Changing ipod on to a new computer, PLEASE HELP!!

Anyones advice would be brilliant, I want to change my ipod mini 6G over to a new computer. Have uninstalled everything from old computer, loading up original disk on new comp, but my ipod will not show up in itunes, no matter what i try!!. Have tried resetting, restoring, getting new itunes and ipod updater software and always get the "Firmware update failure.disk read error" message. After all this the exclamation and folder icon appeared. I have now uninstalled all software on both computers and loaded the original disk back up, but ipod is only being recognised on old comp!!!. Please help!!!!!!!!!. I dont even mind losing my music as i didnt have much anyway, just desperate to get ipod working on my new computer, as ive been trying to fix this since yesterday with hardly any sleep!!!.
Many Thanks!
TY

Welcome to the discussion,
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Can't transfer music to new computer, please help

My old computer crashed so I can't connect it to my new one to transfer my songs. I plugged my ipod into the new comp before downloading itunes and I save my playlists onto it in My Music. Then I downloaded itunes and tried to transfer my music into my library. It says theres an error and the songs can't transfer. Also, the ipod's songs pop up when I click on the ipod but they're gray and I can't highlight, move, play, or acceses them in anyway. I reeaallly don't want to download my 800+ songs all over again so any tips will be appreciated!

I'm new to this Discussions Forum but I've notice so many people with the same problem as u...I guess I'll just post my solution here n hope it relieves some of everyone's headaches..
I've discovered a way to preserve my ipod songs n transfer it into my new computer. It took
me quite a while to figure it out so if it also work for u, please give credits where
    credit is due~ ^_^ MyMyMai
Follow these steps for Windows XP users:
    1) Go to "Start"
    2) Go to "Control Panel" n click on it.
    3) Click on "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices"
    4) Click on "Portable Media Devices", then a list of ur portable devices should pull up,
    including ur ipod.
    5) Click on ur ipod, then it should pull up folders named "Calendars" "Contacts" "Notes"
    "iPod_Control" n "Photos"
    6) Click on the "iPod_Control" folder, it should pull up several folders named "Artwork"
    "Device" "iTunes" n "Music"
    7) Click on the "Music" folder which would bring up several folders named "F00" "F01" "F02"
and so on and so forth.
    8) All you have to do is copy n paste ALL the folders onto ur new hard drive, like ur
    desktop or "My Music" folder.
    9) Open up ur new itune on ur new computer, go to "file", "add folder to library", and
click on ur "My Music" folder or each "F00" folders on ur desktop.
All the songs should transfer into ur new iTune library. Hope this helps!

  • Transfer from iPod to Itunes on New comp PLEASE HELP!

is there a way to do this!? my old comp crashed..hard drive fried...is there a way to get my iPod music, on my new comp??

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 or Vista so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward but you'll need to check for Vista compatibility. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Getting a new computer (PLEASE HELP!)

I buy songs off the itunes on my family PC and that is the itunes my ipod is...on. (technologically uninclined here). The trouble is that I just got a new computer, a Mac Mini, and want to transfer to the itunes on that computer. How do I do that???????

Sorry to highjack this one but can I go back to Michael's comments about licences?
I have a desktop PC and a laptop PC. I'm the only one using PS. I don't want to fall foul of any licence infringements but am I right in understanding from your comments that I can run run CS3 on both machines? If it makes any difference, CS3 was purchased (legit!) as a Windows upgrade.
When I changed machines, I got the impression you had to uninstal CS3 from one machine, get verification from Adobe, then reinstal on the new machine i.e. leaving only one machine using PS.
Have I missed a trick here?
    Thanks,
    Bob

  • IPod won't work with new computer - please help

When I bought my iPod, I had it hooked up with Computer #1. That went with my ex-husband in the divorce, so I no longer have that computer.
I now have my parents' old computer, Computer #2. My dad has an iPod that was originally used with this computer, but none of his songs or libraries are on Computer #2 anymore. The iTunes library is totally empty. I tried hooking up my iPod, and it said that my iPod was already associated with another computer. So I authorized Computer #2 to play my iPod songs, and that didn't work either. I cannot deauthorize computer #1 since I don't have it anymore. ITunes would not let me deauthorize both computers, like it said you could do once a year.
I am at a loss for what to do. Thanks in advance.

Help Please... I just got a new computer. I have PS CC on my old pc and my laptop. How do I change my ps to my new computer??

You can install and activate CC apps on 2 computers.
You can continue using CC apps on both computers .
    However ,
If you no longer wish to use CC apps on old computer , it is better to deactivate  subscription by signing out from Creative Cloud on old computer

  • I'm trying to transfer the files from my ipod touch to my new computer itunes keeps telling me that all the apps and music won't be transferred that the computer is authorized.  Then it brings up a previous apple id which is no longer valid.

I'm trying to transfer the files from my Ipod touch to my new computer.  It is saying that not all of the files will be transferred because the computer isn't authorized.  I have authorized it several times but it keeps bring up a previous apple id that I had but when I try to log in using that id it tells be it is no longer vailid and then it stops and won't let me transfer any files.  Any suggestion are welcome.  Thank You

Yes. Visit My Apple ID and click Find your Apple ID. See Finding your Apple ID if you'd like more information.

  • Syncing ipod/iphone to a new computer

I recently purchased a new Macbook pro and came here to find out how to sync my iPod touch to it without losing everything and really didn't find much. I managed to do it correctly and thought it might help others if I posted a how to.
    1. Start iTunes on your new computer and log in, be sure to 'authorize' it when prompted.
    2. Attach ipod/iphone via USB cable and transfer all Purchased content to the new computer from the ipod/iphone. (in the 'File' menu on the bar at top of screen). This transfers all music, Apps, iBooks, games, etc that you have downloaded through iTunes.
    3. Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes for both computers (you need to have WiFi or manually connect them). When your 'old' library shows up on your new computer click on it, then change the option in the bottom left corner to 'show only content I don't have' (or something close to that). Choose 'select all' from the 'Edit' menu or manually select, and drag the content to the 'Music' section in the iTunes menu to the left (you only have to get the box around that area to turn blue, it will begin to transfer automatically.
    4. Check to make sure everything you want/had is now on your new computer. Turn 'on' syncing for each section (Music, Apps, etc) and adjust the settings as necessary, then sync to your new computer. Yes, this will wipe your ipod/iphone, return it to it's 'basic' program and then reload everything. BUT:
The only things that didn't transfer when I did this were old Apps that I had 'unchecked' so they weren't on my iPod anyway, if you want them all make sure they're all 'checked'. All my notes in three different note apps were transferred, the progress of all my games transferred, the bookmarks, etc in all my books transferred, my Kindle and B&N eReader books transferred. Even the photos I had on my ipod remained, although you will have to transfer them to your new computer (from the old one) if you want to keep them and be able to add new ones.
The only thing that was 'lost' was the arrangement of my apps and the folders I had created with purchased apps (because they were all erased and then reloaded).
I hope this helps, and lessens the scariness of that warning you get when first syncing to a new computer.

this helped soo much thank you!

Yamipod copies music (including playlist). Your settings are stored on the iPod and will not change. That includes the name you gave it which should show up in iTunes whenever you connect the iPod.
Yamipod does not transfer play-counts, ratings etc.
