Changing hierarchies dynamically in BEX

Hi Experts!
I have two hierarchies for one object. When I run my report on the WEB I can swap these hierarchies dynamically, i.e. I can choice the hierarchy at the execution moment (in the context menu I have this option in the object proprieties)
But, I could not found the same option when I run my report on the EXCEL environment.
Does anybody know if I have this option or not in the BEX?

Hi Silvio:
I have another solution for your qestion.
In BI 7.0, when you excute your query on WEB.
You could right-click on your item, which you want to change the hierarchy, and select properties->Characteristic. Then you to Hierarchy tab, here you can change the hierarchy dynamically ^ - ^

Hi Patrick,
You can create a Hierarchy variable (not hierarchy node variable) to achieve this.
To do this, right click the characteristic and select properties.
select the hierarchy name selection button.
check the variables check box
create a variable
Now the user can chose which hierarchy to be diplayed before running the query and change it if they want after running the query

Unfortunately there is no way to pass the query dynamically in DB Adapter. The reasoning behind that is that the DB adapter configuration wizard creates multiple assist files for each operation including the xsd which can not be created for any query dynamically.

Either use XA datasources or throw a rollback fault in the catch block.

Change Data passed from BEx to BO

Hi Gurus,
In our scenario, we have BO reports built on top of BEx queries.
In BI, the convention for Hierarchy Node technical name is -> Hierarchy name + Hierarchy Node Name e.g, if Hierarchy Name is ABC and node name is XYZ, then Hierarchy Node name is ABCXYZ.
These values are passed to BO via Hierarchy Node variable, with manual entry.
In BO hierarchy node values are selected via prompt .
Now requirement of BO is,in prompt, they want just need name of Hierarchy Node, without hierarchy Name.
In above e.g., they need value XYZ, instead of ABCXYZ
Can you please suggest.. how can we achieve this, without Customer Exit variable or change in Master data ?

Hi Ingo,
Now we have decided to display the text(description) to BO Report.
Hence we have done following changes on BW side:
Changed Display field to Text, in Business Explorer Tab of Hierarchy.
Changed Display property of Hierarchy in Query Properties to Text.
Now we are facing following problems in BO Webi list of values :
1) Description displayed in List of values, is matched with 'key' value . Obviously since values of keys and description are different, the system throws an error
2) Description are not displayed as Hierarchies, but just plain texts one below another.
i.e. '' symbol, for expanding Hierarchy, is not present in List Of Values, against the description ( symbol is however displayed for Keys )
Can you please suggest how to resolve this error

Is it Possible to select KF's dynamically in BEx ?

Hello BI Gurus,
Is it possible to dynamically select the KF for the columns in BEx ?
I'm sure I would be sounding vague with the abouve question.
Let me explain the scenario below.
I have a specific requirement where I have Year in the rows and 5 KF's in the columns.
The columns are basically a restriction on the sum of one KF value to current year, uptil curryr-1, curr yr-2, etc.
Year | KF Value till Curr Yr | KF Value till Curr Yr-1 | KF Value till Curr Yr-2 | ...
Now as per the requirement, when the user selects one particular Characteristics for the Year, he needs to see a particular KF restricted as mentioned above in the columns.
And when he selects another Characteristics for the year column, he needs another KF to be displayed in the columns.
Is this possible in BEx??
If this is possible, kindly let us know how to achieve the same.

Check if this makes sense to you.
Create your key figure for ytd in one key figure structure in column.
Create another characteristic structure which has calendar year characteristic under the key figure structure.
(ie we are trying to drill across by calendar year characteristic).
If the selection is made from 2007 to 2009, then the report layout would be as shown below.
....................................KF ytd............................
2007...........................2008....................2009
val till date................val till date
in 2007.....................in 2008........
Create your user input variable on characteristic calendar year.
Performance wise, this would be better than using CKF/RKF
Note - We are not restricting calendar year in key figure.

VM NIC keeps changing from Dynamic to Static IP (from a static IP pool)

Back ground:
Having migrated our VM's from 2008R2 and 2012SP1 servers into one 4 node 2012R2 Hyper V Cluster we have a problem with NIC's being changed to Static IP, this in turn gives a range of warning and errors when
moving VM's between the nodes (example during a live migrate or when we put a node in maintenance mode).
The cluster share a Logical Switch, this switch has 1 Uplink. The uplink is a Port Profile called "TrunkPort" and it contains lots of network sites. Each network site links to a Logical Network, each Logical Network is basically a VLAN on our Cisco
router/switch.
We don't have any IP Pools configured since we assign all VM's a static IP manually or they use DHCP provided by our AD servers.
When we change a NIC to from Static IP to Dynamic (there might be power shell to do this), bit in the GUI its painfull as you have to shutdown the VM remove the adapter and create a new one. I does not last long as the system after a few minutes changes
the NIC configuration back to Static IP again. Any idea why and how to stop it?

Note: a server configured with Dynamic NIC will move between nodes without any errors (nice green tick box icon), our problem is that SCVMM or the servers deside to reconfigure the NIC's to Static IP when ever they see fit!!

I feel like some issue with the Fabric configuration.
If you are create a new VM through SCVMM, do you face this issue? (While creating the new VM, on the hardware configuration page, use dynamic IP and Dynamic MAC)
The first event which you listed says about missing VM Network.
No available connection to selected VM Network can be found.
Please check the VM Network to where the VM is connected through SCVMM. And check if all the nodes have the same VM Network.
If thats missing, fixing it might fix few other errors which you mentioned.

Adobe Media Encoder CC renders do not reflect changes to Dynamically Linked After Effects Comps

When rendering a Premiere timeline with a dynamically linked After Effects composition, Adobe Media Encoder will sometimes use an older version of the linked composition (even after I have saved changes in the After Effects comp).
For example, if I correct a spelling mistake on some text in After Effects, save the composition, and then add the sequence to the render queue in Premiere, the final output from media encoder still has the old spelling.
If I do a straight export from Premiere instead of adding to render queue, the output is always correct. I've noticed this problem on several different Windows 8.1 systems.
All versions of the software are up to date as of today.
Why is this? Is it something to do with the disk cache in After Effects? Does media encoder have it's own cache that I need to clear?

Hi, I've been having this same issue. Here are some additional things I've noticed about it:
Changes are reflected properly when played back on timeline in Pr CC 2014.
Happens regardless if the dynamic link file was rendered or not, thus deleting the render files does not fix the issue.
The issue can persist through saving, closing, and reopening both AE and Pr.
I'm using OSX 10.9.4, so this is not just a PC issue.
Other than manually watching for every change to be reflected in the render, there is no way to know a problem has occurred. Needless to say this can be incredibly costly.
Please address this quickly, it's completely unacceptable that what we render out could be a different version from what we see on the timeline.
PS Some additional things I will be testing:
Does the issue persist through closing all CC apps, including Media Encoder.
Does rendering directly out of Pr, i.e. not using Media Encoder, fix the issue.

Authorizations for Hierarchies in BW-BEx

Hello, Experts!
I am having some problems in order to give specific access for specific nodes on the hierarchy on the profiles creation. For example, we need to give permission to the profile "Profile_one" (that can be viewed on the PFCG transaction) to access only the node "Node_one" of our hierarchy ("E_ERP01" - object 0city_code) and we need to give this authorization to a range of users.
We have studied some options like the one suggested on RSSM transaction and we have already tried creating an authorization object named "ZHIER". But the problem found on this transaction is that we have to create a profile authorization for EACH user that is mentioned on the range of authorization and then we need to link it on the transaction PFCG. But the users assigned on PFCG transaction don't receive all the same profile authorization (ZHIER), only the one that was mentioned on RSSM transaction.
Could you please help us to find a way to assign specific nodes of a hierarchy to a specific range of users? We have already searched and studied some notes without success.

If the account type keep changing every month , you must have to maintain that field out side the cube though.
I guess you can use the hierarchies (or) add the flag as an attribute to the GL account master data,then you can filter on this field in reports.
But hierarchies gives more visibility on data/navigation.
