Changing DVD player keyboard controls

Anyone know if it's possible to change the default keyboard controls for the DVD player? I wanted to change the scan/shuttle controls to J,K,L instead of Command-Arrow. Anyone know if this is possible? I'll also post it to the suggestion forum as well. It would be useful for those of us who are used to working in Final Cut Studio and other video programs.

It sounds to me like the problem is stemming from the energy savings settings on the mac. By default all iMacs are configured to go to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity. "Inactivity" is usually defined by the Mac OS as a lack of user input, i.e. through the mouse or keyboard. When watching a DVD you are most likely not fulfilling these user input requirements and the computer is attempting to enter a energy savings mode (sleep mode) while your DVD is playing. The Mac OS should be aware that you are actually using your computer and should not become unresponsive so this sounds like a bug that Apple needs to fix.
My solution is twofold
1st: make sure you are using the most current version of OS X by running software update (just incase Apple did fix this bug)
2nd: Adjust the iMac's "sleep" settings by opening System Preferences and selecting the Energy Saver button. Drag the sliders for system and display sleep to the right when you plan to watch a DVD and return them to normal when finished with your DVD (or your mac will always stay on)
Hopefully this works for you.
Thom
- One extra point: if this problem persists try pressing but not holding the power button on the iMac. This should "wake up" the mac from its perpetual deep sleep. I'm not sure, but perhaps you have wireless keyboard, mouse etc. which may be ignored when the iMac is in a low power or sleep mode.

  • How do I show my keynote file on a dvd player and control the slides?

how do I show my keynote file on a dvd player and control the slides with the skip or next chapter command on the dvd remote? when I export to quicktime, it changes slides on a timed basis. I want the chapter button on a dvd remote to act like a mouse click would.

    Hi Robert
You have to export the individual slides from your Keynote presentation, and then import them into your DVD application.
I use DVDStudioPro - it works fine this. I'm sure iDVD will be OK.Going via QT has never worked for me.

  • How to change DVD player sleep time

I have some DVDs that I like to repeatedly play video clips from. However, I'm having a problem with the DVD player going to sleep before the clip finishes, resulting in a very noticeable delay and message "waking up DVD player" when the time comes to repeat the clip. How do I change the DVD sleep parameter(s) to prevent this annoying behavior?

    Anyone? Anyone?

  • DVD Player & Parental Controls

Where can I download DVD Player 2.7, since it is the only version with MPAA rating parental controls? I have DVD Player 4.6.5. Why don't the latest versions of DVD Player have this?

Have you tried looking to see if those controls were moved to the parental controls section of accounts? If they are not there, then just block access to DVD Player on those user accounts you want to control movie watching habits. Then if the person/people those account(s) are assigned to want to watch a movie, decide if to temporarily grant them access based on the rating for that given film. On the bright side, Apple showed off at WWDC a more comprehensive set of parental controls being integrated into Leopard, so hopefully that issue will be taken into account.

  • Can only change dvd player region 5 times? (idvd player)

me my dad both got computers. I put a dvd in it said it was the wrong region code. then i looked it up on help and it says you can only change the region 5 times. We (the united states) are in region 1 but my dad has some japanese (region 2) discs he wants to play. why can you only change the region 5 times?????????????????

Region encoding is what the motion picture studios use to control the worldwide release of their movies. Apple limits the region change / settings to 5 times. The only way around this is to install a new motherboard....sorry.

  • Lived in germany for 1 year and changed dvd player setting 6 times between 1 and 2

Hi i lived in germany for one year and had american dvds with me and chnaged between german and english more than 6 times now i am in america and only can watch german videos.
Does somebody now how to change a 7th time?

Wikipedia has some more information in this article, DVD region code:
In most computer drives, users are allowed to change the region code up to five times.[10] If the number of allowances reaches zero, the region last used will be permanent even if the drive is transferred to another computer. This limit is built into the drive's controller software, called firmware. Resetting the firmware count can be done with first- or third-party software tools, or by reflashing (see above) to RPC-1 firmware.

  • DVD player/keyboard freezing

I have a question. This just started happening today with my computer. I put my dvd in the computer and start watching it and about 10 minutes later I realize that I can't pause my movie with my controller. I press every button and it doesn't work. I then go to my keyboard and nothing works on the keyboard either. Not the escape, not even the volume buttons. I couldn't force quit so I had to turn off my computer manually. It happened twice to me. What do you think the problem is?

  • Apple DVD Player Question

    Hi,
I'm not sure this is the right forum, but you guys are always very helpful.
I need to make the Apple DVD Player basically a kiosk player.
I have a track ball and a button for enter so that is how you navigate the dvd.
I need to make it in full kiosk mode, meaning no controller on screen.
Does anyone know how to turn off the controller so it doesn't pop up?
    Thanks,
    Dave

You can't disable the controller, but you can drag it out of view.
From to the DVD Player help document (search word: kiosk):
    Setting up a movie kiosk
You can set up a computer to show a movie but not allow users to stop it or otherwise control its playback using DVD Player's menus. This is useful, for example, if you want to play a self-running movie in a public booth.
To control movie playback in kiosk mode, you must use the keyboard. If you want, you can remove the keyboard and connect a mouse directly to the computer after the movie is ready to start.
Be sure the DVD Player Controller is also hidden if you do not want viewers to use it.
Users can still select items from the disc menus by using the mouse, but cannot use DVD Player menus because the menu bar is hidden.
    1. Choose DVD Player > Preferences, and then click Full Screen.
    2. Select the checkbox labeled "Kiosk Mode (disable menu bar)."
    3. To control DVD Player in kiosk mode, use the DVD Player keyboard shortcuts.
DVD Player usually ignores your computer's screen saver and sleep settings so full screen playback is not interrupted.
To allow any automatic screen saver or sleep settings to take effect after a period of inactivity, select "Allow Screensaver on DVD menu in kiosk mode" in the Full Screen pane of DVD preferences. To remain in kiosk mode when exiting the screen saver, also select the "Remain in full screen when DVD Player is inactive" preference. Otherwise, DVD Player exits kiosk mode when exiting the screen saver.

  • I can not unmute my computer dvd player in order to play you tube on firefox

Yesterday after adobe flash player was installed on my computer, the dvd player volume control stays on mute.
    It won't unmute.

    1) First of all Download & Install Firefox 3.6.19. This version and Firefox 5.0.x are the only Stable and Still Maintained versions of Firefox.
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    2) Your UserAgent string in Firefox is messed up by another program that you installed. NET_mmhpset was added by some piece of Comcast software. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Agent
type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and hit Enter ''If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.'' Filter = '''general.useragent.extra.firefox''' Right-click that preference and select '''Reset'''. Now Restart Firefox.
    3) Your User Agent shows that you have the '''Ask Toolbar''' installed. The Ask Toolbar is causing many problems in Firefox versions. '''Uninstall''' that extension. There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control Panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons
    * Restart Firefox
Check and tell if its working.

  • Menu works on Mac but not in DVD player...any idea why?

I created a DVD using IDVD6. The burn process, etc. seemed to go fine. When I stick the DVD in the DVD player, the menu does come up but I am only allowed to press play. I am not able to click to the other button (scene selection), however I am able to if I play the DVD on the Mac.

  • DVD Player Chapter Bug?

    Hi,
I created a DVDSP project with 56 chapters (spread across 7 menus) and built the project. Chapter selections work fine in all menus during DVDSP simulation. However, opening the built VIDEO_TS file with DVD Player resulted in an oddity. Clicking on any chapter selection beyond chapter 49 would not play the chapter.
The DVD Player's control clock shows the correct starting time at, say, chapter 50 and continues to run, but the player window does not play the selected chapter. Instead, the current menu stays in the player window while the clock runs.

In addtion to the previous post, the player will not properly handle DL disc created from DVDSP. The intro movie is skipped and the track's end jump menu is displayed instead. This issue does not occur on the two standalone DVD players I tried this disc on.
Hello? Is anyone from Apple reading this stuff???

  • Re-Changing DVD Regionalcode

I´m trying to re-chance my regionalcode for DVDs. It sais it can be changed one more time. But everytime i click change, DVD-Player exits without any message. What can I do to re-change the code?

    Hi Pui,
I am beginner in this, but might be able to help. I have the Sony DCR-VX2100, which I think is very similar, and have been ploughing through the manual. I just set mine to 16 bits/48 khz.
    Try this:
    Turn on camera.
Open the LCD display, or, look through the view finder.
Push in the menu wheel in
Scroll the wheel down to "CM SEARCH" (the CM icon)
    Push wheel in
    Scroll to AUDIO MODE
    Choose 16.
Hope that this is close enough on your recorder.

  • DVD Remote Control buttons don't work when using regular DVD player

I created a DVD using DVD Studio Pro (version 3.0.2) and am unable to navigate through any menus or buttons using the DVD players remote control. I can press the play button on the actual DVD player and play the movie. How can I fix this issue? Any suggestions would be helpful!
I never changed the default setting on the file I made and the DVD works just fine in the simulator as well as any computer DVD player. Also, is there a way to make sure the DVD will play on all DVD players even if it doesn't read burned DVDs?
    Thanks for the help!

Not sure if I can add anything here - you're in good hands! I'd like to know how you constructed the menus - did you use photoshop layers for the background and overlay, or did you use a pict file? Are these motion menus or static?
About the compatibility - a burned disc will only ever be about 85% compatible with the number of DVD players out there, and if a DVD player states that it cannot read from DVD-R or DVD+R discs then it most likely won't play your disc. The only way to approach full compatibility is to have the disc replicated, but the cost of this usually means it is not worth while for anything less than 500 to 1000 discs at a time. If you are using DVD±R then all you can do is take steps to make sure the disc is as compatible as it can be, such as keeping the MPEG encode less than 7.5MBPS, using AC3 audio, not applying paper labels and so on.
Compatibility is getting better in general, this summer I have burned in excess of 90 individual projects on DVD-R (and duplicated each one up to seven times each) for playback on consumer players and only one came back (so far). When I looked at it there was a chunk missing from the surface of the disc, which probably explained the error!

  • Can you change the hotkeys in Apple DVD Player?

I'm trying to change the hotkeys in Apple DVD Player. Really, all I want to do is add a hotkey for slow motion. I need the hotkeys because I'm using a ShuttleXpress shuttle mouse and I want to beable to click a button to put it in slow motion instead of having to use the normal mouse. Thanks

you can easily assign a keyboard shortcut to slow motion in keyboard system preferences->keyboard shortcuts. however what you want is not a shortcut but a reassignment of a mouse button. the only tool I know that might be able to do that is [USB overdrive|http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/7115]. you'll have to find out if it works with your particular mouse.

  • Why is there a limit on the number of times a "DVD player region" can be changed, and can it be adjusted for more region changes, or an indefinite number of region changes?

Why is there a limit on the number of times a "DVD player region" can be changed, and can this numbert be adjusted for more region changes, or an indefinite number of region changes?

Region encoding is the mechanism that enables motion picture studios to control the worldwide release of their movies. It is required by the DVD Forum (http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml) in all commercial hardware DVD players. Every DVD-Video disc contains one byte of data representing a region code, which limits where the disc can be played.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
Once you have set the region in DVD Player five times it cannot be changed.
Instead, use VLC to view videos from different regions:
