Changing Frame Padding On Image Sequence Exports, Media Encoder

Hello Adobe World,
I am using dynamic link from After Effects to Media Encoder and I am trying to export an image sequence with a specific numbering system for input into software code. Is there any way to change the frame padding or change the numbering system for Image sequence exports?
We are trying to speed up our workflow by Batch rendering from AME. AE does let us set our frame numbering and gives us an option for creating sub-folders (it's surprising the AE is much more organized in it's export options that AME). We need to be able to render more than one thing at a time and need to keep working in AE while the files are rendering. I have not found a workable background rendering plug-in for CC14. We could use AME if there is a way to fix the Number system.  We are working on a PC Windows 8. I can provide more system specs if it is necessary.
Side note: in AE we can use [#] to set the numbering value and in AME it does not work.
Thank you for your help!
Still looking for an answer on this.... it's been 2 months.... Adobe team? Anyone?

Change it to this?

  • Import Image Sequence in Media Encoder CS4?

    Hi all,
Is it possible to import an image sequence in Media Encoder CS4 to export it in FLV?
In the documentation, it's said in "File formats supported for import" that it supports jpg sequence (not png!?), but I don't know how to add an image sequence.
    Thanks

Sorry I meant, it doesn't look like can and I find that gay.

  • Simple sequence, export media encoder launches, then nothing.

Simple sequence, export media encoder launches, then nothing.  How can I trouble shoot this.  I have no idea why this is failing.  I have tried a number of options etc. I am using CS4 on vista.

Harm, I followed your advice.  I am new to this forum and should have looked at the wiki about the 16 questions.  Once I did I noticed that the first item was remove Beta software.  I had beta software for Flash Builder and Flash Catalyst that had also installed (without me noticing) media encoder CS5.
Once I removed these Beta releases, the Media Encoder went back to CS4.
    Thanks for your response.

  • Final Cut Pro X Image Sequence Export missing frames per second option?

I am using the trial version of Final Cut Pro X.  I can export an image sequence but it will only allow me to do so at 30 frames per second -every single frame!
So a 10 min movie takes half an hour to export 20,000+ frames that no one on earth has time to look thru.
In my old Final Cut Express I was able to choose 1 or 2 frames per second, which was just right.
    What am I missing?
Do I need to buy Quicktime Pro or Compressor to allow me to export image sequences without exporting every frame?
Why would Apple even have an image sequence export if it only allows you to export every frame, or it that only in the trial version?
    Thank you

I found a free option for you, if you don't already have Compressor 4.
In FCPX create your movie. Then SHARE as a Master File.
Get MPEG Streamclip, which is a free app available here.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your Master File into MPEG Streamclip.
In MPEG Streamclip, select FILE/EXPORT TO OTHER FORMATS.
    In FORMAT: choose IMAGE SEQUENCE
In OPTIONS, choose your frame rate.

  • Force start frame number in image sequence render

I have a 900 frame comp rendered to a numbered image sequence.
After applying a revision to frames 250-300, I would like to render
only those frames, overwriting the originals.
    I have tried:
Under >Render Settings, "Work Area Only", with "Skip existing files" off.
This renders the correct frames as designated by the Work Area Bar,
but the frame numbering begins at 1 instead of 250.
Under >Render Settings, "Custom", with "Skip existing files" off.
In the Custom fields, I specify frames 250-300.
This renders the correct frames as designated by the Custom setting,
but the frame numbering still begins at 1 instead of 250.
Using both of the above settings, I have also tried to "force" a start frame
in the Output Module by manually entering "filename_[00250]".
The result is a new 51 frame sequence starting with "filename_[00250]_00001".
How can I get a partial render to overwrite the correctly
numbered original frames in an image sequence?

I have figured out what I was doing wrong.
I turns out that you can indeed force a start frame
number in the Output Module, but I was using it incorrectly.
Instead of having "Use Comp Frame Number" checked,
I had specified a starting frame number (1 - the first frame of comp).
The result is that regardless of what specified segment I rendered,
the output frames always were numbered starting with frame 1.
After checking "Use Comp Frame Number", problem solved.
Thanks for the input in helping me track down my error.

  • Premiere CC crashing when dragging sequences to Media Encoder CC

I've always been able to do this in the past, but suddenly when I drag a sequence or multiple sequences to Media Encoder from Premiere, Premiere crashes and gives me the following:
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [/sirreact64/releases/2013.03/shared/adobe/dvamediatypes/project/mac/../../src/TickTime.cp p-219]
and then a box pops up in Media encoder that says
    Dynamic Link Error
    Source is empty.
    Anyone help?
    17" Macbook Pro with 10.7.5
    Premiere CC
    Media Encoder CC

I am using the most updated version of PPro CC with OS 10.8.5. It seems to have issues with certain sequences and not others.  It also may be the files themselves.  They play fine in the program viewer and I have sent them to Media Encoder before, but if I create a new sequence with the same settings and copy the files into it, the same thing happens. I have a lot of 29.97 720x480 (1.21 pixels) and 1440x1080 (PAR 1.333) footage to edit together and create dvds out of (not my idea - it's a job) and I am in the middle of trying various ways of encoding to make it as clear as possible.
Currently I am using 1440x1080i HD anamorphic sequence settings encoding into 1440x1080 p HD anamorphic with frame blending, maximum render quality, Target bit rate of 30 VBR 2 pass. Then combining those files with other sequences into a longer 1440x1080 p HD anamorphic sequence and encoding MPEG 2-DVD NTSC widescreen progressive 100% quality, VBR 2 pass and the output is much better. This has been working, and today suddenly it stopped and started crashing. Any ideas?

  • SOLUTION to find Missing Frames in an Image Sequence

Here's blog post about how to find exactly which frames are missing in an image sequence. Since AE only says that you have x number of frames missing and if your sequence is 1000s of frames it is quite tedious to try to locate them.

  • Problem with QT PRO image sequence export

I have quicktime pro. When I export a .avi file into a .bmp sequence, it will name the files like this: whatever0001.bmp, whatever0002.bmp, and so on until whatever8000.bmp, depending on how long the video is. The problem with this is, I need to use the image sequence combined with a WAV file in order to get a certain file format (please, don't ask me what it is). However, the encoder needs to files to be: whatever1.bmp, whatever2.bmp, whatever3.bmp, etc.
How can I get quicktime pro to export the image sequence .bmp pictures like that? And if it's not possible, can you please point me to some freeware that can (OS X prefered, but I can use windows ones).
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 remove my video layers from sequence after export Media Encoder.

    Yes known issue.

  • Importing picture sequence in Media Encoder ? like in the help

If you look in this help document   http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AdobeMediaEncoder/4.0/WS8A54CAA7-268E-4af0-B8A4-0EA3EACEC1A3.h tml
it says you can import TGA sequence and JPG sequence. From the document :
    - JPEG and JPEG sequence (JPE, JPG, JFIF)
    - Targa and Targa sequence (TGA, ICB, VDA, VST)
but I was unable to do that. You can drop a jpg file in MEdia Encoder and it will convert just fine - but only the first frame. How to load the entire sequence ?

I'm trying to import. When you're working with 3d graphics and rendering - the common work-flow would be to render a series of frames, a sequence. Many people work like this also even with normal footage.
Or some programs expect also a sequence. For example the software Nuke (commonly used for compositing in films like Watchmen and Avatar).
And because I think Adobe Media Encoder is one of the fastest encoders around I would like to use it to convert a sequence of JPG in a WMV or H264.
Since it can export a sequence of TGA or BMP it's only normal to expect that it can read also a sequence. And more so the Help says it can :
    Supported still‑image formats :
JPEG and JPEG sequence (JPE, JPG, JFIF)
Targa and Targa sequence (TGA, ICB, VDA, VST)
But if I drag a JPEG file in the encoder - it reads only the first frame. Is there a special method to read the rest of the frames ? Maybe a script , or maybe I have to make a text file like a playlist ..or something.

  • Premiere CC 2014 hangs when sending sequences to Media Encoder CC 2014

Whenever I try to send a sequence from Premiere Pro CC 2014 to Media Encoder CC 2014, Premiere immediately freezes and becomes unresponsive. AME seems to still be running just fine.
I've tried the following troubleshooting steps:
    – Clearing the media cache.
    – Clearing and moving the scratch disks.
    – Deleting all render previews and re-building them.
    – Completely re-installing all of Adobe's Creative Cloud suite.
    – Importing the at-question PPCC14 project file into a fresh PPCC14 project and importing only the sequence I need to export.
    – Dragging and dropping the at-question Premiere sequence into AME.
    – Opening only AME and trying to drag the entire Premiere project file from Finder.app into AME's render queue. (This happens to work, as a matter of fact, however something strange happens once the sequence is in the AME queue. It pops up just fine, I can change the render settings and file export location, but when I click the green play button at the top right, nothing happens. AME doesn't hang or freeze up or anything, it's just that nothing happens. No prep, no nothing – very strange.)
    – Uninstalling CUDA completely and tried using only OpenCL and software-only rendering engines.
    – Opening the same at-question project on an entirely different computer.
    – Trying to export from PPCC14 itself.
    – Tried opening up an entirely different PPCC14 project and exporting – worked perfectly. So it must be something with this specific project file.
I eventually got it working (honestly, I'm not even sure what I did – at that point it felt like I was in a zombie state after four hours of troubleshooting and was just repeating troubleshooting steps because I was trying to hit a deadline with this export.) I was able to export it directly from PPCC14 – I was never able to get it to work with AMECC14, however.
Other miscellaneous noteworthy things: This project I'm trying to export is massive – it's a feature documentary that's about 2 hours in length. It's very complex in its edits, has a mixture of ProRes 422 files and .MTS files, and the entire project is reading media from three separate USB 3.0 hard drives. I know that's not the ideal workflow, but it's been doing just fine until this last time I tried to render out the latest export for our client.
Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

I've tried importing into a new blank project, but that did not seem to work. I then tried selecting the sequence in the bin and exporting that as a "Simplified Project" via the File menu. That still does not work when sending the sequence to AMECC14, but it does work when I render straight from PPCC14.
I have also found that as long as I give it enough time to load up and all that, I seem to be able to export just fine from PPCC14 itself – I'm still getting the freezing/hanging when trying to send to AMECC14 however.
Thanks for the help so far Cgunningham – I really appreciate it. I'll keep following up here if I find anything else new out.

  • Red r3d 3k fails on CUDA export Media encoder CC

Been having some problems with Red 3k.
Several times recently for some low budget stuff I have shot 3k and put it in a 720P timeline.
All of my 3k material will fail under media encoder CUDA export.....it works under software but a 20 minute CUDA encode is 7 hours with 3k in software encoding
4k 5k all work fine no problems.....just the 3k stuff. And this has been the case over several shoots for months.
It is also the same with 1080p sequences and at any frame rate, and it also fails from PPRO direct export (not queued)
    Thanks
    Win 8 64 core i7 6core 980 24GB ram, 2x GTX 470 1X GTX 590 SSD's

Yes, AME queue is a problem.  I have a 28 minute weekly broadcast for a client that must be encoded in 6 different formats for TV Broadcast, mpeg2 DVD, vimeo, mp3, h.264 for vimeo, etc.  If I attempt to encode all 6 in the queue I will have some success and also failure.   If I queue several videos that all require mpeg2 (though with each requiring several different specs, i.e., upper field vs. lower field, mpeg2 dvd, mpeg2 HD, etc.) it will complete the task.  Yet if I add h.264 to the mix all encodes will fail.  I can encode h.264 by itself with no problems.  So yes, you are not alone.  Not sure what the solution is.  In CS6 one could queue all of these formats and walk away.  Can Adobe acknowledge these issues and then propose a solution?

  • Encoding MPEG2-DVD from dpx image sequences produced random encoding artifacts

I'm using PPro CS 6. I've exported my 90 minute film as a DPX sequence. This image sequence is effectively my master. I then export this DPX sequence as a MPEG2-DVD and I get the following artifacts on random frames. It happens whether I'm exporting PAL (non interlaced) or NTSC (interlaced). I've now run the encoder three separate times and I get random artifacts on completely different frames. I'm checked the DPX images and they are fine so I know this problem is happening in the encoding.
    Thanks.

Here is another example. This time it I was encoding PAL from the DPX sequence.

  • Red frames popping up after upgrade to media encoder cc

I'm having some issues with Media Encoder CC. My workflow is AMA SxS card (footage is in XDCAM HD 1080/50i) into Avid Media Composer 6, edit, and export as XDCAM HD 1080/50i mxf file into a watch folder that Media Encoder picks up and converts to SD mpeg2 (its the way the TV stations want it) that file is then ftp'd using Media Encoder. It used to work fine with Media Encoder CS6, but since I upgraded it keeps giving me red frames (cant read frame errors) usually just before or after there is a cut in the footage. I've resorted to transcoding the footage in Avid to DNxHD 120 after editing and that seems to resolve the issue, but it's just an extra step that adds loads of time to my workflow.
    Avid Media Composer 6
    Adobe CC
    HP EliteBook 8760w
    Windows 7 64bit

The whole point is that I dont want to transcode into DNxHD at all, DNxHD is the extra step. The can't read frame errors are also very inconsistent in Media Encoder CC.  I might export a file and it gives me a few red frames (can't read frame errors) but if I then take the same file and rename it they sometimes work.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that hasnt helped...
