Changing hair color

How would one go about changing hair color? I suspect this involves some conbination of adjusting a layer, then using a combination of brush tools, but I haven't a clue on the specific sequence of steps.

Have a look at #22 "To Blonde"...PDF tutorial and a set of Blonde gradients available to download. It uses gradient Maps to recolor hair.
Edit: There's also a set of Shanzcan Hair color gradients (assorted hair colors) available for download. I
think they are on the Adobe Exchange. Then again, you could make your own gradients using the hair color charts recommended earlier. (If those just came on a jpeg instead of a swatch set, you can use the eye dropper tool to make yourself a set of natural skin tone/hair color swatches.)
Also have a look at #33..."Changing Hair-The Root Treatment". This one is airbrushing color on a blank layer set to softlight blend mode.
FWIW, Some tutorials recommend Soft Light blend mode...so cycle between blend modes to see what looks best on your image.

Help me, I cannot change hair color?

I watched a video on Youtube, but no help.
I am trying to turn black hair into blonde hair.
But my end results always look like I just used MS Paint and painted yellow all over the hair.
The steps I did were:
1. Change the curves to make the picture brighter
2. I select the hair with the magic wand tool.
3. I go to Selective color.
4. I choose neutral colors from the drop down list.
5. I slide cyan and magenta over to -30 for a yellowish color. But the hair turns pure yellow, like a lemon, and has black blotches in it so it doesn't even look like hair.
I mess around with the shadows but that just ruins the quality of the image.
Any suggestions for me?
I always end up with pure yellow, but I am trying to go for platinum blonde, like this:

Does the quality of the picture affect this?
Because the picture was taken with an Iphone. which has an 8 megapixel camera.

An image used as input for an editing process that makes pretty radical changes does need a quality level above and beyond typical, yes.
Apple's portable device cameras are some of the best cameras in that realm yet, but they're still cell phone cameras.
And beyond the image quality, which may not be as good as it needs to be to serve as input to a complex set of edits, shooting a photograph in good, controlled lighting vs. taking a snapshot in whatever lighting can yield pretty different results. That's not to say we don't sometimes get good lighting in everyday situations - sometimes we do get lucky. But think about it: In order to turn dark hair blonde, you need all the hair strands to be individally visible - with no blacked-out areas and plenty of detail. This is achievable with top quality photographic equipment and lighting.

Using the "quick mask" tool to change a color

Good Day All
I am a wee bit confused. I wanted to show someone a way to change hair color in Photoshop CS5. Using the method I have used in CS4 I did the following.
In CS%, I clicked on the brush tool and then on the “quick mask” tool. Stared painting in the area I wanted to change. When I clicked to take off the quick mask tool, the paining I had done disappeared. That was it. In CS4 when I turned off the quick mask tool I would get an outline if the mask.
Is there a setting I am missing or has CS5 changed how this works?

Here is more information.....
These are the steps I do and the changes that take place
1) Select the brush tool
2) Select quick mask. When I do this, on the layers panel, the background layer is not highlighted
On the bottom left hand side the “set foreground & back ground color changes from (foreround) black to gray and the background color stays white
3) Paint (it is red) the area I want to change and click on the quick mask.
The red where I painted disappears, and the outline is not showing. On the layers panel on the right hand side is now highlighted and on the bottom left hand side the set foreground color changes to black.
4) If I click on the quick mask, the painted area comes back.
I located the “quick mask” under the tab channels. It is displayed as a separate channel. When I turn off the quick mask, the quick mask channel disappears. When I turn on the quick mask, the quick mask channel reappears….

How do I change a color to another in a bitmapData image?

Let's say you have an image of a cartoon human that is wearing a blue jacket with white sleeves, blue shoes, and grey pants. Brown hair and biege skin tone.
(My project actually has 1300 of these images - 325 are blue cloths, 325 are red cloths, 325 are green cloths, and 325 are purple cloths)
I am having a major problem with file size and memory usage due to all the images, so I have been asked to see if there was a way I could programmatically change the clothing color... this way we can use any color we want, and only have 325 base images.
I have been trying to play with color matrix filter and color transform, but I can't seem to get the hang of it
Is there a way I can extract only the "blue" colors from the image and do a hue shift on it to the color that I want it to be without effecting the non-blue colors?
My idea was something along the lines of:
Copy the "blue" color channel, hue shift it, then merge it back into frame....

Oh boy... this seems to be an issue with your manager wanting it done 'NOW' rather than 'CORRECTLY'.
For my original statement to work, the clothing would have to be seperated from the people - as per your suggestion to them - which would make your lives a whole lot easier. The problem with hue shifting the entire image is --> it will hue shift the entier image = all colors, and that may not be the best solution in your situation.
I would suggest replacing the pixel color (eg. getPixel32 and setPixel32 for the size of the image) but it seems that the shoulders and shoes have a darker color tone than the rest of the body.
Secondary solution:
Import one of the image into Flash and do a bitmap trace of the image.
Seperate the clothes and people there.
Add the clothes as a new movie clip and change the color on a few frames 5 or so different colors (so its not too much work)
Show them an example of how 'easy' it is to change the colors CORRECTLY when the images are seperate (even in the same file)
The secondary will give them the 'all in one file' they requested... and also give you solid grounds for convincing them to change the graphics.
Hope this helps. Other wise... its a long not so nice solution which will go over budget because they did not plan for this before they made the graphics.

Why can't I change the color of the h1?

I'm working on a site and all of my CSS is working properly but I'm having trouble changing the color of the h1. I can change the font, the size, bold....everything EXCEPT the color.
I duplicated my page and CSS and began to deconstruct the page elements as well as the CSS and I have gotten down to this basic coding and it still will not show red text for h1 even when I have it coded that way in the CSS. The Design View in DW shows red but when I preview in a browser, it shows black.
I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. I've never run into this before. What am I doing wrong?

LOL.....have you ever looked at code so long that your brain totally misses the obvious? As you can see, I forgot to add the # when I pasted the color code from Photoshop into the CSS editor in DW.

Could anyone point me to a working example (preferably with source code available) which uses the get_SkinColor or get_HairColor functions from the HDFace functionality?
I've been calling these functions after building a facemodel and they seem to be returning a successful HResult while at the same time changing the UINT32 passed by reference to zero, regardless of the hair color presented to the Kinect. Is there a project
which shows the correct use of these functions publicly available?

Changing Fill Color on pasted images

I am try to change the color of an image I got off the internet, however, I used the Instant Alpha feature to remove all the other "junk" that was in the pic. Now I have a clean image, but I would like to create multiples of the image, but make them different colors. Is there any way to do this? I have been pulling out what little hair I have left in an attempt to figure it out. Thanks for any help offered

You can do different "monochrome" colors by taking the Saturation down to zero, then messing with the Temperature and Tint to get the color you want. The "black" parts of the picture will change to the color you want, and other shades will be lighter or darker.

My Excel with PowerPivots acts weird, it hangs when i try to change font color

I am facing a weird issue using PowerPivot in my workbook, there is a worksheet named Charts in my workbook and all the charts i am using resides in that worksheet. Whenever i try to change the font color in that sheet, my excel's color palette goes blur
and then everything just freezes and turns black. This problem is happening only with Charts worksheet, when i try to change the color in other sheets, it works just, the problem is only with Charts sheet. File
size is 16 MB, there are just 10 pivot tables with some calculations and some calculated fields. There are no add-ins other than PowerPivot.

Do you receive any error message?
Which Excel version are you using? Excel 2013 or other?
Which workbook format are you using? XLS or XLSX?
Are you performing any specific task?
According to your description, this issue seems only occur with the special worksheet "Charts".
Firstly, I recommend we copy all of the content to a new/blank Excel file to test.
If it works fine, this issue might be caused by the "Charts" workbook itself. We'd better check the "Charts" workbook. Or re-build the file with a new workbook.
If it still makes Excel hang with a new file, this issue might due to the content. Please check the content first.

Change the color of the outer line of a shape

Hello I'm trying to create a rectangle with a red border and no inside fill. It's only to highlight some text of a bank form.
I know i have to right click the layer and choose blending options and stroke. But I've tried to change the color so many times and no matter what I do, the outer line remains gray and with rounded corners.
I want the corners of the rectangle to be squared, not rounded but I'm having a hard time changing this.
Please help

Hi,
With Ps CS3, you'll probably want to define a Layer Style for a Stroke and then use that with the Square Shape Layers.
This is a Stroke of 4 px, 'Centered' (so a very slight corner rounding on the outside edge. 'Inside' will give you square corners for both inside and outside edges). To change the color of the stroke, go to Layer> Layer Style> Stroke and change the color by clicking on the color bar.

Unable to change text color (from Black)

For the next person who blunders into this and searches for an answer...
If you have a Condition Code whose decoration is a custom color, and you delete the color, the text goes to Black, and you cannot change the color of text bearing that CC - with local color override, or a Character Format that applies a color (I didn't try Paragraph format).
I am copying formatted content in from an older document that doesn't conform to current templates. I had deleted unused colors in the source, but not unused Condition Codes, one of which rode in with some text. What was controlled by the CC in the old doc is now controlled by a color Character format, except that when applied, the text stayed stubornly black (until I nuked the CC).

This does not surprise me. As long as the condition is applied and "Show Condition Formats" is active FrameMaker will show the Condition Color (now: Black) and not any underlying text colors.

I am unable to change the color of text in an email I replay to or compose. I am on 31.6.0 release of Thunderbird.

When I receive, reply or compose email. I no longer am able to see or change the color of text. I select to change the text from black to Red (or any other color) and the text just stays black, The color seletor box will show the last select color, but never actually changes the text color in an email. Also in received email, when the sender has indicated their replies to me are in another color, All the text only appears as black. I never had this problem in the past, not sure what has happened. I did restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled and this did not change the problem.

I'm assuming you clicked on the color patch besides the word <Character> to open the color picker window.
At the right side of this window there is a vertical bar that has 2 horizontal black lines at the bottom.
This is actually a slider. Pull it upwards with the color picker and color will appear in the window.

Every time I try to replace text on a brochure template, the colors inexplicably change- and when I try and change the color, it doesn't let me- help, very frustrated:) Please respond in laymen's terms:P

I am working with the Green Grocery Newsletter Template, and I am trying to substitute the text. As an example of my issue, when I highlight the title text and start typing, it turns blue, even though the text color box still shows green. Actually, any text I try to replace turns blue! If I try to change the color of my blue text, the text color box shows the new color, but the text on the template is of course, still blue.
