Now I have ceased my wedding video business to concentrate on bringing up my 7 month old son would some kind soul please help.
To make more space in our small house and reclaim the dining room table I am selling my 24" Imac and replacing it with a Mac Book Pro, I have some video of my son on my camcorder, can I capture the video to the external HDD via the Imac and commence editing when I get the MacBook Pro?

What do you mean by the HDD? Is it an external FW HD?
If so, any video media you put on it can be accessed by any other computer with FCE.

A FW cable would be far faster & Easier, but with Ethernet you need a compatible version of Migration Assistant running on both Macs.

WD My Passport 1TB USB external drive randomly ejects from my iMac and MacBook Pro.
The drive is approximately 4 years old. When the drive is plugged in, I can see the data. It appears to be working properly. The only problem is that everyone of my Apple Machines are ejecting it. Several years ago, this drive connected to Mac machines with no problems. I have tried two separate USB cords. I have updated the firmware. I have tried it on my MacBook, two different Macbook Pro's, and my iMac.
All give the same result of random ejection of the drive and the error message of:
Disk Not Ejected Properly
Eject "1TB Passport HD" before disconnecting or turning......
Searching through the web, it seems this is an common/known problem. Does anyone know the solution?

New Apple user...finally ditched Microsoft. I have an iMac and macBook Pro. I want to share all my files between the two so any changes will reflect on both machines. I don't quite know how to get the information into iCloud. I use to use Google Drive with my pc but the account was compromised and I removed all data from it. I am concerned about having all my stuff "out there" but I'm told it's secure. I'd appreciate any advice. Regards, Tom

When I connect to the iMac's server using the MacBook Pro, I try to log in but it says my log in info is unknown. So I try loging in as a guest but when I click on the drop box, it says that I don't have the privilegde to view it. Is there another easier way of file sharing between the computers I have at home?

When you log into the server computer you need to use the username and password of an account that exists on the server computer.

Put one of the computers in Target Disk mode by holding down the T key while your computer is starting. By doing this, the hard drive of the computer you put in Target Disk will appear as an external drive in the other computer, so just open a Finder window and choose the other computer's hard drive in the sidebar.

Dragging from iMac to Macbook Pro

I'm trying to copy some files between my iMac and Macbook Pro using Finder. The files are both owned by the same user, and I'm dragging between identically named folders. The files do NOT exist on the MBP when I start this operation.
When I try this operation, the first thing that occurs is that I am asked to enter my password, which has never occurred before (I just replaced my old Macbook with the MBP, which is the only change since I last tried to copy files from one system to the other). Okay, maybe this is due to the fact that the user numbers don't match (I'm user 501 on the iMac, user 503 on the MBP thanks to a Migration Assistant battle), so I go ahead and enter my password.
The next thing that happens is I get a dialog that says "A new item named "blah" already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the older one you're moving?" When I started the copy, "blah" did NOT exist on the MBP - it was created sometime after I began the copy. The file is empty on the MBP, so I click the Replace button.
I now get a new dialog that says "The operation can' be completed because an item with the name "" already exists." Note that the filename is apparently an empty string. At this point, I have no choice but to click OK. The copy is terminated, and I'm left with an empty file named "blah" on the MBP.

It turns out I can drag something from the remote system to the local system (i.e., Macbook Pro to iMac if I'm sitting at the iMac), but not from the local system to the remote system.

I had to change to a new Apple MacBook Pro. I deauthorized my old computer, authorized the new one and less than a quarter of my media shows up in the new computer. Everything that was downloaded from a cd is missing. Any help?

No. Firewire and Ethernet are not the same. Ethernet would be used to connect the computers to your network. A Firewire cable is used to connect the computers directly. They are different ports.

Do you mean the program itself? If so then if it was bought from the Mac App Store just logon to the MAS with the same Apple ID you used when you bought it and redownload and install on the new Mac.
If it was bought on DVD then get that DVD out and install in on the new Mac then run Software Update to bring it up to its most current version.
If you mean the Keynotes you created then just copy them over your LAN from one Mac to the other.

Did you purchase Final Cut Pro from the Mac app store? Or install it from disk? If from disk, you may have installed it on all machines using the same serial number, and using all of them simultaneously violates the license agreement. If you purchase from the App store the licensing is different and that may not apply.
