Changing FX5500 TD256 fan

Hello,
I've bought this video card six months ago and installed it immediately, but about a week ago it started to make a lot of noise. I realized that the fan is the one making the noise, and it's working much more slowly than expected, and this worries me. Sadly, I can't claim warranty (I bought my card outside my home country), so this does not leave me other choice but try to change the fan. I've searched MSI's site, googled for computer part shops, looking if there's a place where I can buy separate parts for cards, but I'm afraid there aren't any, maybe I'm doing the wrong search.
Then, I'm asking you if you know what should I be looking for when searching a solution to this problem. Should I be looking for parts and repair it myself? (Therefore, where can I get this parts?), would it be safe for someone with experience repairing computers to give him the card so he can replace the fan?
Thanks for your answers, cheers,
Ciro.

Ciro,
You should still be able to RMA the card through MSI.
Take Care,
Richard

  • FX5500 -TD256 instalation problems

After the fan on my FX5200 giving up the ghost, I bought a MSI FX5500-TD256, once the card was installed I reinstalled the NVIDIA 71.84 drivers that I was using previously.
at the end of the instalation process the error 'the parameter is incorrect' is displayed (gee thanks for the precise error message Bill). Since then I have spent 2 evenings removing and installing all versions of NVIDIA and MSI drivers that I can get my hands on, using driver cleaner to ensure complete removal each time.
I've searched the internet and all I can find problems that are solved with updating to new drivers, when I am using the up to date drivers
I have even re-installed my old card and that is coming up with the same error, so I guess that it is a driver problem, but I'm rapidly pulling my hair out over this one and I really don't want to clean instal my OS until I have explored every other possibility

Try installing first Via 4 in 1 driver pack, and later install the new drivers, and I will recommend to use the Nvidia drivers.
Thanks Kafkacell, I've now tried that and it still comes up with the same problem

Try nvidia drivers, you can choose from the  nvidia FTP: ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/
Thanks again Kafkacell, I have tried 45.23 through to 71.84 over the last couple of nights.
I was running nvidia 71.84 quite happily with my old card prior to the instalation of the new card, but my old card will not work with any drivers now, I am going bald with frustration with this now

  • Major headaches with MSI FX5500 TD256 card...

    Hello all,
I recently purchased an MSI FX5500 TD256..now my system keeps rebooting and often suffers from screen freeze.  I can access the internet and stay connected all day with no problems....but as soon as I try to play an online game such as City Of Heroes...reboot.
I have already installed the newest bios/mobo drivers and any other updates recommended by the program:  Everest.
I have tried numerous drivers from both MSI site and Nvidia site.  (Cleaning after each re-install of these with Driver Cleaner Pro as to avoid any possible conflicts.)
I even re-installed OS (WinXP/Home) twice.  (after formatting HD of course).
I have used DocMem to check the ram...ram checked out ok.
I am at my wits end....if anyone has any ideas...solutions..plz help....not much hair left  (grabs handfull and begins to pull)...
I have a rar file (mini dump file of the error and Everest report on my system)...is it possible to post these?
The system is roughly 2---2 1/2 yrs old.  (Self built and havent had any serious probs with it until this card.)  oddly enough...the card doesnt appear faulty...
Also...Everest reports CPU temp is 120F.   But there are 6 fans installed and mobo/CPU  cooler are (mostly) clean.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thnxs.

  • Can I change two DC fans in PXI-1042 chasis?

Can I change two DC fans ( Mechatronics E9225X)in PXI-1042 chasis?
It is too noisy in a quiet environment.
Could you reveal what kind of DC fans were adopted in the PXI-1042Q chasis?

    Hello
This is a great question and I’m regretful to mention that we cannot release this information. The PXI-1042Q has much more than different fans. There is an elaborate scheme of sensors. With the two different systems there is a vast amount of temperature requirements and sensors to control the fans. This conversion could be harmful to your system and not an issue National Instruments can support.

  • MSI FX5500-TD256 fix possible?

Hello, I have a big prob with my agp card (MSI FX5500-TD256)...I use to have a PNY GeForce MX440 installed...and that worked great..but when I upgraded to the 5500...my Pc reboots on high graphic games (IE: Dungeon Seige2...Diablo2..even..Ultima Online).  I have Win XP Pro. (Not 64bit)...I do not have any service pack installed.  I have DirectX 9.0c....my PSU is 450Watts.  I have downloaded the newest MSI drivers (that didnt correct the prob).  I rolled back driver to the one that came with the 5500 card (7.7.7.2version)...I am totally stumped.  Plz..if anyone knows how to correct this graphic nightmare....I would really appreciate any help.  Thnxs much,
    Rubix.

Okies...I went to the ECS website and look for updates on my mobo.  They have issued a bios update..which is suppose to fix a known issue with my particular board and NVidia chipsets.  The update is suppose to be burnt to a floppy and read in dos upon restart.  My Pc hangs on posting saying "invalid system disk" until the floppy is removed.

  • GeForce FX5500 TD256 Low framerare

I just bought a FX5500 TD256 for Christmas as a big surprise I get the cheapest video card ever.   I'm getting lower framerate than with my GeForce 4 Ti4800 128.
What is the problem with this card and is there something I can do about it ?  Because right now I just think I've spent over 150$ CAN for a useless card that is going to sleep in a box.
I was getting around 30-40 FPS @ 1600x1200 in World of Warcraft, no Vsync.  Now I'm getting max 15 FPS with the same config!
    Plz help me.

    Rmn,
Run Driver Cleaner followed by installing the latest Mobo Drivers and the latest nVidia ForceWare Drivers
I would also think about upgrading your Vid Card, since it is going to have a hard time running current game titles. It just does not have the horsepower to do so.
    Take Care,
    Richard
i made driver cleaner and installed last drivers and when i check my directx diagnostics it says no directdraw acc. no direct3d acc. and no agp texture acc. and it's not normal i think.

  • Changing the default fan speeds

I have a MSI GTX 760 and I would like to change the default fan speeds. I can do this in MSI Afterburner, but this is a multi user pc and I want the fan speed to be for every user?

Hmm guess best answer is, Just dont get a msi display card. If there not going to fix a problems with fan speed's.
And MSI gaming app in OC mode makes the fan go no faster than 35%, click normal mode and go's higher.
Just use Gpu-z run test and watch the temp increase. 1 of the ways i have tested.
I feel quite let down as this is not the first time I have reported this and asked for help.
This thread just seems to be for UEFI bios.

  • FX5500-TD256 Voltage question

I just ordered a FX5500-TD256 and then noticed that my motherboard will onlt support a 1.1 Volt AGP card. Apparently it will damage the mobo if I use a higher voltage card. Can anyone tell me if the FX5500-TD256 is a 1.1 V card or not? I haven't been able to find any help elsewhere.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Actually, it's for a friend's computer, so I don't know the motherboard. However, I did some online research and found out that some of AGP's specifications were updated within the last couple years (the system was built in December of 2005) so that AGP 8x cards won't fit into a 4x slot anymore. So basically, as long as it's a new card, it simply won't fit unless the mobo can support it.
So to answer my own question: yes, the card works with the mobo. It already fired up and runs smoothly.
The only problem now is that it wasn't the card that needed to be replaced in the first place... argh    It turns out that the LCD monitor that he uses crapped out. Fortunately it's still under warranty and he's working on replacing it now.

  • Cant install FX5500-TD256-TD128

    Hello, everyone.
    If anyone could help...
I just installed my FX5500, but Windows XP wont recognize it, and installing the drivers, both from nVidia or Liveupdate wont do any better.
WinXP also wont find the drivers automatically, even if I point to the installation CD.
All I get in Device Manger is Video Controller - VGA Compatible.
System specs: MSI FX5500 TD256/128 bits, Pentium 4 2.4Ghz, 768 MB DDR RAM, mobo ASUS P4S533, Windows XP SP2, trying to install with latest Detonator drivers from nvidia.
    What should I do?
    Thanks

Try uninstall the old driver. Then install the new card, then the new driver.

  • Voltage on FX5500 TD256

    Hello,
         I have a MSI FX5500 TD256 (8911 VER 330) AGP video card.
My MB has taken a crap on me, and now I am searching for a new one. Some MB's are stating that they will except vga of 1.5v only.
I can not find the voltage info any where on the specs of this card.
Can anybody tell me, will this card work in a MB that uses only 1.5v
Thanks in advance for you time and help,
    Dave

It was a shuttle MK35/N it only had 4X/AGP. I bought this card because it was backwards compatible to fit my MB. Now I need a new MB, but I am only going to buy one that has 8X. That way I should benefit a little more out of the card.
    TY for that fast reply,
    Dave

  • NX6800GT-TD256 fan starting voltage ?

Hello, anybody know what the starting voltage of the fan is ?
This is the red-PCB adjustable fan version. Wondering if it's safe to connect the fan to a Zalman fan controller (5-12 V).
    Thanks

y you want to change voltage?
    isn't it quite enough?
right now i am looking for MSI6800GT with fan slider
how's its noise at low RPM?
anyway did you try expert tool  from gainward..?
expert tool has fan speed control option and it work most 6800s
i don't know if it works at MSI's 6800 or not  but try gainward tool first if you want reduce fan speed .
gainward expert tool fan speed control setting worked MSI6800GT with reference.

  • Change speed CPU-fan KT4-ultra

Does anyone know if you can change the speed of the fan on your cpu on the KT4-ultra. I tried everything with software, but nothing helps! Mayby MSI has blocked it?
    Thanks.

You could try adifferent heatsink fan with a variable speed control - I use a coolermaster hac-v81 which has a speed control allowing speeds upto 5000rpm lower than 3000rpm at the bottom end.
I don't know of any mobos that allow you to control fan speed
