Changing export folder hangs Lightroom

Hi!
When trying to change export folder a folder/place selection
dialog is displayed - which slowly keeps adding available locations
like my comuter, Network folder and so on...
After a while a login dialog for MS Passport is displayed
Why, I have no idear! After selecting cancel to the sign in dialog
Lightroom freezes up and I can only terminate it using the task manager.
Help please!

Long time since I used 09, but in 11 it defaults to the last used folder. Have you tried pointing it to the desktop and then seeing if the subsequent exports go there?
Failing that a couple of things: in any export dialogue command-d will point immediately to the desktop. For more elaborate and feature rich alternatives check out Default Folder X

Using 6-7 year old software that's no longer receiving updates & was never designed to run on 10.10 is asking for trouble.   That said, try re-installing PS and installing Java SE6

It might work.  But again it might not.

  • When exporting out of lightroom the color of my picture channges significantly

I use windows 8 and tried exporting out of lightroom through firefox and this did not help either

Hi Shmuglak.  Thank you for the information.  I tried those things but did not work.    I just got windows 8 and just downloaded photoshop CC and Lightroom from the cloud.   My settings in Lightroom under preferences are :   Under jpeg preview it is checked on fast load data.   Under external editing the color space is prophoto.   Under additional external editor it is set to preset (Custom).  Under Default Develop Settings the only thing checked is apply auto mix when first converting to BW.   Under export module:   Location:   set to same as original folder and no check mark on add to catalog.   Under Post Processing I have tried do nothing and tried firefox.
It is funny that when I export a picture from lightroom using firefox that picture  pops for preview and the picture looks fine but then when I go to my email and try to email that same picture and use send with a file attachment the picture looks aweful on my desktop but when looking at it on the ipad or iphone the picture looks fine.
Any other suggestions would be great
    thank you

I don't know if this is your case but I have a similar problem (and has been helped out by some kind soul on this forum). The change of color may happen if you are re-importing the exported pictures into the Lightroom catalog. If this is what you are doing, some import presets may be applied and this may cause the color change. I'm talking about this setting, sheck if it is enabled. If it is, disable it and see if it helps.

  • Changing Export Location when using Publish Services to Hard Drive?

    Hi,
I am aware that typically when using publish services it is not possible to change the export location once it has been set. This has put me in a very precarious situation; let me explain.
I work for a distribution company that sells 15+ product lines. For almost every product, they have a photograph. I was asked to set up a system whereby a number of sales representatives could access these photographs in an organized fashion from their own computers. This is how I have set things up: A media computer (backed up onto an external hard drive) has all the raw files. In lightroom I have set up two publish services to hard drive. The export location for these two publish services was an external drive that was accessible throughout the company network. Unfortunately, while I was gone, the external drive was changed over to a cloud-based system. As such, the export location for my publish services no longer exists.
Of course, I could go and re-create the publish services, but unfortunately that would be an incredibly laborious process because each publish service has 10 or so sets with 2-4 levels of folders amounting to several hundred folders that would need to be re-created. Moreover, because of the complexity of the system, I made them all smart-folders with specified attributes, etc. So re-creating all these folders would take a whole lot of time and could literally drive a guy crazy (I would know, I set the thing up and it did almost drive me crazy!)
So, I was wondering if there is any lightroom wiz out there who knows a work-around for my issue.
Now, I did do some digging already and I came across this article: http://blog.27shutterclicks.com/2012/03/how-to-change-the-publish-service-export-location- in-lightroom-3-4/    which outlines a method for changing the export location! However, as far as I can tell, I would still have to change the export location of each folder manually, which would basically be just as complex and confusing as recreating the publish service anyways. Am I correct in this thinking, or using this method is there a "root" folder than I can change, which will change every other folder?
Hopefully I have outlined this clearly enough. I will really appreciate any response! Thanks and have a good day.

Yes, it is not possible to change the export location for a Publish service.
But it is possible to set up another Publish Service with a different location.
Under <Publish Services> right-click the header bar where it says "Hard Drive: .... " and select <Create Another Publish Service via Hard Drive>.
    See screen shot:
In the editor that comes up select the "cloud" as location.

  • Exporting folder structure

    Hi all,
I'm a newbie to Adobe Lightroom. I have been playing with it and love it. However, I have one concern. I notice that changes you make in Lightroom are not applied to the original file, which has its obvious advantages. I also noticed that export will only move pictures into a single flat folder, i.e. there doesn't seem to be a way to tell it to export into a folder structure resembling the original one.
I am concerned that if, one day, I decide to move away from Lightroom, I will have to go through a very painful export process: either exporting every folder individually or having to recreate my original folder structure.
Is there any way to either:
    1. Tell Lightroom to export all pictures to the same folder structure as before, or
    2. Tell Lightroom to apply changes that you've made to the original image so that I can actually just use the original folder structure?
If this has been asked anywhere else, I apologize in advance, and please send me a pointer in the right direction. I looked in the forums, Google, and some FAQs and couldn't find an answer to this question.
    Thanks, Ed

This is another missed, conventional, standard, industry wide feature that defies explnation as to why it was left out. Add it to the list of inane I/O features (or lack thereof) in LR, and wait to see if it is fixed in the dot version.
While i don't use jpegs (well, very rarely, if a customer wants them), Lee Jay's suggestion is a good one, but I think there is an even better one. Make sure that your work in LR is written to either sidecars or files directly (dng, jpeg, or tiff). And, make sure that is very regularly backed up offline. That should insure that your work will not be lost--as you can always open it in Bridge or other metadata aware DAMS or editors should you decide to move from LR.
As for folder structure, that should be fully conceived and implemented outside of LR and imported--or modified and reimported when necessary. It will be faster in Bridge, for example, and you will avoid having to mess with the LR I/O mess--at least at this time. Hopefully, they will get all that standardized next time around.

  • How to Change the Folder Name in Workbook

    Hi there
I have a situation, I have created the workbook in existing folder (ORDER) in TEST business Area, now I have to move this report to another Business area (Custom) which has folder (Custom Order Folder), how can I change workbook folder name and item name, because my custom folder has different name.
    Like-- Original BA (TEST)
    ORDER (Folder)
    Item1
    Item2
    Item3
    Custom BA
    CUSTOM Order Folder
    Custom Item1
    Custom Item2
    Custom Item3
    Any help Appreciated.
    Thank
    ASIM

    Hi,
If you are able to export and delete the original folder, then you can rename the identifiers of the new folder to be the same as the original folderand then open the workbook so that it uses the new folder. If you save the workbook, then rename the identifiers and re-import the orignial folder then you should find that the workbook continues to use the new folder.
Otherwise take a look at this thread (Re: How to switch folder that report using form one to another? for a solution.

  • Problem removing folder from Lightroom

    HI,
I'm new to Lightroom (using 5) and I am trying to get some photo uploads organized. When I imported them, they came in a folder that was poorly organized so I moved them into folders that I preferred. That was fine. BUT now the original folder in lightroom is empty (I deleted from finder after emptying it) and when I remove it from my lightroom ALL the other folders go with it. The funny part is, the total picture count still shows that all the pictures are in lightroom and accounted for, but the folders are no longer there and accessible.
I have attached a screen shot of the folders. I would like to remove the 2014 folder at the top, but when I do, the desktop folder and everything under it goes as well. Why? And how do i prevent that from happening? THANKS!!
Ultimately, I would like to move the 2014 folder from being on the desktop as well.
    I

Your lack of tact was a little bit insulting, regardless of when it happened. No big deal though. I digress.
Since you cannot view folders in iTunes, you cannot delete folders thru iTunes.
You could put all the songs you want to delete into a playlist then select all the songs and Command Delete to delete them all at once.
That's the point. There should be an easier way. But putting them into a playlist before deleting them would be even more work than just deleting them the first time you click them. So this isn't really helpful either.
Ed's answer was helpful because he addressed the concerns of the original poster. But it also illustrated the need for iTunes programmers to include a feature to remove a folder from your iTunes library as easily as you can add them. If the best way to remove 200GB worth of music from your itunes library is to change the file extensions, then click to delete every single file with an exclamation point next to it; there is quite simply a flaw in design.
Apple iTunes programmers need to make the adjustment. Right next to the "File" command: "Add folder to library", you could have a command to "Remove folder from library."  Or a "Manage Library" option would be great. Itunes obviously knows what folders it's library consists of so why not allow it to populate a list of them with the option to deselect undesired folders? Why hasn't this been done in one of the numerous iTunes updates? Is it really that hard to understand?

  • Exporting photos from Lightroom in their original format

    Hi all,
My Lightroom library contains photos from multiple photographers. What I'd like to do is select all of a particular photographer's photos by choosing 'Creator' from the metadata browser and export the selection to a single folder. However, Lightroom's export options force me to chose from JPEG, DNG, TIFF or PSD formats. Most of them are JPEGs already; I don't want to recompress them again (or save them in an uncompressed format, which would be pointless). I just want to make a copy of the files as they exist in the library, without modifying them. Does anyone know if this can be done, and if so, how?
    Cheers,
    Nick

So far as dragging the file "out of" the Lightroom content area I think you'll find that it works the same way as Bridge (i.e. the sidecar does not travel with the original file). In the Bridge you need to use the Move To or Copy feature if you want the XMP sidecar to travel.
So... In Lightroom, how is it properly done then?
I shoot RAW only, and I have found occasion where I would like to collect a copy of the RAW files to give to someone else for editing. While I might be able to use the Windows Explorer, what am I supposed to do if the images reside in different directories? I can't export them because Lightroom doesn't let me export a RAW copy (in other words, I can't export a CR2 file and end up with a CR2 file outside of Lightroom), and I can't drag and drop them because 1: this doesn't work on Windows, and 2: the sidecars don't copy with the RAW files.
Thanks for the tips and info.

  • I try to drag a photo folder into lightroom 4 on my MAC, lightroom fails to open and a 'Corrupt Catalog Detected' screen pops up.  Clicking on 'repair catalog' does not work either.  Any suggestions?

I try to drag a photo folder into lightroom 4 on my MAC, lightroom fails to open and a 'Corrupt Catalog Detected' screen pops up.  Clicking on 'repair catalog' does not work either.  Any suggestions?

I'll have to get a better instructor on deleting the preferences since when I've doen it in the past nothing is there when I open LR the catalog is gone. I assumed that was what was supposed to happen so I start importing all over again.  But that is a different issue...
The problem has been happening since at least the beta of 3 came out and I saw other posts back then saying they had similar issues but I assume it was a beta thing...  But since the full version came out and through each incremental change I haven't seen an improvement. If anything it has gotten a little worse with time.
I have to try to be careful to not be in a hurry and start clicking around in the catalog as it seems fragile until it has cataloged all the photos in the library. When starting you will see the numbers populate the folders very slowly and I try not to click on a folder that hasn't had the number of photos pop up yet. Also draging the slider down to see more of the cataloge can have the same affect and crash the system.
I wish I had more to go on.. I believe it may be a resources issue but as I went from 3-4 Gig I thought it would get better. I don't have big programs running but did have outlook and word running in the background along with firefox and chrome.
And yes it only happens on this HP desktop (it's 2+ yrs old) and may be showing it's age a bit. My laptop which has less resources doesn't have the issue.. I have them sharing the catalog. (not at the same time) just when I'm working in other places in the house.

  • Export aperture to lightroom

Please help, I have wasted so many weeks and hours trying to Export my 44,000, 270 GB image library from Aperture over to Lightroom . It's a nightmare! Nothing works.
First I tried using the built in Aperture importer inside lightroom. It take 8 days to transfer 25% , then it crashed. I did see that it had preserved project structure and keywords. I was storing my masters on a separate toshiba 3.0 bus drive.
I then started a new catalog in Lightroom and tried all over again, this time with a Thunderbolt 2TB drive. The inbuilt aperture import plugin started off a lot more promising, much faster, but after 4 hours of only 5% it seemed to slow down. I cancelled the process. I hoped that I can break it down into smaller chunks by running the plugin again, hoping that Lightroom would be able to detect duplicates and not import them.
However, it did not let me run the plugin a second time.
I have now paid for and downloaded a third party programme called Aperture Exporter. When I ran it however, it seemed to come up with so many errors (not imported CR2 or mov files, for example) that it was hardly worth the try. Need my money back
The next thing I tried was just exporting one project (march photostream, with 800 images) to my desktop in a folder. That also seemed to have an error or two, but when I imported into LIghtroom, it seemed not to recognise that there was already a 2015 folder there, so it put the images losely in date subfolders, but not in the pre-existing year 2015! ARRGHHH!!!! So I don't think it recognised duplicates (but I'm not sure yet).
What am I to do>??? I just want my photos in one place!!! Not Photos, not Aperture, but LIGHTROOM!!!!
It should not be this difficult - i dont even care anymore about my aperture keywords, edits or anythihg - just the dates going into the right places so I can sort it all out again in Lightroom.
What is a CR2 file anyway.
Please help advise me on the workflow I should be following, which plugin I should try with again, or how to do it manually but quickly. I have very little time!!!

From an Aperture point of view this is quite simple: Export your images to the Finder, write any metadata you prefer to the images on export, at whatever setting you choose.
    https://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=21%26s ection=1%26tasks=true
    has details of that process.
All you say about Aperture problems is:
The next thing I tried was just exporting one project (march photostream, with 800 images) to my desktop in a folder. That also seemed to have an error or two,
I'm not sure what help you expect with a problem described as vaguely as "an error or two".
what to do about my workflow - should I be trying to export folder by folder from Aperture? Exporting Versions?
I exported project by project from Aperture. Then imported to Lightroom. There  is no right way, there is only the way that you want to do.
Same with exporting versions or originals. No right answer. It's what you prefer.
As for errors, what are they?

  • Export Folder Issues

When I right click on an image and select export a folder that I used once a couple of years and 2 LR versons ago keeps popping up as the export folder. I have repeateldy cleared the list but it keeps showing up. This doesn't happen when I use one of my preset. Is there a way to clear this folder out of the folder list permently?

Yes, i have observed this behavior.
If it bothers you really you could just change the name of the folder (in Lr in the folders panel!! - if you do it in Mac Finder / Win Explorer you have to re-link the folder - it will show the question mark!).
It doesn't bother me for this reason: Lr remembers the folder I last exported to. So in most cases I have to change the folder anyway.

  • Exporting photos to Lightroom

Why does iphoto 11 (using external editor option) export and open my photos in LIghtroom 4 after I upgraded to LIghtroom 5?

I am still a bit confused as to why iphoto gives you the option to edit in iphoto or use another application for external editing.
iPhoto is a database. It can't work on any image that's not imported to the database. If you want to use an image from iPhoto somewhere else, you have to export it.
Lightroom is a database. It can't work on any image that's not imported to the database. If you want to use an image from LIghtroom somewhere else, you have to export it.
These two apps live at exactly the same point in the workflow. In essence, they do the same job.
Neither application is an editor - in other words, neither application will edit a file. If you work on an image in either app the original file is not touched - it's always preserved - and to get your edited image you have to export it.
The external editor command in iPhoto (and indeed in LR) is designed for use with a app that actually edits the file. Photoshop, Acorn, Pixelmator, Graphic Converter, etc etc are examples of such apps. There's no database. They directly change the file.
So, when you use an external editor wth iPhoto here's what happens:
iPhoto makes a copy of the original and sends it to the editor. The editor edits and saves, and the edited image comes back to iPhoto. So you have the original preserved and the edited version.
If you send the image to another Manager, like LIghtroom, here's what happens: iPhoto makes a copy of the original and sends it to Lightroom. LIghtroom imports it. As you edit in LR the original is preserved and your decisions are recorded in the LR database. (Just like editing a photo in iPhoto). And then... well then there's no way back to iPhoto withou exporting from LR to the FInder and importing the resulting image, which then has no connection to the Original in iPhoto. You now have to copies of the original, one in each app.
So, there is no good way to use LR as an editor with iPhoto (nor, indeed, vice versa).

  • Exporting photographs from Lightroom Mac to Photoshop Elements Six Mac

I have Lightroom photographic software, running on a Mac i-book (with intel processor). I have been sucessfully and conveniently direcly exporting photographs from Lightroom to Elements 4, using the export button and choosing the 'Open in Elements 4' option in the post-processing option.
I have recently updated my photographic software to Elements 6 (for Mac). Everything seems fine but I am no longer able to see or introduce a post processing option when exporting from Lightroom that would allow me to open the photograph in Elements 6.
Could you please advise me how this might be achieved?
    Many Thanks
    S.J.A

In the export dialog go to Post processing. In the after export pop-up, choose "Open in Other application". Then click on the Choose button. Navigate to your app (probably somewhere in the Applications Folder) and select it. You should be able to select any app on your harddisk, including elements. You should also be able to set up Elements as a secondary editor by going to Preferences->External Editing. This will allow you to simply control-click on your image and select edit in ... and a copy will be created, added to the Lightroom database and sent off to your external editor. This way you won't have to go through all of the steps you go through now.

  • Fireworks not defaulting export to previously exported folder

In Adobe Fireworks for some reason I am not able to export files to previously exported folder, each time I export, I have to navigate to the previously exported path. This is something that was previously working.

    The short answer: no.
Lightroom remembers recently imported files in a collection, but does not remember recently exported files.
That said, you could use the SQLiteroom plugin (free, by me) to round up a collection of *all* exported files, which might help.

  • How do I clear a photo folder from lightroom after I have worked on one photo and am finished with particular folder

how to clear folder from lightroom after I have finished with working on one particular photo

I don't know why you would want to do that. You import images into Lightroom so that you can perform nondestructive editing. If you remove the images from Lightroom when you are "finished" with them then you will lose all of the work that you have performed on those images.
The idea is to keep the master images in the catalog and export JPEG files when the image needs to be shared with others.
