Changing import settings in itunes8

i used to be able to change my import settings in itunes8 by going "edit", "preferences", "advanced", and then there would be a drop down menu of options of importing.....wave, aac, mp3....but now it's no longer there.......i used apples itunes help, but as usual it's a complete waste of time.....it states that there is an "import settings" tab under "preferences", but my i tunes8 doesn't have that.....does anyone know how to change the import preferences???

got it, thanks.....i never understand why they change things for no apparent good reason....thx for the help....edtop40

  • Changing Import Settings in AAC Encoder, Custom

I changed my import settings to AAC Encoder, Custom, and set the bit rate to 160 kbps from the menu of options.  Now that it is set, I cannot change it.  It no longer shows a menu of bit options.  How can I change my Custom settings again?

Note, I use iTunes 7.5.  With this version I:
    iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing
    Import Using: AAC Encoder
    Settings: Custom
    --> New window
Stereo bitrate: [a selection from from 16 to 320]

  • Change Import Settings?

Can someone give me an AppleScript routine that will change the parameters of the import settings? Presently I can change codecs like MP3 to Aif or something else, however, I cannot change the MP3 settings from, say, MP3 192kbps for music to MP3 32kbps for Podcasts. I want to stop having to go into iTunes, preferences, change the setting, close the window, etc. etc.
    Thanks!

    Schneb,
    Surprised no one else responded.
There are possibly two other ways to have this work:
    1) System Events using GUI control;
    2) Modifying the iTunes preferences file directly.
Just from a brief gander it looks like 1) is possible but will take some playing and I need to know exactly what it is you are doing, i.e., which menus, buttons and settings you are choosing. Let me know if you are interested.
I also looked at the iTunes preferences file and nothing really jumped out but maybe someone else can decipher it for you. If this is possible this would be faster and less prone to errors.

  • Changing Import Settings

When changing the import settings to AIFF Encoder, and choosing CUSTOM, how do you get these settings to become fixed. When I close the window, the settings revert back to the default. I'm looking to import higher quality files, but can't sem to get ITUNES to "APPLY" the settings that I want to change. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance.....

TThere are no import settings. The application imports in whatever settings the media is.

  • Can you change import settings..? Getting poor quality AVCHD Lite results.

Further my earlier post regarding AVCHD Lite (.mts) clips being too dark after import, I have established that it makes no difference whether I use values of 1.8 (10.5 native) or 2.2 (10.7 native).
Is there any way to affect the iMovie import settings that I've missed...?
iMovie has some excellent clip adjustment tools, but if I let iMovie import my clips at Full Quality (they are 720p AVCHD Lite .mts format clips from a newly purchased Panasonic FZ38), and try to use the video adjustment tools to 'lift' the clips – i.e. adjust exposure, brightness – the results are terrible, with blotchy areas and loss of definition. It seems the Quicktime conversion to get the clips into iMovie loses all detail in the shadowy areas, which obviously can't be recovered.
I've found a temporary workaround by converting the .mts clips using a third-party video converter which has brightness, contrast and saturation controls – a little boost on both the brightness and contrast is all that's needed to get the clips coming out the same on my Mac as they do on camera LCD (and TV playback off camera) - but I'd much prefer not to have to resort to an extra piece of software.
Is this a 'problem' with iMovie (and indeed Quicktime's) support for the relatively new AVCHD format that we may see 'fixed' in time?
Any other thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!!

I'm not sure if this is the cause, but there is a difference in the way iMovie 08 handles the video after import, as compared to iMovie HD6, the older, better version. Something to do with the interlacing? or something, but I'm not sure. Some people here think HD6 produces a better quality image than 08.
Oftentimes too, the image you see on your monitor will not be the same as you see on the final DVD product.
Anyway, you are entitled to a free download of iMovie HD6 from the Downloads page of this Apple website. Maybe get that and see if the picture is better.

  • Can i change import settings in iphoto?

I have noticed that when I import photos from my camera into iPhoto, it reduces the file size from 16M (on my camera settings) to 3-4M in iPhoto? I went into Preferences, but I don't see anyway to change it except for RAW settings. Any way around it? Or am I not understanding something? Thanks.

1 - no need to shoot RAW + JPEG since iPhoto creates a JPEG preview of every RAW imported - shooting both wastes SD card space, Mac disk space and gives you duplicates in iPhhoto
2 - if you what greater control in editing including shanging the white point then shoor RAW - anbd yes RAW images take more space that JPEGs - they have more capability - if you are going to use tha tcapability then shoot RAW - if not then shoot JPEG - for cropping there is no difference between them

  • Changing import settings for brightness etc

    Hi there,
I'm importing RAW files from my Canon 5D, and they all come in with the brightness set to +50 and the contrast to +25, the blacks are +5, and the tone curve has a slight "S" curve on it. I appreciate this is probably a "good thing", but how do I get LR to import with entirely neutral settings?
    Many thanks
    J

ThEse are genera;ized settings that aDobe figures will work for many users. Do your own presets, more than one if you have to, and apply appropriately on import.
If you have more than one camera you might want more than one for the differences, for instance.

  • Can no longer change bit rate in AAC custom import settings

I've been re-ripping all my CDs at the new higher bit rate. My import settings were AAC Encoder -- custom, originally set to 256 kbps, VBR, and auto for the other two settings. However, some CDs I wanted at a lower setting, so I would go change the bit rate to either 192 or 224 (just so I'd have more room on my ipod) and there wouldn't be a problem. But now it's stuck -- the pop-up box no longer opens when I choose import settings, AAC Encoder, Custom, so I can't change the bit rate or anything else, and it's stuck on 224 kbps. I can still change bit rate and other settings in the custom menus for MP3, WAV, etc., just not AAC. A repair install of iTunes did not fix the problem.

Hi, Ed. I am running iTunes 9.0.3.15. When I click custom, the settings description in the details box display what they were before this thing happened = 112 kbps (mono)/224 kbps (stereo), VBR, optimized for MMX/SSE2. The pop-up dialogue box that used to appear (where you could choose the specific bit rate from the drop down menu) does not appear at all.
However, when I choose anything other than AAC Encoder, and then pick custom, the pop-up box appears and I can choose the bit rate and adjust the other settings as usual. It's just not happening for AAC Encoder anymore. Since the total un-install (following Apple's specified order) and reinstall didn't work, I'm baffled how to fix this .... (If it makes a difference, I changed the bit rate in the custom box while a CD was being burned...Apparently that was stupid, but I had done it previously without incident.) Thanks.

  • How can I change the settings in iPhoto not to import duplicates?

Apple routers do not support UPnP.  They do support NAT-PMP, but that requires that you manually enter in the port values to set up what is known as Port Mapping.
But, first things first. is the Time Capsule set up as the DHCP and NAT router for the network, or do you have another router upstream from the Time Capsule on the network?
Another way to ask the same question......what is the make and model number of the device that you call your "modem"?

  • Cannot Change Custom Import Settings For AAC's

Last night I changed the custom import settings from 192 kbps to 160 kbps for a particular mp3 album I wanted to convert with that bitrate. I tried to change the custom settings back to 192 kbps (the bitrate most of my mp3's & wma's are in). For some reason, the window that came up many times before refuses to pop up now. I tried the custom settings for mp3's and that window still pops up. Anyway, I tried a repair and nothing happened. I uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, and Apple Software Updates, deleted there corresponding folders in C:/Program Files and then restarted the computer. I downloaded the iTunes 9 installer through the iTunes website and proceeded to reinstall iTunes. Still, the problem exists. I'm not sure what else to do? The only other thing I can think of is to do the same except install iTunes 8 instead and then search for updates and reinstall iTunes 9 that way. Would anyone know of any other method on solving my problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    glenn,
I have the same problem and it is driving me crazy. If you find a solution please email me at [email protected]

  • *H*E*L*P* - I am UNABLE to change my Import settings on my iPod shuffle....

Can anyone on the planet Help me with my problem?!
    My Import Settings state:
    On CD Insert-"Show CD"
    Import Using-"MP3 Encoder"
    Setting-"High Quality, 160 kbps".
I would like to change these settings. Although, everytime I enter the Preferences foler and click on the Advanced tab and next on the Importing tab also make subtle changes they will Not adhere. Do I need to erase every program and start all over again or does anybody have a quick fix for me?
I am on a bended knee with my head bowed down and hands clasped together also pleading with everyone. Can someone or anybody please, Help Me?!

You may want to have a look at this thread .
Although similar problems are reported from time to time, there doesn't seem to be a straightforward solution.
If all else fails, then m1t's workaround could be worth pursuing.

  • Change Default Import Settings

This has bugged me for a while now. I have created an Import Preset to import my photos to my "F" drive. Works perfectly but sometimes...the import Preset reverts to the original Lightroom Import setting which imports to my "C".drive. If I right click on my Import Preset, my Import to "F" is checked.
How can I prevent LR4 from reverting to the default import settings and is there anyway to either remove the old default altogether or make my Import to "F", my default?
    Bob

I found a previous post that appears to work.  Since the netbook doesn't show an OK in the preference window, I just had to hit enter to accept and change the setting.
    Thanks to all.

  • Change import and play settings

I do not want to import every audio CD I place in my PC..  In iTunes, I Changed Preferences, to PLAY, not import; then to SHOW, not import.
It still imports no matter what.
I then went to the CD,  changed my "OPEN WITH" to WMP, instead of itunes, as my default; buy itunes still opens/imports CD.
Prior to this itunes update, all was well.  I could even change to Real Player as my default if I wanted to.  Now,
seems itunes has taken over and I can not change a thing.
    Windows 7; iTunes Ver 12.0.1.26

Hey. It seems you got the import settings switched over to .MP3, so what you need to do now is right click on the songs you want to convert to MP3 and select the "Create MP3 Version" option. This will cause it to create a duplicate version on each song you select that is in MP3 format. (You can choose whether or not you want to delete the original .m4a file.) After you have converted the songs you want to mp3 format, you can just drag the song from within iTunes to a folder on the flash drive and it will copy the song to the new location.

  • When closing and reopening, my tabs aren't restoring like the once did. My history is only keeping one day. Need to know how to change these settings.

When closing and reopening Firefox, my tabs aren't restoring like they once did. I used to have all my tabs restore each time I opened Firefox. Now it starts with one fresh new tab and all my others are lost. I do a lot of research so this is important.
My history is only displaying one day even though I have never changed my settings even after I updated it last year.
Need to know how to restore these settings.
***OH! special note: I can't use the recently closed tabs or recently closed windows because its a grayed out option****

Are you using cleanup software like CCleaner?
If you use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.
