Changing exif: time

Hello to everybody,
Being new in this forum, I would like to introduce myself as an photo-fan working regular with Aperture. That does not mean, I know that program in all details.
So here is my first question: in mobile me, I published my fotos in a gallery. A friend uploaded his photos as well. Now I recognised, that fotos are not in correct order. Error was on my side, since my time settings in my 5D where 1 hour too early, e.g. 10.30 where it should have been 11.30.
I filtered now all my 5D pictures - but how can I edit time settings now ?
BR,
Henri

Found the solution!
Very easy:
Go in "Metadata"
Select "Change Date and time"
Adjust the time setting
Very intelligent: if you choose e.g. 60 pics, Aperture applies a relative time change, e.g. 2h and 40m are added to all pictures. Mighty feature to get fotos from different users with different time settings in right order.
Regards, Henri

  • Change of time stamp on RAW thumbnails

    I have PSE 9.0. I shoot in RAW on a Canon 550D and a Canon G10.
When I open a RAW file in editor, whether or not I edit that file, it changes the time stamp on the thumbnail by 1 hour. If I open it twice it changes the time by two hours, eg from 1.10pm to 2.10pm to 3.10pm. Of course, when I then re-open the Organiser, these thumbnails are out of order as shot.
I have no idea why this is happening. Is there some setting I need to change?

I think unlike jpeg files where the EXIF data will be embedded in the file Adobe will read the XMP data for Raw Files.
You can open an image in Full Edit and click File >>File Info to bring up the XMP dialog. The raw tab offers a wealth of information.
However the behavior you are experiencing seems odd and there looks to be a bug in the most recent update.
As you say it alters the order of photos from their original sequence. I think Adobe could introduce File Name Order as they do in Bridge. This would be a useful alternative for sorting files in the organizer.

  • Batch-change date (time)...

I know you can batch-change the date in iPhoto, and there's the option to add X seconds between each photo, but what I need to do is change the time by XX seconds/hours. Basically, this weekend we had two camera shooting a trip we were on. I thought both cameras were synched (clocks) but one camera was off by 12 hours (it was on AM when should have been PM). So, I need to add 12 hours to each photo for the 1 camera. Is there any way to do this via a batch (ie. not manually going through each of the 150+ photos and setting the time) so when I make an album of shots from both camera, sort by date/time, they synch up.
If there's no way to do this in iPhoto, could anyone suggest another application that could do this before importing into iPhoto?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

Rather than start a new topic, I'm going to just refer to this one since it's recent and exactly the issue I was trying to solve. My situation is that I bought a new camera in January and still had 2006 on my mind, so all the pictures I've taken this year are off by a year. I used PhotoInfo to change the EXIF data folder by folder in my iPhoto Library folder (by this I mean I had to batch change every folder in Originals/2007 and Modified/2007). 2 folders didn't take the changes, but that's another issue for a different forum.
Most of my pictures now have the correct EXIF data, however iPhoto doesn't show the correct info when I select the menu item Photos>Get Iinfo. Doing some searches here says that the only way to update iPhoto is to reimport the photos with the new EXIF data. My question is how do I do that without screwing everything up? I have originals and modified versions of files that are affected. How do I bring them back in such that if I use the Revert to Original command in the contextual menu that the modified files are still correctly linked to the originals?
A secondary question is whether iPhoto is really the program I want to use. Most of my major changes I make using Photoshop. Recently after making changes in Photoshop as well as a few minor tweaks in iPhoto (I don't remember which order) when I tried to revert to the original it no longer existed. It reverted to a modified file (modified in PS or iPhoto, don't remember which). Since then I've been making a duplicate in iPhoto and then modify that one in PS as well as iPhoto. However, after making modifications in PS I have to save it as a JPG in order to keep it organized with all my photos in iPhoto. It would be nice to keep a PSD copy filed along side it. Should I be using something else besides iPhoto that handles EXIF information and changes seemlessly as well as JPG and PSD (and probably RAW in the future)?
Thanks in advance for any info/tips.

  • Changing date/time ...

I have a question about changing date and time ... thanks a lot in advance.
I have .CR2 files and I want to change the "date time original" info ... I want to change this info in the raw file, so I clicked on the "write date or time changes to into proprietary raw files" check box in the catalog settings window ... and then, after changing date/time with the "edit capture time", Lightroom wants to save changes and after clicking the arrow on the thumbnail, it creates a sidecar file. If date/time changes is to write directly into raw file (because of catalog settings indicated above), why does Lightroom create sidecar .xmp file?

There are two things going on here.
    1. When you change the capture date/time (Date Time Original), the change is immediately reflected in the EXIF portion of the Metadata panel in the Library module. Because this is a metadata change, the warning arrow appears on the thumbnail (if you have that set to show in the View Options)....and clicking on that arrow brings up the "Metadata changed, do you want to save to disk" dialog. Note that this happens when you do any kind of metadata change, not just changing the date/time. At that point you can either decide to write the metadata to disk, or not.....if you typically write your metadata changes to XMP I guess you'd say "Save", but if you don't then just ignore it. Of course if you say "Save" then Lightroom will do as requested and write the Metadata, if it's a DNG,JPEG,TIFF etc, the Metadata is written to the XMP section of the file header....but if it's a proprietary RAW then it's written to an XMP sidecar.
    2. The second thing is that if you have the option set in the Catalog Settings to write date/time changes into proprietary raw files, then the change that you make is reflected in the Raw file.....this is a different change to the XMP update.

  • Need to batch reset iPhoto pic time to EXIF time

    Hi gang,
I have found a bunch of old pics in my iPhoto library that don't have the correct time assigned to them.  For example, a pic taken at 5 PM is listed in iPhoto as having been taken at 8PM.  If I "Reveal in Finder", then open the pic in Preview, the EXIF time is correct (5PM).
Is there a way to have iPhoto reset pic times back to the original EXIF time?  I found some old scripts (Joe's iPhoto Applescripts), but they look quite out of date.  I would be anxious running them on my current library.
    I am using iPhoto 11 (v9.4.2).
    Cheers!

I'm not sure how you have changed the date/time in iPhoto - but using smart albums you can identify photos form a specific camera - or many other attributes
in Events view the default sore is by date/time so I would expect the problem photos to be grouped together  --  and in Photo view you can select several different sorts and by truning off show event titles you can view all of your photos as a single group
I'm not clear on whart you found or what you are expecting but the way to modify the contents of the iPhoto database is to only use iPhoto to do it - never make any changes of any sort directly to the files in the database

  • Printing Problems with Elements 8.0 and EXIF time data

I've been using Premiere Elements 8.0 in Windows XP Professional for a couple of years with no problems. I shoot mostly in JPEG. I've always imported my images using a card reader (the same one). About a year ago suddenly I ran into printing issues. When I imported my images and tried to print them Elements crashed just at the point where it should begin the actual printing.  By chance I discovered that if I adjusted the time EXIF on the images in Elements by either hours or days, back or forward and adjusted them back to the original time/date the problem disappeared. If I had shot in RAW and edited these images there were no problems with the resultant JPEG.
I noted the discussions about Elements changing the time in the EXIF and checked for this but this hadn't happened. The EXIF in camera and in Elements were the same. I also checked this against the time settigs of the camera and they were the same. I shoot with a Nikon D300.
I backed up my images and did a complete re-format of my computer so that it was back to its ex-factory settings, re-installed Elements, restored my catalog from the backup and the problem still arose. I'm reluctant to upgrade to Elements 10 until I (hopefully) I find out  if (a) anyone else has the same problem; and (b) if anyone who had it has fixed it.
Any ideas would be very welcome.

    Miceal,
I am confused. Do you mean Photoshop Elements? Premiere Elements does not have a Print function. On can Export/Share, but not Print. For Photoshop Elements, you will want the PSE Forum.
    Good luck,

  • EXIF time adjustment extension

Currently LR allows only for some kinds of time adjustments in selected sets of images, but in situations in which more than one person, or more than one camera are being used in the same event, the problem is often that the time recorded by the cameras might be off sync in relation to each other.
I would like to suggest an extension to deal with this type of situations. I would like to be able to say something to the effect: Image A1234.raw Camera A was shot after B3456.raw camera B. LR should than take the exif times from A1234 and B3456 and find out the time offset to be applied on A1234, or even on a selected set of images made with a camera A.
Currently I use Exiftool to do it manually, throw all images out from LR and reimport them after the EXIF adjustment, because "sync folder" does not reflect changes done to exif time by Exiftool..

There are several known bugs relating to the way LR handles the time and date fields.

  • EXIF time difference once images imported into Organizer in PSE8

I have been frustrated for a very long time and did some reading on the web - The solution: Sorry it is a bug
in PSE* and cannot be fixed!!!!!
The problem: Once I have imported images into PSE8 Organizer the EXIF time is converted to exactly two hours earlier, i.e. to GMT whereas I am at GMT+2. Note that the time on my Canon 7D and my computer (on windows 7) are correct!!!!!! If I do not use organizer, I do not have the problem!
From what I have read it is a bug in PSE and there is no permanent fix, but really.... How can Adobe not solve the problem?
Will it help if I purchase another copy of PSE8, is there a PERMANENT fix available and if so, what?
I am really frustrated, as I want to use the organizer, but cannit do it as the time is of great importance to me in my wildlife photography!!!!
    Anyone?
    Rudi

Wonderful! This EXIF standard, 2.2, http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins/acrobat/en/service/digCam/exifStandard2.pdf explains to me that the original form of the material digitized could be a "slide", "paper", "map" and so forth; so it's a standard for many types of digital still "cameras", not just a standard for typical, portable consumer cameras. EXIF time recording is first described on page 55.
Most of the time (or all of the time for me?), in Lightroom, the "date time original" and "Time Date digitized" has been the same and changing the original date will obviously (?) change the digitized date, too.
    Thanks!
PS: re-reading my post, I don't want anyone to think I was really getting RAW data from my Sony. It's a great little pocket camera but it only produces JPG's.

  • What does "Exif Time Stamp Error" mean?

    Hi there,
could anyone be so kind and explain to me the meaning / impact of the "Exif Time Stamp Error" that was introduced in the 1.4 update for lightroom?
I imported about 200 pics yesterday and converted let them be converted to the DNG format automatically.
Actually I did not see any errors or strange behaviours. Will this change when working with these pics? Do I have to take some kind of countermeasure?
    Kind regards,

    Dear Franz,
thank you for your post but I already read through this text and after I did not get the point (maybe because of my by far not perfect English) I did search the forums. But I did not find any furher explanation.
    There I wrote this post.
So, as a special rule, sometimes people do use the search and really need help. ;-)

  • How to change "capture time" of multiple photos to a specific time?

    Hi guys,
For some reason I'm trying to change "capture time" of multiple photos to a specific time.
I know that there is "Edit Capture Time" feature under Metadata.
But when I try to edit multiple photos, it says that "Modify the capture time stored in the selected photos by entering the correct time adjustment for the photo displayed to the left. Other photos (but not vidieos) will be adjusted by the same amount of time". And it really does.
    For example,
    If A file's capture time is 1/11/2011
    B file's capture time is 1/11/2012
    C file's capture time is 1/11/2013
I would like to change their capture time to 1/11/2014. All the three files.
But the current "Edit Capture Time" feature of Lightroom just adds three years to each file like this:
    A file's capture time -> 1/11/2014
    B file -> 1/11/2015
    C file -> 1/11/2016
So their capture times remain as different ones. And this is not I want...
    What should I do?
I've googled a lot and tried several programs other than lightroom as well, but the "Capture time" recognized by lightroom could not be changed by other programs.
I would greatly appreciate your help.

    That's why I posted this.
Sorry - I didn't see where you'd mentioned that you'd chosen the correct option, so I thought best to rule that out first.
Anyway, it sounds like a bug, which can be reported here:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/products/photoshop_family_photoshop_lightro om
In the mean time, you can use exiftool, or try your luck with the exif-write function of the exif-meta plugin, e.g.:
Note: if you use exiftool, you need to save metadata first, make the change, then read metadata in Lightroom, otherwise capture-time changes will be ignored by Lr.

  • Can I switch calendars (Ex. "night shift" to "day shift" cal) with a repeating event, but ONLY for that one event??  It asks "for all events or only this event" if i change the time.  But it changes ALL events when i try and switch calendars.  Any help??

I have 2 calendars set up for my work schedule, a "night shift" and "day shift" calendar.  I've set up repeating events fro Fri/Sat/Sun 3-11pm "night shifts" and Mon/Tues 7am-3pm "day shifts".  But lets say for example that I swap shifts and instead of working nights on Saturday like I normally would, I am now working days.  I want to change that in my calendar.  When I go to change the event, if i change the TIME it asks if i want to change all event or ONLY this event.  no problem....just this single event.  but when i go to change the event from the "night shift" calendar to the "day shift" calendar, it changes ALL the repeating events, and not just that one single event.   can anyone help with this???  am i doing something wrong?  is there a way to do this or not with the new iCal program???  i used to do this and never had any problems.    Thank you!

You need to follow iPhoto terms since we only know what you tell us
what are you calling folders - in iPhoto folders can not hold photos - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders
The basic default view of photo is by event (iPhoto '08 and later)
Exactly what you you trying to do?

You need to add that attribute using the config tool for your view configuration. Select the attribute All Day from the context node BTDATE in the available fields to your display field and then save it. It should now be visible in your UI and now you can select or uncheck it to make the time field enable. Check the below image

  • Process Chain changing start time?

hi guysm i have 76 process chains that run every day in BWD system, so i removed all the timings from the start variant and in the infopackages, but it seems some process chains are still running, i did do the following steps on chnaging the time from a particular time to immediate, Save, Check and activate, i didnt schedule it as i dont want it to load right away .
do i have to hit check , save , schedule once i change the time from a particular time to immediate load or activate will work as well.?
what else could be the cause of process chains still loading even there are no events, or time given to any process chains at all.
i went to sm 37 and i can see the bi process are all running at the time they were orignially set up on.
    so any suggestions would help,
is there any way from sm 37 i can tell which process chain is triggered off?
    thanks
    Dante(devils never cry)

Dante, the start conditions on the infopackages do not affect when they run in process chains.  The process chains have their own start job.  If you want to change the start time of a process chain, then you need to go to maintain the process chain, right-click on the Start process and select Displaying Scheduled Job(s)... .  Here you will see a job called BI_PROCESS_TRIGGER.  Change the start conditions of this job.
The start job for all process chains is BI_PROCESS_TRIGGER, so using SM37 may be difficult to identify which BI_PROCESS_TRIGGER job is associated to a particular chain.
Also, to let you know, each process in a process chain has an associated job.  All jobs called BI_PROCESS_xxxxx are jobs associated with a process chain.
    Eg.
    BI_PROCESS_LOADING is an infopackage.
    BI_PROCESS_TRIGGER is the start job
    Does this help?

  • How can I prevent the settings on iMessage from changing each time I sync the devices with iTunes on our iMac?

Each time I sync an apple device (iPad, iPad mini, iPhone) with iTunes on our iMac the settings on iMessage and phone settings change. We use the same Apple ID and have different e-mail addresses and phone numbers; however, each time a device is sync'd on iTunes on our iMac, the iMessage settings and phone settings are changed so that we all each get each other's text messages and phone calls. After the device is sync'd/charged, I have to go into each device (all of them somehow update when only one is sync'ing) and re-set the settings to what we want. How can I prevent settings from being changed each time?

Okay I've tried safe mode.  Let it run down to 98%, plugged it in, locked the screen, and waited.  A few minutes later, the screen came on showing the 100% icon at the top right, full battery icon just to the left of the time, 100% text to the left of that.
I'm not going to do a hard reset until I have confirmation that this is not normal behavior for the phone because that's going to take hours of my time and gigabytes of data transfer to get all of my media and apps back on the phone and configured.
After all my griping, I do have to give credit where it's due.  This phone is much more efficient than my Galaxy Nexus.  I left the S5 running in WiFi hotspot mode while on battery last night.  It still had over 50% left on the battery.  The Galaxy Nexus would be stone dead after about 4 hours.  I can live with that if I have to but I'd really rather be able to leave it on the charger at night.
