Changing iCloud email - will my purchase history stay?

I want to discontinue the use of an old gmail account as my apple id for iTunes and iCloud.
If I change my email account in iTunes settings, will I retain my purchase history etc?
Seems like a silly question, but this type of change has totally wiped my history in other applications previously, so I want to be sure.
Thanks!

If you change ID you have changed account. The history (and everything else) will not be available to the new account.

  • How do I change icloud email when my apple ID has been updated to new email? Because of the update on apple ID, when I try to delete icloud account I have to put in the password, and it says username or password is invalid (because no longer apple ID).

How do I change icloud email when my apple ID has been updated to new email? When I try to delete icloud account (in settings-icloud-delete account) I have to put in the password for the apple ID of my old email address, which is no longer my apple ID, and it says username or password is invalid (I'm guessing because that is no longer my apple ID).

You will wait for the rest of your life. You need to fix it; no one else will. To turn off "Find my iPhone" and its associated Activation Lock you need the Apple ID and password that were used to turn it on. If you know the Apple ID you can contact Apple Account Security and have them reset the password (after you prove you are the rightful owner of that Apple ID). see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699.
If you don't know the Apple ID the phone is permanently unusable.

  • HT204053 I was using my husbands iCloud email. How do I change iCloud email to my iTunes email

I was using my husbands email address and iCloud and want to change to my address. I've changed iTunes but can't change iCloud email. Any ideas on how to change it

It only deletes it from your device, not from iCloud.  This won't effect his account of device(s).  W
Also, when you delete the account you will be asked if you want to Keep or Delete the iCloud data.  If you need to migrate a copy of the data to your new account, choose Keep, then choose Merge after signing back in with your new ID to upload the data to your new account.
Deleting the account will delete the photo stream photos from your device.  If you want to keep them, save them to your camera roll (if not already there) before deleting the account.  To do this, open your my photo stream album, tap Select, tap the photos, tap the share icon (square with up arrow), then tap Save to Camera Roll.

  • Forgot to sign out of old id and changed icloud email address and cant sign out of find my phone

I have a iphone 4s and changed icloud email address and forgot to sign out of find my phone. How can I turn it off to change to the new email address that I changed in icloud?

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • My icloud email will not load

    Hi!
My icloud email will not load.
On any computer, Mac or PC at the icloud.com it will not load and sends an error message to apple.
On my Mac it states that my password or email address is incorrect.  This is not true as I have changed it and all other apple accounts work.
On my iPhone it states my password is incorrect--it is not, again I have checked and re-entered it numerous times.
I have checked and done all the troubleshooting I can find.
I have checked all the communities and it seems some others are experiencing this same problem.
I have called apple support and (of course) they want me to pay for someone to help me--which I would do if this was an issue with my hardware or software.
I have an appointment today with the genius bar at my local store.
I believe this is an apple icloud server issue.
I would not be posting if this had not been happening since Christmas day.  It has been over a week since I have been able to retrieve my email.
If anyone can help that would be wonderful, but please do not refer me to the troubleshooting pages as I have researched them extensively.
    Thank you!

This same thing started for me today as well: None of my devices (iMac, MacBook 2 iPhones, iPad, 2 Apple TV's) which require Apple ID to work for mail, etc., would work this morning. I kept getting a message that my password or email address was incorrect. I was also notified my Apple ID password had "a security problem" and needed to be changed.
I was reluctant to change the password with my Apple ID, since I have been using it for nearly ten years, and will clearly never forget it. However, this old password only has six characters, all lower case. Apple now seems to want a password with at least eight characters, one of which is capitalized, etc. I went ahead and changed to a new 2012-model password, following Apple's guidelines, and voila, once I changed to that password on all of my devices they all work as they should!
What the heck? I guess I didn't have anything better to do between 10:00 and 11:00 am today anyway. While this seems like the right fix, I would have preferred it if Apple had sent out an advance notification that they are requiring more rigorous passwords, rather than just rejecting our old ones as a New Year's present. It would have saved some head scratching.

  • How to change icloud email? It wasn't me who made it. So every time I used my Apple ID is linked to that email?

How to change icloud email? It wasn't me who made it. So every time I used my Apple ID is linked to that email?

Once you have created an iCloud account and chosen an @icloud.com address to go with it you can't change that address (short of creating an entirely new account).
However, all is not lost. You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account or move it to another account.

  • HT204088 I have received an email with a receipt to my iCloud email for a purchase from a apple store in Perth Australia...it does not appear in my purchased list but why did I get the email

I have received a receipt to my email address from an apple store in Perth Australia. No purchase history on my iTunes account but clearly someone else appears to have given my iCloud email...has this happened to anyone before? Should I be worried that someone has access to my account and emails. I sent a query to Apple and received a generic non answer......typical.

The purchase history on your iTunes account will only show purchases from the iTunes stores (iTunes, app store, ibookstore, Mac app store), not from Apple online or bricks-and-mortar stores.
Does anything show on your credit card ? If the email is genuine then it's possible that your and their email addresses are similar and that they gave the wrong id (or the store typed it incorrectly), it doesn't necessarily mean that anybody has access to your account.
For the contact, you will initially just receive an acknowledgement email, the proper reply may take 24 (possibly 48) hours.

  • Changing icloud email adress in icloud profile

Hi, I know there is much on this subject on this forum but i can't find an answer to this specifically.
I want to keep my original iCloud profile
Originally I created an iCloud email adress and associated it with my iCloud account as an Alternative Email Adress
Then realised my full name was available as an email address in iCloud so I wanted that email instead
I tried to create the availble email address as a secondary address in my primary iCloud account but could't find a way.
Then I simpy created a new iCloud profile creating the preferred new email address e.g. [email protected]
The new iCloud profile is empty of course, as my real profile is another account
So I figure I can  merge the iCLoud profiles - is there a way?
Or I could simply associate the new address as an Alternate Email Address with my primary iCloud account
And here's the problem with suggestion in point 8!
As you can see below the new email address, which I own, is seen as someone else's email address.
How can I associate this new email address [email protected] with my primary icloud account???

I'm afraid you've boxed yourself into a corner by creating a new iCloud account with the address you wanted. That address is now permanently tied as the main address in the new account and there is nothing you can do to change it. You could have created an alias using that address in the older account, as suggested above, but now that option isn't available to you.
What you can do is to move over to using the new iCloud account, manually transferring your data to it. If you are also using the original address as the login for iTunes you will have to stick with that as purchases can't be moved from one account to another, but there's no problem about having different logins for iCloud and iTunes.

  • I signed into iCloud with an email account that I don't have now and can't remember my password changed it with apple but forgot about iCloud aim changing my phone over to virgin but can't back up my stuff. Is their anyway I can change iCloud email at all

    Hi
Can anyone help me I signed into iCloud with an email address that i can't use now I have forgotten the password I used have tried all the ones i would normally use. The problem is i am changing my phone to another provider but need to back up my stuff. Is their anyway I can change the email address? If I can't will I loose all my stuff of my phone it is an iPhone 4s
    Thanks

Is your phone signed into an old iCloud ID ("email address") and you need to change it to your current ID?  Is so, there is a way around this.
Otherwise, you can either try resetting your password at https://iforgot.apple.com or by contacting Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click More Products and Services>Apple ID>Other Apple ID Topics>Lost or forgotten Apple ID password, or you can back up your phone to your computer instead.  To do this, connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  Then go to File>Devices>Back Up.

  • How to change icloud email password on ipad7

I have posted messages about the ongoing problems I had had with not being able to send or receive my icloud emails and BT Yahoo emails for the past 3 weeks.  I have tried many processes as suggested on the Apple Support Communities and BT forum without any success.  I have just noticed that when I check my icloud email account on my ipad, the password is shorter than my new one which I changed a few weeks ago.  However, when I go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>icloud account and then update my password and click on Done, the details are verified and all the ticks appear correctly but when I go back into my account, the password reverts to the previous one.  I then tried to delete my icloud account but the message "If you delete your account, all documents and Photo Stream photos stored in icloud will be deleted from this ipad".  As I am not sure whether this means they will never be retrieved or are always stored in icloud (I also backed up my ipad last week), then I have not deleted it.  Can anyone please advise on any of these points above as I am absolutely desparate having spent many, many hours trying to rectify my 'cannot get mail' issues!

I'm sorry, but I know nothing about iCloud email. I stayed away from iCloud email and only use iCloud for limited purposes.
But take a look at this discussion and read the response from randers4. He is one of the iCloud experts in the Apple Support Communities.

  • Change iCloud email in iMessage/Facetime

A few weeks ago I changed my iCloud email address and I haven't found any trouble changing it everywhere EXCEPT for iMessage/Facetime..
When I go on my iPhone to Messages > Send & Receive > Use your Apple ID for iMessage
I keep getting the pop up that wants me to enter the Apple ID password for my PREVIOUS email address.
    - If I give in the old password to my new icloud email address it DOESN'T WORK
    - If I give in the new password to my new icloud email address it DOESN'T WORK
    - If I keep giving in the wrong password (for 5-6 times) it just says I need to reset the password to THAT OLD ICLOUD EMAIL ADDRESS.
I'm getting tired of this, why can't I just change the email address? I mean I see the box to change it but then EVERY SINGLE TIME the pop up goes over it and asks for that password...
Help please? This is really frustrating!

    Hi RaniDHulster,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Since both the Messages and Facetime apps are tied to your Apple ID, the first step is to sign out of these two apps and update the Apple ID information.  Then you should be able to turn the apps on again in Settings and enter the corrected Apple ID.  The links below will explain:
Apple ID: Changing your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621
Before you change your Apple ID:
Sign out of all Apple features and services that you use with your current Apple ID.
Make sure that the email address you want to use for your Apple ID meets these conditions:
The email address is one that you use regularly, because it will be the primary email address for your Apple ID.
The email address is not associated with any other Apple ID.
The email address is not an iCloud email address, which is already an Apple ID. iCloud email addresses end with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com.
Click on My Apple ID to access and edit your account.

hi on the ipod touch how do you change the email address for the icloud because the area is greyed out, i want to change the address because the account was hacked and is unusuable now i have a new email address but it wont allow me to change the address

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Firstly, you need to change your details with Apple,  Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

  • Changing icloud email

Okay.. so, a while back i have changed my apple ID and password through my itunes on my pc. Its still the exact same account just has different credentials now. Ever since then i can never really get rid of the old email on my phone. For example i can buy apps and music on my phone and on my itunes on my pc with the new email and everything works fine, but one thing i cannot figure out is icloud. When i go into settings>icloud>account on my iphone the old email is still there not the new one that i changed it to. And i cant change it. The email field is gray with the old email in it and you cant edit it. The only thing that it allows me to do is type in the password, but thats not possible since technically that account no longer exists since i changed both the email and the password to my apple id. I cant even delete this icloud account because once again it asks for the password. I dont know how to get around this problem but it's begining to really annoy me :(

To change the iCloud account you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
