Changing Enter key (not Return key) to Option?

I'm left-handed and I use the Illustrator as my main application. I am constantly using the option key in combination with the track pad. Unfortunately, the Option key is on the left side only of MBP's keyboard which causes me to have to contort into impossible, and counter-productive, positions. Can I some how re-map the Enter key to be an Option key like on my G5's keyboard?

Hi Billy,
Double Command is great as you seem to already found out. If you have selected 'System' for your remap, make sure that you disable it before OS software updates, i.e. 10.4.8 etc.
See my Cautionary Tale!
Have fun!

  • Need SP to prompt user before ADDING document on hitting Return Key

    Our client is moving from legacy system to SAP B1. Legacy system has extensive use of hitting ENTER Key (or return key).
    Client is concerned that users will habitually hit enter key and cause accidental creation of documents.
    Would someone be able to provide me with a store procedure that pop up  a message on documents such as Sales, Purchase, Delivery and GRPO on hitting ENTER key  - a message for example "Hit Enter Key again to Confirm".
    Thank you community!

    SP_TN is the only legitimate SP can be used in B1. This SP can only block document creation.
    System has built-in function to display confirmation messages. You have to click twice enter (return) key to add a document. Train users to check every message before they try to hit second enter key. They will use to new system soon.
    Thanks,
    Gordon

  • Return key only inputs "b$"

    Howdy,
    I think my phone caught the flu.  A couple of weeks ago many of the buttons would only return "b$," including the alt key, the return key, and some of the letters.  As you can imagine, trying to type  "Hi, how are you doing?" and it popping out "Hb$b$n how are you dob$ng$v" is really obnoxious.  I restarted  and took the battery out of the stupid thing a million times, and it didn't get better.  Then one day it was just started working again.  Now, a couple of weeks later, the alt key and the return key are doing it again. Has anyone come upon this before and does anyone know how to fix it?
    It is an curve 8310, with google maps, weatherbug, gmail, facebook and the WSJ app installed.
    Thanks in advance,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    There is very likely no chance that it is a software issue.
    There is a slight chance that it is a hardware issue. If you are sure of this, return it for a warranty replacement.
    There is a higher chance that it is a moisture issue. Only because I have seen this same problem too many times before.
    Dry it out. In 3-5 days you will know for certain. If I am wrong, nothing is lost.
    If it is some moisture damage and you don't dry it out, the device can be lost.

    when using apple bluetooth keyboard with iPad, hitting the enter/return key while typing in iMessage only adds another line not 'send' the message? is there a setting to change that somewhere?

    Everywhere that I've checked it is not possible to do this. I would like to even do this using the vkb. I hate having to stretch my thumb all the way up just to send a message. It's messaging, not a report or email. Seems backwards. Hopefully some day Apple can add this option.

    Hi silvano,
    If you use a regular pattern when entering values, press enter (return) after entering the last value in a row. That will take you to the first Body Cell of the next row.
    Start in Cell B2
    1 Tab 2 Tab 3 Enter
    4 Tab 5 Tab 6 Enter
    7 Tab 8 Tab 9 Enter
    Now you are ready to type into B5 .
    Another way that some people find easier is to enter one column at a time
    Start at B2
    1 enter
    4 enter
    7 enter
    etc.
    Now start with C2.
    Use whatever suits your work flow.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • OneNote 2013: Font changes when pressing Enter / Return key

    I have the same problem as this guy (who didn't get a relevant answer): http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/233833f7-dde8-414d-bdca-604ed8d57667/onenote-2013-font-changes-when-pressing-enter-return-key?forum=officeitpro
    I set my default to Calibri 14, but every time I press enter (I make a lot of bullet lists) the font changes to Calibri 11.

    Hi,
    Did you change the default font after you typed a few words in a note container?
    Setting the default font in Microsoft Office OneNote affects text that you type in new note containers only. It does not affect existing text or text that you add to existing note containers.
    If you want to change the font in an existing note container, you need to change it manually under
    Home tab > Basic Text.

    Hello Damyanology,
    If your enter key is not working but you have to use it, you can bring up the on screen keyboard, and that will allow you to use enter.
    Here is a link to open the on screen keyboard.
    Go into device manager and uninstall the keyboard and restart the computer. This should reinstall the driver to correct the problem.
    Here is a link to uninstall in device manager.
    Let me know if this helps.

  • Blue "Change" button does not respond to enter key (OS X)

    After entering a new Time in the "Edit Capture Time" screen you select change and the new time is applied. This could be done by selecting the "change" button with the mouse or by hitting the return key or the enter key (since "change" is the blue highlighted button). But in Lightroom 3 and now in Lightroom 4B the enter key doesn't work. Can you please fix this bug. Thanks!

    Just to be sure, I updated the program as follows. Click on the mouse to request focus and then hit enter key.
    Click on the mouse prints the String "enter key pressed". Then press the Enter key..no action activated.
    var button : SwingButton;
    Stage {
    title: "MyApp"
    visible: true
    scene: Scene {
    width: 100
    height: 100

    button.requestFocus();
    onKeyPressed : function(event : KeyEvent):Void
    println("enter key pressed");

  • Enter key not producing hard returns

    Suddenly, my enter key is producing soft returns instead of hard returns. After trying to fix it for hours, I found out that hard returns are produced only with the alt+enter keys. Somehow they are reversed. What can I do?

    To enable the enter key one uses shift+return and that gives you a soft return. If you want a hard return just press the return key.

    Hi s.darge,
    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    If some keys are not working on your MacBook, this test can help to isolate the cause:
    Some keys don't work as expected
    From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    From the View menu, choose Speech.
    Click the Text to Speech tab.
    If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
    Click the Universal Access pane in System Preferences, click the Keyboard tab.
    Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
    In the Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sure Mouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, see Unable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
    If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys.
    If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
    Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
    Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
    Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
    From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
    If the keyboard is connected and detected by Mac OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.
    Start from the Mac OS X Install Disc, choose Terminal from the Utilities menu and test the keys which were previously not working.  If the keys work while started from the Install disc, then the keyboard itself is working correctly.  Use Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue to isolate the software issue that may be causing the keys to not respond.
    You can find the article with these steps here:
    One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond

  • Arrow keys and enter key not functioning in Firefox 3.6 when viewing PDF

    I'm using Adobe Reader 9.3.0.
    I have a web application that displays PDFs (using Adobe Reader) in a browser.  The PDF is loaded onto the page inside an IFRAME.  In addition to the IFRAME containing a PDF, the page also includes several forms, text fields, etc. For the most part this is working fine.  However, I have a glitch when using this in Firefox 3.6. I'm finding that certain keyboard events are being lost and I strongly suspect that they are being swallowed by Adobe Reader.  When I place focus on an HTML text field and press enter key or arrow keys, I do not get the appropriate key events.  If I run the exact same test without the PDF IFRAME these key events work correctly, but as soon as I load the PDF into the IFRAME they do not.  I believe the primary key event that gets lost is the keydown event.  I do get the keyup event.
    Again, the events work correctly up until I load the PDF onto the page.
    I've verified that this error does not occur in Firefox 3.5 and 3.0.
    Here is a testcase to reproduce this:
    <html>
    <head>
        <title>JavaScript - Detecting keystrokes</title>
        <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">

    Paste the above into an HTML document.  Open the HTML document in Firefox 3.6.  Check the four checkboxes.  Move into the text field and press arrow keys and enter key to observe the results when it is working correctly.  Then click on the "Now Load PDF" link.  Press the arrow keys and enter key again and observe that the behavior has changed.
    Anybody have any idea why this is happening or how to work around it?

    I found a workaround!
    By using an object tag instead of an iframe, all the keys seems to work fine and the PDF still renders in the page the same way.
    Here's a page that works:

                    x[i].onclick = setEvents;

  • Enter and shift keys not working. HELP!!!

    A few days ago my mouse started behaving erratically all of a sudden. It would move by itself, click apps, and switch tabs rapidly all on its own. I've had this computer for over 2 years and this has never happened before. Restarting and rebooting into safe mode didn't work, but one user suggested a PRAM reset and that fixed the mouse problem. However, my enter and shift key on the right side do not work now (this is much less annoying than the mouse problem, but still very inconvenient!). Restarting the computer and doing another PRAM reset doesn't work unfortunately. I also used the keyboard viewer to confirm that all but those two keys work. I don't think the issue is with keyboard lint because both keys worked fine before I tried the reset. Booting up in safe mode also doesn't fix the problem. It would be great if I could find a way to fix this here since I won't be able to go to an Apple genius bar until December!

    Hello sandi3s,
    The troubleshooting detailed below may help restore functionality to your MacBook Pro's keyboard.
Click the Accessibilty or Universal Access pane in System Preferences, then click the Keyboard tab.
    Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
    In the Accessibilty or Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sure Mouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) • Return Key doesn4t make my defined KEY-ENTER trigger to fire.

    I4ve found that the trigger that fires when I press Return is KEY-NEXT-ITEM,but this doesn4t resolve my problem,because the tab key also fires this trigger.
    I want to navigate within textitems with the tab key and that when I press return key make an action on the values entered in the items.
    mila, PJR

    You have to perform key mapping to get the Key-Enter trigger to work.
    Open your forms90\fmrweb.res file in a text editor. Find the line:
    10 : 0 : "Return" : 27 : "Return"
    Change it to:
    10 : 0 : "Return" : 75 : "Return"
    Save the file and run the form again. The key-enter trigger should then fire when you press the Return key, but not when you press the Tab key.

  • InDesign CS5 - Enter and Return keys give unexpected results

    I've been using CS5 for just a few days (Mac Pro, Mac OS X 10.6.3). I've noticed that the Enter and Return keys aren't always behaving as expected. Enter doesn't give me a column break, shift-Return doesn't give me a line break but a new paragraph, and more often than not I can't select the default option in a dialog with either Return or Enter. I've just read cpsid_84345, which says this is an issue in German and Swedish language versions, but I'm using English. The 7.01 update doesn't seem to be available. Any advice?

    That the KBSC files are XML doesn't guarantee faultless migration from one version to the next, probably because Adobe just forgot to cope with importing KBSCs from previous versions. It's great that InDesign offers you such flexibility with the KBSCs, but it's terrible that the implementation has been so sloppy in at least the three last versions (maybe earlier versions, too, but I try to repress the memories).
    Some people have been asking Adobe to make KBSCs scriptable. This would enably you to maintain a small database with KBSCs which a script could read and feed into a new version of InDesign, or redo a KBSC file after it has become corrupt, or whatever minor or major mishap.
    The more people ask for this the better: go to http://www.adobe.com/support/feature.html and request script access to the KBSCs.

    If the keyboard is connected and detected by OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window.
Use How to troubleshoot a software issue to isolate the software issue that may be causing the keys to not respond.
    One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond
