Changing info about songs

I was trying to change the info on all the songs in my iTunes library yesturday to try and get all the songs from some albums to be together rather than seperated when different artists were performing by changing them all to 'Various'.  Unfortunatly I typed 'Various' into the Album box by mistake and now all my songs have the same album name.  Is there any way of undoing my mistake or am I going to have to go through all 17 days worth of somgs and change them individually?  I haven't got a recent back up off my computer, but I do have quite alot of the music stored on either my iPad or my iPhone, could any of that be used to help?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

  • Changing Info On Songs in a Shared Library

I just got done figuring out how to have the same iTunes library for multiple users on one mac. However, when I was on one of the accounts that weren't the admin, I tried to change the info of some songs however it wouldn't let me edit any of the information. Is there a way to change this? Also, if my son were to burn a cd using is iTunes, will it show up on mine and my wife's iTunes too? Thanks again.

OK. I am assuming that while you have a single iTunes or iTunes Music folder on the shared folder, each use account is probably maintaining its own database file for their own libraries, right? In other words, each user has different libraries with different playlists and ratings and stuff like that?
On your first question, on the account with non-admin privileges, does that folder show up as read only? If so, you may have to go in on an admin account and change the setting of that folder to allow ANYONE write access to it.
On your second question, if your son were to import a CD (I assume that is what you meant) to his library, the tracks will go into the shared folder but the information about those tracks would only be updated on HIS database file (if the answer to the first paragraph is yes). They will not show up automatically in other libraries. If they want the same tracks, they would have to go to the folder for that CD in the shared library and then manually add them to their own library to get put in their library database.
Now one way around this is to have a single database for all users on the shared folder. However the problem is, if two users tried to access the database files at the same time, you could get a corrupt file. Since Macs allow two or more users to have iTunes open at the same time, you would corrupt the file. Although all users are on the same computer so realistically only one person would be using the computer at any given time, other users could still be logged in and iTunes open and running, so you still run the risk of problems. So you would have to have everyone be very disciplined to close iTunes when they are done.

  • Can't enter/change info for songs...

I can change the info for some of my songs but not for most of them. Why is this?

Check that the problem files are not read only.
If they are MP3s, there can sometime be problems with tag versions. Try selecting a track and right click on it. Select Convert ID3 tags. Try converting to none. It might be as well to experiment with a copy.
Otherwise check the permissions on your music folder, but if this was a problem I would expect everything to be affected.
Your account needs full control of any music folder.

  • How do you regain access to change info on song info

i had itunes loaded on my old computer and it was sent out to get fixed, i had my files on a external hard drive. i just bought a new computer and dragged and dropped my itunes library into the new computer. the new songs i downloaded into the new computer, i can change the song info on (album, song names etc). the songs that were loaded from the old computer putting them onto the external drive info is greyed out and cannot be changed. is there a way to fix this issue?

Since you have Vista--there is a possibility that you don't have full permission to alter these files. To change your authorization status:
Do you store your music in your iTunes folder? Or in a separate music folder or on another hard disk?
If the files are in your iTunes folder, you can find this by going to Start>Computer>Hard Disk C>Users (in left column)>Your Name (in right column)>Music>iTunes>iTunes Music (the FOLDER not the library file)
Inside this folder with be folders with artist names. Click on one of these and keep opening things until you get to an actual song file, then right click and choose "Properties". When the next box opens, choose the security tab, scroll down and click on your name (probably second on list after "System"). Make sure you have FULL PERMISSION for all functions. If you don't click the "Edit" button and change things so you do.
If you don't keep your music files inside your iTunes folder, then go to the place where you store these files. Find an actual song file, right click, choose properties and then follow the instructions above.
P.S.--I know you store on an external--I just reposted one of my responses that should help you. Good luck!

  • Automaticaly delete info about songs that r not in my hardrive?

Is there a way to go and automatically have itunes search my mac...and delete all the titles in itunes that don't have music. For instance I have the same name titles sometimes 2-3 times...and the song doesn't even exist. How can i get rid of the extra names on my itunes?

Yes they can. After syncing the songs that you want, you should set the iPod to manual so that iTunes doesn't delete the songs that are not on iTunes from you iPod. After that you can delete the songs on your iTunes. If you want to put more music on your iPod, you'll have to put it in your library, obviously, and then highlight the songs, and drag it to you iPod.

  • Changing info on songs in your Device Music folder...

I have a bunch of music in my music library (933 songs) 886 of which are on my iPhone 4, in the music folder/area under "Devices"
After connecting my iphone today to hopefully add more music, I synched and detached my iPhone and noticed my iPhone now only had 455 songs. The other 330 or so, just randomly disapeared. I don't know how or why, they just vanished. When I click on one of them in my iPhone device music section, they have a exclamation point and you cannot do anything to interact with them. You cannot "Find location" or anything like that. It is simply, a useless thing.
Now can someone please tell me what happened, and why it is not playing in my device music folder where it shows it being, or why it is gone from my phone.

Are all the tracks present in the library? If so backup the device and then immediately restore it from the backup.

  • Info about tracks seems to stick even though I change it

I put an audio book onto my iPod shuffle 4th (or maybe 5th) gen. To start with the order was messed up. Both listing-wise in iTunes and playback on ipod. I then worked out how to order this particular audio book correctly (by using disk numbering, 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3), and this got the order correct as listed in iTunes. But the incorrect ordering stuck so far as playback on the iPod went. So, just to clarify: Correct order listed in iTunes, wrong order played back on iPod.
I tried deleting all the audiobook files from the iPod and recopying them back on. Various other changes to try and get the right ordering to stick -- for playback. But no. The ordering remained messed up on playback, but looked fine in iTunes order.
What I had to do to fix this was reset the iPod back to its factory settings, then copy the correctly listed audiobook onto the iPod. Then the playback order was correct.
My question (becuase I've now got a similar but different problem): How to achieve what I achieved by resetting back to factory settings and copying files on again, without doing a factory reset? How to get info to stick, take effect, on the iPod? It seems the iPod, once it gets a version of a bunch of files, won't allow you to change that info about those files. Please help. I'm  really struggling with this iPod. I can programme C and PHP etc. but I can't get my iPod to work properly. Really not happy.

Hey! I had the same problem you did just today when I was trying to get my second iPhone to sync. What you need to do with music or anything extra that you doing you have to creat a second playlist or picture or anything that you would like to use, so that you can add to the second device that you are going to be using. I am not sure if that will help but it helped me out a lot!! Good luck!

  • Purchase song on notebook, change info, iCloud syncs with iTouch with old info, i sync then 2 copies on iTouch, can't get rid of old info one.  Help?

purchase song on notebook, change info, iCloud syncs with iTouch with old info, i sync then 2 copies on iTouch, can't get rid of old info one.  Help? thx

Also, you need to have activated the computer for use with itunes. Why that's not done when you install is a mystery.
Because you don't need an iTunes account tio use or install iTunes.
You cannot authorize the computer until you have an account because that's what you are authorizing.
Note, you can only have 5 active computers, but you can deactivate all of them.
You can have 5 computers authorized at any one time. You can only select Deauthorize all when you do hae 5 authorized and you can only do it one time per year.
    Next, create/update your itunes account.
Again you cannot "activate" (which is authorize) unless you have an iTunes account. So you cannot authorize iTunes and then create an iTunes account.

  • Changing Artist/Genre/Song Name in "Get Info"

I am very maticulous about my music organization, and only maybe half the time am I able to change the Genre/Song Name/Or Artist
    anyone else have this problem?
how do I fix it ?

If iTunes won't accept changes to the tags see Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
If iTunes appears to accept your changes but the original values reappear later then the files are likely to be mp3s with multiple tags. In such cases iTunes only updates one of them and may later read back the unchanged data from the other. To fix this select the tracks in question in iTunes, right-click and use Convert > ID3 Tags > None, several times, then use Convert > ID3 Tags > ID3v2.3. You will need to reinsert any embedded artwork.

  • How can I change "get info" on songs purchased through the Cloud?

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have been unable to change any album info on songs that were purchased through the Cloud.  this wasn't always the case. As we know, iTunes sometimes places songs/albums, etc., in the wrong category or genre.  I'm simply trying to place it in the proper or desired catetory or place all songs on one album after iTunes split the album.  But, when I right click on GET INFO, all of my options to make any changes are GREYED out and I can't select anything.  Only the Summary window and the album artwork window are accessible.
After doing some research I determined that it is indeed only those songs that have the CLOUD icon beside them.  I truly don't understand the CLOUD and how it works enough to even know what I did to change it...or how to change it back! And before the upgrade, that cloud icon didn't exist.  Thoughts? ideas?  Hope this all makes sense.

    Hi,
I presume you mean songs purchased from iTunes Store.
It would appear that you have not downloaded the tracks to your computer. Once you have downloaded the tracks you will be able to change info.

  • Change data regarding song information in iTunes not working,

Hey everyone, I was writing to see if anyone else was seeing this problem. I want to change the data on some of the music in my iTunes library and every time I attempt to do so it will not affect the songs.
Example: I wanted to add genre data to Random Access Memories so I select all the songs in the album. Right click and choose "Get Info." Go to the bottom and type in the genre information and click ok to confirm the change, but then after the dialogue disappears it does not change the song genre information at all.
Thank you for all the help.

  • HT5085 Gathering Info About your iTunes Library - Keep getting Network error

I bought iTunes Match yesterday, and so far have not been able to use it.
It gets to Stage 1: Gathering Info About Your iTunes Library and makes progress, but right at the end an error box appears saying:
"We could not complete your iTunes request. The network connection was reset.
Make sure your network connection is active and try again"
Well I know the network connection is active as I was able to be charged for iTunes Match and have had no problems making other purchases. I went to Advance > Run Diagnostics Tests from Help in iTunes and ran the Network Connectivity Diagnostics and it reported no problems.
Now I know how much Apple hate giving back refunds, but if people can't help, does anyone know how I can get my money back? If I click "Report a Problem" it simply takes me to the help pages. I tried contacting support but I received an email saying they can't help.
I'm getting quite frustrated now, so I'm reaching out and hoping someone can help me?

@ deggie, I wasn't threatening ANYONE. I was simply saying how frustrating this has become, seeing how I have been trying on my own to figure this issue out for more then a month with no results. Like I said in the beginning, I have not used any other account to purchase apps or other products on my phone. I have only ever used one account. There are 23 apps that are saying they can't sync. It directs me to authorize the computer, which I do but it doesn't change the outcome. If I proceed, I lose those 23 apps correct? Do I also lose all my text messages saved, and other things such as documents in the "notes"?
