Changing GPS coordinates in PSE 9?

Typically I import pictures from the camera into PSE 9, then change the GPS coordinates as needed in GeoSetter (because it's much easier there).  Back in PSE 9, I use "update thumbnails", and can verify the new lat/long coordinates when I view the metadata in the properties panel.  However, the locations on the map do not change.  (I believe they were in PSE 5, though.)
Is there a way to update the map locations from the picture files?  PSE 9 must create a separate table of locations that doesn't get updated with "update thumbnails", even though the metadata is updated.  I suppose I could delete the pictures and re-import, but then some of the caption/tag/collection data may be lost, depending if PSE 9 re-creates tags from keywords (and I know collections aren't written to keywords).
Thanks,
John S.

Upon further investigation, here's what is happening:
- When I change the GPS coordinates in an external program (GeoSetter), the new coordinates are written to the GPS fields in both the EXIF and XMP data.
- When I hit "Update Thumbnails" in PSE 9, those new coordinates are read into PSE and are visible in Properties/Metadata, but are not reflected on the map.
- After I change the caption and tags in PSE and hit "Write Keyword Tag and Properties Info", the new coordinates in the EXIF and XMP data in the actual file are overwritten with the old coordinates!
Obviously PSE 9 is storing the GPS internally and not updating with "Update Thumbnails".  So I guess my only solution is to change the GPS data before the photos are ever imported into PSE 9 -- unless someone knows how to update the coordinates internally, which was the point of my original post.
Thanks again,
John S.

  • GPS coordinates are not appearing in LR 5.6

Why can't I see GPS coordinates in my Mac Pro?
I am able to read GPS Coordinates when viewing LR 5.6 in my MacBook Pro but not when viewing the same files onto my Mac Pro. Mac OS X 10.9.5  LR 5.6  ACR 8,6  Nikon D810.
As well I cannot turn off XMP files. I did turn on “automatically write changes into XMP” and subsequently it off it yet the xmp label still appears in the LR 5.6 Library info panel

Try going to the map module and then select all the imported photos.  Go to the top menu:
Photo >> Read Metadata from File

  • How can I delete ONLY the GPS coordinates from my Hi Res images WITHOUT "Save four Web" or Lightroom

    Hello,
I take hi res pics of rare wildlife and plants with both my Camera's and iPhone's GPS deliberately ENABLED. Use the photos and their GPS coordinates to document and plot my sightings with dates on maps. CANNOT disclose those locations to others. I do want to keep the metadata in my pics to the very end.
Use Photohop Extended CS 6 MAC. Save files as hi res TIFF or PSD and sometimes e-mail/upload my pics to the web when I'm done.
I CANNOT use "Save for Web" to delete my metadata — I don't want the jpeg's lossy compression. Need to preserve color profiles.
    Don't have Lightroom.
How do use Photoshop to remove ONLY the GPS coordinates from my hi res images EXIF data??? Want to keep other EXIF data.
Surely Adobe can provide this life-saving service?
    Thanks

Yep, as others mentioned, just use Bridge and delete the entries there.  You can select a whole batch of files and do them all at once.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 plus I create PDF files for work some are scan pdf docs. When I install Photoshop Elements 10 it DOES convert all the PDF files to Photoshop Elements-10 Docs. it even changes and shows the PSE-10 Icon. So I am alway installing PSE-10 or uninstalling it. What can I do to stop PSE-10 from converting my PDF files? Don't tell me to upgrade PSE-10 I tried their on-line program and  it is too advance for a hobby photographer like myself and their Help Desk is impossible to reach.

  • Bug in Preview's Exif viewer (inverted GPS coordinates)?

    Hi,
I've been scratching my head quite a lot over this one...
I'm finalizing an application that gets your GPS coordinates off your Google Latitude history and uses them to geotag your pictures. The idea is to make it easier to use the "Places" functionality of iPhoto, Picasa, etc...
Anyway, I cannot explain why Preview seems to display an incorrect longitude (it drops the "-" sign which places a California picture somewhere in China...) when Exiftool, Picasa and, yes, even iPhoto seem to get it right.
I know some of you will probably think I'm looking at 2 different pictures (I probably would think the same if I were you) but I've double, triple checked. In fact a simple "Show in finder" from iPhoto or Picasa will bring up the picture for me to double-click.
    Anyway, see for yourself:
    The picture in question
    Exiftool
    in iPhoto
    in Picasa
    in Preview
    Any feedback appreciated.

However, that would not explainwhy the very complete exiftool output is spotless (as far as I can tell). IPhoto and Picasa also get it right...
That's all well and good. But even if you have smoking-gun evidence that there is a bug in Preview (and it isn't a show-stopping bug either), it will be months, if not years until said bug is fixed. Until then, your output will not work in Preview. So, in any case, you are going to have to modify your code to produce output that Preview can read. Other applications are able to produce such files that Preview can understand. What is the difference?
My advice is to continue working with other tools to generate identical files with identical tags. Then find the difference in output between the other tool and yours. That should identify where the bug lies.

  • Can the iOS Field Test app data be written to file with GPS coordinates of readings?

I can run the Field Test app on my iPhone5 but I cannot automatically store the data revealed by the app.  Would it be possible to do this? and link the GPS coordinates to the data?  or is the network data not accessible from an app?

Ask the App developer.  There is no such app native on the device.

  • IPhoto 11 GPS Coordinates

Where can I find the GPS coordinates in iPhoto 11 for geotagged pics? In iPhoto 09 this information was available under the Photos menu "Show Extended Photo Information".

Afraid not.  However, as Larry suggested you can use x EXIF Viewer for Mac OS X to get the GPS coordinates from the file.  Just launch EXIF Viewer and drag the photos from iPhoto's window onto the EXIF Viewer icon in the Dock to get this:
No need to export the photo to get the info.

  • How can I get the gps coordinates on my ipad which was stolen today?

My ipad was stolen today, how can I get the gps coordinates to report to the sherriff?

If Find My iPhone (iPad) was turned on on your iPad and the iPad is on and connected to the Internet you will be able to locate it. Go to iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID and password. If the device is off or not connected to the Internet you can send a signal to lock or erase the iPad but that action will not complete until the iPad is connected to the Internet.
If you did not have find my iPhone turned on there is no way to track your iPad.

  • Address from gps coordinates

    Hi,
I would like to know how I can get the address from gps coordinates.
    Example: I have this coordinates:
    latitude=41.889373 ,
    longitude=12.492438

    How do I do this?
    Thanks
    P.S. I don't have lbs platform

I would suggest trying to find a web service which does this - this goes the other way:

  • How can I find the actual GPS coordinates of a photo?

IPhoto 11:  for purposes of cross-referencing photos with physical samples (rocks, plants...) I want to be able to display (or otherwise discover) the actual GPS coordinates that iPhoto has imported with my still photos from Sony HDR-CX520V high definition video camera (GPS enabled).  Can I find the coords within iPhoto?

I don't believe you can. I'm pretty sure that Graphic Coverter  can do this.

  • LR4 Export to disk is loosing GPS-coordinates

    Hi,
Noticed that when I export pictures to disk (Publis Service Hard Drive: Export) that I loose the GPS-coordinates of the pictures. The Location info is still there (that's the reversed gps-location-lookup data).
Is this a bug or is that intended behaviour. I did not check: remove location info, in the Settings dialogue.
Note that exporting to SmugMug does not omit the gps-coordinates, and is mapping the pictures fine.
Thanks in advance for your advice/comment.
    Oh.... almost forgot:
I use LR4 the original issue
    Windows 7 professional x64 8GB memory
    Nikon NEF raw images
    Exported to JPG

  • Photos. Where are the GPS coordinates?

Geotagged photo taken with N9 camera. When the photos are trasnfered to PC, I can see it under Properties/Details. But when I view it in N9 using N9's default photo viewer, I couldn't find the coordiantes. What did I do wrong?

GPS coordinates are embedded in file in so called EXIF data. Maybe your OS can not read this EXIF data. You need a proper picture viewer, like IrfanView

  • GPS coordinates with minutes and seconds always 0

I noticed the geotagged photos from my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4.3.1 Jelly Bean) have GPS coordinates always rounded to integers in Aperture. However when viewing the photo coordinates on the phone directly before importing in Aperture, or using a non-Apple tool (such as ExifTool), precise coordinates with minutes and seconds are displayed. After some research, I conclude this is an Apple bug. It affects iPhoto and Preview.app too (probably due to same underlying code reading Exif tags).
Did you experience the same bug? What phone and firmware were used to take the picture?
For the technical record, here's the bug (which I've notified to Apple). Internally (in the binary format of Exif tags), coordinates are represented by 3 values for degrees, minutes and seconds. Each of these values is represented by a rational number encoded with 2 integers (numerator and denominator). Most cameras will set an integer in the degrees values, and fractional part in the minutes and/or seconds. This format is properly decoded by Aperture. It is however valid format to set minutes and seconds values to 0, and a non-integer value in degrees, such as 70,764,776 / 10,000,000 = 7.0764776 deg. This format is not correctly parsed by Aperture.

Yosemite has fixed the issue. Coordinates are now correctly displayed.

  • Comparing GPS coordinates

    Hello,
First of all, I am pretty new to LabVIEW so sorry if the methods I use are very devious.
For an assignment that I'm doing, I am working with agricultural field data that is coupled to gps coordinates. I have two data sets (A and B) with both an latitude and longitude and the corresponding parameters, both in a separate array. Some of these parameters have to be multiplied by each other, but the problem is that the one data set has other coordinates than the other, and also much less. Therefore the array sizes do not match which means I cannot multiply them. For the dataset A with the most gps data points (>4000 points) I want to select the closest gps datapoint of the other dataset B (<300 points). Calculating the distance between the coordinates in this case is simply subtracting one coordinate from the other. However, in order to select the closest data point of B for each element of A, the difference of each separate element A with all elements of B has to be known. Now I'm struggling with the for loops, and getting the thing to work properly. The output is now an array with the right dimensions, but everey element has the same value.
Attached is the code I created so far.
Hope you guys can help me!
