Changing icons on the dock

Hi,
i just get some new funny icons i'd install on my dock instead of the defaults one.
Anybody knows how i get to it?

First, you need to change the application's icon in the Finder window. Some utilities exist to do this for you. And an application called ShapeShifter will apply sets of icons to your whole entire computer.
They can be added indiviudally if you only want to change a select few icons.
-First, open a Finder window
-Find your application, Right/Control-click on the app, and choose "Get Info..."
-You will see a tiny version of the icon at the top left corner. Click on it, and you will see a blue area around it, indicating that you've selected it.
-Now find your icon, and Get Info on this file. Select it in the left corner and then choose "EDIT > COPY"
-Then select the app's Get Info window, select the icon, and paste it.
-You may need to take the icon off the dock and then put the new icon into the dock to update the icon.
Version Tracker You cam find all different sorts of apps here to change your icons, as well as the app ShapeShifter.

  • Changing icons on the dock back to the originals

I changed most of the icons on my dock to the ones that resemble a periodic table. I did this by clicking "get info" on the application and copying and pasting the new icon into the icon slot. I was wondering how I could go back to the old original icons for the apps. Thanks in advance.

If you open the Get Info window, you can select the icon in the upper left corner the same way you originally put the icon there. But instead of pasting, either cut (+X) or press the delete key. Should be back to normal.

  • How do I change icons in the dock (iPhone 5, iOS 7)

Seems a fairly simple question I can't seem to find an answer to. One used to be able to change these in the normal way, by holding down an icon until the screens starts shaking then dragging into the dock. It seems now though in iOS 7 that one no longer has control over what's in the dock. Am I missing something?

Nevermind... It still works in the same way. Couldn't get it for some reason before.

  • CANNOT change Icons in the dock or other places like I used to in 10.5.8

I found a nice set of icons that I would like to set to my MBP that I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. So far I really haven't had any real problems that I wasn't able to work through except for this one. I've even opened up the "Info" box and changed the sharing and the permissions and changed them so that as an administrator I could change the icon but no luck! On my G5 tower I have no problem at all using the standard procedure but when I apply it to my laptop it just doesn't want to work. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks

I've been playing around with that problem for a bit now: Apple changed it with Leopard and Snow Leopard and it's not as easy as it was with Tiger... but I found a way around it:
When you control click on any of your folders (to the right of the System Prefs icon), you need to have the following checked:
    Sort by: Name
    Display as: Folder
    View content as: List
Having changed icons dozens of times, I found that any other setting will keep your pretty icon within a Finder window, but as soon as move it to the Dock, it'll revert to the stock view.
So, once you choose above settings, go ahead and change an icon on one of your folders and then drag it into the dock. It should work - mine have been there for 2 weeks now.

  • Changing Icons in the dock size

Ok, so I go to various sites and get Mac Icons. I have a Wall-E picture pack, comic book hero picture pack, etc.
Except the icon they show on the download screen is so much bigger. When I put them in the dock, they're much smaller. I have seen Mac desktop shots online that users post and the icons are bigger.
I have tried the sliders for the Dock and it barely does anything.
Do I need to get a program to resize them?

How many apps do you have in your Dock? The more apps you have, the smaller they necessarily have to be. If you don't want to reduce the number of apps, the other recourse, if you want to see the icons larger, is to turn on magnification (right-click on the dock separator, Turn Magnification On).

You should consider downloading the 10.6.8 combo updater and applying it again.

  • After You Drag an Icon Into the Dock, Can You Change the Way it Looks?

I work with files that are on a few Windows servers, so I can't change the icons of any files or folders that are on those servers. I've dragged each of the servers' icons into my dock so I can access them quickly, but all the icons in the dock look the same. Is there a way I can change the icons in the dock that represent those servers? There's no "Get Info" for them so you can't copy and paste the same way you can with folder/file icons that reside on your hard drive.
I created an alias (shortcut), copied it onto my desktop, changed that icon, then dragged that into my dock, and then deleted all the original aliases, but it doesn't hold the link, so I want to be able to drag the server icon into the dock and then access that icon and change it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

Anything on this yet? The whole "alias/shortcut" thing didn't work. I actually got it to work but after restarting the computer the icons in the dock show as question marks.
Isn't there a resource file or something I can dig into to change those icons in the dock?
    Thanks...

  • I was changing the appearance of the icons in the dock....

I was changing the appearance of the icons in the dock.  And I decided to try doing the same thing to the icon in the sidebar in Finder.  I ended up making one icon into a grey square.  How do I restore the original sidebar icon?

I found an easy solution (it doesn't require the operating system to be reinstalled). And here's what my finder sidebar looks like now:
Just follow the simple instructions here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjiVTcCvMTI&feature=youtu.be

  • Seeing multiple iPhoto libraries when I click on the iPhoto icon in the dock?

I can't figure out why I am seeing multiple iPhoto libraries when I click on the iPhoto icon in my dock.  I am running Lion on an early 2008 MacBook Pro (4 GB RAM), and when I click and hold on the iPhoto icon in the dock, it brings up a dialog box.  From top to bottom, this is what I see:
    iPhoto Library
    iPhoto LIbrary
    iPhoto Library
    Options
    Show Recents
    Open
I can't figure out why it shows three iPhoto libraries when I only have one on my computer.  I've tried deleting the icon from the dock and then putting it back in the dock, but it still shows three libraries for some reason.  If I search for iPhoto in spotlight search or in finder, it only shows one iPhoto (in the applications folder).  Any help on how to resolve this weird issue would be much appreciated!

I have the same issue.  I see four iPhoto libraries when I right click on the iPhoto icon in the dock, but I only actually have two libraries.  The other two simply do not exist on my computer.  And when I click on the libraries that do not exist, obviously nothing happens.  In the image, only the bottom two libraries are actual photo libraries.  The top two do not exist.
I have relaunched Finder, restarted the computer, and even restored the entire computer from my Time Machine backup.  Nothing changes.  No matter what I try, the non existent iPhoto libraries continue to be present when I right click the iPhoto icon in the dock.  BTW, there are only two iPhoto libraries in the pictures folder.
This is very frustrating and annoying.

You can setup Mail for iCloud on the eMac.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

I see in my friend's Mac that the icons in the dock become bigger when the user hovers over them with the mouse pointer. Mine don't change when I hover over them. Am I missing something?

Go to the Apple Menu > System Preferences > then click on the Dock icon.
    Check the box for Magnification:
Close the Preferences Pane and you should be good to go.

  • How to keep MS excel icon in the dock at iMac of guest sharing account

    Dear All
May i know how to keep MS excel icon in the dock at iMac of guest sharing account.
    Thank a lot
    Raymond

It's normal for the Guest account to return to a default state after logging out. Applications can still be opened from the Applications & other folders.
You can add things to the Dock, & make other changes, using Workgroup Manager 10.8
although it's not especially intuitive or forgiving. Post again if you want to try it.

  • When clicking on the Finder icon in the dock the Main Menu grays out ... what's wrong ... how do I fix?

    Product: iMac, OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
Processor: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 32 GB 160 MHz DDr3
    Storage: 3.12 TB Fusion Drive
    PROBLEMS:
    1. When clicking on the Finder icon in the dock, the main menu grays out and the window with documents, applications etc., does not pop up.
    2. iMac is not showing up in iCloud.com and, not syncing with my MacBook Pro, iPad Mini and iPhone.
This situation seemed to appear after doing updates on my iMac.
    TROUBLESHOOTING I'VE TRIED:
    1. rebooted,
    2. repaired permissions,
    3. booted in safe-mode and let the basic tests run then rebooted to normal mode. Afterwards, the problem seemed to be corrected, however, it re-appeared shortly thereafter and still exists.

Go to the Finder's General preference pane and reset the New Finder windows show: option.  Try changing it to some other folder, try it and then back again.
If that doesn't jump start it try moving the com.apple.finder.plist file from your Home/Library/Preferences folder to the Desktop, reboot and then reset the Finder preferences.
For Mavericks and Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
