Changing in memory zfs arc c,p,c_max

Im running u5 (5/8) and would like to use mdb -kw to change the c p c_max on the arc.
I can read the values "::arc -a", and can read the ::zfs_params and update "zfs_arc_max/D" "zfs_arc_max/Z 0x100000000" but this is not reflected in "::arc -a" and when you read the kstat -m zfs "zfs:0:arcstats:c_max"
thats about the limit of my knowledge, on earlier releases you could get the memory addresses with "arc::print -a p c c_max".
i know you can update the system file and reboot but not an option and would like to tune.
Any help on this much appreaciated.

Cant tweak the arc in 5/8, just updated the figure in /etc/system (set zfs:zfs_arc_max = 0x100000000) and rebooted. Would have been nice to tweak on a running system.
Ive read 256mb min, 512 recommended maybe 1GB would be sufficent for a database server with lots of RAM. currently we use 4Gb.

Monitoring ZFS arc cache value and application interaction

Hello,
I have a question regarding the interaction between the ZFS ARC cache memory consumption and application memory interactions running on a server. I am running into a situation where I believe the primary enterprise application using an Oracle DB running on the server is not able to access any additional RAM when it requires more memory. I have read ZFS documentation and it is supposed to release ram for applications, but I am unsure if this is happening. How can I test this? I am running a T5120 Solaris 10, 32 GB of ram.
The primary application documentation says to size the server for 16 GB, it is usually running with 6 GB on a day to day basis. That is 17% of the memory. ZFS ARC cache is always around the 69-70% of the memory (23GB). I need to figure out if I am not seeing additional memory utilisation on the part of the application because it is poorly written and the ARC is not being released when requested. That is my running theory.
Also, polling the server for data, I found a high rate of page faults/second. The server seams to be running from 350 to 650 PageFaults/second and can spike to 1.8k during periodes of high load.
Is lowering the maximum value of the ARC the only option? This is suggested when using a DB. I would appreciate any suggestions. This is my first run in with ZFS.

From my experience, ZFS arc cache doesn't always release memory when there is contention (theoretically yes).
I always reduce the ZFS cache to bare minimal if the app data is on a shared storage like SAN or in other words, you don't use JBODs for your app data (be it DB or a file server). If you do use local storage for your app then should give it a reasonable amount of memory for better performance.

How to change Virtual Memory in Windows 7 with SSD and 16GB RAM

I have SSD Samsung 850Pro with OS Windows 7 and have installed physical RAM 16GB.
In Adobe Help/Optimize performance/Photoshop written :

I have 16GB RAM
in the Initial Size box : 16384+300=16684MB
in the Maximum Size box:16684x3=50052MB
but in the description of SSD written :

Windows set to default virtual memory : 16348 MB =16GB !
But SSD program Samsung Magician wants virtual memory between in the Initial Size Box :200MB and in the Maximum Size box: 2048MB or 4096MB. If more than 8GB suggests that SSD will work slowly.
Perhaps the description in Adobe execution Help / Optimize / Photoshop is not correct or ?

Database changed or Memory Unavailable Error in Album

Hi -
I had updated my XZ1 to 4.4.2. In the Album, there is an option Faces (which detects the faces) and asks to add names. So when I try to add name I get the message "Database Changed or Memory unavailable". The other problem I am facing is that my Camera storage was earlier on SD card. I still can see the photos on SD card thru the File Commander. The Album is not showing any of those photos but it shows the album art from my media folder. I am thinking both are connected in the sense that it has the cache of faces somewhere (I cleared data and cache multiple times) but it is not recognising the actual photo database for some reason so it is not able to write the name information (When I select the name option) to the actual photos.

I suggest that you try to clear data for album and media storage under settings > apps > all > album/media storage > clear data. Restart the phone and wait for the phone to index all media files again.

How to change size memory for an application under Classic ?

When I ask informations on my OS 9 application under OS X.4.4, I can no more change size memory ! I can no more use my application with Classic... ???

ROYCH: This is partly guesswork, but I think it may explain why your problem occurs.
When OS X is controlling your computer (as it always does on a Mini), the file Type and Creator attributes that OS 9 uses to identify different kinds of files are not used. OS X ignores them in files that have them. Files that are only used by OS X don't have them at all. When you create a new application in Classic mode under OS X, those attributes may not be assigned to it, so the new application may not have any.
But if you copy the new application to a computer running OS 9, and those attributes are missing, the OS 9 computer will have no idea what sort of file it is. OS 9 won't even know it's an application. To prevent that, I'm guessing that OS X somehow builds clues into the file that enable OS 9 to identify it as an application, and to give it the Type attribute APPL. I believe any file in OS 9 that has that Type attribute will display the Memory menu item in its Get Info window — not only in OS 9, but in OS X. So after you copy your compiled application onto a computer running OS 9 and then back onto your Mini, it has the APPL attribute, and the Memory item is available in its Get Info box.
I have one application, File Buddy, that can (among many other abilities) display and edit the OS 9 Type and Creator attributes of any file while running in OS X. It can be used to assign specific Type and Creator attributes to a file that has none. You could use it to assign the appropriate Type and Creator attributes to your compiled applications while you are running OS X. After you do so, maybe they will display the Memory menu item in their OS X Get Info boxes.
If this works, File Buddy can apply the same changes in Type and Creator to a whole folder full of files at once. That would be an easy way for you to accomplish the same thing for several compiled applications instantly, without having to copy them to a computer running OS 9.
I don't create applications, so I can't test this procedure to see whether it works. I will be interested to hear what happens if you experiment with File Buddy.
But after saying all this, I really have no idea whether the message you're seeing about insufficient memory is meaningful or spurious. You may go through the whole rigmarole of changing the memory allocation for your compiled applications, only to find that doing so still doesn't enable you to open them. I'll be interested to hear whether that's true, too. Good luck.

N70 - Changing Message Memory

I've N70 and got couple of problems, hoping for some positive replies. I'll list out my problems below.
I can't update my Phone Software, while using Nokia Software Update, the download never goes beyond 2-3%, mind you my Internet speed is fairly good, 512 Kbps. Why doesn't Nokia provide a separate downloadable file which can be installed??
Most importantly, I can't seem to change my Message Memory from "Phone Memory" to "MMC". It just never changes. When I try to change, it gives a message "Changing message memory" and does nothing. For doing so, I go to Messages > Options > Settings > Other > Memory In Use. I wud just format my memory card and start reusing it from scratch, but I have some very important memories stored in it, which I can't afford to lose. Songs, Photos etc stored in MMC are accessible without a problem.

as i know, you cant change message memory whenever there's an application lock the media. for example, fontrouter. if you installed it in memory card you will not be able to change from mem card to phone memory. some resident applications might be also give symptoms like that
mm...i did also experienced few days ago in my N73, i cant change the message memory though fontrouter was already installed in phone memory. i found the problem, my phone stored too many messages (3500+). n i had to delete many of them til only 2000 using Symbian SDK (coz i need to make a backup first and copy the mail folder to my PC).

There is no Late 2008 MP. There's an Early 2008 and Early 2009. Yours sounds like the former. It does not support using DDR3 nor 1066 MHz RAM. It requires PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM.

Don't know. Could be any number of reasons. Re-read the how to install RAM manual again for your model iMac. Double & triple check to make sure you purchased the right RAM chips. Make sure they are seated properly. If you didn't hear a snap when seated, the RAM is not properly seated.

I changed the memory settings in the KT6V Bios without flashing to the latest bios update. Now the system won't post and of course I learned afterwards you shouldn't mess with memory settings.
I did everything, cleared the cmos(several times with and without the battery), also tried to do the bios recovery but that didn't work. And yes I have the 4-pin plugged in, I also tested all the parts on another motherboard and they work fine with it.
So is the board fubared? I just bought it the other day, it's a long drive to take it back where I got it from so if anyone knows if there is a possible way to recover it please let me know!

How to change heap memory size for general java applications (not applets)

Hi. I made a java class which manipulates images and I sometimes get an out of memory error when the files are large. In these cases I can run it successfully from the command line using:
java -Xms32m -Xmx128m myappbut as I run this class from a firefox extension, I can't use this technique.
Could some one tell me how to set this globally? I've found a lot of info on setting it for applets in the control panel but that's it. I also tried editing my deployment.properties file by adding:
deployment.javapi.jre.1.6.0_11-b03.args=-Xmx128mbut none of these options seem to work.

You specified you are not using applets, but if you do, I would also suggest you use the next Generation Plug-in (since 1.6.0_10) that allows you specify the max memory in the applet without having to instruct the user how to make the change. Recently we had the memory in few systems increased by 2-4 GB. Do we need to change any SAP/DB parameters due to this change?If yes, what are they? Info: Platform is AIX/Oracle, ECC6 and BI 7.0

No, I mean the memory has been increased by 2 - 4 GB. For e.g. in one system memory was 16 GB, it was increased to 20GB. In another system the memory was 12 GB, it was increased to 14GB. What I want to know is, because of this increased memory space are there any parameters in SAP/DB that also need to be adjusted according to the amount of memory space(hardware) added?
