Changing hostname on windows server...does it effect Oracle?

Hi,
We have a windows server that we need to change the host name for. Does this effect Oracle in anyway? We did a test run and changed the hostname of the server and updated the listener file and TNSNames file. Are there any other files that need updated relating to Oracle. We are able to start the listener and instance services on the machine, but when I try and log in to the DB I get a
ORA-01031: insufficient priviledges.
Now before I was able to do this, but now I can not. Any help please?

Version is 8i.
The command I am using is:
conn /@dbname as sysdba;
and I get that error...
Yes I can ping the new server.

  • Changing hostname of the Server

    Hi All,
I need to change the hostname of my machine where WAS6.40 and EP7 are installed with Database as SQL Server 2000.
Do i need a new License to complete my this task?
If not, then could anyone elaborate in detail the steps which i need to follow?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Indu

    Hello Indu,
Basically you are looking at performing a homogeneous system copy here. this is the only supported way to change your hostname. As you have EP you will haeva  Java Stack so it is critical that you following the system copy guide precisely.
    Http:
    service.sap.com\systemcopy
When you move to a new server the hardware key of the system will change so this means that you wil require a new license. You target system will be installed with a temporary license and you eill have 1 month to fully license the system.
You can request the license yourself on the sap service marketplace
    http:
    service.sap.com\licensekey.
    Hopefully this answers your question,
    Regards,
    David
P.S. Please give points if this is of help.

  • CFHTTP with https not working after server IP change (CF 10, Windows Server 2008 R2)

    Hi,
We noticed that a call to https://www.googleapis.com/ via CFHTTP stopped working after our sysadmin switched the IP of our web server.
    The error from ColdFusion is:
JSON parsing failure at character 1:'C' in Connection Failure
After researching, I tried using the keytool ([CF 10 root]/jre/bin/keytool.exe to import the top-level certificate (GeoTrust Global CA), which was exported from Google Chrome 42 in DER format.
    I used the following flags:
-import -v -alias GAGLOBAL -file [.cer location] -keystore cacerts -storepass [password]
It appeared to add correctly, as it displayed the owner, issuer, etc. and asked if I wanted to trust the certificate. I replied "yes", and it responded "Certificate added to keystore" [Storing cacerts]. I then restarted the CF 10 application service. The same error persists.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that manually added statics route disappeared after rebooting.
    Try to use command line:
Route –p add destination mask subnetmask
    gateway metric costmetric if
    interface
    Note:
Interface indicates the interface number. Type route print, the first column of
interface list, find the interface number corresponding to the MAC address.
Routes added by using the -p option are stored in the registry under the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip \Parameters\PersistentRoutes
You may open registry edit and check to see if the registry entry is added.
Besides, you may try a work around way to add this route entry in hosts file, which are stored in the local systemroot\System32\Drivers\Etc
    folder.

  • ODBC 32 bit Connection on Windows Server 64 bit  to Oracle 10 or 11

    Hi,
I was setting up VMware vCenter 4.1 (probably the only well known and largely used product with this lethal mix) and needed to setup an ODBC access to Oracle on the 32 bit side of Windows to setup the Update Manager server component, which is still a 32 bit application)
The problem with Oracle configuration is that in no way I found a 32 bit ODBC registered driver after the setup (of the 32 bit client and the 64 database server). I tried some third party driver for oracle (e.g. easysoft). They registered in the 32 bit ODBC manager but they never got a successful connection.
Also if this vCenter requirement is questionable (more questionable considering that the setup of this 32 component is not allowed on a 32 separate OS, not because it is separate but because is a 32 bit OS) I would get it working.
Could suggest a way to get this working?
    Thanks

Fabio D'AlfonsoWhen you install the Oracle client software on Windows (which is necessary to support ODBC, as the Oracle ODBC driver sits on top of the native client software) the ODBC driver is NOT installed by default. You have to go back and do a "custom" install and select the "Windows components".

  • Change of Min Pool Size has no effect?

Hi, we are still using odp 9.2.0.4 on windows server 2003 webserver and oracle database 9i on Sun solaris. Recently we discovered a problem using Min Pool Size = 1, it seems that if new connections are required we sometimes get a connection timeout. So we decided to set Min Pool Size = 30, and on the testserver this works fine. In the odp tracefile (tracelevel=2) you see the 30 connections building up immediately. But on the production server we see no difference, it looks like the (new installed, application pool reset) application still uses the Min Pool Size = 1 setting.
The connection string is build up in application code. On the testserver it was sufficient to stop and start the website and its application pool, on the production server this has no effect.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem is??? We also tried restarting the IIS server, that did not help either. In production there are more applications using ODP.
    Regards, Paul.

What problem are you trying to solve at this point? Simply "why is odp not tracing?" The only suggestions I really have there are
    1) make sure you restart the app after enabling tracing parameters
    2) make sure the directory you've set tracing to is open as far as permissions
    3) make sure you've set tracing in the right registry setting if you have multiple versions of ODP installed
    4) if you're trying to write to c:\ root, try creating and pointing to a different (c:\odptrace for example) directory instead.
    Hope it helps,

  • Replacing a windows server with a Mac server

    Hi all,
So this is a big company with about 150 employees using PC's (win xp and 7), considering replacing the current Windows server with a Mac server.
Is it possible to give users profiles once they log in like Windows server does? So when the user logs in they get to their own personal stuff? Can Mac server do that?
Can the user also get to the default printer and send prints to it regardless where they log in from inside the company?
And can the home directory to each user NOT be copied anywhere on the local machine where they log in? Meaning that after they log out there will be no traces to their files on that local PC..
    Thanks a lot in advance!!

By some standards, 150 is not "big" but a large small business :-)
Regardless, please plan and test and plan some more, very carefully !
The picture for what you want to do once looked far better with 10.6 server but that had its limitations as well.
With 10.6 server, Apple was using Samba - they are no longer doing so,
but/and the version of Samba they were using only provided NT-Domain level support.
So that would not work with your Win 7 stations either. But could be made to work relatively well with XP workstations. You can no longer buy any new Mac that runs 10.6 server and 10.6 server would be hard to obtain.
Not a great route to go.
Bear in mind that the key problem with Apple's Samba was that Samba changed their licensing,
and there's not a thing in the world Apple could do to implement a current version of Samba without violating their own operating principles and the licensing requirements.
You'll be heading into heavily uncharted territory here. Odds are good that any desired domain-functionality is not going to work for you.
Honestly, Apple appears to have thrown in the towel on directory-level support for Windows,
and the best way to support Windows workstations in that regard is with Windows server and AD.
Basic filesharing works, with some caveats.
If there's no AD involved at all, then have a look at my earlier post,
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3206725?start=47
Which worked a-ok for me but your mileage may vary.
Samba new current versions and GPL3 licensing issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3206725?start=75&tstart=0
"GPLv3 makes it impossible to provide signed binaries without also providing the signing keys. A few seconds of thought will reveal why Apple is unwilling to provide copies of the keys they use to sign system software. Part of locking down OS X security profile required removing anythign that used GPLv3.
Short version: GPLv3 is specifially desinged to be anti-company, and you are going to see a ever widening schism in the FSS/OSS community between GPL and all the other licenses, and you will be seeing less and less GPL code in commercial OSes and more BSD/Apache/&c code."

  • Installation Support of SAP Kernel Products on Vista / Windows Server 2008

one of the major design goals of Vista and Microsoft Server 2008 is to harden the operating system against unauthorized attacks from viruses, trojan horses etc.
The most important change in Vista/Windows Server 2008 (formerly longhorn)  is: a process running under a user account which belongs to the local administrators group does not run with administrative priviledges as long the process is not elevated to the administrative level.
Elevation can be done by starting the process per Explorer using <b>Run As Administrator</b> or using special APIs, which are new in Vista. Programs started with <b>Run as Administrator</b> will not be able to start subprocesses elevated without additional changes (compared to Windows XP / Server 2003).
Security settings of many Windows system objects like Directories and Registry Hives etc are much more restrictive in Vista compared to Windows Server 2003 / XP. In some functions SAPinst tries to access registry keys and values for enumeration with full access which is no longer possible in Vista.
In other words: without code changes in SAPInst for Vista / Windows Server 2003 there will be no possibility to install a SAP System on these platforms.
If you do not have a SAP note stating the opposit or if you do not have a PAM (Product Availability Matrix) entry promising support for Vista / Windows Server 2008 the probability is about 99.9 percent (or even higher) that the installation will <b>not</b> run.
    regards
    Peter

    yes, that's true.
I know of efforts porting MaxDB to Vista (there are some PTS'ses open) but generally one can say, that products below 7.00 are unlikely to work short term.

  • Multiple Oracle Databases in a Single Windows Server

    Hi all,
I have Windows Server System which has oracle database created.
    My question is:-
How can i create multiple databases on the same server without affecting the first created database & i want to use the both databases at a time?
Please give the steps to do multiple databases in the same server if possible..
    Thanks in advance,
    Venkatesh J

    Venkateshj wrote:

Oracle scales by adding more servers to a single physical database. This is called Oracle RAC.
You want to add more physical databases to a single server - doing the exact opposite of what Oracle offers as a scalable solution.
Please give the steps to do multiple databases in the same server if possible..No special steps. Run DBCA and create a new database instance. In other words, the exact same steps followed for creating the 1st database on that server.
Also make sure you fully understand WHAT you are doing and the IMPLICATIONS of that. An Oracle database is not the same as a mySQL or SQL-Server database. An Oracle Schema is a logical database - and compares to what a mySQL/SQL-Server database is.
And a single Oracle database can contain 1000s of logical databases (schemas). Each with their own dedicated storage, own security, own resource profile, etc.
    Oracle is not mySQL/SQL-Server.
    Understanding the differences is important.

  • DB upgrade from 10.2.0.3 32-bit to 10.2.0.4 32-bit on Windows Server 03

    Hi
    Below is my Env:
    OS: Windows Server 2003 32-bit
Oracle Version: Oracle Standard Edition 10.2.0.3 32-bit
    Only 1 database
I am planning to upgrade this database to Oracle 10.2.0.4 Standard Edition 32-bit. My upgrade path is to install 10.2.0.1 Standard Edition in separate ORACLE_HOME & then patch it to 10.2.0.4 & then perform the Database upgrade. I would appreciate some help in following areas..
    1) What Services needs to be stopped in Windows to confirm a safe shutdown of all services in 10.2.0.3 Oracle Home
    2) Do i need to delete services from old Oracle Home & then re-create them in 10.2.0.4 Home before initiating DBUA from 10.2.0.4?
    3) Do i need to change any registry values in this upgrade process?
Any information or links to find this information would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Harris.

    Thanks to both for inputs.
I tried to find the following information but couldn't get it anywhere. Can you let me know if following needs to be performed as well?
I have single database (TESTDB), which is configured with database control. Along with OracleServiceTESTDB, i have following services
    OracleServiceTESTDB
    OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListenerTESTDB
    OracleDBConsoleTESTDB
    OracleJobSchedulerTESTDB
Also the server has MSDTC service running.
I understand i need to stop all of these services in the old home before i do anything related to Upgrade. I have few more questions on this
    1) Do i need to delete all other services i.,e dbconsole, jobscheduler, tnslistener from the old oracle home at the same time when deleting the SID using oradim?
    2) Do all these services need to be re-created in 10.2.0.4 home before invoking DBUA? If yes, is ORADIM still the utility to use?
    Thanks,
    Harris.

  • Window Server crashes constantly

    Hi,
After rebooting my MacMini (headless, no keyboard) with MacOS X Server 10.5.4, I was not able anymore to connect to the window server (VNC). The reboot was done because I installed CollabNet's subversion package and licked to modify the $PATH so /usr/local/bin comes first and edited /etc/paths (which did not work at all). I removed the subversion installation and reverted the /etc/paths changes, but the window server keeps crashing. But anyway, the installation of subversion and the change to $PATH should not harm the window server. Attached the log file:

    Rik,
Unfortunately, I and several others have this issue as well. Apple has been notified, and all requests for updates result in "there is no new information at this time". 10.5.7 did not fix the issue for me.
The only "fix" that someone I know has had is to remove the "deny all" acl from all the share points/directories. Apple has been notified of this "fix" and considers it an "unacceptable workaround".
At this point, a few of us are working to escalate, but considering we notified them months ago about this, I have little hope this'll get fixed before 10.6. =(
Please do keep us posted if you figure out anything.
btw, here's my old thread on this: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8857952
None of the solutions posted helped, what-so-ever.

    What should I do in 11.2 ?
    Thanks for help

    Hi Groxy,
I recently found myself asking the same question and after a fair amount of digging around I found a way to do it. Your question is now a few months old, so maybe you have found the solution already, but if not the key is using roothas.pl rather than localconfig. I have written a brief blog post covering the approach I used, so please check that out if you want more information.

  • How to Know who Deleted Your Share Folder Data in Windows Server 2008

    Dears,
I have Windows Server for file server and share folder, I have created some shred folders for our departments, based on their request I put specific names belong to department into share folders those users only has access for the share folder, for some unknown
reason some one has deleted all the data inside share folder in the file server, my question is how can I monitor or know who is deleted the information inside share folder because I have more than one user it has access on the share folder, is there any way
to know that like log files or any other solutions? thanks in advance..
    Thanks.

Auditing access of shared folder will show you : who deleted shared folder data.
You can follow below steps :
Open Group Policy Editor by typing gpedit.msc to Start menu's search field or Run dialog window and hit Enter.
Go to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies Audit Policy, double click to open Audit Object Access.
Please refer to below links :http://roberttechnicalblog.blogspot.in/2010/02/auditing-shared-folder.html
    And, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/123362-audit-log-access-shared-folders.html
Meanwhile, you can also have a look at this proficient application(http://www.fileserverauditor.com/) which looks an exact solution to accomplish auditing task in windows server. It will notify you about all
changes made in windows server by sending a customized emails with real time alerts so that you can take required action while need in your working environment.

Your best bet is to open an SR with Oracle Support, and perhaps also Microsoft support, so you can track down why the guest is crashing.
