Changing DVD region settings

Hello! I just got my MacBook Pro today and I am trying to watch DVD's on it. For some reason it is not allowing me to change the DVD region. Since I just got it today I obviously haven't had to change the region so I should still have my 5 times to change it. The option to change to region 1 is available,  however the button to confirm is grey? I don't have a DVD player so this is my only way to watch! HELP!

  • How can I change the DVD regional settings?

I have changed my regional settings more than the required times and they cannot be changed any more so l cannot watch some of the dvd's l have.how can l fix it to be multi regional dvd player?

    Hi Sam,
Once the allowed number of region changes has been reached you will need to flash the firmware in your DVD player in order to reset the region count. You can try to Google for the required update for your make/model of DVD ROM or you can check with a Toshiba Service Agent to see if they can arrange this for you.

  • Qosmio G30: Cannot chang the DVD region settings

I have a G30 and appear to have reset the dvd region using Qosmio rather than Windows MC.
When I try to reset the dvd region (back to region 2) Windows MC says there is one change remaining but then does not let me change, advising me that I have the incorrect region media in the drive (I don't)or I do not have administrator rights (I do).

Where did you check the drive region settings?
Did you check it in the drive properties or somewhere else?
In my opinion you have already used all region change attempts and the changing is no more possible.

  • DVD Drive won't work! (DVD region settings?)

My DVD drive does not seem to be working. I sent it in for servicing and was told that they changed the drive.
However, it still does not accept/recognize DVDs at all when I insert them. I recently travelled overseas and changed my region from region 4 to region 1. I have not changed it back, but cannot figure out how to even open the settings.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks!

The drive automatically detects that a disk with a different region was inserted. You can only change it 5 times however. If you continue having problems take it to your nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • Equium - How can I change DVD region?

even thought it says I have 1 more change available. I have a Pioneer DVD-rw dvrkd08a ata device and it tells me it needs a disk of region 2 origin and to insert the disk and try again, but I just go around in circles.
How do I make that one last change back t region 2?

    Hi
The DVD region is limited and can be changed 4 or 5 times
If the option is grayed out then this would mean that you have already changed this settings view times and now its not possible anymore.
In my experience its not possible to disable this limitation
Of course there are many different information about this and many people try to overcome this by updating the firmware using some pirate and not official software but I would not recommend this because this could damage the ODD
In worst case the ODD will not read and write ant disks

  • DVD Region settings

I'm not sure if you know but Apple restrict the region code of the DVD drive so that you can change it, but only 5 times - on the 5th change, that's it - it's set at whatever it was changed to last. There seems to be only 2 ways round this. The first is to flash the firmware - which is a.very dodgy, b.invalidates any kind of warranty you have and c.depending who you listen to, is no longer even possible. Either way it's not an option I'd like to explore.
The other option is to buy an external DVD drive.....and that's where my questions start.
    1. As I'm sure you all know, the region setting isn't just controlled by the drive - so is getting an external drive really an option? Is the MAC OS just going to say 'uh uh' and block the playing of any DVD in any drive - unless it matches the region setting that's restricting the use of the internal drive? If this is the case then it's game over for any ext drive options.
    2. If an external drive is an option, will I be limited (like the internal drive) to a max number of region code changes? In which case I could just buy 3 ext DVD drives and only use each one for a specific region - but again...is this an option - don't know......i.e. will the OS stop me using multiple ext drives or will it see each one as different and therefore not care.
    3. If I can find a multi-region external DVD drive - that would be the best option, but would it work? i.e. could I use it as a single external DVD drive without having to change the region....i.e. back to square one, if this was the case then it's not really an option but it would be the simplest if it were possible.
Any advice/ Assistance or guidance would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply
I do use VLC player however since the dvd player has been locked to its last region change of region 1, it won't read dvd's other than region 1. I would like to reset the dvd player back to region 2 as the majority of my DVD's are region 2, and i use "Front Row" a lot which uses the dvd player app.
I have tried to copy the DVD using mac the ripper but i get a message saying that the disk has bad sectors. However if i try copying it on my powerbook (whih is set to region 2) it works fine. It makes me think that the dvd drive won't read any disk properly unless it is set to the corresponding region. I may be wrong though.
Although changing my drive to a region free drive is a good idea i am worried that it may void my warrenty, and because the machine is so new i would prefer not to do this. But as a last resort i would consider doing so, however i havent managed to find any region fre firmware for the drive. The specs are as follows:
    Model: MATSHITADVD-R UJ-846
    Revision: FA0G
    Serial Number:
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
if anyone knows where to get one that would be very helpful
    thanks very much

  • Error 70001 when changing DVD region (changes still allowed)

I still have allowable DVD region changes left on DVD player, but when I try to apply a region change, error message 70001 appears.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem? I've looked on various online forums and tried using VLC - but this doesn't work - and used MacTheRipper to no avail either.

Are you sure the DVD is region 1 ONLY? You can't always trust the label. I have a three DVD boxed set that says region 1. One of the DVDs is multiple region.

  • Can't change DVD region for the last time?

I wish to change the DVD region setting on my emac and have one more left from the 5 changes allowed but when I try to change it, it comes up with an alert along the lines of "There was a problem changing the region on your drive." How can I resolve this? It is a newish 1.25ghz Superdrive model.
PS. Someone commented here that perhaps the count of how many changes have occurred is incorrect? If so, how can I fix that? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2279627&#2279627
Also, the error doesn't seem to suggest I need to use a single-region DVD to set the new region as per here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=31304

I also am having this problem, was told to restart and hold down Alt Apple, P & R at the same time and wait for 3 dongs, and try to change region again, but did not work, I am stuck on region 1 need to change to region 2, the same problem it will be the last change.

  • Unable to change DVD Region

    Hello
We've had a Lenovo G550 2958 laptop for about a year now and only recently tried to play a DVD on it. I had a message to say that it couldn't be played as it's a region 2 DVD (which it is) and this is a region 1 machine. The system then gives me the option to change the region and I select UK (Region2), but I get a message saying that its unable to do this.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks

how many times you changed the region before?
also, make sure you have admin privileges.

  • Microsoft Windows : Changing the region settings using browser.

    Hi,
We have a jsp page which has a drop down list and a textbox. It has 3 languages namely, English, French, Spanish, Hindi and Tamil.
If a user select French, the region should automatically changed and if the user type some thing in the text box next to drop down, he should see the characters in French, same way for all the languages.
We are trying to achieve this on the client side. We are trying to implement this using JSP Page,
Is there any way to achieve this or Do we have to include any VB Script.
Please reply back if you have any suggestion.
    Thanks,

I had the same issue - all VIs in English, but DAQmx and its subVIs were in German.
I completely uninstalled/reinstalled LabVIEW and the issue persisted.  I'm running LabVIEW 2014 (14.0, 32-bit) on Windows 8 64-bit, and I have another system running the LabVIEW 2014 on Windows 7 64-bit affected by the same issue.  All possible language and region settings on both computers are English (United States).
I was able to fix the issue by downloading the newest standalone DAQmx software (14.5 at time of writing this)
    http://www.ni.com/download/ni-daqmx-14.5/5212/en/
and just let it do a typical installation, over my current software, without uninstalling anything specific.  Everything seems to be fixed now - hope this helps someone else.

  • Final channce to change DVD region fails

My current DVD region setting is 1 and I want to change it to 2. I know I have one last chance to do this and when I insert a region 2 DVD I get the dialogue box telling me it:
"This is the last time you can change the drive region code".
When I click on "set drive region" I get the following error message:
"There was a problem chnging the drive region code. Error: -70001"
Can anyone help me? I know for sure I have one more chance to change the code and as I live in Europe I really need it to be code 2,
    Thanks.

    Hi Michael-

It seems that many region 2 DVDs are region 4 as well. According to this poster, you need to find a region 2 DVD that is region 2 ONLY so that the drive can fix on that region.
I used to feel that it was fair that we were only allowed 5 region code changes, but since moving country I now have a ton of both region 1 and region 2 DVDs. I'm frustrated that my computer only lets me play some of my legally purchased films.

  • Satellite X200-25H Changing DVD regions

I have a Satellite X200-25H laptop and I need to change my DVD region from 2 to 4 as I now live in Australia, but when I try to do that, my computer tells me to insert 'media' What does that mean exactly and what do I need to do to be able to view Australian DVD's?
    Message was edited by: WendyS

What you have suggested makes sense, however it's not working for me. I put in a region 4 DVD and it tries to do something, but then comes back with the same message that I need to insert appropriate media before making the change. I then thought that there might have been a problem with the drive itself, but it plays CD's okay, it just has a problem with DVD's. Any other suggestions?

  • Changing DVD Regions

If I can play a DVD in Region2/Pal, how do change the DVD region in a MacBook Pro drive?
    Thank you

"Changing the region code of a DVD drive
"Most DVDs are assigned a region code that corresponds to a geographic area, to help motion picture studios control the worldwide release of movies. The first time you play a DVD with a region code, you may be asked to set the DVD drive to match that code; DVD Player is restricted to playing only discs with that same region code or with no region code. If you insert a DVD that uses a different region code, a dialog appears asking you if you want to change the DVD drive’s region code.
"IMPORTANT:You can change the region code of a DVD drive only five times (including the original setting); the fifth setting is permanent. Don’t change the region code of a DVD drive unless you expect to play only DVDs that match the new region code in the future.
To change a DVD drive’s region code:
"In the dialog, choose a new region code setting for the DVD drive."

  • Change DVD region on external DVD Player

I have a DVD player that was set to region 1. It now is not. It says that I have 3 DVD region changes left (yeah, I know you only get 5). I don't know how it changed to a different region, but now I need it to change back to region 1, so I can watch movies again. I have a samsung external dvd player. Any suggestions?

    Hi V
Yes there are several possible origins to this:
    • burning the DVD with x16 speed often gives so much errors that they doesnt work
    • using a cheap brand - same
    • wrong type of DVD
    • to little free space on internal (start-up) hard disk
    1. I make a DiskImage then use Toast™ to burn with x1 speed (one can use Apple Disk Util tool to do this - in iDVD08 one can select burn-speed)
    2. I use Verbatim DVD-R
    3. I use -R no +R or +/-RW disks
    4. iDVD needs 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. 10Gb might work but slow.
<5Gb if it reaches to goal - most probably an useless DVD disk is the result.
    Yours Bengt W
