Changing fonts in Mail

Hi, can anyone tell me how to change fonts in MacMail when composing new messages?
Thanks,
Bob Tomsak

Did anyone solve this? I want to permantntly both the change the font and color of the font in all of my outgoing messages. I've managed to change the font and size, but the color is still basic black. So for every message I have to go to the menu bar, select font/color and change it. I'm on email just about 6 hours a day, and really, really don't want to have to do it this way. PLEASE - advice on permanent changes?
And what's with the "styles" button? There's no information on how to use anywhere that I've checked.

  • Can no longer change fonts in Mail messages

All of the sudden (within the last couple of days), I find I can no longer change the font - or even the style (bold, italic) of any new mail message. I can change the color, but that's about it. The font stays as whatever the default Message Font is. I did try changing the default to verify it was not a font corruption issue.
I don't think it's a font panel issue since I can change Fonts, Styles, etc. in other apps that use the Font Panel.
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks up front.

Some more tests .. it's definitely not the app itself .. I booted from my external .. and I launched the Mail app on my main .. and it worked fine (of course, all my accounts, etc weren't there) .. so you're right .. it's either a prefs thing (though not the "com.apple.mail.plist" file since opening a brand new user still has the same problem).. or maybe even a corrupt .pkg file in Receipts .. wait a sec .. replaced the Mail.pkg file just to check .. still nope. So it's gotta be something low level.
At this point, I'm thinking what may be easier on both of us is ... I'm waiting for the Apple Box Set (Leopard/iLife 09/iWork 09) to start shipping before I upgrade .. that should be pretty soon .. so I'll just hand on till then (it's really not all that big a deal I guess in the big picture .. just irritating) .. and see if upgrading corrects the issue .. if not, then I guess I'm off bug hunting again.
Again .. thanks ever so much for your time and effort.
I'll post back here with the results either way.

  • Cannot change fonts in Mail version 3.1

When I start a new message in mail, if I want to change the font I can't access the font tool either by selecting the font button in the outgoing message tool bar or by the drop down format menu ( or by "command T"). I can, however, go into preferences and change fonts universally. Basically if I cut and paste a sentence from another message or word doc into an outgoing mail message that is a different size or font and I want to make all the fonts the same, nothing happens, no font tool window appears.

I ran into the same issue yesterday and have tried to change the language from English to German. I have restarted iTunes as requested. The weird thing now is: The settings show German, but iTunes still is in English. I have then set the language to French and restarted iTunes and... It was French.... Then I put the settings back to German with the result that iTunes is Englich again. I have no solution and I am curious if this is a programming issue as it seems I am not the only one here from Germany.... Any ideas???

  • Mail - OSX Lion - Can't change font in mail list

OSX Lion seems incapable of changing the font in the mail list on the left side. The default is a horrendous, teeny tiny font. Going to Preferences > Fonts and Colors and choosing message list font reveals a font picker. All the other font settings work in this view except the message list font.
If you go to the "Classic" (aka ugly) view, your message list font changes work.
I am a big believer in software aesthetics, particularly in an app you are staring at all day.
Please, oh please, Apple tell me this is not a default behavior! At the very least, if is truly is impossible to change this, and the over-50 crowd must squint at mail all day, indicate somewhere in the prefs panel that this will not work in the new view.
I'm really hoping there's a solution for this. As cool as the new mail app is, this would be a deal breaker that would send me running back to Sparrow.

"changing the font in the mail list on the left side"
You can change the size of the font (just not the font type) here: Preferences - General - Sidebar icon size.

  • Can't change fonts in mail using preferences/select?

When I click select the font window comes up and shows the font I want to change. So then I choose another font and nothing changes.
    Thanks for your help,
    Cherzart

You probably have to select the text you want to change first.
But: the font that is seen by the recipient is determined by their e-mail client, not yours.

  • Change font in mail?

How can I change the font in my mail?

You cannot change the font (you can't change the fonts at all on the iPad) but you can format the Helvetica font for bold, underline and italics.
Select the type that you want to format - then tap the arrow on the right side of the options bar that pops up - that will take you to another options bar that has BUI on the left side. Tap that BUI (bold, underline, italics) and you can format the type for those options.

  • How to change font in Mail?

Can anyone explain how I can set up a default font and colour for my out going emails in Apple Mail? I do not wnt to have to manually do this everytime, am I missing something here?

I have spoken to Apple Support.... It cannot be done (although it should be an available feature)... very frustrating.. suggest everyone sends feedback to Apple asking for it... if enough people ask, maybe Apple will put this in as a feature...

  • How do I change the font in mail permantly

I can change the font in mail but it isn't permanent.  I am talking about composing E-mail.

I have a work around you might try.
Add a signature to your email account with whatever font you want. Two steps...like this.
    1. Create a new email message:
    2. Add a new signature (Mail -> Preferences -> Signatures) and Paste Clip Board into the new Signature editor:
    That's All Folks!
Now, when you create new messages, you should find that the format you are looking for is already setup. All you have to do is tweak the Name,
    Hope this helps!

  • Email will not let me change fonts all of a sudden.

Email will not let me change fonts all of a sudden.  It says I don't have the neccesay permissions in ~/library/preferences.  this has just happened recently.

    Who is your email provider?
You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears. Try again to see if the problem persists.
If yes, try deleting the mail account and adding it again.
