  • Changing Router from Cable to DSL?

I made the switch and everything works fine unless its run through the router. I have a wireless-B (BEFW11S4). Is there some way to reset or restart the router? Not even sure if that would work

Hey try resetting the router reset button in such a way that power
light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power
cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router &
then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are
solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out
    it will definately work!!

  • AirPort Extreme  802.11n WiFi is blinking amber after changing from cable to DSL.  Everything works well; but light used to be solid green.

I changed from cable to DSL yesterday.  Technician connected the new modem and all is working excellently, except that the light on my AirPort Extreme which used to be a solid green, is now blinking amber.  I know this is not right, yet everything else is working well.  What's wrong and how can I fix it?

We need to do some troubleshooting to find out why the amber light is blinking, and to do that we need to know what operating system you are using on your Mac or PC.
If you have a Mac, and are not sure what operating system it is using, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

PS. I have deleted Roadrunner accounts, and reset new email account.

You can't. The only way to get songs in the Music app is to sync from a computer or to download from iTunes.

The TV was setup initially with cable. We have now moved it and need to change the signal type to antenna but when I go to Channel Settings to do that it is grayed/locked out. What do I need to do to change the signal type to antenna?

  • Switching from cable modem to DSL

I have a WRT54G that is connected to a desktop computer.  I also have a laptop.  I am currently trying to switch from cable modem to At&T DSL service.  AT&T uses a Motorola 2210 modem.  I am having trouble setting up the router under the new DSL system.  I have an intenet connection when I connect straight from the modem to the desktop.  When I connect the computer to the modem through the router I do not have internet connection, even though the appropriate lights are lit (according to the instructions found on the Linksys site).
I have tried to connect to the router website, but obviously connot when I do not get an internet signal with the modem connected to the router.  How do I correct this problem?

As you have changed your Internet Service Providor from Cable to DSL you should reset your router first...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router using the link here

  • Changed ISPs and all emails have disappeared, but are still on HD.

Running OSX 10.5.8 and Mail 3.6.
I have have 2 mailboxes. Changed ISP from bellsouth to comcast and someone set it up for me on my Macbook Pro, including updating (not deleting) the information in Mail's preferences. The big problem now is: in Account #1, all the Sent emails are gone; in Account #2, all the Inbox and Sent emails are gone. Strangely, however, they are still on the HD. I found them in the Users folder - Library - Mailboxes - etc. Both accounts are listed there as POP accounts.
First, how do I get them back into Mail?
Second, why did this happen (so I can avoid it in the future)
Thanks so much for your help.
P.S. When the changes were made to Mail for the new ISP, other crazy things were happening too, but those have been resolved, i.e. I was getting not only my emails, but the other person's emails too. Then he fixed that, but I started getting duplicates of every email stored on the server, even if it was previously downloaded, so I ended up with 3 of each. That seems to have stopped because I went to the server and moved everything to a newly created folder.

  • Changing ISPs, lost connection

I have gone from using a DSL connection to Cable, and though my Airport picks up the connection to the ISP (4 bars), I cannot connect to the Web at all. No matter what browser I use, I get a "Cannot find connection" message, and I am wondering how to get online. Right now, I am using a public connection (piggybacking). I have never needed a router to connect previously, and my Cable provider was not very helpful about in their tech response. We also run a PC, and that is connecting over the modem with no problem. Any thoughts? Thanks,

Many thanks...I will try this. Is a router necessary with a cable modem and Airport?

Jeanlin, Welcome to the discussion area!
Ensure that whenever you change the Ethernet
connection on the cable modem from one device (the
PC) to another (the AirPort Express [AX]) you
should power down the cable modem. This causes the
cable modem to forget the device it was talking to
and now it will start talking with a new device.
You will also need to configure the AX to connect to
the cable ISP using the same settings you use to
connect the PC to the cable ISP.

  • How change my "from" name in emails?

Just had Infinity BB installed. Very impressed with speed although engineer had to run an Ethernet cable from ground to first floor which has dropped performance. Am now “playing about “ with emails using BT Yahoo. When composing an email I note my “From” line always appears as J BLOGGS (Note Caps.) followed by my btinternet email address. I would like to change this to something less formal, such as my Christian name followed by the name of my business. So it would now read...
… Joe. Causeway Art Studios. (followed by my btinternet address).
Any ideas? I'm a newbie as you gather.

Thanks gg, yes I've done that, and the name is there fine,  but I don't want the actual email address I'm sending from to appear as well.... I want a different reply address (for a small voluntary organisation), and even though I've typed that into the relevant box, it's still showing the actual one I'm sending from.
This worked before with my previous provider, but stopped when I switched from them to BT.  I can still use the old account but not make changes like that any more.  So I set up a new sub account for these emails, but is that maybe a problem, that it's a sub account and not my main one?  Am I asking the impossible here?
    Hi.
As you've set all the relevant boxes including the reply-to box, and you had similar settings with the previous ISP (who were they by the way ?), then I can't see anything to change this directly.
With your previous provider, what email address was showing against your name when you sent emails ? Did you actually have the organisation email address set in the "From" address in Outlook ? If so, you can stil do this - but you need to associate this address with your BTinternet email address. It's called address verification. See my shortcuts, link below, option 0e. It looks complicated to a certain extent, but once done you can then change the "From" address in Outlook and not need to set the "Reply-to" box.

  • Router refuses to get IP from cable modem...at my wits end

Just got an AirPort Extreme and have attempted to install it. It won't pull an IP address from my cable modem, and sends my ethernet connected Mac a 10.0.1.....IP address which Mediacom tells me means the router is not talking to the modem correctly. I've tried resetting the router to factory defaults and just about every power cycle pattern one can think of between the modem, router and computer. Any ideas?
This is the third router I have owned and is by far the hardest one to get started out of the box..very frustrated as this is the exact opposite of all of my Apple experiences.

The following is how I fixed my AE basestation after a firmware upgrade and was finally able to establish internet connection to my IBM laptop after four months of AE not working (flashing amber)...at the same time I was setting up a brand new ADSL connection as I moved from Taipei to Beijing so this may help...
The solution listed is for PC Airport Utility 5.3.2 but I think similar steps will work for Macs. The important thing is to get a ethernet cable connection from basestation to computer. After that it is a lot of "button pushing"...my instructions are to the best of my recollection...
    My firmware is 7.3.1
Here is what finally worked for me:
    1. Power on Extreme basestation without any cables attached. Make sure your PC wireless radio is turned off (don't know if this is required but it is how I did it).
    2. Connect ethernet cable from Extreme to PC---do not connect internet cable.
    3. Do hard reset by pushing reset button on back of box until it quickly flashes amber and immediately release.
    4. Wait ~30-45 secs
    5. Open Airport Utility (or if already open, click "Rescan")
    6. If AU finds your basestation but reports it isn't working, click on "Manual" (bottom left button). If AU doesn't find basestation, repeat steps 3-5...several times if necessary.
    7. Open "Airport", click on "Status" and then either "Fix" or "Ignore" each error listed.
    8. Save "No Internet Connection" error for last. For this one, plug in your internet cable to the basestation. You may have to reenter you ISP information.
9.Click on "Internet" and change connection from "Ethernet" to "PPOe"
10.Disconnect ethernet cable from basestation to PC
    11. At this point you should have Internet and a Green LED.
    12. Start your wireless radio on and hopefully you be able to surf at will.
    13. One final suggestion if you find your connection is intermittent is to change the "Channel" (under "Airport" and "Summary") from "Automatic" to "Channel 1" (or other fixed channel). It fixed my intermittent connection problem...
As noted before, the above is to the best of my recollection but I have disabled updating on the Basestation now...I will never, ever, ever, change upgrade this firmware again... that is what started my problem...

  • Sometimes my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I am running a pretty powerful work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network, is it a hard drive issue? do I need to "clean out" the computer?

Many times my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I have wireless internet (time capsule) and I am running a pretty powerful real time financial work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network? is it a hard drive issue? do I only need to "clean out" the computer? Or all of the above...not to computer saavy.  It is a Macbook Pro  osx 10.6.8 (late 2010).

Almost certainly none of the above!  Try each of the following in this order:
Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
Close down Safari;  move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Turn off DNS pre-fetching by entering the following command in Terminal and restarting Safari:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false

  • How/can I change the "from" address in Mail?

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion, and have come across a problem.
I use iCloud for my mail account, but I want to change the "from" address - so the return address on my messages is NOT icloud.
I could do this in Lion.
In the mail account settings, there's an option that says "alias" and it lists (me)@mac.com, (me)@me.com and (me)@icloud.com, and then "custom" is an option.
    Great!
So I choose Custom, and then I can type in the "from" address that I want.
However, when I go to save those changes, it tells me the SMTP server can't be left blank.
    What?
It's not blank! I didn't touch it. The icloud server is still there!
Furthermore, it's greyed out, so even if it WERE blank, it's not like I can edit it!
Once this happens, the only fix is to delete the whole account from mail, and to disable mail in the icloud control panel, then re-add it.
Has anyone figured out to work around this?

Apple's outgoing mail server - just like 99.9% of all other SMTP servers, does not allow "relaying", meaning you use a domain in the 'sent from' address that is different from a domain hosted by the server. The simple reason is to make it harder for any spammer - not assuming you are one - to abuse the server. While bandwidth, server capacity and server load are some issues, the main fear for ISPs is to get blacklisted, and consequently mails from such server being refused by all others.
It's a general rule, and while exceptions might be technically possible, it would be a manual act which at a certain rate would become unmanageable.
If you want, read about the antonym, open mail relay servers, here.
You see, it's actually good behavior and absolutely in your interest to prevent you from using a "non-in-house" 'sent from' address.

I cant connect my iphone 4s on my laptop, I changed the usb cable and is not charging too. What i can do?

D13, thanks for these details. This an awesome clue. Are you able to connect to this Wi-Fi connection with other devices? Let's try a few steps to resolve this issue.
First, reset the network in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network and power your device off/on.
Secondly, delete the Wi-Fi connection in Settings>Select your Wi-Fi>Forget this Network and the try to connect to that Wi-Fi again.
Lastly, try creating your Wi-Fi connection. Tap Settings>Enable Wi-Fi ON. From Choose a Network, select Other. Enter the Wi-Fi network name. Select Security. Select the Wi-Fi network type then select Other Network. Enter the Wi-Fi network password then select Join

  • Can we change the from address displayed in gmail

    Hi,
I am using javamail to send mails from gmail account. I was able to change the from name in e- mail with the name
I specified. But can I use javamail to change the from address displayed in gmail ? If its possible please tell me how.
Urgent requirement in my project. Please help.
    Example.
    Now its displayed like this.
specifiedName<mail id from which campaigns are sent>
I want to change it to
specifiedName <specified email id> [ I want to mask the original id]

JavaMail will let you set the From address to whatever you want, but Gmail might
not let you send a message with a From address that doesn't match the account
you're using for sending, or it might override the From address you set to be the
From address corresponding to the account.
The best approach is to send the message from an account that matches the
From address. If you can't do that, you probably need another ISP or your own
mail server that will allow you to specify whatever you want.

  • TB v. 24.0: Changed ISP's; ~ new email in Server Settings & Outgoing Server & all Address Books and Contacts; TB still showing old email ID for Fwd & Rply

TB v. 24.0, Win 7 Pro. Changed ISP's. I use Outlook 2007; wife uses TB, same box. Changed TB username & e-mail address in Server Settings & Outgoing Server & set as Default. Changed e-mail address in all address books and Contact lists. Now TB still showing old e-mail address in <From> when Reply or Forward. This is confusing recipients, who have been sending their replies off to a now-nonexistent account. Checked Windows Contacts - empty. Checked my Outlook 2007 - all Contacts changed appropriately. How do I kill that old e-mail address in TB when it isn't even listed any more - except when we try to Reply or Forward?

When you got the new email address and changed ISP's, you needed to create a new mail account for that new existing email address.
When a mail account is created there are many preferences setup to be able to manage and run that mail account. Trying to track down and modify all of those within the either the config editor or prefs.js is not only time consuming, but you could easily cause further problems if any error is made.
So I suggest you fix the original account by reentering all the old data. Then create a new mail account for the new exisitng mail address.
    * File > New> Existing mail account.
    or
    * 3bar menu icon > New Message > Existing Mail account.
when you have both mail accounts in your left folder pane, you can choose to move any wanted emails from the older mail account into suitable folders in Local Folders. This will save a copy of emails.
Then you can delete the old account, leaving saved emails in Local Folders and only one new mail account.
    To remove mail account:
    * Tools > Account sEttings
    * select old mail account
    * click on 'Account Actions'
    * select 'Remove Account'
    * click on OK
