Changing ID3 Tags and not updating in ipod?
copyed some mp3 to the ipod, disconnected,
now tryed to update artist name and album in itunes,connected the ipod again and the old info is staying in the ipod, not the new tags..

IF you wnat o manually sync, there are not other options. Drag teh new songs to the iPod.
If you want to manage what goes onto the iPod, you can autosync only selected playlists instead of putting everything in iTunes onto the iPod.
Create playlist(s) with what you want on the iPod.
Select the iPod.
Uncheck *Manually manage music*.
Click the Music tab.
Tick *Sync Music* and tick *Selected playlists*.
Tick the playlist you want on the iPod.
Add/remove from these playslist to control what goes onto the iPod.

I'm playing with my new Xtra and enjoying it. I will want to jigger many of the tags to organize the genres and artists better.
) The software stored the albums (as I requested) under Artist/Album. If I shift an album under a different artist name, I assume it will not automatically change the tags for the artist. (For instance, I have a few "Elvis Costello" and a few "Elvis Costello and the Imposters"... I want them all under the same artist name).
2) Can I change the basic tags (Artist, Album, Genre and even Track #) using Create MediaSource Organizer, or should I download a decent/free ID3 tag program recommended on various guru FAQs?
3) Here's my real question: Once I alter the tag on a track I've already loaded onto the player, I will want to replace it with the updated tags. If I re-transfer, will it overlay the tracks with the updated ones -- or will it create duplicates? Do I need to delete the album or tracks from my player before sending them back over?

Well you can only edit tags using the PC. I meant with respect to which data source you use, the player itself (when connected to the PC) or the files on the PC's hard dri've.
The "move" would be just taking a subfolder ("album") and moving under a different "artist" folder -- in Explorer. I figured also that I'd still have to change the tags (the ripping program reads the tags and creates the directories, but I assumed the intelligence doesn't go another way).
Ah right. Yes, you have to change the tags themselves. It doesn't automatically realise the folder has changed, although you can get many programs which will use folder and filename data to generate the tag.
So I should grab a tagging program, and plan to "Delete From Player" and "Re-Transfer From PC." Not as bad as it sounds, as I can delete whole albums at once from the Player.
It's certainly the method I use. It really depends on what approach suits you.
I saw the list of tag programs on your FAQ -- are the "free" ones good enough? Is there a real advantage in the shareware or paid programs (other than the one you cite on Nomadsync).
I've never bought a tag editing program, and have used 2 or 3. I prefer overall though, but some don't like the UI. Best to check some out.
Nomadsync is listed in the programs to copy files. Remember that Nomadsync is not a tag editor, it's a program for copying files. -
When my iPod Touch is connected to my Mac, and I select Update to update the software of my iPod Touch, I get a message saying that my iTunes software is current, but it will not update my iPod Touch software. Is there a bug in the iPod program?

Itunes does not read id3 tags and its a problem
Ok I have 60 gig of music and all of it is labeled correctly in id3 tags. But when i add them all to itunes some of the songs are blank with no information at all but if i go into "show in explorer" the information in the id3 tags instantly pops up. I'v searched google and found nothing so i hope someone can tell me a fix or another program to use that will organise my music like itunes does and also can put music on my ipod. So please help me with the problem.
ThanksIt doesn't work. I'v already tried that. I'v even tried converting the id3 tags and then removing them from the libray and adding them again. Still nothing. It might help if someone could tell me where itunes gets it information for its tags when you add music to its libray seeing as it doesn't use id3 tags for the information like any smart program does.

It sounds like you may have a 2nd generation iPod Touch. If so, 4.2.1 is the highest iOS. Please note there was never a 2nd Generation 8gB version of the iPod Touch.

How To Permanently Change ID3 Tags With iTunes
Okay, so here's the deal. I've seen this question in several places, but I can't find a working answer, so I decided to give it a shot.
My goal: change ID3 tag info with my song collection in iTunes so that my changes stick permanently.
Now let me explain. I am picky about what info I want for a song. Anytime I add a song to my collection, I am specific about what info I want to keep and what I want to get rid of. What I keep: Song title, Artist info, album info and genre. I get rid of everything else, like track/disc number, year, comments, and etc.
To further my point, I'll explain how I go about what brings me to the problem. After I have an album with all songs I want from it, I add the folder to the iTunes library but I don't make any changes yet (I don't have the option checked for iTunes to add copies of the songs to the iTunes folder). Then I select all songs and convert them to 128kbs mp3s with v2.3 ID3 tags. Then I edit all the song info to what I mentioned before in the Get Info box. After a few plays, the track/disc numbers, years, and comments come back, but song title/artist info/album info don't change and the album artwork I added remains. I tried the opposite, editing all the info after adding the songs to the library THEN converting...same problem. I tried a third-party program, MP3tag, before and after converting, both with the same result. I even tried adding something to all comment boxes in iTunes to sync the libraries...that didn't work either. I also tried with that option of adding copies to the library checked and it still didn't work.
I want a solution to where my changes in iTunes of removing the track/disc numbers, years, and comments from songs will be permanent and not come back.
Also, this problem has remained through every new version of iTunes released up to the current version as of the time I am typing this.There may be a number of things going on. iTunes has a problem updating files with multiple tags, e.g. both id3v1 and id3v2.x. Sometimes it seems it can update one copy of the tag, but then read back data from the other. It may also have problems if file security settings are incorrect, in which case it will appear to make a change, but then reveal the original data next time it accesses the track in some way. WMP may also be involved in magially restoring data that you've deleted. Getting iTunes & Windows Media Player to play nicely.
As to the issue with comments, are these general things or strings of digits like this? 00000000 00000210 00000770 0000000000103000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000. I've a feeling that patterns of digits such as these are in some way connected to gapless playback and are supposed to be hidden from view, but that may be wild speculation. Again it is even possible that WMP rather than iTunes creates them.
One way that might work is, having edited tracks to the values you want, use the option Convert id3 tags > None a few times, then Convert id3 tags > v2.3.
While I'm all for people having things the way they want them I really can't see how your library could be improved by not having track, disc, or year values. Without disc and track numbers albums will play out of sequence. Why not just turn off the columns that hold no interest for you?

Aif tags are not updated by iTunes
I use iTunes as my media manager but play them in DJ software like Traktor. Recently I started using AIF files. When I import them I add new information to the 'Comment' field in iTunes. I then play them in Traktor.
The Comment ID3 tag is not being updated by iTunes, which means that other applications cannot see this data.
To replicate:
1. Import an AIF file with a Comment tag (I purchase them at beatport.com)
2. Change the Comment tag to something else
3. Reveal the file in Finder.
4. Get Info for the file or look at it using an ID3 tag editor.
5. The Comment has not been updated.
The strange thing is that after some time iTunes picks up the comment field (perhaps when the file is updated by another app?) and then changes it in iTunes. This is the worst of both worlds, because the data I put into the field gets lost!
Has anyone else seen this sort of problem?

How can I change ID3 Tags on my songs in the cloud?
I changed them on my ITunes (Windows) but they are not synced in the Cloud.I just did some tests on my setup: iPhone/iMac (Master iTunes library)/MacBook
the tags will only sync well from MacBook to iMac!
if I change a tag on the iMac (which I did change before on my MacBook) then the change goes back to the MacBook, but not if it's a first time edit!
That process usually takes between 5 and 30 seconds.
on the iPhone I can't really change much (besides the rating) which seems to get synced properly in both ways...
Lyrics I couldn't yet get to work to be synced...
I do have Lyrics on my MacBook (so they seem to be in the cloud) but I cannot get them to be updated/changed on the other device (the other Mac). on my iPhone I don't have lyrics at all -
Itunes is messing up ID3 tags and song info.
I am wondering, why is itunes keeps on changing ID3 tags.
For example. All my "The Thunderlords" songs have been changed to"thunderlords,the" Which I do not like. AC/DC got changed to DC/ac and the art was gone. Random comment such as "0" have been added to nearly every song. The album "The Wall" has been labled as "Wall, The" I do not like this >_> is THE wall not wall the. What the .... is wall the? It's not like I go around says "what heck the?" or "halo above his head the" I'm not Yoda! I'd just like to know how to stop itunes from editing this without my permission.

Message was edited by: iRockersWelcome to the world of Gracenotes. This is the database that Itunes reads to name your files. Apple pays a royalty to these clowns and this is what you get; misspellings and just plain wrong info.
I constantly sort and edit my 1300 CD collection so I would suggest you learn to do the same within iTunes. If the author names are reversed, fix one then copy. Itunes will let you select and change multiple fields once you learn to do multiple selection..not hard but tedious at times.
Apple needs to threaten to let us use the free CDDB for an alternate look up and a swap button on authors names, and so forth.. -
My iPod Touch Gen 5 will no longer synch with iTunes on my computer. Only change since this happened is update to iPod to OS 8.1.1 iPod synch remains stuck in "Step 8 of 8"
On your computer go to the control panel (hover in the lower right corner) then programs, add/remove programs
Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application Support then go to apple.com and redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again.
You won't lose any content, you're not deleting that, just the programs that access them.
What is thought to happen is that sometimes a new version of itunes doesn't update the drivers in those other two programs. The only way to update the drivers is to force it by uninstalling the programs which allows itunes to write the correct ones.
My iPad and iPod did exactly the same thing and this is how I fixed it. -

I have a Zen Neeon and the currently playing song appears on the screen as only a title. There is no artist. All my songs are tagged with ID3 v and 2. The only way I can get the player to scroll Artist - Title is by removing all ID3 tags and having the filename be Artist - Title.mp3 (it does not display the .mp3 extension when playing a track). Is this the way it works? I was under the impression from the FAQs and a little snooping that Zens could read ID3 tags? Obviously they can because it gets the track title information out fine, but not the artist. Is there a simple option I'm missing?

I have noticed that itunes imports the music files before I alter the ID3 tags (from backup files). However, as soon as I try to add the same file to my itunes library after I have edited the ID3 file (via windows itself), itunes does not add the file to its library anymore. This is happening to a considerable amount of my music. When I try to play the same files in windows mediaplayer, they play without a problem, so I guess the problem is with itunes.
Somebody can please help me out, because I like to be in control of my music, and not itunes,

ITunes will not update my iPod
I plugged my iPod into my computer and iTunes will not respond to it. It will not add any of my new songs and it will not update my iPod. I have iTunes version 7.2 and when I plug my iPod in, it does not show up under "devices". Even when i put a CD in, it does not do anything. I do not know what to do. I have tried doing the four R's or whatever its called. But it does not work. Can anyone help?

I was trying to update my ipod for ios 6. It got downloaded but could not update my ipod. my ipod screen is now showing one message usb -up arrow-itunes, can anyone suggest something please.
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. -

I understand that you have changed your phone number but your iCloud Keychain verification number is still your old phone number. You can edit this phone number in your iCloud settings on your iPhone. Please use the attached article for information on the process.
