Changing domain site name

How do you change the domain url to http://Iweb.domainname.com. Now my web site comes up as something like this, http://web.mac.com/xxxx/iWeb/Hurds%20Words%20and%20Birds/Welcome.html. That's way too hard for anyone to remember. I'm new to iweb so please excuse me if this has been posted and answered before.

There is an alternative, shorter URL available without forwarding an external domain name to your .Mac address. The most basic address for your iWeb content at .Mac is http://web.mac.com/xxxx where xxxx is your .Mac user name. This is all that is needed to open the topmost ('home') page of the topmost site in iWeb's Site Organizer.
Home pages for additional sites are accessed using http://web.mac.com/xxxx/iWeb/sitename.

  • Changing Muse site name

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to change the site name once you've created the site?
I originally created my site and called it www.jameslewisphoto.co.uk, and that is how it appears on google. However, I'd like it to say just James Lewis Photography.
    Any thoughts? Thanks

    Thanks for your reply.
My site is currently saved as James Lewis Photo, not www.jameslewisphoto.co.uk. I think it's more to do with domain name. Do you know of any settings that would change this on Business Catalyst?

  • Changing Web site name?

how do u chnge ur website name on apple.com it says u can @ http://www.apple.com/ilife/iweb/ and I was wondering how you can do that.

    Hi,
I'm sorry but there are a lot of names you could change, so which do you mean?
    Change the URL
-web.mac.com/ name / (you can't change this name, except with buying a new .Mac account)
-www. name .com (this name is called "domain" or url, you can change the .mac domain with your own personal domain, and it would look this way. For that you have to buy a domain for example from GoDaddy and then tell Apple you have this domain and for doing this there's an option somewhere on your .Mac account) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Dotmac/Member/en/gen367.html
-web.mac.com/name/ sitename / this one you can change it in iWeb
-web.mac.com/name/sitename/ pagename.html this one can also be changed in iWeb

  • Changing Sites' Names

Although I am expecting this to happen, but when it does happen, it's really irritating.
I read in one of the support documents in Apple's Support site, stating that if I want to change the site or page names, I'll have to do it in the site navigation menu and hold down Option key while click Publish All to .Mac. I have 2 sites in my iWeb, both set up to use my personal domain name. I wanted to change the original site names because there were 'space', capital letters, and mandarin characters that appear to be very confusing and difficult.
So after changing both the site names and some page names, I hold down Option key while click Publish All to .Mac. It didn't work for several times, with error message (at first was connection problem, then it just simply showed that there were error, no code no nothing). When it finally worked after several hours of trying, I lost all the comments in my iWeb.
I am wondering if this is how it's supposed to work? I mean, if the comments were supposed to be lost after you have changed the site name, then why in the first place Apple didn't state that?
Another funny thing is, after publishing and noticing that the comments are gone in my iWeb, I emptied cache in Safari and tried to visit the published page. Both the pages are there, of course with no comments. Then I went back to the pages with the old site names, and I can still visit those sites (with the old URLs with capital letters, mandarin characters, etc.) and the comments are there!
I hope someone can help me out with this. Contacting Apple regarding iWeb never solve my problem, and this is really a sad thing. Many thanks in advance!

I've had a similar problem. Lost ALL COMMENTS after changing the site around... very frustrating. I have a backup of my original domain file, and when i open it at first they comments are there, but when I go to publish, they disappear. What's up with this?

  • Changing Site Name

I changed my sites name and now iTunes isn't finding my rss feed. How do I fix this? Do I resubmit my site to iTunes?
    thanks,

Yes you can get you're own www.personaldomain.com address. It is very simple to do this and you do not have to take your iWeb site off of the .Mac servers. There are quite a few third party hosts which you can buy a domain from, once you have purchased this domain, you just link it to your web address Apple give you to your purchased domain. Personally I have an iWeb site I've made located at web.mac.com/jgurbisz/iweb but I bought the domain http://www.vacantnewjersey.com from Yahoo Small business and linked it to my .Mac web address. And now when you type in the www. address it brings my iWeb page up.
Just keep in mind that when searching for a Domain Host, that they provide "Domain Forwarding" (almost all hosts do)

  • Changing Site Name Problem

When I change my site name and upload my published folders to my site the site does not show up and I have to revert to the earlier "site' name. For instance I originally left the name "Site" as the site name and changed, saved, published, and uploaded later to a new site name. The browser could not see the new name and no site was available. Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Change site name in google

    Hello,
I have published my site trough iweb on my mobile me account. When I look up my site on google it shows "about". How can I change my sites name?

Is the first page of your site named About? If so change the page title to something else in iWeb and republish.
Or, use the free iWeb SEO Tool to give that page a new title that you would want to show up in the google search.
It can access the site on your iDisk, add the title tag to the About page and save it. SEO remember the tags it has assigned to each page of your site so it can be easily reapplied with just one click of the button after any edits and republications are made.

Try clearing your browser's cache and then visit your site again. If you're using Safari, click on the Safari menu and choose +Empty Cache...+

  • Modeler problem after changing domain name

    Hello GURUS,
I had my BI7 on RHEL5 and MaxDB configured and working with hostname xxxbwd.yyy.pl. Today I had to change domain/host name to xxxbwd.zzzz.yyy.pl. I've changed it in /etc/hosts, changed profile parameter icm/host_name_full to new value and almost everything works.
I have problem with starting modeler form t-code RSPLAN - it throws IE error "Page not found" and I can see that "old" domain name is called. Where do I have to type in new domain name to make RSPLAN work?

  • External access broke after site name change

We have external access to SharePoint 2013 behind a reverse proxy using an ADFS server for authentication. It was working fine until I changed our site name and now externally it gives a 500 error. The event log says there is a problem with AAMs, but this
is a host-named site collection. The default URL for the site is correct. What am I missing here?

    Hi  Benjamin ,
According to your description, my understanding is that after changed the site collection hosted name of a hose-named site collection  you encountered error
500 when you wanted to access the site collection from external.
For your issue, please refer to the blog for renaming site collections in SharePoint 2013:

  • Using iweb, should I change my website name?

I have had a website that is build in iweb that has been live for some time.  I've got great placement on google.  I own my new domain name, and it's right now pointed at my old site name.  I am now changing my site name, but for now I'm changing the header to my new site name, not the title of the site url.  So if it comes up in searches, it will still come up listed as the old name, and the pages are all listed under the old name in the url.  BUT you read my new site name on the top of the page.  If they read and remember that that name, and try to look for it again, they might not find me.  Should I change my site name too?  Can I just change the name of the site in iweb and that will take care of it?
For clarification, my old site is www.vintagehomelighting.com.  My new site is www.vintagehomelighting.com.

    Are you asking...
"Should I change the site name to 'filament-vintage-lighting' so that the URL to any page would be http://www.vintagehomelighting/filament-vintage-lighting/page-name.html" ?

  • Site Name VS. Webpage URL in iWeb'09 - PLEASE HELP!

I have a website I created and have been trying to publish via iWeb on my FTP server.
It tests fine, and since I've tested publishing it with other free site builders. I am positive it works fine on the justHost.com (my host) side of my FTP Server settings and that all my username and password info is correct. In fact, I can see the issue but don't know how to get around it.
When I type my website name in *Site name* in the *Site Publishing Settings* (ie; Site name: www.mywebsite.com), and then I type in the REQUIED *Website URL* (ie: http://www.mywebsite.com) it adds them both together when publishing to the site "http://www.mywebsite.com/www.mywebsite.com" and it says so in the popup window here...
This is how the iWeb tutorial video explains doing it.
I've tried to add other things into the *Site name* area, maily variations of my website. It still won't work. When I tried not to type anything in site name it gave me this pop-up...
    What am I doing wrong!
Why can't I just Publish it to "www.mywebsite.com".

This is just how iWeb works and it is part of the iWeb site structure to publish in this way.
You can change your site name to something shorter like Site or just S or a shorter version of your domain name so that you don't get the double domain name and your url will then be http://www.domain.com/Site/pagename.
Some have suggested that if you are using the built in ftp of 09 that you name your site public_html or www or htdocs or whatever file your host requires you to upload to and then leave the path/directory name empty - this may mean that you site folder contents will just be uploaded.
I have never tried this, but prefer to publish to a folder instead and then use Cyberduck to upload the contents of my Site folder rather than the whole folder itself and you then get the url http://www.domain.com/pagename. However, be warned that if you need the RSS feed to work then it won't if you use this method.

  • Site name lost Site Disappears

I needed to copy an iWeb site to a folder and did so by changing the publishing settings.  But when I tried to switch the setting back and publish the site to Mobile Me the site essentially disappeared.  To make things a little more interesting, I'm using a private domain name.
Worse case scenario, how can I go back to square one and reload the site to MobileMe and use the private domain name?

Don't use the 'go to site link'.
Open Safari and clear your browser cache first and then enter your domain name and see if this works.
If not, then you need to go back to iWeb and re-publish your site to MobileMe again from iWeb, but with your original site name.  If it is still not working after this, then you say that you have a domain name with forwarding set up - you need to go to your domain name registrar and check your forwarding settings there - go to the DNS settings to check your CNAME forwarding and also check that you have entered your domain name correctly into your MobileMe account under personal domain name.
If your site is still not working, then your other option would be to log into your MobileMe account under System Preferences and go directly to your iDisk and delete your site from there and go back to iWeb and then re-publish it.  However, if you have CNAME forwarding set up for your domain name, then a different site name should not make any difference at all, because CNAME is simply forwarding your domain name to web.me.com and is not specific like web forwarding.
If you have masked web forwarding instead of CNAME, then this will make a difference because web forwarding is site specific.  Which forwarding method are you using?  CNAME or web forwarding?
Finally, publishing your site to a local folder, even if you do change the site name should not affect a site that is already published in any way at all.  Publishing to a local folder is not really publishing , so anything already online should not be affected.
