Changing how attachments are attached to outgoing email?

Hello everyone, my apologies in advance if this has already been answered somewhere, but I've been scouring the discussion forums for nearly an hour and don't really have more time to keep going.
I'm new to Mac, 6 days now. I'm having a bit of a problem: when I create a new email message and want to attach a file to it, the file is being 'previewed' in my email. Maybe not a big deal for some, but one thing I often need to attach is a massive PDF, not in file size but in pixels, 20,000-30,000 in width. Because Mail is trying to preview the attachment in the message, it is taking literally four minutes to do so, during which time I can't do anything else at the computer.
If I zip the PDF file, then attach the zip file, it shows as a file icon, but that isn't a very good solution - it would mean I need to zip every file I want to send that is previewable, meaning extra steps and more disk space usage.
Is there a way to attach these files without having to zip them, whereby the file will display on my end as an icon rather than as the actual file? I hope this makes sense. It's driving me crazy. My Mac experience so far has been excellent, but this is bordering on a showstopper for me.
I've read a ton of threads about email format, etc, and it doesn't matter if I do my emails as Plain or Rich Text, if I'm creating one from scratch or replying, who the recepient is, etc, it is always previewing the PDF. There's got to be a setting somewhere which will allow me to stop seeing the file contents in my email message.
Thanks to anyone who can help with this issue .

Thanks for the clarification.
You used the term right click on it to download instead of right click on it to save the attached file outside of the message which are very different things.
RTF with Tiger Mail is HTML or I should say can be HTML but certain things must occur in order for HTML to be implemented with a sent message.
Regardless the message font and size chosen at Mail > Preferences > Fonts & Colors, you must select a font and size via the font panel when composing a message or use bold, italics, underline for selected text or changing text color, etc. If you are using a signature that was composed with RTF or HML with a different font, size and/or color than is used in the message body or contains an image or logo, etc. Forwarding a message that was composed in HTML and the same when replying to a received message that was composed in HTML if you have "Use the same message format as the original message" selected for composing preferences at Mail > Preferences > Composing.
Any or all or a combination of any of these will send a message as HTML.
Depending on the Outlook and Windows version used by a recipient, Outlook has had some problems with Mail's RTF. There is no email client that is completely bug free and Outlook has plenty of bugs for such an old/mature email client and MS also makes the arrogant assumption that the majority of people that exchange email are using Outlook or OE and should be if not.
So long story short, using Plain Text for message composition can and does make a difference.

If it's a photo or video, you type out your mail then hold your finger down in the body of the mail to get the pop up to attach a photo.
If it's another kind of file you have to open it in the app it 'lives' in....for example your word processing app for a document, then look for the little box with the arrow, tap that and you should have the option to send that file to be mailed.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

How do I attach an old email to new email?

    Hi Jake
This is one of those "you can't get there from here" answers.
It is all about where you start from.
To do what you asked, open the old email and tap the "Forward" button. You then write your new email text above it before you send.

  • How do I save to outgoing email attachments folder in 8 as I did in 5?

I just upgraded from PSE 5 to PSE 8 and I use Incredimail, not Outlook.  In PSE 5 there was an option to save outgoing email attachments to a folder for subsequent manual attachment to my email message.  The online help seems to suggest this as the solution as well.  However, I cannot seem to figure out how to set this up in PSE 8.  In prefrences, the only options are Outlook, Outlook Express and Adobe Email Service.  When I go through the routine of sending an email through Outlook (which is installed on my computer but which my wife does not use), the attachment can be found in a very deeply rooted Temp subdirectory.  In PSE 5 I could cause it to be saved in a subdirectory under My Pictures/Adobe directory sorted by date of creation of email attachment.  Can anyone please advise how to accomplish this in PSE 8?  Your assistance is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

That's an application by application feature/standard that they need to adhere to. I have no problem with Photoshop doing what you describe. Check your Photoshop Preferences. Does this happen in every application?

  • How do I change the account of a pending outgoing email?

I am having problems with outgoing email in an account. I am using email on my iPad and have built up a backlog of pending outgoing emails in that account. It is very frustrating and leaves me with the feeling that the iPad cannot be relied on as much as a laptop can.

Tap the email in the Outbox to select it. Then you click in the field that has your email address in it - the field with cc/Bcc, From: [email protected],
Then the three fields expand to one line each, Cc, Bcc & From: seen in the second photo below.
Then you can tap on your email address in the  - From: line - to open up the options box and choose the account that you want the email to be sent from. I assume that it will work this way from an email selected from your Outbox. I know you can do this when you type a new email so I think it should work for you as well.
In the photo below - the black text ....When you click this field ... is the line that equates to the Cc/Bcc, From: line in the photo above. That was the original area that I tapped to open up the Cc Bcc and From fields on three separate fields.

  • How do I attach photos to emails?

I can't add photos as attachments in emails.  When I send pictures, they cannot be saved or stored in MS Outlook.
How can I send them as attachments as I did with my old 3GS?

    Thanks for this helpful information.
I'll try to make it more understandable for you.
Perhaps embed is the wrong word but it describes it perfectly.
My 3GS would attach pictures. OS 4.0.1. You could email pictures that were attached so that Outlook would recognize them as jpegs. You can save them on the computer.
My 4S can only send pictures in the email. They are part of the email, not attached to it. Outlook does not recognize these pictures and therefore cannot save them.
This is 100% the phones issue and not Outlooks. I can email you so you can see the difference if it would help you understand.
In summary; 3GS sends pics as attachments and are recognized as attachments in Outlook. 4S can't. It only sends them as email that are not recognized by Outlook as attachments and are useless as they cannot be saved.
I'm hoping this is user error.
With your knowledge, please show me how to send them properly so outlook recognizes them so I can save them.

  • How do you attach photos to email?

This was previously posted by me I will try to be more clear>{ newbe}, when I try to upload a photo to ebay or attach a photo to yahoo email the iphoto app.in finder is not highlighted. How do I attach to email or upload ?

There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Also, for 10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.
