Changing Icon on M$ XP task bar

Hi,
In Windows XP (Windows NT), when you open multiple windows of a program, the programs become inconisized and grouped together under one menu icon with a name. For instance, opening Windows Explorer multiple times creates a menu on the task bar that displays the Windows Explorer Icon, the number of windows open, and the title of the program--Windows Explorer.
However, when I run my Java programs multiple times (or make many frames within a program) and iconisized them, they appear on the task bar as a menu with a little white window icon with a blue title, the number of windows (frames) open, and "java" or "javaw" beside it.
I know how to add icons to frames. What I don't know is how to keep my icon on the task bar when the windows (frames) or applicaitions become grouped. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Spent 4 hours looking all over Sun's site, trying to find an answer. I've even tried to download some open source programs and tried to disect them to find the code. Sample code would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
J Apprentice

I think I know what you mean, but if you think about it, what is Windows actually running?
Windows itself, is running the java or javaw program, hence why the menu bar is displaying java or javaw, plus the number of instances of the program that you have open. Much like 5 or 6 instances of Explorer being grouped, 5 or 6 instances of java would be grouped (by the wya, I'm guessing here, coz I don't use XP).
However, if the main jFrame for each of these java programs has been correctly assigned a title, does that not make a difference with regards to what is actually displayed on the taskbar???
Anyone else got an idea?

  • Satellite P10-804: How to enable the battery icon visible on the task bar?

how do I do enable the battery icon visible on the task bar? currently I can only have the type of power save mode e.g. bulb & colour.
I have tried to activate right clicking taskbar/properties/notification areas, found required icon & instructed to always show, however the batery icon remains hidden.
    Help??

One question: Did you try to set several settings in the Windows own power options?
However, I would say some registry keys are corrupt and therefore the battery icon cannot be displayed in the task manager.
Probably only the new installation can help you displaying the icon in the task bar.

  • I drag Firefox icon onto quick launch task bar, but it disappears everytime upon Windows start-up.

I had Firefox in my quick launch task bar. One day it disappeared. I dragged the Firefox icon from "Programs" to the quick launch bar. It also showed up in C:\documents and settings\owner\ Application data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\. But every time upon Windows start-up, the Firefox icon appears for a few seconds and then disappears. The entry in C:\documents and settings\owner\ Application data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\ also is no longer there.

I have had a lot of problems with Vi-View infecting Firefox recently but I have successfully removed it. In the process of removed and re-installed Firefox. On re-installation, Firefox works perfectly. However, if I close the program and attempt to reopen it I have a problem. An icon appears in the task bar and if I hover over it, it shows a normal Firefox start tab. However, I cannot maximise the screen to use the program. If I try to bring it up, a reduced size image flies off to the right of the screen. I have IE11 and Chrome installed and I have checked them to ensure Vi-view is no longer present on the machine to ensure this virus was not the problem.
My operating system is Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit.
Any assistance gratefully received. I don't want to stop using Firefox.

Many thanks for the quick reply. I have done as you suggested. I ran SFC, which did not report any errors. I copied to a USB stick and then deleted all traces of Firefox from my machine, not only in the "Programs" directory but also in "AppData". I downloaded the UK specific Firefox Full Installer and reloaded the application.
Everything is now working exactly as it should and Firefox is back as my default browser.
    Thanks again for your help.

The lock rotation has turned on I have no idea how there is no icon on the bottom task bar can anyone help please

You have the lock icon towards the top right of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If you do then which iPad do you have ? If it's not the iPad Air 2 then you should have a Settings > General > Use Side Switch To option which controls what the switch on the side of the iPad, above the volume control does - if that is set to 'Lock Rotation' then you use that switch on the side to turn rotation on/off
If there isn't a lock icon at the top right then try a soft-reset and see if that gets the iPad to rotate again : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Thinkvantage Toolbox icon on the Windows Task Bar

I have tried removing the Thinkvantage icon from the task bar; but it returns when I reboot.  Am I missing something?

ok, you guys are going to love me, or everyone else having this issue at least.   Its not a total fix, but asthesically it works.
Issue: Thinkvantage Toolbox icon hijacks the "explorer" icon.
    to get it back
first if you have modified the properties of Thinkvantage Toolbox - then change it back.
Start > all programs > Thinkvantage Toolbox > right click > properties > target = (paste this in there)
    C:\Windows\explorer.exe ::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\2\::{A8A91A66-3A7D-4424-8D24-04E180695C7A}\Provider%5CMicrosoft.Base.DeviceDisplayObjects//DDO:%7B00000000-0000-0000-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF%7D\cat{8AA6B0C2-14A6-4da8-BF36-F7D93ACE9ACE}
Next - right click on the pinned Thinkvantage Toolbox icon > right click where it says Thinkvantage Toolbox > target = %windir%\explorer.exe > in the same window > Change icon > the look for icons path is corrupt > paste %windir%\explorer.exe in the bar, then choose the "folder" icon. > OK > OK > DONEEE!!!!!
Thinkvantage Toolbox = opens Thinkvantage Toolbox
windows explorer icon = opens libraries directory.
    You're welcome.

  • How do i get firefox windows to show as discrete icons on windows 8 task bar

On my windows xp computers each firefox window is displayed as a discrete icon on the task bar, enabling me to jump quickly from one to another just with one click. On my windows 8 computer they display as like a deck of cards, and to change from one to another, one has to hover the mouse over the stack until a preview appears, then move the mouse to the correct one, then click it on. This is annoying and giving me RSI of the wrist. Is there a way to get the icons to display as they do on XP. Oh, and Mozilla, can you please fore the person responsible for making these bad changes, of which this is just one example.

I'm really sorry, but you're blaming the wrong guys. Windows 8's interface is just designed that way. If you'll notice, for example: you can't have multiple Microsoft PowerPoint icons, just a "deck of cards".
Mozilla can't just come in and mess with the OS, so the "deck of cards" is about the best they can do.
However, I can recommend a little trick that'll make life just a bit easier.
Instead of hovering your cursor over the Firefox icon on the taskbar, <b>click</b> it. The preview will display immediately. After doing this, you actually have more options:
    <ol>
<li>Use the mouse to select the desired window.</li>
<li>Use the arrow keys to select the desired window.</li>
    </ol>
Cool! It won't be the same as Windows XP, but at least you can have the peace-of-mind that support for your OS won't be discontinued in the near future.

  • Missing Email Icon Stamp from my Task Bar

My email stamp icon is missing from my tak bar how do I retrieve it?

you mean your Dock? Does it show up there when Mail is running and goes away when Mail isn't running?
If this is the case, when Mail is running and the icon is visible on your Dock, control-click (or right-click if so equipped) on the icon and select the "Keep In Dock" option. That will keep it there when not running.
The Mail program is in the "Applications" folder.
If the icon does not show on your Dock when Mail is running, that's a different issue.

  • Firefox 4 is not appearing in Task bar or some times it is Disappearing from task bar when i am minimising the window. so, i had to go to Task manager and find the icon. Its becoming big messy if tabs are not found , to switch programmes.

I am unwilling to attempt navigation away from these sites. The pop-ups that occur on the attempt to leave a site or to close the browser are exit traps offering incentive to stay.
Once upon a time, when the internet was less dangerous, I would be willing to close the exit pop-ups. Now, after twice being infected with malware trying to close the pop-ups, I now force close whichever browser I am using.
Recently, I clicked on the red X to close one pop-up, and it installed a trojan that I had to pay to be removed. When I clicked on 'Leave' in another exit pop, it didn't exit and it turned out I was giving permission to run a script file. Now that criminals have learned these exit pop-ups can be used to force a click action, the sites using them have become dangerous.
If I force the browser to close using Task manager, Please tell me how to stop FireFox from sending me directly back to the same site because it mistakenly believes it crashed when it did not. I forced it to close because I was on a site that had taken control of my browser and was not allowing me to leave the site.
No other browser sends me back to the potentially dangerous sites. I prefer Firefox, but the new version must have a setting that allows me to get safely away from a problem site?

  • Multiple icons in task bar

I have Firefox pinned to my task bar. Since updating to 9.0.1 when I click on the icon a second icon appears in the task bar. They both function properly. The second one shows tab previews of the first one but not visa versa. I have been through my options many times and can't find anything that covers this. It makes no sense to have duplicate icons which leads me to believe something is wrong. And if something is just a little wrong now it won't be long until it is very wrong. Is it something I did?

Thank you for your suggestion. About:config had hundreds of prefs and I had no idea what any of them were about. My grandson offered a solution that was very simple and corrected the problem. I simply right clicked on the second icon and pinned it to the task bar then unpinned the first icon. Problem solved. He thought it was because the first icon was opening up a newer version of Firefox. Apparently he was correct. Thank you again for your suggestion. Now I know where all the preferences hide.

  • My firefox icons like FIRE BUG, REMINDERFOX in my task bar (lower right corner) are not a 100% visible, I think they are underneath the task bar of my computer. I barely see them but i can't click on them. Please if someone can help it will be great.

Excuse my technical language. When everything was normal, I had icons on my computer task bar (bottom of my screen) from my programs and from Firefox, but now the icons from Firefox Add-ons like the Firebug, ReminderFox and AniWeather are barely visibles, I can still see them behind this task bar but I can't click on them. It looks like they are behind a thin coat of glass. If someone can help, please do I will appreciate it.

    Hi Mariah ~
It's Shaunn, the original poster. Thanks for your posting. I'm glad I'm not the only one that's having this problem.
Now that you mention it, I'm having the exact same problem on Facebook as well, when I play Family Feud.
I wish someone would investigate and post a solution to this problem. No-one from Playlist has responded, and no-one "Officially" from Firefox either.
So Mariah, I appreciate you and your post.
If you find anything out...from anywhere...would you please let me know. You can post it right here and I'll get an email from Firefox.
I'll do the same for you.
Enjoy your day and good luck.
