:
    bkstack.push(pSLWk);
    ...

    Thank you for your comments, although I see we still don't have a common understanding of the problem.
    Firstly, I add the code for the PSList and the PSol classes, so you might find some problem with that:
         public class PSol     {
              private StringBuffer val;
              private int zI;
              private int sI;
              private int bI;
                        // == Konstruktor
              public PSol( StringBuffer v, int z, int s, int b )     {
                   this.val=v;
                   this.zI=z;
                   this.sI=s;
                   this.bI=b;
                        // == Getter,Setter
              public StringBuffer getVal()     {return val;}
              public int getZ()     {return zI;}
              public int getS()     {return sI;}
              public int getB()     {return bI;}
              public int getVSize()     {return val.length();}
              public void setVal(StringBuffer v)     {val=v;}
              public boolean hasVChar( StringBuffer ch, boolean delCh )     {
                   boolean bT=false;
                   StringBuffer fSt=getVal();
                   if (!(fSt.indexOf( ch.toString() )     == -1))     {
                        bT=true;
                        if (delCh)     {
                             setVal(fSt.deleteCharAt(fSt.indexOf( ch.toString() )));
                   return bT;
         }     // PSol
         public class PSList<E> extends ArrayList<PSol>     {
                   /**     Construktor 1: PSList(v,z,s,b) - makes list from single arrays
              private static final long serialVersionUID =  4711L;                         // ### JAVAC Warning! ###
            public PSList (String[] vS, int[] z, int[] s, int[] b) {
                   StringBuffer[] v=new StringBuffer[valDim];

                    v=new StringBuffer(vS[i]);
    //ArrayList<PSol> pSL=new ArrayList<PSol>;
                   for (int i=0; i<valDim; i++) {
                        this.add( new PSol( v[i], z[i], s[i], b[i] ) );
    /** Konstruktor2 : makes list from matrix array
    public PSList () {
    for (int j=0; j<nDim; j++) {
    for (int i=0; i<nDim; i++) {
    this.add( new PSol( new StringBuffer(sGuiArr[i][j]), i, j , i/locDim + (j/locDim)*locDim) );
                        /**     ------- Construktor 3 : PSList(PSList pS) - makes list as a copy of an existing one
    public PSList ( PSList<PSol> pX )     {
                   super (pX); // ArrayList-Constructor (Collection)
    // get Element <PSol>
    public PSol getEl ( int i )     {return get(i);}
         public int getCount()     {return size();}
         public int getTValLg()     {
                   int lg=0;
                   for (int i=0; i<getCount(); i++)     {
                        lg=lg + getEl(i).getVal().length();
                   return lg;
                        /**     ------- checkResult()     -     Check if alll elements are single char +dump
         public boolean checkResult(String messg)     {
                   boolean allOne=true;
                   for (int i=0; i<size(); i++)     {
                        if ( getEl(i).getVal().length() > 1 )     {
                             allOne=false;
                             System.out.print(" ");
                   else     {
                        System.out.print(getEl(i).getVal());
                   System.out.println("<C.R.>"+messg);
                   return allOne;
         }     // Class PSList
    Secondly, I don't really see what you mean by pointing out to 'only one "pSLWk" instance of PSList'. The variable pSLWk is the variable to be worked upon; after some change of the contents, I want to save this state of contents to the stack. When I pop that variable from the stack, I wouldn't want to restore it to pSLWK, but to some other variable, e.g. by public PSList<PSol> pSL1;
    pSL1=new PSList<PSol>(bkStack.pop());Again - to my understanding (which comes from old days of microprocessor coding... - there shouldn't be a need to know how the data came there, or what was the name of the variable who stored it there. And  : the implementation of ArrayDeque returns 'elements' of class E, not references !
    Thirdly, you're right, that the method of using a copy constructor for retrieval looks 'weird'. However - I had some other versions that didn't work either, e.g. the straightforward one, as I pointed out.
    And fourthly: yes, I'm almost sure that I'm messing up something somewhere. I went to this forum hoping to clarify that ... :)
    If you don't mind, could you please sketch a few lines of code, how to 'push' a complex variable to a ArrayDeque stack, and retrieve it - by 'pop()' - to some to other variable of the same class later ?

  • Change notification E_mail text doesn't work in Portal 7.0

    I am changing notification E_Mail text accroding this link:
    <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/33/d494c86203ea40b7b44ddd471baab1/frameset.htm">http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/33/d494c86203ea40b7b44ddd471baab1/frameset.htm</a>
    But it doesn't work.
    and I have a question ,
    where should I saved the file 'com.sap.security.core.util.notification.notificationTexts_language_zh_CN.properties'  in the Portal server.

    Since you have not provided a more detailed desription of what is not working, and what is at error and what you assume the desired output to be for the specific user(s), I can only recommend you check the following:
    1.) The email parameters are being configured per language. As such the user you are testing with needs to have the same default portal language assigned. Either by default or by personalisation.
    2.) The 'com.sap.security.core.util.notification.notificationTexts_language_zh_CN.properties' file you are using may be referencing a notificationTexts_cn.properties language entry. Check the language installations are named the same and be aware this can be case sensitive.
    3.) Ensure that you have the entry in the config tool in the same case.
