Changing iPod users?

We recently got custody of my sister. She has a 5th generation 30G iPod that is registered under my brother's iPod account. (He used to have custody of her) Can we change the user account for her iPod and create one of her own? She doesn't want to lose any of her stuff on her iPod, but iTunes won't work for her anymore because my brother deactivated iTunes on her computer. He refuses to reactivate it, and he lives on the other side of the world. She's worried about losing all her music, but I want her to be able to buy new stuff and access iTunes. Is there any way around this?

First, it's best if you copy the music already on the iPod to the computer she will be using from now on.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non iTunes music, use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
iTunes should be closed when using these programs to prevent accidental auto sync of the iPod and the possibility of losing the music already stored on the iPod.
_Once you have the music safely on the computer hard drive (and not before)_, add it to the iTunes library.
See: How to add songs from your hard drive to iTunes.
*_Once everything is safely stored in the iTunes library_*, you can connect the ipod and you should see this message (with a different iPod name of course!):
You can click "yes" to that message and the iPod will become associated with that iTunes library, and she can carry on using the iPod as she has done before on the other computer.
For safety's sake I'll repeat what I said earlier. _*Do not click "yes" to that message until everything is stored safely within iTunes*._

  • Change IPOD USER

    I've been gifted my wife's IPOD nano. How do I changer users such that is recognizes my library?

    The only way you can make sure that the volume doesn't go up is by putting the hold switch on. You can't change the interface of the ipod. It is not possible that I know of.
    Plus I wouldn't do it anyways.

  • Change iPod user interface behavior?

    Are there any hidden ways to change the iPod control behavior? I'd really like the iPod to not go into "adjust volume" mode whenever I accidentally touch the round mouse pad thingy.

  • We have an itunes account on our desktop and my kids have it on their ipod and iphone. I went in and changed our user name from my old e-mail address which is no longer accessible to my new one and now either of my kids can access the itunes store..

    We have an itunes account on our desktop and both my kids have it on iphone and ipod. I went in and changed out user name from an old e-mail address which is no longer accessible to my one I use now... When the kids try to sign onto the itunes store it tells them they have the wrong user name..
    Can this be fixed??

    Did you change the email address or create a new Apple ID?
    If the email address associated with the account was merely changed, sign out of the Apple ID on the devices and sign in using the new credentials.

  • How to change your user name for the Ipod nano...

    Can anyone please explain how to change the user name on your Ipod nano?

    hiya!
    do you mean the nano's name in the ipod source list?
    if so, select the ipod in the itunes sourcelist. click on it once, and pause for a second or so. you should then be able to type in what you please.

  • Am i able to change the ipod user interface?

    does anyone know how i can change the ipod user interfce? im getting really bored with the user interface right now. any advice or tips would be much appreciated. thx

    Unless you want to put iPodLinux on it, thus ending your warranty and perhaps really messing up your iPod, you can't change the interface.

  • Multiple ipods users and one computer

    Our household has several iPods but use one computer. I just purchased a new iPod and when I connected to the computer (Windows XP) it allowed me to identify my ipod but sunced the other ipod user's music. I'm lost - how can I or can I maintain 2 different syncs?

    When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
    c) Creating multiple user accounts.
    Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
    Sharing a Library and/or User Account
    If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
    Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
    iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
    How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
    Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page: Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
    Multiple Libraries
    It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key (or the Option key on a Mac) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
    Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
    Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
    I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here: Using Windows XP User Accounts

  • Change iPhone user name

    I recently upgraded my iPhone & gave the older phone to my husband to us as an iPod.  However, whenever I connect to iTunes it still sees it as my phone.  How can I change the user name on the iPhone/iPod so that it will have separate recognition?

    Double click the name under devices and type whatever you like.

  • Trying to restore music that was lost when I changed my user name.

    I changed my user email address a while ago and since I have lost access to a ton of my music. I still have the files on my computer but when I try and access them I get a message that they need to be verified. I cannot VERIFY them because the email address it is asking for no longer exists. I have ignored this issue for a while but I am quite over it. Please advise.
    I do have the music on an old ipod but I don't see why I should have to pay for a program to pull the music and movie off when it's Itunes and Apple's fault I don't have access.

    Have you tried resetting your apple id password and then changing your email address to a newer one?
    Try:
    https://appleid.apple.com
    Click reset password:
    enter the email address you used to use and then if you provided security questions / answers when you signed up initially you can answer them and then change your password.
    Once you have changed your password you should then be able to log in and then change your email address.

  • How to change SSO user's password: Get LDAP URL

    Hi,
    I would like to add a 'change user SSO password' form to my BC4J application. The form's submit button fires an action that calls a PL/SQL package. This package receives 7 parameters, and uses de dbms_ldap package to change the user's password.
    Parameters:
    - LDAP Host
    - LDAP Port
    - User DN
    - SSO Username
    - Old Password
    - New Password
    - Retyped New Password (for confirmation)
    I'm trying with a DataForwardAction event whose purpose is to get the user's account information and the LDAP location, but I can't get the LDAP Location (ClassCastException) and the SSOUsername (NullPointerException).
    I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.2.0.0 (Build 1811)
    My question is: ¿What am I doing wrong? ¿Is there any easier way to do this?
    The code is below:
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
    import oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionContext;
    import oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataForwardAction;
    import oracle.security.jazn.JAZNConfig;
    import oracle.security.jazn.spi.ldap.LDAPJAZNProvider;
    public class ChgPwdAction extends DataForwardAction

          host = ldapProvider.getJAZNConfig().getLocationURL().getHost();
          port = "" + ldapProvider.getJAZNConfig().getLocationURL().getPort();
        catch (ClassCastException e)
          //System.out.println(e);
          throw new Exception("Missing LDAP location");
        try
          userDN = request.getHeader("Osso-User-Dn");
        catch (NullPointerException e)
          //System.out.println(e);
          throw new Exception("Missing User DN.");
        SSOUsername   = request.getRemoteUser();
        oldPwd        = (String)request.getParameter("oldPwd");
        newPwd        = (String)request.getParameter("newPwd");
        confirmNewPwd = (String)request.getParameter("confirmNewPwd");
        request.setAttribute("Host", host);
        request.setAttribute("Port", port);
        request.setAttribute("UserDN", userDN);
        request.setAttribute("SSOUsername", SSOUsername);
        request.setAttribute("OldPwd", (String)ctx.getHttpServletRequest().getParameter("oldPwd"));
        request.setAttribute("NewPwd", (String)ctx.getHttpServletRequest().getParameter("newPwd"));
        request.setAttribute("ConfirmNewPwd", (String)ctx.getHttpServletRequest().getParameter("confirmNewPwd"));
        //System.out.println (userDN + "-" + SSOUsername);
      // To override a method of the lifecycle, go to
      // the main menu "Tools/Override Methods...".
    }Thanks in advance.

    Hi again,
    First of all, thanks for your reply.
    Yes, I know I can use JNDI instead of a call to a PL/SQL package (I visited this link: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=592611&start=0 that explains how to do it), but in both cases I have the same problem: I don't know if it's possible to get the LDAP's environment specifications (PROVIDER_URL, SECURITY_PROTOCOL) dynamically.
    Our production environment's LDAP is not the same as our development environment's LDAP. This is why I want to get this information dynamically.
    I think that this information is stored in the jazn.xml file: Is there any way to get this information?
    Thanks a lot.

    You have to clear saved password for this page:
    # Open you login page (where you have to enter username and password).
    # Right click on page and select '''Page Info''' form context menu.
    # On last tab ('''Security''') there is '''View saved passwords''' button, click it and delete all saved passwords for this page.
