Changing images' formats in .PSD files.

How can I change these without copying single images to new files, changing there and copying back?
e.g. I've pasted some large tiffs into one .psd and want to convert them to jpgs, keeping the rest of my .psd as it is.

Most image formats are disc-based, meaning that the format change takes place while saving the file. If you have a .psd and want a jpeg, SAVE IT as a jpeg, etc. -- This has advantages: there is potentially a lot more information in the psd file than the jpeg, so it is wise to retain the psd, as well as the jpeg you need in the moment.

  • Unspported Image format with PSD RGB files

I been using Aperture from the first day it became available. My file are either RAW or PSD files. Lately I have been creating panoramic images in Photoshop and importing them into Aperture. All the images are RGB PSD files. My understanding is that Aperture support these formats, but I have three images that can not be viewed in Aperture. All I get is the Unsupported image Format. I have rebuild my library. Resaved the images, double checked and recheck to make sure the images are RGB, Reinstalled Aperture. Nothing works. Sometimes the image can been seen in Aperture but as I work the images are replaced by the unsupported Image Format error. I would like to published my images to my site and print the image out of Aperture for shows. Any suggestions on how to fix this issues.

How big are the files? It's easily possible to generate Photoshop files that are too big -- e.g. PSB files which can be 2 GB or more in size -- if you are stitching.
Also note you should have "maximize compatibility" turned on in Photoshop -- this saves a flattened layer in the file so it can be properly displayed in Aperture, given Aperture itself doesn't understand the layers. I don't think this latter thing is your issue though.

There are a number of third party solutions for this.  I just use Bridge, so can't recommend one in particular.

  • Changing an image in a PSD file

Another quick question. How can I change an image in a psd website template file? The file I'm referring to is www.cfour11.com/index.psd
Again, I new and just learning. Thank you again for all your help.

Everything is on its own layer so it makes it easy to adjust.
To add the logo on the green background in the top left corner, find the green background first. It's this layer here (inside Images Folder in Layers Panel):
To stay organized, it's best if you add image directly above the green background. If it's the image file you want to add, then do this:
    1. Select highlighted Layer in the Layers Panel.
    2. Go to the menu: File->Place, and navigate to the file you want to add here. When the image appears inside Photoshop, you'll see handles around the image which allow you to resize it. When done, just press Enter.
Regarding your second question, the images you are talking about are here:
Hide them by clicking on Eyeball icons in front of the layers, and then Place new images in the same way as above.
    I hope this helps.
    Any questions, just ask.

  • Can I place an clipped eps image into a PSD file?

    WINDOWS
    CS2 Photoshop
I just started using CS2 - Can I place an eps image (saved with a clip path created in PSD) into a PSD file? I used to be able to do that in PSD 7.
When I place the eps file into PSD, I don't get the clip I get the entire image.
I made sure that I saved the file with the clip path.
Any thoughts? Thanks for the help.

Not that I'm aware of. The whole vector stuff has been changed for CS2, including completely revised file format loaders and later on the addition of smart objects of course, which of course is what you would do in CS3...

  • Unsupported Image Format Error- Damaged files???

I have been working a series of pictures (all .jpg) and doing some editing. Pictures were fine.
I went back in today and a fair number of pictures are now indicating unsupported image format and just show red. I can see the image in the thumbnail and briefly if I press "M" or click on the red background. The image will flash and then go back to the red-background with "unsupported image format" message.
    What happened?
Can I get back to the Master somehow and save the image?
Are there certain edits you shouldn't try in a .jpg (vs. RAW) file??
I am afraid to do more work on the pictures for fear of damaging more files.
    Thanks.

    Hi Pittsburgh,
I don't have a quick fix except to go and find the master file. If you're using a referenced file, this should be easy enough; just navigate to the place you're storing all the masters. If you're storing all your master files in your Aperture library, this can be opened by right-clicking the library icon, and selecting "Show package contents". You might need to do this 3 or 4 times to navigate through the library, folders, projects and import groups etc, but it is possible to dig right down to the originals.
Once you've found the original file, how does it look? Can you open it with other apps? (Be careful not to save any changes to this file). Is the file there?
If you can answer this question, you'll give us more info to work with and a better chance at resolving your problem.
Of course you could look up this problem in your manual, or Time Machine back a while and restore either file or the project. But these are last ditch efforts (the manual especially

  • How can I access the thumbnail/preview image of a PSD file?

Hey guys I'm trying to salvage some work from a corrupted PSD file via the thumbnail. What happened was I saved my work and closed photoshop and hit the reset button on my PC afterwards by mistake (i dont see why this caused a problem because the program was fully closed at the time). When I open the file now it says it uses an unsupported blending mode, if i press ok I get an error saying incompatible PS version, if I press flatten it says unexpected end of file was encountered. Ive tried PSD repair tools and searched the net for solutions and there doesnt seem to be any - Ive pretty much given up on trying to repair the original file.
The thing is, the thumbnail of the file seems to be intact because I can still see it as the file icon. I wanted to know if there was any way i can access this thumbnail image so i can enlarge it. Any help would be very appreciated!!

I have an idea to try...  Earlier I mentioned the Windows Picture Viewer...  Normally that won't read PSD files, but I'm used to using that to look into PSD files because at one point I bought the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack.
Something to try, and it won't cost anything:
    1.  Try downloading and installing the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack from here:  http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/
    2.  Once it's installed you get a free trial period, so you can try opening your PSD file by right-clicking on it and choosing Preview.
If that fails, here's another thing to try:
Open the Bridge component of Photoshop and navigate to the folder in which you have the file.  It may be able to make a larger thumbnail than the one you're seeing.
Other than that, are you saying you're seeing the thumbnail in Windows Explorer?  If that's the case, what happens if you right-click in the white space near the file and choose View - Extra Large Icons?

  • Possible to change date format when importing files into Aperture 3

Just wondering if it is possible to change the format of the date from YYYY-MM-DD to YYYYMMDD when you rename files as they are imported into Aperture 3? I typically rename my files and insert my initials, date the photo was taken, sequence number, camera used and original file name. When I do this in Aperture 3, the date format used includes dashes. I would like to have the file renamed without the dashes in the date. Is this possible?

You should be able to edit the format in the import presets. I have done this for folder stucture of imports, I believe you can do the same for the file renaming. At the bottom of the drop down box for file naming at improt should be an edit option which brings up the import naming presets, select the "YYYY-MM-DD" and remove the dashes.

  • Changing image format on articles to tablets

I can only see the image format options when creating a new article, how/where do I change the format on existing articles?

At this time, the only way to change the image format is by deleting the existing article and then creating a new one. When you create a new article, you specify the image format.
PDF format page can be viewed in the Content Viewer. You can pinch and zoom on any page that does not have any interactive overlays. At this time, there is no searching/selecting text.

My boss has given me a m4v file so I can adapt some of the images used. He used Motion 5 which I now have and chose a pre-set template but the 'layers' seem to go on top the video not change / edit the original file?

    No, for sure:
a  m4v is no Motion-project-file, containing all elements, groups and layers separately.
It's a 'consolidated', solid video, which indeed  allows only to apply 'on top' changes. (or 'cuts')
If you want to edit the 'layers', you need the original project.motn file ..

  • Why do my video timings, specially in the parts where there are titles get changed when changing the format in a file converter?

Hi, i am currently working on a project in NSTC format but seem to have a technical problem. I have exported it (in wmv.) but i want to convert it to MP4 (iPod) and DVD format. Now, I have tried to convert the video with many pieces of software and they all seem to change my timings (e.g a title is shown before it should). This doesnt happen in the .wmv file but it seems to happen on both DVD and NSTC. Am I doing something wrong in premiere or is it another problem?
    Thanks in advance

I am not sure that I am following. You have a Sequence in PrP, and have your Titles positioned and their Duration set, as you need. (I'm assuming Lower Thirds, or similar). Your preview verifies that everything is proper and satisfactory. Then, when you Export to certain formats, the Titles have "moved," so that they no longer accompany the proper visual from, say Video Track 1. Is that correct? If so, I am sorry to say that I have no idea how that could happen. I just want to get clarification on the exact problem, and will consider what could be afoot. Also, others will likely benefit from a bit more info.

  • Photo syncing through iTunes changes image format?

I wonder if somebody might be able to enlighten me. I synced some photos through iTunes from Mac Book to my iPhone photo library. These were png images with out a background they registered fine in my camera roll but when synced they not only changed format from png to jpg but they also had a white square background. Is here any way to remedy this??? Any help is much appreciated.

I found the answer to my issue and it was a corrupted plist.  I removed the
         com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
I decided to try that since the modified date for that plist was the most recent.
Those preference list are in the user folder/Library/Preferences.

    Hello
We are currently having a beta for Measurement Studio. This is a public beta where we let customers evaluate beta software versions of the next release of Measurement Studio. If you can go to the beta site ( http://ni.com/beta ) and sign up for the Measurement Studio beta, you can evaluate this behavior in the newer CWGraph control and see if it provides you the desired behavior.
The main reason you are seeing problems like this is that the ControlImage function selects 600 dpi to draw the image out, since this is a standard number that works with most printers. The 7.1 controls will now provide a ControlImageEx function that lets you select the dpi for the image. The standard for most screens is 96 dpi.
    Please email the beta coo
rdinator( [email protected] ) once you have signed up.

  • DNG files labeled as Unsupported Image Format

I have used the Adobe DNG Converter and LIghtroom 3 to convert some raw image files from a Fujifilm S100fs camera, and then tried to import them into Aperture 3.  In all cases, DNG files from this particular camera are labeled Unsupported Image Format, while DNG files converted from other unsupported cameras have been imported successfully into Aperture.
I think this is clearly a defect in Aperture that should be fixed, and I would like to know how a user is informed by Apple that a behavior has been identified as a defect and put on a list of problems to be fixed.

I can now add more details to my problem with Apple's treatment of DNG files originating from .RAF files created by the Fujifilm S100fs camera.
I took this issue to the Adobe DNG Converter forum, to investigate whether the DNG Converter was creating a Linear DNG file from these originals.  I had read on Apple forums that the MAC OS would reject DNG files that were linear, and that this sometimes happens when the Adobe Converter encounters raw file parameters that it cannot handle, such as barrel distortion correction figures.
I have established that these DNG files from my S100fs camera RAWs are NOT linear DNG's.  I found a helpful reader on the Adobe forum who had the tools and knowledge to look inside my DNG files, and ascertain that they were not Linear DNGs.
So I have exhausted the possibilities that the MAC OS is rejecting my DNG files for a recognized valid reason, and I return to my opinion that this is an Apple bug and needs to be fixed.
